| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | [XXX] I was heading home from work, driving on [XXX] near [XXX] 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 broke down. I lost all power in my vehicle, besides brakes and steering, and had to coast into the breakdown lane. After restarting my truck, I was able to drive another mile on the highway until I lost all power again on the off-ramp. My truck was broke down, halfway in the road, and I could not start it back up to try and move it. I remained there in the subfreezing temperatures with no heat in my truck for over 1.5 hours waiting for a tow through OnStar that never showed. A state trooper eventually pulled behind me because I was blocking traffic and then proceeded to call a different tow company which arrived about 15 minutes after he called. Since that day, my truck has been at Colonial Chevrolet in New london CT waiting for a “nationally backordered” 6.2L engine. 53 days without my truck that I use for me and my business partner’s construction company, and no ETA for when the new engine will be arriving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | We were driving our truck with our family on vacation. We were going slowly entering the parking lot to our hotel when a sudden loud grinding noise caused our truck to shudder and shake. We stopped and got out and didn’t see that we ran over anything. We started to proceed and the sound was the same. We parked in a stall and left the vehicle overnight. No check engine lights were on. No warnings at all. It was Memorial Day weekend 2023. There were no dealerships open where we were vacationing, 3 hours from home. Very inconvenient. Later when the dealer looked at it, the thrust bearing was bad and the engine was shot. Needed a full replacement at 10,600 miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | While attempting to pull out into traffic at a T intersection, the vehicle would not accelerate as I got into roadway and gave me a "Reduced Acceleration" notice. I was almost hit by a vehicle that was coming towards me. This has happened 3 times now. I have not taken it the dealer yet. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | I was pulling into my neighborhood when my engine started rapidly thumping the higher the rpm’s got. I was able to get it to my local Chevrolet dealership. Flaherty Chevrolet in Brandenburg, Ky. They told me it had catastrophic engine failure. I’m currently waiting for a new engine replacement. They’re trying to find a new one, but are having no luck. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | STEERING | I was driving on the interstate when the power steering failed. I was on a straightaway so I was able to force the vehicle to the side of road and have it towed. If I was in a corner, I would have crashed. It was repaired at Chevrolet Dealership. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | While driving down the highway, a message popped up stating “not suitable to shift” and I lost all acceleration and could only coast. Luckily was able to coast over to the shoulder, where attempts were made to shut down and restart vehicle. Second message came up stating reducing features to save battery. Was unable to restart and a tow was requested. Dealership reported it was unknown why or what caused it but engine was locked up. Engine only had 19k on it with just me as the owner.when purchased brand new 17 months prior. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Moter blew with 19,000 miles on a leased vehicle. Blew a rod out of the block and there was no warning light or notice at all. Almost got rear-ended. Took 3 months to replace moter. New motor knocks and ticks...... I also told them the 10 speed transmission slips between seventh and eighth gear they said there's nothing wrong truck still slips between seventh and eighth gear to this day. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was going down the interstate and my car engine turned off and almost made me crashed into another car. Chevy dealership took it and after a month they said the engine is locked up so it needs a new engine now. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | When all the brake settings are set to factory and I back out of my vehicle onto the main road in front of my driveway the vehicle will occasionally detect something and lock the vehicle in park with emergency brake engaged. I then have to put the vehicle in drive all this while oncoming traffic may or may not be oncoming. The brake engagement happens if the corn in the field is blowing the right way or shadows from the tress. I had this into the dealer and also contacted the manufacture. They both told me to turn off all the safety features so this wouldn't happen or do not back out of my driveway. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | My trucks engine failed when I was driving on the highway with my family in the vehicle. The truck lost power and struggled to get off on the side of the road. Truck has been at the dealership since 25 Nov 2024 with still no diagnostics. GM is claiming they will not replace due to lift on the truck which has nothing to do with all these engine failures. Last contact from dealership was 27 Dec 2024. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | Motor seized while driving on freeway at 65 Mph. Coasted to the media on the freeway in the middle of a dividing highway. The highway patrol stopped and then left feeling unsafe. Dealer would not tear down without a $3000 release from me for labor, if not covered under warranty. This is now a federal investigation with this motor and over 86k complaints. I would also like to add, this happened to a new truck my son bought in 2021 Silverado trail boss so GM new about these motors and are still selling them!!! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | Faulty coolant control valve causing reduced engine power at highway speeds and reduced acceleration caused unsafe operation on highway. Was unable to safely maneuver to right lane on highway to allow faster traveling traffic to pass. Fortunately was only about 5 miles from home and was able to operate the vehicle in "limp" mode after traffic cleared. There was no warning just during operation check engine light and reduced engine power displayed on the drivers information center. The vehicle is available for inspection with the defective part because GM can't source a replacement despite occurring nearly eight weeks ago. GM has authorized the warranty repair and is currently at a Chevrolet franchise dealership awaiting repair parts. The manufacture is aware of the issue and has accepted a manufacture engine part is the cause of the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | Engine seized at 330 miles. I’ve recently seen the investigation into crank bearing failure on the L87. We upfit new vehicles. This was a test truck. We pulled oil from another identical chassis with 10 miles on it and sent it in for testing to a 3rd party. At 100C/212F the viscosity was under 7 and it should be 20. It is our belief that GM has faulty bulk oil they’re putting in new vehicles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | There were no symptoms prior to the engine failure. On January 14th, 2025 while driving 58 miles per hour heard a sound that sounded like a slap on the back window. After the slap sound I noticed the engine was not running as normal. There was also a sound coming from the engine like metal rattling around. A few minutes later the check engine light appeared in the instrument panel. Had the vehicle towed to the nearest GM dealership and was informed that the thrust bearing went out which may have caused damage to the crankshaft. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V674000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ENGINE | I was driving and received a check engine light with “Service ESC” and traction control was disabled. Performed diagnostics and found P0300, P0304 and P0204 all relating to cylinder 4 misfire and injector issues on cylinder 4. Truck has just over 47,000 miles and may be related to the lifter issues that plague this engine design. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | 2023 Silverado with 10 speed transmission. 20K miles. On 11/30 received "Reduced Power" message, quickly followed by "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon", which was quickly followed by "Service Transmission". CEL came on. Transmission was shifting erratically, and not shifting into higher gears. Clearly a safety concern. Dropped it off at a local dealer on 12/1. Dealer service advisor contacted me 12/12, saying they were finally able to diagnose the problem and the transmission needs a new valve body. However, the valve body is on back order and there is no estimated time for when it will be available. The internet is awash with stories of the same issue with GM's 10 speed transmission in the light duty pick up trucks, leaving owners waiting for weeks, even months before their vehicle is repaired. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | My tailgate randomly opened while the vehicle was parked this fall on three separate occasions. I see there was a recall (N232426400) but it only included the Canadian equipment. Can we be certain the Canadian equipment wasn't used in my vehicle? If the Canadian equipment was faulty it's not a stretch to think the American or other equipment could be too. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated to 20 MPH. The check engine warning light illuminated with the messages, “Reduced Acceleration – Drive with Care/Service Emission Systems” and “See Owner’s Manual” displayed. The contact drove the vehicle to the residence and the vehicle was then towed to the to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact linked the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: N222391510. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,295. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 47,295 |
| Dec 2024 | SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) | The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH and hauling a small box trailer, the vehicle slid several times. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road temporarily and resumed driving; however, the failure recurred several times. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that towing assistance could be provided for the vehicle but not for the box trailer. The contact decided to continue driving the vehicle to the residence while the manufacturer remained on the phone with the contact. The contact stated that upon test driving the vehicle the following day, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer removed the valve body of the transmission per the manufacturers' instructions. The dealer then informed the contact that metal shavings were found in the transmission pan. The dealer replaced the transmission. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the rear end of the vehicle continued to make an abnormal humming sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer determined that the rear end of the vehicle needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH on a wet road, the vehicle inadvertently slid off the road and drove on the grassy area covered with snow. The contact's wife steered the vehicle and missed a ditch; however, the rear passenger's side of the vehicle and the rear passenger's side tire struck a pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver did not sustain any injury. The driver exited and inspected the vehicle. The driver was able to continue driving. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 23,000 |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | Vehicle was re-started after running into a store, vehicle made loud growling noise from engine compartment and Service Engine Soon light came on. Took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repairs. was called and informed That the Coolant control valve was defective and that NO parts were available at this time, and that the expected part arrival dat was the third week of January. When asked if the truck was drivable was told that it wasn't recommended due to engine overheating concern and vehicle going into LIMP mode and leaving me in an unsafe situation if traveling on a highway or at freeway speeds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Vehicle goes into reduced power mode and prevents safe acceleration in traffic and is a major safety concern. The Coolant Control Valve is the issue which has been a problem in the Silverado for a few years. This part is also on national backorder. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The sound on the Infotainment system, which controls the radio, apple car play and phone calls cuts out randomly and will not turn back on until the truck is turned off for 10 minutes or you pull over and park and do a reset in safe mode. This is a hazard as you can not make emergency call while driving or if you are on an emergency call while driving you are forced to go from hands free to holding your cell phone while driving. I reach out to Chevrolet several and brought the truck to 2 different dealerships and it is still not fixed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | While driving the Vehicle - the left turn signal stopped working. When dropping off at the dealership was informed it is a software issue. The issue went away for a couple of months and then the exact thing happened when using now the right turn signal. This provides no way of letting other people know who are headed towards my vehicle that i am turning lanes. The last incident was verified by the dealership. The headlight is not serviceable. No warnings occurred until after a few blinks where the front signals wouldn't work then indicated that the light was malfunctioning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | randomly several times a day the google assistant comes on unexpectedly and starts to talk, via the infotainment system. She says "I cannot do that but in the meantime you can......" | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
