| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The vehicle had a sudden engine failure driving up an incline and a bearing rod caused me to need a new engine. It’s at Myrtle Beach Chevrolet and they tell me the engine is on National BackOrder. It’s a new truck and now needs a new engine that can’t be found. Shame on GM | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact was driving on a major highway in the fast lane during the failure. The contact was concerned that the failure could have caused a major crash. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 9,000 |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | This is the 3rd engine failure in 23K miles. The first was a Lifter/Rod problem at around 3K miles. The 2nd was catastrophic engine failure due to a spun bearing at 21K miles. Now at 23K miles, I'm having another catastrophic engine failure with the same issue. Engine is the 6.2L L87. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | When Driving my 2024 Chevy Silverado with 24,600 Miles on it this morning, i was on the New York State Thruway going highways speed (70MPH) when the truck Lost Power, and Shut completely off, I had a tractor trailer behind me and lucky my pick up truck was able to coast over the white line, if i would have been able to coast over the white line i would have been in a major accident. I attempted to start the truck up again and the truck would not turn over, i had sat there for about 25/30 Min trying to get the truck started and finally the truck turned over and i was able to continue on to work, While driving the truck had absolutely no power and the truck was sitting around 3K RPMs when going 66mph, the truck was hard shifting into gears as well. I arrived at work and i got to a parking space and all the sudden the truck shut off and wouldn't not start back up. Upon arriving to work i rolled down my window and heard a long banging noise coming from the engine Aswell as a whining noise. I attempted to start the truck up and you hit the start button the truck just keeps whining and never starts up. I was able to contact GM Roadside and have a tow truck come and pick the truck up and bring it back to the dealer. Im awaiting the dealer to contact me. Overall, i could have been in serious car accident for because the engine just shut off on the highway, this happened with no warning or anything, the check engine light was NOT on before this happened. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | At 40mph the transmission vibration on the pedal, and at slower speeds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | On 12/24/24 my truck went into limp mode with the notification of “reduced acceleration” nearly causing an accident. Luckily I was able to get off the road to safety. The truck wouldn’t go in reverse or fully accelerate. I had the truck towed to the dealership. The dealership informed me it was the Valve Body in my transmission. They mentioned they have 4 other trucks with the exact same issue. It’s been 1 month since and nothing has been repaired and GM has not responded to my inquiries on a replacement, update on the part, or a buy back. The vehicle was brand new on a lease only 7500 miles on it and was purchased in July. The truck didn’t even last 6months. Had I not quickly gotten the truck off the road I could have been T-Boned and could’ve died at the intersection by a semi coming through. The fact this vehicle was sold, while this was an issue is criminal negligence. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | My 2024 ZR2 has roughly 22,000 miles on it. Was driving and lost power. Dealership actually sent someone to come look at my stalled truck. Would not turn over. Dealership got it towed. After diagnosis, they said the engine had seized. This is absolutely uncalled for on a brand new vehicle that I paid over $70,000 for. This exact same thing happened on my Co Workers 2020 high country 6.2. It is currently being worked on, and now seeing that over 877,000 of these 6.2 engines have done this exact same thing since 2019??? How is this engine still being put in these GM vehicles? Now they are going to put new or rebuild the one I have that the exact same thing can happen to the new one? No new warranty will be given as I just get the remaining warranty? I'm sorry but this is the most expensive vehicle I have ever purchased and was proud of it. Now I have a ticking time bomb? I work out of state and if this happened while out of state, what do I do?? I would like action taken! I am getting an attorney involved as this should be taken care of after 877,000 vehicles. What other action can be taken? | Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The vehicle burns oil and has from the very first oil change. The dealer is stating the oil needs to be changed more often (5k as opposed to 7500 per the manual) to mitigate the fact the vehicle is burning oil. Currently I am hearing lifter tick at cold start and believe the vehicle is on its way to experiencing engine failure of which your organization is already looking into. I am reporting this to help with your investigation. Please feel free to call with any questions. Thank you. | Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced at the local dealer for a manufacturer software update the vehicle's display console began to experience failures causing several safety features to become inoperable. Later, while driving in reverse the vehicle crashed into the pole. During the incident, the collision avoidance feature to alert the driver was not activated. The contact indicated that as the vehicle drove closer to the pole the driver's seat did not vibrate, the audible alarm was not active and the warning message was not displayed to alert the driver of an impending crash into the pole. During the crash, the contact experienced an injured back that did not require medical attention at the time. No police report was filed and the vehicle was driven from the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 10,500. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 | 10,500 |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifting gear, there was a hesitation before properly shifting gear. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light and then attempting to accelerate while making a left turn at approximately 15 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to accelerate immediately but then suddenly surged forward. