| Mar 2026 | POWER TRAIN | I was driving down the highway and the vehicle suddenly shutoff without any warning. I coasted down an off-ramp and came to a stop in the middle of a round about. The vehicle would not re-fire and had to be towed to dealership. When at dealership it was discovered the engine failed. This is a 2024 6.2 liter engine that was not included in recall. I could have caused an accident on the highway as I suddenly lost power. People who were included in this recall received a 10 year 150K warranty on the new engine. My truck should be included in that. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The DEF tank failed making the exhaust system malfunction. This puts the vehicle in limp mode. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | POWER TRAIN | On 1/31/2026, while returning from an AKC event with my XXX year old border collie, I was traveling on IXXX at approximately 70MPH in the left hand lane passing other traffic. As I started up a hill in a remote area, I began to hear a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment that sounded like a rod knocking and the truck began to struggle to continue up the hill. It then lost all power, a message stating to shift to neutral and restart flashed on infotainment screen, I shifted to neutral and pushed the start button, but everything went blank. I had to struggle to merge back into right lane and eventually over to the breakdown lane, approximately 5 miles from the nearest exit. I was forced to remain on the side of a busy interstate for approximately two hours during an unusually cold day for Florida that consisted of snow flurries while waiting for roadside assistance. Luckily, I was able to arrive at the dealership 5 minutes before closing and was able to get my truck checked in. The service writer knew exactly what the likely issue was when I described my ordeal, and it was partially confirmed when she pulled the Christmas tree of codes from the computer that my truck was throwing. It should be noted that the truck would not restart after the catastrophic failure that stopped the motor at 70MPH on the interstate and would not shift to neutral for the tow truck operator to load or unload onto flatbed. Subsequently, Techs determined that engine failed due to suspected internal damage to crankshaft and motor was replaced under warranty along with torque converter. The failed engine serial number was [XXX] but I was never notified or included in current recall 25V274, It did not show as active recall in GM App nor was it inspected during LOF visits at various GM Service departments. My truck was in GM service from 1/31 - 2/21 for the engine replacement, Mileage on 2024 Silverado 1500 High Country was 25,274 at failure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Component: Faulty coolant control valve causing reduced acceleration and check engine light to come on. Fan is constantly on when reduced acceleration is displayed. Safety: can overheat, reduced acceleration can cause an accident. Problem reproduced: Dealer did check and confirm codes and errors. Dealer confirmed item failed. Coolant control valve needs to be replaced. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The tailgate has opened 4 times while I’ve been driving. There was one incident in which an object in the truck bed fell out onto the road. Other drivers are at risk for serious injury or death due to objects falling out. I have read other incidents of this happening online to the Silverado 1500 models however Chevy has only issued recalls for the 2500 and 3500 models. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer and they will be inspecting it in the next coming days. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating failure or that my tailgate was open. I’ve provided photo documentation showing me closing the tailgate as well as a photo of the object falling onto the road. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | ENGINE | After taking in to dealer for recall diagnostics and higher viscosity oil change a couple months later. Heard a noise while driving on interstate, lost cruise control, stability system, engine light came on with a ECS. Kept driving on the interstate until we got to a red light and the engine died. Cranked starter but hard to start and ran rough and died multiple times. Feathered throttle to get over 1K RPMs to get it off the street. Towed to nearest Chev dealer. P300 code. Tore engine down. Here is what dealer documented: CUSTOMER STATES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON WITH SERVICE TRACTION & SERVICE ESC MESSAGES. ENGINE IS RUNNING ROUGH AND WILL STALL. TOW IN. Valve Spring Replacement - Replacing the faulty valve spring on the cylinder 7 exhaust side is necessary as it is causing the exhaust valve to remain stuckopen, leading to engine misfire and over 80% leakage in that cylinder. This service can help restore proper engine compression and improve engine performance. Op.1 CEL -CEL: Customer states 1. replaced the exhaust valve spring and valve spring seal. reinstalled components with new seals and cleared dtcs. started engine and verified the engine starts and runs but having multiple cylinder misfires. reset engine fuel trims and brought engine to operating temperature and let it run for some time. other cylinder misfires went away but still found a dead misfire on cylinder 7. removed and swapped spark plugs with no change. noted the spark plugs have some exhaust build up on the tip due to the faulty exhaust valve spring. performed a static compression test and found the compression to be 175 psi and a running compression test with a smooth build up to 125 psi. checked spark and spark was good. tested the injector system using the AFIT test and found the test to pass indicating no faults with the fuel injectors. performed a cylinder leak down test and found no cylinder leakage coming from cylinder 7. put engine back together and cleared dtcs. reset the throttle | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | STEERING | At just over 36,000 miles, the vehicle randomly started jerking to either side of the road. It's not continuous and happens at random intervals while driving. Sometimes the steering wheel would jerk with the movement of the tires, other times, it felt as if the steering wheel had disengaged for a moment. The first time it happened, we were traveling on a highway at 55mph and were jerked towards oncoming traffic. I immediately stopped the vehicle and turned around to head back home at a safer rate of speed. The steering issue continued numerous times until my arrival at home. This issue just happened today, so it has not been inspected by anyone yet. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other indications. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | ENGINE | GM replaced engine after a complete failure associated with a defective engine recall. The remanufactured or new engine installed seems to have a similar defect as the original engine. Returned vehicle for service and was told GM refused to repair or replace the engine until the vehicle suffered another complete engine failure. Regardless of any safety concerns of an another complete engine failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The dealership has informed me that the Radio Control Module of the vehicle needs to be replaced. The infotainment center which contains the backup camera is no longer functioning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission failed at 15000 miles. Attempted to shift to reverse and instead car went into neutral. Allowed me to shift into forward but quickly went into “limp mode” once underway. Seems like the same issue as many similar gm trucks have had with transmissions but my 2024 is not included in active recalls when searched by VIN. Suspect it probably should be since issue appears to be the same as those that are. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING | Was driving 45 mph when a “ Conditions Not Correct for Shift” warning pops up on the screen and puts me into neutral, but came to a stop in a neighborhood entrance and have not been able to start or put the vehicle into gear | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | My engine shutoff while I was driving on the highway. I had the initial recall remedy performed on my 6.2L 2024 silverado truck by getting the thicker oil about 8 month's ago. Now my truck is in the shop I'm suppose to be getting a replacement engine. I'm not sure if I can trust the replacement engine im getting. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | POWER TRAIN | 2024 Chvrolet 3.0 Diesel is losing oil at 3k miles on every oil change. DTC P06DD , dealership did an oil consumption test, they have determined there is signifcant oil loss after every oil change after 3k miles. Truck is at 71k miles. Engine power loss while driving, check engine light on, drove straight to the dealership. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | POWER TRAIN | After engine blows due to recall and engine not running, it is impossible to shift the electronic transmission into neutral mode for towing. This happened to me in November of 2025 and I was recently told that I should report the issue. Neither the tow truck operator nor myself were able to get the vehicle into neutral without the engine running. I could have easily been stuck in the middle of traffic and no one would be able to help me move to a safe location. Some way of easily getting the vehicle into neutral without the engine running needs to be added to all Silverado’s with electronic transmissions. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | Vehicle died and would not move forward or in reverse. The engine locked up and had to be replaced. Recall to test engine and replace with thicker oil was performed 6000 miles previous to engine failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | In May 2025, we received notice that my truck was involved in GM Safety Recall N252494000. In July 2025, a fuel consumption test was performed because the vehicle showed low oil pressure and was 2-1/2 quarts low. Chevolet indicated "consuming oil" was normal; however, I have owned trucks for 25 years and have never "consumed oil". In October 2025, we received notice that we could finally schedule the engine inspection at a Chevrolet Dealer of our choice. We scheduled this appointment for Monday, November 17th, 2025. The Picoscope Inspection was performed and the engine passed. They installed new higher viscosity oil, new oil fill cap and insert; but they note that the vehicle had no oil on the dipstick and would like to have another consumption test performed in 2000 miles. The next day, Tuesday, November 18th, 2025, the engine failed. The initial diagnosis was a continuous misfire of cylinder #3 requiring a Valve Lifter Replacement on Left Side. Upon completion of this work, they identified additional issues including spun crankshaft thrust bearing and damage crankshaft journal requiring replacement of the 6.2L engine. The engine failure occured the day after the proposed recall "fix" indicating that the picoscope test and higher viscosity oil is not an effective remedy. I brought up concerns about the consumption of oil multiple times with the Chevy Dealer multiple times and the response is "oil consumption" is considered normal with this engine. Not having my vehicle created significant hardships as I work in construction. I did not have a toneau cover to secure my tools, I did not have the ability to use my toll pass on the highway, I could load construction materials into the rental vehicle, and I had to switch between 4 different rental vehicles during the course of the 65-Day Repair! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | The cam crankshaft failed. I was driving on the highway at a speed between 65-75 and my truck just cut off without any warning. Luckily, I was in far right lane and coasted over to the side of the road but it was very scary because I didn't control my truck at all. I called the nearest Chevrolet Dealership that was Kevin Whitaker and they give me the Chevrolet help contact phone and they sent a tow truck to pickup my truck about 1 hr later and I was stuck in my truck on the side of the road and I couldn't get out on the drive side because how close it was to oncoming traffic. Once I arrived at the dealership with my truck after asking the tow driver could I ride with him to the dealership. At the dealership they checked the truck with computerized device and the service advisor told me the truck code revealed cam shaft problems. I told him that I did see and warning sign saying low oil pressure once I tired to start up the truck again on the side of the road. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | I have a 2024 Silverado with the L87 (6.2) engine. I brought in in for recall. After inspection the Chevrolet Service Center said it was good. They changed the oils to 0-W40 per the recall. On January 8, 2026 I was driving at 35 mph and the engine just stopped. I had it towed back to the Chevrolet Service Center and after diagnosis it was determined that the engine failed and has to be replaced which take a month or more. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | Engine burning massive amounts of oil, noticeable tick in engine, dealer request I bring it back every 500 miles for a total of 2000 miles to assess wether or not there’s a fault, when I requested for them to keep it diagnose it in their own way without forcing me to continuously have to return to the dealer (4 different times) for a conclusion | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | 5449 miles. Motor had a knock. Took to dealership and they replaced valve lifters | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | Vehicle simply died in the middle of an intersection and blocked the roadway for an extended period of time before being towed back to dealer. Engine failure confirmed, replacement has been ordered | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | Thrust bearing failure at 11,945 miles requiring complete engine replacement. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Engine safety concern. Grinding and clunking while engine is running and gets worse under load or when accelerating. Have taken into dealer for service over 6 times. Recall service was performed and their fix was to change to a thicker oil but all that caused was worse fuel economy, more expensive oil changes, and the noises have become worse. Going back to dealer next week for another attempt. Have requested lemon replacement with GM but they are denying any issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | ENGINE | Vehicle: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country Engine: 6.2L L87 V8 Recall: N252494001 – L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety defect involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country related to NHTSA Safety Recall N252494001 (L87 Engine – Loss of Propulsion). My vehicle experienced a sudden engine failure consistent with the conditions described in the recall, resulting in loss of propulsion. Due to this failure, General Motors authorized a full engine replacement at an authorized GMC dealership. After the engine replacement was completed, the replacement engine also failed in the same manner as the original engine, again resulting in loss of propulsion. This second failure occurred despite the vehicle being repaired according to General Motors’ recall procedures and specifications. Loss of propulsion creates a significant safety risk, especially while driving at highway speeds or in traffic, as it can lead to sudden power loss without warning and increases the risk of a crash. Despite the replacement engine failing in the same way as the original recalled engine, General Motors is now refusing to replace the second failed engine or provide a permanent remedy. As a result, my vehicle remains unsafe to operate and unresolved under the existing safety recall. I am concerned that the recall remedy is inadequate and that replacement engines may also contain the same defect, creating an ongoing safety hazard. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter to determine whether the recall repair is effective and whether additional corrective action is necessary to protect vehicle owners. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2026 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Vehicle does not indicate proper DEF level. Vehicle has stated several times that it is out of DEF but is not. The most recent time the vehicle was at a dealer and was noted as normal operation. Driving up to going the dealer: vehicle displayed message “DEF empty refill now vehicle speed restricted to 65mph”with a 500 mile count down. Vehicle was driven 489 miles of the 500 miles. Vehicle was taken to a dealer. Dealer confirmed that vehicle was not out of DEF, vehicle was at 40% DEF capacity (~2 gallons of fluid in a 5 gallon tank). Dealer noted that this was normal operation. This is not safe, the DEF system isn’t accurately reporting level. In other situations it hasn’t recognize DEF fills. This can potentially lead to the vehicle severely restricting speed or not allowing the motor to restart creating unsafe conditions for the passengers and other vehicles on the road way. Vehicle was under warranty at the time of the issues. Vehicle is currently just under 37,000 miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
