| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | My motor seized and shut off while driving 63 mph on a busy highway going up hill. Truck made it to the top of the hill before it shut off and had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. No warning lights or anything. Rpms locked at 3000 and wouldn’t go up or down until the motor shut off. Switched itself to neutral while it was rolling still and wouldn’t allow my to put the truck in park when stopped. Finally locked itself in park and wouldn’t allow to be shifted to neutral. Dealership said the motor seized and ordered a new one but is on back order | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | On the morning of March 12, 2025, I started experiencing a ticking sound from the engine bay under throttle. I suspected lifter failure and decided to proceed to the dealership that afternoon for repairs. During my commute, the engine started squealing and shuddering and I experienced a severe loss of acceleration which made it almost unsafe to drive on the highway. Upon coming to a stop in traffic, the engine died. I was able to get it restarted and proceeded to continue my trek to the dealership. Upon another traffic stop, the engine died again, at which point I made the decision to exit the highway and continue my journey along the service road. Twice more the engine died when coming to a stop and the 4th time it struggled to restart. I finally decided to pull into a parking lot and as I was backing into a parking space, the engine died its final time and would not crank/turn over. To make matters more difficult, the transmission would not even shift out of "PARK" into "NEUTRAL" for it to be laoded onto a tow truck. Each time I tried to shift out of "PARK" I received a message stating "Conditions for shift not met" | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | While driving on a 55 mp road [XXX] the truck just stopped running. I had just turned from [XXX] onto [XXX] and had not gotten up to speed. I was only traveling at about 25 mph when the truck seized and stopped. No power to control vehicle. No power and no warning prior to no power. Only 18k miles on the truck and it died and wouldn't restart. It sat in the middle of the road and stayed in the middle of the road for an hour waiting on a tow. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Truck just made a year old and killed on me in the middle of road. They are saying I need a new engine and maybe transmission. Could not shift truck into neutral, which left me stranded on busy road. For unsafe and had me nervous. Trying to get GMC to buy me out of this vehicle. Had same problem with 6.2 liter prior to this truck. Engine and transmission was replaced. They promised if I bought new truck, I wouldn’t have the issues and here I am again. This is terrible. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN | While driving I experienced a loss of forward momentum, and watched the RPMs go up to 3000, wording came on the dash, but I was in traffic and wasn't able to read. I was able to reach next light about 1/4 mile, and stopped. Mad a left turn and within 200 feet, same issue. I pulled over and called OnStar. Towed to dealer. Dealer put on lift right away, as it was just in for 1st service on Saturday, with 4775 miles. Dealer informed me of a bulletin out for removing transmission pan, and splitting plates to check a ball size for 6th gear, which they found during the computer diagnostic checks. They claim to have a part tomorrow, and will install soon after. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN | DEF tank heater, diesel exhaust fluid heater has failed which causes the truck to go into a reduced speed until fixed. GM has no parts to fix the issue! at my dealer. Currently there is three or four trucks waiting on the exact same part, it puts the truck into reduced power and speed until part is replaced | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The reverse lights don’t illuminate camera when you’re in a dark parking lot or area. If and when camera is relied on for reverse, you wouldn’t be able to see a person or anything else. It’s a lighting problem. When you are in an area that is lit (dealer parking lot) you can see fine. I also own a 2014 Chevrolet and camera works fine in dark and lit areas. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | STRUCTURE,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE | 1.During December 2024, noticed the wrap or called grill part at the back of the truck detached 2.On 5th February, got a warning :reduce acceleration with caution, when I pressed gas pedal, could not go faster than 35mph, the truck was shaking really hard. It has been in the dealership waiting for valve body until today 13th March, still no idea when it will be fixed | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | Catastrophic Engine Failure | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | Engine locked up while driving. I was able to get off the highway. Truck would not crank back up. When trying to start it screens would light up then go black. I had truck towed to nearest GM dealership. The GM dealership informed me that the engine was locked up. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The vehicle was traveling over a hill, and it failed to shift gears downwards when traveling over the hill. The vehicle’s RPM’s shot up to 4000+ and jolted the truck forward without pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle made a loud noise and would not accelerate in the middle of the road. The vehicle would only accelerate after giving it minimal gas from the pedal. The truck then failed to accelerate on the entire drive to the destination and failed to enter reverse upon arriving to my destination. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | Driving on the highway vehicle installed out in the middle of the road lucky I had enough speed to rush to the median. I heard noise coming from the engine while I was coasting off the median on the median. Try to turn on the vehicle no luck. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on a main road at 65 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact coasted to a stop in the shoulder lane and allowed the vehicle to sit for several minutes before attempting to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 23,000 |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | Was driving approx 70 MPH when the truck lost power and put itself into neutral. Had to pull over on busy [XXX] in Missoula at 15deg F. Truck display said "restart vehicle". Once pulled over, truck put itself into PARK. Truck would not restart after multiple attempts. Was towed to dealer where they stated the engine may have seized. | Feb 2025 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Back up camera is almost useless in very dark situations. Back up lights on vehicle wash out the view and all you can see are the red marker lines. Needs either brighter back up lights or a better camera definition. You cannot see a children's bike or other things while trying to back up. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | ENGINE | Engine failed at 10,000 miles while driving down the road. No warnings, engine shut off while driving. I pulled over and contacted OnStar. They got me a tow truck to bring the truck back to the dealer the next day. I was told that I needed a new engine and they don’t know when they’re gonna get one in. It could be months. I had to pay for a Rent-A-Car out of my own pocket. The dealer would not cover the cost. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | ENGINE | I am beyond frustrated with my newly purchased 2024 GMC Sierra Elevation 1500 5.3l V8. Back in November I was notified to bring my vehicle back to the dealership for a complete engine replacement. Ever since this time I have had continuous problems with the vehicle. One day after receiving my truck back, I noticed that it was running rough and misfiring. When I opened the hood, I observed a bungy cord still attached to the engine. Several weeks after, the check engine light came on and took a week to get back due to sensor issues with engine. Today, after getting off work, I turned on my truck, but I am unable to shift out of park and I am stuck waiting on a tow truck. There has been nothing but issues with this truck since they replaced the engine. I am not sure if the mechanics at Garlyn Shelton GMC in Temple, Texas, are qualified to replace engines. This is a brand new truck and I should not be having these issues. My fear is that these problems are going to continue because they either did not properly install the new engine or there are still defects. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | ENGINE | At 14,000 miles the engine seized. Car stopped on a busy highway almost causing a collision with other vehicles | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | POWER TRAIN | First time it happened was on November 28th 2024 around 8pm, turned de engine on, selected the reverse gear and stepped on the gas, the reverse gear was selected but the gear didn't worked at all. I almost hit a car that was passing on the street. I out the gear on drive and got the message "reduced acceleration". I believe that is a known issue by GM's 10 speed gearbox. The car is at the dealership and they informed me by e-mail that the part transmission valve body is in a "do not sell list". I have concerns about safety because losing power on a 70miles per hour road can be dangerous and not being able to reverse is also very dangerous. There are tons of posts about it in Facebook. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | I have experienced several occurrences of unintended acceleration while operating the vehicle at low speed. Two recent examples; 1) the truck accelerated rapidly while I was driving into my garage, and 2) the truck accelerated suddenly when pulling forward out of a parking spot in the morning shortly after starting the vehicle. In all cases, a hard application of the brake pedal slowed the vehicle. I considered whether this was operator error, possibly engaging cruise control inadvertently while turning the steering wheel, but the incident this morning does not support that potential cause. I have not spoken to the dealer about this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | ENGINE | 6.2L V8 engine failure | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 74 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power, after which the vehicle was unable to accelerate above 25 MPH. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway and turned off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the shift solenoid valve and that the serial data gateway module needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 24,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 24,000 |
| Feb 2025 | STRUCTURE | Since my purchase of the vehicle Dec 2023, the tailgate opens on its own. Usually follows hitting a bump such as the rain gutter entering a store parking area. I have also had it occur while driving down the road. Have been told multiple times by my service personnel they have had same complaints from other Sierra 1500 but have no fix for the problem. They have offered to deactivate the electronic tailgate system but this is unacceptable to me. There is a recall for 2500 models with same issue but not for 1500’s. This makes little sense. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | POWER TRAIN | 7500 miles and transmission valve body failed. Parts are on back order with no eta. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | ENGINE | Since owning my truck new, the vehicle has had numerous issues with loose exhaust and engine components. The truck has had loose catalytic converter bolts, heat shield and exhaust components causing severe vibration in the driveline, dash and floorboard. My son has the same truck 3.0 LZO other than his being a 2025, he has experienced the same issues. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