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The contact had restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle a short distance to the residence. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission valve had failed, and the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the manufacturer taking an extensive amount of time to provide the parts. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,485. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 7,485 |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | I was driving down the road when the vehicle shut off and required a restart. After I was able to safely pull to the side of the road with zero power I was able to restart the vehicle after a few tries. The check engine light came on. Upon getting the code checked the CAM sensor is what shut the vehicle off. I was on a busy access road and a crash could have happened if I was not able to move out of the travel lanes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | I purchased a new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4wd in May 2024 from a Chevrolet Dealer in East Tennessee, after having the truck for 5 months, it started experiencing a transmission "shutter / vibration" at higher speeds, it has also experienced a transmission "hard downshift" at times... a month later at only 4914 miles, it was dropped off at the chevrolet dealership here in my home state of Alabama for its first oil change and for them to check what is going on with the transmission, after the truck being there for 3 weeks, we were told that the transmission needed to come out for repairs, we advised the dealership and several GM representatives that we wanted a brand new transmission put in the truck that is brand new to start with, GM has refused and stated that they were going just rebuild the transmission.... we told them "No" and that we had bought a brand new truck, therefore it should have a new transmission, not a rebuilt one in a brand new truck with less than 5000 miles on it.... the truck has been out of our possession starting into its 3rd month being gone for repairs, not only is this a huge inconvenience for us, but its also a huge safety issue because we do occasionally pull trailers with this truck... General Motors has flat refused any help to our satisfaction with this transmission issue and has just pretty just blown us off and told us "No" when we have approached them with any kind of remedies for this situation, its pretty bad when a company that has taken a government bailout a few years ago, hasnt learned anything from their past mistakes and now think theyre untouchable.... it also pretty bad when you spend in excess of $60,000 for a pickup truck that you dont even have in your possession because of defective manufacturing.... yes, it is a safety issue even more because my family is sometimes using this truck and may not always react the same way that I would if something happened going down the road.... it needs a recall on these trucks | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | I am sending this report in regards to investigation PE25001. I own a 2024 Silverado 6.2L, purchased on 8/30/24. On 12/27/24, I noticed a odd noise coming from the exhaust and took the truck to the dealership. After a week of trouble shooting, the dealership with the help of technicians from Chevrolet, discovered the crankshaft play was 3 times out of limits causing the exhaust to rattle and determined that engine would have to be replaced. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | STRUCTURE | The tailgate opens while I am driving. I saw this is an issue with other Models but it has happened numerous times on my model as well. The computer system also malfunctions sporadically and the car doesn’t turn off. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | Vehicle spun a bearing in the lower part of the engine after 1147 miles of use. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The 6.2L engine suffered lifter failure while the vehicle was in motion on the highway. This was after 5 months of ownership and only 2,800 miles on a new 2024 Silverado. The vehicle months prior to the failure emitted a chirping sound like a loose fan belt. Dealer stated it was valve noise. It got louder prior to failure. The dealer repaired the engine and replaced all 8 cylinder lifters. Now the same noise is back. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Unknowns at the moment- truck is at dealership. Dealership stated they have no codes to diagnose the issue. While traveling, most notably @35-45mph, there is a vibration, seemingly through the transmission or transfer case. You can feel it slightly through both the steering wheel and the fuel pedal, along with hearing it. I’ve taken it in several times and told there’s no issue. I will not accept the vehicle back until they are able to explain the issue and repair it. I noticed the issue around 20k miles. I recently took the vehicle to the shop with 32k miles on it as it is progressively getting worse. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The issue involved multiple systems, including the ABS system, brake system, and electronic stability system (ESG), along with a significant loss of braking power. These components may still be available for inspection. My safety and that of others were seriously at risk during my morning commute in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The truck lost braking capability, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of me. Later, as I attempted to park, it again lost braking force, and I narrowly avoided crashing into bushes. The collision prevention system also failed to activate during these incidents. The problem was inspected and diagnosed by the dealership after being towed via roadside assistance. They confirmed that the battery caused the failures across multiple systems. This was not the first issue with the battery. About a month ago, the battery suddenly died, preventing the truck from starting. At that time, Chevrolet sent me a message stating that the battery status was critical. After recharging it, the vehicle functioned normally until this recent incident. The first symptoms of the latest issue appeared while I was stopped at a red light. The truck suddenly shut off and restarted on its own. Warning lights for the ABS system and brake