| May 2025 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I was traveling on the interstate, going a little over 70 MPH as I was passing a tractor and trailer. There were no other vehicles in front of me. Suddenly the truck jerked like the breaks were being applied and my speed was quickly reduced to around 60 MPH. The heads up display showed a crash alert orange symbol. I pushed the gas to try to get back up to speed but the truck would not accelerate and the speed kept dropping. I pulled over to the berm and came to a stop. There was a message on the message center but it went away before I could read it with everything else happening. I put the truck in park and waited a minute then I pulled back out and was able to get the truck back up to speed and home. I plan to contact my dealer tomorrow. The ruck was involved in an accident that damaged the front in earlier this year so I believe some or all of those sensors have been replaced. This is the first issue we’ve had since purchase. If there would have been a vehicle following behind me, the rapid breaking/deceleration could have caused an accident. The truck has been in repair 7 times in the past 11 months and multiple parts have been changed. I learned that there are thousands of General Motors 1500 trucks equipped with the 3.0 LZ0 Duramax diesel engine exhibiting the same symptoms. A General Motors Field Engineer found Broken exhaust bracket studs at the engine block caused by exhaust alignment and engine/transmission mount stress from worn components. | May 2025 | ENGINE | General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exist in my 2024 model year GMC Sierra 1500 vehicle equipped with the 6.2L V8 gas engine (RPO L87). The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components in these vehicles have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure. If the engine fails during vehicle operation, the vehicle will lose propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash !!!! After contacting my local GM dealers, three of them, NONE OF THEM CAN OR KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THIS LIFE SAFETY ISSUE with my vehicle. I don't recall if I had cruise control on or not as I rarely use it. There was no vehicle was in front of me for hundreds of yards yet all of a sudden the vehicle started to brake very hard. I accelerated as I did not know what was going on and I had a car in back of me that started to gain. THEN last Friday ([XXX}) with my wife following me in her car on [XXX] through Ellicott City MD I was traveling at approx 25-30 MPH through a very small historic town when all of a sudden the same [XXX] thing happened. DEF no CC on . When we got to our destination I asked my wife if she saw my brakes come on suddenly?. She replied yes and said she saw the truck dip hard. I told her the brakes did it again. She said I should call the dealer. I did not as they are USELESS! THEN the electronics. On Star has a catalog of my complaints. The radio selections I make just disappear from the screen: Apple Car Play disappears from the touch screen and just goes dark. I have to stop the truck..(per on-star) open the door.. get out.. lock it.. wait 2 minutes.. get back in .. restart the truck, and this re-sets the computers(s). RIDICULOUS! I do not have Sirius but the radio goes dark often for about 2-3 seconds., then comes back on. I was told it is my I-Phone is causing this. [XXX]! What does my phone have to do with AM/FM radio?? I was told by GMC there is a patch to update the software. Koons GMC told me there was no such patch nor recall. I paid nearly $80,000 for this piece of [XXX]! I don't want the engine issue to happen while they are in the truck and increases the risk to get into an accident if the engine fails. They stated I have to call back in two weeks which should be unacceptable because how about if the engine fails within the two weeks and causes even more issues for me and my family. Near the end of February, it was getting worse and the locks started locking/unlocking on their own. The vehicle stalled two separate times while driving on a main road. The first couple days of March, the car stalled, again on the road while the locks went crazy. Then, on [XXX], after I had pulled out of my driveway in my neighborhood, my car completely shut down. We had to have the truck towed to Coyle GMC, in Clarksville, Indiana. And, as of May 1st, it is still there. We have been told they need some cap for the transmission and they don't know when they will get it. They offered to give us a new transmission, but they don't know when they'll get it. I am making car payments on a car that I have not had since May 7th. Unfortunately, because I drive my car for work, it had it's 32000 miles on it, so I can't turn it in for the lemon law. I'm very lucky that my son and I were not injured when the car stalled in the middle of the road. This is an ongoing issue with GMC, and I think it should be illegal that they were selling these trucks. I have a brand new truck that I haven't driven in 2 months. | Apr 2025 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | On April 21, 2025 around 11pm, I was entering my neighborhood, I was slowing to a stop, the truck shut off, shifted to neutral on its own. Clusters were still on though, no error codes other than instruction to turn ignition back on. I tried for over 20 minutes with no luck. I placed the truck in park and shut it off after that I couldn't get it change back to neutral. Was on the phone with onstar and recorded it. Eventually it turned on with check engine light, made it home. On April 22, 2025, I dropped it off at Classic Buick GMC 16835 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77094. Service rep informed me I will require a new engine as there are metal shavings in the oil filter as a result of worn cam shaft bearings. No lights, hazard lights, nothing would turn on for over 10 minutes, then once started my truck said "shut off engine, low oil pressure". | Apr 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | While exiting the highway and transitioning into a turn lane, my 2024 GMC Sierra AT4 (with 12,887 miles) suddenly and completely shut down without any prior warning. All vehicle systems—including electrical—failed simultaneously. This included the dashboard, steering assistance, and emergency lights, which significantly compromised my safety. I was unable to alert surrounding drivers or move the vehicle out of the traffic lane. There were multiple cars behind me, and I was placed in an extremely unsafe situation due to the sudden loss of control and inability to signal or restart the vehicle. I immediately contacted emergency services, and a police officer arrived approximately 10 minutes later to assist. Roadside assistance later pulled diagnostic code P0016 from the truck’s computer. I have since learned that this code corresponds to a known engine timing defect and is the subject of a recent GMC recall issued just days prior to the incident. The failure occurred without any warning lights, messages, or symptoms beforehand. The vehicle is now with a GMC dealer and is available for inspection upon request.
