| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apr 2025 | STRUCTURE | At approximate 36700 miles. Upper top molding piece next to the grill, flew off while driving down the highway at 75mph hit my windshield and cracked it. Lucky no one was flowing me. This is the second one that's has broken. The first time was driving in South Dakoda the day after I purchased the truck and one side broke so I was able to stop at a truck stop and duck tape it until I was able to take it to the dealer. This seams to be a flaw, because read this has happen to multiple truck of the same model. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | STRUCTURE | Twice in the last few weeks my tailgate has opened while driving the vehicle. Prior to this, the tailgate has never dropped while driving since the vehicle has been new. The tailgate was not down whenever I left, but it was down whenever I got to my location. I did not hit the tailgate button to drop the tailgate at any time before during or after this trip. On the one occurrence, items were lost from the bed of the truck, which could cause a road hazard for other motorists. There were no warning lights or notifications that the tailgate was open on the driver information center or elsewhere. I have service scheduled with the dealer on 5/2/25 to inspect the vehicle. I am unsure at what point in the trip the tailgate opened. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | In the midst of driving my vehicle, soon after exiting the expressway. I received a notification across the dashboard stating to press the brake to start engine. It was totally confusing because I was actually driving and doing so at a speed of approximately 45 miles per hour because I just exited the freeway. Then I noticed the car would not accelerate. At that point I realized that my car had shut down on me while in the midst of driving. I had to very cautiously maneuver my way through traffic to the side of the road where I parked and called onstar for help. This was a very scary moment because I felt as if I could have very easily caused an accident and injured or cost the life of myself or an innocent person. The engine shut down was not evident because all the dashboard lights were still functioning as normal. I don't feel safe driving the vehicle and would very much like to replace with something else, but I feel stuck with it. Dealership says that the vehicle depreciation for one year was $10,000.00 and that I will have to roll that 10k into the price of any new vehicle if I wanted to get out of the current lease. That makes the purchase of newer, safer vehicle unaffordable for me, so again I feel stuck driving something that could have very easily cost me my life. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while stopped at an intersection attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle lost power and the infotainment center failed to operate. The contact stated that the vehicle was on the left side of the roadway waiting for Roadside Assistance for the vehicle to be towed to the dealer. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 50,000 |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | Engine exploded. No warning just quit running while cruise control set, just had a thump and started to slow down as engine quit running. Caused a problem as road had no shoulder. Had to be towed to dealer for engine replacement. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | Vehicle was purchased new in December 2023. In January 2024, with 110 miles on the vehicle the engine blew. Took over a month to get a new engine installed. In March 2025, with 14,500 miles on the vehicle, the engine blew again, This time i was traveling on a busy New York parkway with my [XXX] grandson. Luckily i was able to coast off the parkway without incident. I am now still awaiting a third engine to be installed. | Apr 2025 | STEERING | I bought this new vehicle from Diamond Chevrolet in Auburn, MA, in November 2024. The truck currently has approximately 10,000 miles on it. On two separate and distinct instances, the truck suffered a complete loss of power steering while driving on the highway. In both instances, the issue persisted until I turned the vehicle off. Numerous warning indicators were illuminated on the dashboard (Service Power Steering, Drive with Care, Service ESC, etc). A loss of power steering is a significant safety defect, and it was hard to steer the truck at lower speeds. The dealership and General Motors were able to replicate the issue and replace the entire power steering rack during the first instance of power steering loss. Currently, the vehicle is still being diagnosed by the dealership and General Motors for the current yet similar issue. The issue is intermittent but poses a significant public safety risk to the consumer and general motoring public. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | POWER TRAIN | # 11648853 issue started on [XXX] I just experienced the same issue yesterday, and left it at dealership. Transmission fails to shift, upon entering highway, and concerned about being struck from behind. GMC dealer claimed to have addressed the issue at 4785 miles, and now 4 weeks later, at 5196 the same issue started again. I felt a slight shudder, and then loss of power, and "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" came on instrument panel, along with check engine light on. | Apr 2025 | ENGINE | As I was driving down the feeder road of a major highway, the light (press brake to start engine) came on. I was traveling around 55 miles per hour. I pressed the brake and pressed the start button but nothing happened. At this point I was coasting as the engine had died. The radio and electrical system were fully operational. I tried restarting the engine several times while coasting along the busy feeder road. I finally pulled into the right side lane (there was no shoulder) and applied the brakes. Once fully stopped, I was not able to start the engine. I called my GMC dealer for the name of a tow truck. The tow was able to pick up my truck about 45 minutes later. I am still waiting on a new engine from GMC with no time update from my dealer. This incident happened on 03/03/2025. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | Experienced catastrophic engine failure while driving down the highway. Was able to coast to a turning lane in an intersection then once I came to a stop my truck proceeded to go into park and was not able to be moved. Engine would no longer start/turn over and vechile remained in park without begin able to go into neutral so had to wait for roll back tow truck to load my truck while sitting in the middle of a busy road with no way to move. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 6,000 |