system appeared on the dashboard. Once the light turned green and I started to accelerate, an ESG message appeared, followed by another message limiting the maximum speed to 43 mph. When I tried to brake to park the truck, the brakes were slow to respond, making it feel like the truck had completely lost braking power. The collision prevention system failed to activate, increasing the danger. Fortunately, my two babies were not in the truck at the time of the incident. This was an extremely frightening situation for me as a driver. The truck is only six months old, has 37,000 miles, and was purchased new. I believe many of these failures could have been prevented with proper safeguards. While I was lucky to avoid an | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | On 1/13/25 while driving my new vehicle and arriving at destination I placed vehicle in park for 10 mins and then left putting vehicle in reverse and transmission in reverse would not engage, rolling me into decline slope and almost crashing into home. After receiving help to push vehicle in neutral, I placed car in drive and sent to dealership. Truck seemed fine in drive. Parkway Chevrolet, Tomball, TX inspected vehicle and stated no issues. Possible torque lock but nothing showing and possibly resolved. On 1/16/25 while driving to work, I stopped at gas station for coffee, left truck running. Got back in vehicle and placed in reverse, and again truck would not engage reverse. I received another push out in neutral , placed in drive and then proceeded to return home. While I’m drive check engine light came on, and truck would not go beyond the 2nd gear. I stopped at closest light to turn around and proceed home and the vehicle began grinding gea and jerking my vehicle while in drive. I tried to turn around at a dead end road and could not reverse vehicle and called for tow to dealership. Dealership at opening 7am took in vehicle 2 nd time with my complaint and called at noon. They stated the valve body of transmission needed to be replaced. Further stating it was a faulty issue chevy was aware about but nothing showing and recalled. They said no longer using manufacturer for this transmission replacement and it would be an unknown eta for repair. This is dangerous and unacceptable as it is a new vehicle with a known faulty part. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE,FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE | The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle began jerking and sputtering and then stalled. The engine turned over, but the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 8,840. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 8,840 |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | Blown transmission valve body at 8000 total miles. Truck went into limp mode and will not reverse. Can not be safely driven. Has been sitting at dealership for 2 months now waiting for parts from GM. National backorder no ETA. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | I purchased my vehicle in July 2024 brand new. I started to experience an engine shudder at about 4500 miles with the truck coasting or on the accelerator around 1500 RPMs. It first began at lower speeds around 40 mph, but now I feel it at high speeds as well. I brought my truck back to the dealership three or four times and they told me that the shudder was due to the active fuel management system in my 2.7L Turbomax engine. A different dealer said that it felt like a torque converter. There are no lights on the dashboard. The dealership I bought it from failed to try and flush the transmission fluid, only documenting that they did not feel the shudder on the receipt they gave me. However, during the test drive, they told me that they can clearly feel it. They failed to give me an explanation why there was no shudder for the first 4500 miles, and that it just started. They also stated that they had not heard of this problem yet, but said that it felt completely normal, which does not make much sense. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | STRUCTURE | The automatic power running board of my vehicle has been coming loose. I took the vehicle to my dealership to get serviced. They said they tightened the bolts, and that the board is still loose. They also say there is nothing else they can do to fix the issue. This seems like a significant risk, as this component of the body of my car is at risk of coming apart further due to rattling while driving. I would like your help figuring out a safe solution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | I purchased my vehicle from Mak Haik Chevrolet 11711 Katy Fwy. Houston, TX 77079 on [XXX]. Approximately 4 months my Check Engine Light came on and I brought my Truck to Mak Haik Chevrolet to have it checked out. The Service Department could not figure out why the Check Engine Light had came on. They did complete the Recall N242435631 regarding a need to update the radio and serial communication firmware on my truck. On Saturday November 9th 2024, I brought my truck into Mak Haik Chevrolet for the 2nd oil change at approximately 10,000 miles, and the technician could not get the truck to go into reverse. I was given a loaner vehicle and told that they would contact me about the issue once their transmission technician could look my truck on Monday. I was contacted on Monday November 11th2024, and told that the Valve Body in the transmission was defective. Jim Cox, Service Advisor with Mak Haik Chevrolet, explained that he could not find the part, as this is a big issue with Chevrolet across the Country, and he would let me know when he has access to the part. I asked about replacing the transmission instead, and Jim explained that he could not get those in either? Mak Haik Chevrolet has had my truck since November 9th, 2024. | Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | THE TRUCK FAILED GO SHIFT INTO REVERSE. HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. WHEN I TRIED TO GO FORWARD THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED AND THEN SHIFTED INTO LIMP MODE. DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THE TRUCK FOR OVER 8 WEEKS NOW AND I AM TOLD THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK-ORDER ON THE NEW VALVE BODY BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF TRUCKS REQUIRING REPLACEMENTS. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