| Apr 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Driving on the highway, moving to pass another vehicle, engine shut off forcing me to coast to the shoulder. No warnings and didn't notice loss of power until I saw that the vehicle had been shifted into neutral. Had 2 kids in the truck and could not get GMC service department on the phone, had to walk up an onramp in order to get my kids home with me in an Uber. This is a 2024 6.2L GMC with only 13,000 miles. Service department took over a week to check initial issues, said it was a fuse block which they replaced. Did not resolve the issue, then it was the starter, which did not resolve the issue, after 2 weeks they told me the engine was locked up due to internal failure and it will be several months before the truck is operable. GM has stated they the issue needs to occur 4 times before a buyback would be considered. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE | Engine seized. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | 6.2L engine seized, same bearing issue as everyone else | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | I purchased the vehicle brand new in October of 2023, since then the vehicle has been to service over 15 times for engine failure, vibration while driving on the highway etc. At times when the vehicle shut down it was without warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN | As I pulled away from a stop sign, my vehicle started surging and went into limp mode, I pulled over to the side of the road to get out of the way of traffic and could not drive in reverse as I tried to park safely on the shoulder of the road. I had to have truck towed and deealership stated there was an issue with the transmission control valve and it would need to be rebuilt. Performed GM TSB 25-NA-014. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | After 17500 miles and 11 months ownership 6.2ltr engine stopped operations while driving, in traffic and locked up on interstate without warning. Towed to Chevrolet Dealership and disassembled, main crankshaft bearings failed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | My vehicle started rough with rattling and knocking one morning. I contacted my dealer and made an appointment. I received an appointment for about a week out and did not operate the vehicle until that day. Upon bringing the vehicle to the GMC maintenance shop, the vehicle’s engine ceased and had to be towed the remainder of the trip. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | My motor seized and shut off while driving 63 mph on a busy highway going up hill. Truck made it to the top of the hill before it shut off and had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. No warning lights or anything. Rpms locked at 3000 and wouldn’t go up or down until the motor shut off. Switched itself to neutral while it was rolling still and wouldn’t allow my to put the truck in park when stopped. Finally locked itself in park and wouldn’t allow to be shifted to neutral. Dealership said the motor seized and ordered a new one but is on back order | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | On the morning of March 12, 2025, I started experiencing a ticking sound from the engine bay under throttle. I suspected lifter failure and decided to proceed to the dealership that afternoon for repairs. During my commute, the engine started squealing and shuddering and I experienced a severe loss of acceleration which made it almost unsafe to drive on the highway. Upon coming to a stop in traffic, the engine died. I was able to get it restarted and proceeded to continue my trek to the dealership. Upon another traffic stop, the engine died again, at which point I made the decision to exit the highway and continue my journey along the service road. Twice more the engine died when coming to a stop and the 4th time it struggled to restart. I finally decided to pull into a parking lot and as I was backing into a parking space, the engine died its final time and would not crank/turn over. To make matters more difficult, the transmission would not even shift out of "PARK" into "NEUTRAL" for it to be laoded onto a tow truck. Each time I tried to shift out of "PARK" I received a message stating "Conditions for shift not met" | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | While driving on a 55 mp road [XXX] the truck just stopped running. I had just turned from [XXX] onto [XXX] and had not gotten up to speed. I was only traveling at about 25 mph when the truck seized and stopped. No power to control vehicle. No power and no warning prior to no power. Only 18k miles on the truck and it died and wouldn't restart. It sat in the middle of the road and stayed in the middle of the road for an hour waiting on a tow. | Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Truck just made a year old and killed on me in the middle of road. They are saying I need a new engine and maybe transmission. Could not shift truck into neutral, which left me stranded on busy road. For unsafe and had me nervous. Trying to get GMC to buy me out of this vehicle. Had same problem with 6.2 liter prior to this truck. Engine and transmission was replaced. They promised if I bought new truck, I wouldn’t have the issues and here I am again. This is terrible. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN | While driving I experienced a loss of forward momentum, and watched the RPMs go up to 3000, wording came on the dash, but I was in traffic and wasn't able to read. I was able to reach next light about 1/4 mile, and stopped. Mad a left turn and within 200 feet, same issue. I pulled over and called OnStar. Towed to dealer. Dealer put on lift right away, as it was just in for 1st service on Saturday, with 4775 miles. Dealer informed me of a bulletin out for removing transmission pan, and splitting plates to check a ball size for 6th gear, which they found during the computer diagnostic checks. They claim to have a part tomorrow, and will install soon after. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The reverse lights don’t illuminate camera when you’re in a dark parking lot or area. If and when camera is relied on for reverse, you wouldn’t be able to see a person or anything else. It’s a lighting problem. When you are in an area that is lit (dealer parking lot) you can see fine. I also own a 2014 Chevrolet and camera works fine in dark and lit areas. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
