| Oct 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The built in GPS map on the touchscreen of the car positions the car roughly 50 miles east of its current location. Minimally this can result in distracted driving if I attempt to use the map for directions since it has an inaccurate starting point. The VW dealership has not been able to repair the problem. Ten days in the shop and Volkswagen has not provided a remedy for this dangerous malfunction. No end in sight for this repair. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I am writing to bring to your attention an issue we recently encountered with our 2023 VW ID.4. We began hearing a clicking noise and brought the vehicle in for a diagnostic inspection. The dealership has informed us that the rear drive motor has failed and that the vehicle requires a full motor replacement, estimated at nearly $5,000. Our ID.4 is only 2.5 years old with 62,000 miles. We have truly enjoyed driving it and chose Volkswagen because of its reputation for quality and reliability. To see such a critical component fail this early is very disappointing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | We have dozens of videos of our ID.4 continuing to malfunction after the 919A recall had supposedly been completed. There are a slew of electrical and software issues related to windows, door handles, infotainment, charger handle disengagement, brakes and various sensors… We have gone through all of the proper channels. Two dealerships have attempted to advocate for us in Illinois and VW refuses to acknowledge any ongoing issues. It appears, possibly, that the ODIS system is not logging these errors at all. Files too large to upload. Can provide links. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | To the left of the steering wheel, there is a button for “Max Windshield Defog”. When this button is pressed, the fan speed slows down and does not help clear visibility of a foggy windshield. Instead, the driver must navigate through several on screen menus to find and manually adjust for windshield defog, which is a safety concern while operating the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While driving the infotainment system switched off entirely, the screen went black and after roughly 1 minute rebooted. I had both my hands on the steering wheel and was NOT operating the infotainment system. During this time, the right hand side of main clocks/dials in front of the driver inverted from black background to white background. Fortunately I was at a traffic light when this happened. I waited for the system to reset before I released the brake and drove on, it was not a very pleasant experience. I have already had software upgraded based on a previous recall to address this very issue. So clearly the recall did not address the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? THE TAILGATE DOOR HOLDING MECHANISM (GAS PRESSURIZED STRUTS) HAS FAILED SO THAT THE DOOR NO LONGER STAYS OPEN. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? YES, THE TAILGATE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY AND CAN COME DOWN VERY HARD ENDANGERING THOSE TRYING TO PUT THINGS IN THE TRUNK. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED HAPPENING, THE DOOR WOULD CLOSE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING DURING PLACING ITEMS IN THE BACK AREA. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? UNKNOWN 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? NO 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID4. The contact stated that while driving into his driveway at 20 MPH, his jacket brushed against the resume button for the cruise control, and the vehicle launched forward, causing him to crash into the curb on two occasions. While at a car wash, the contact brushed against the resume button, and the vehicle lunged forward, startling the car wash worker. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who dismissed his concerns and informed him that the type of failure was not possible. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | 14,000 |
| Sep 2025 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | I was turning into a parking space on the street. I let my foot off the gas in order to brake.... as I did so the car LURCHED forward on its own about 2-3 feet running into the curb and damaging the wheel, the rim and the tire. I stomped on the brake, turned off the car, and restarted the car in order to finish parking (get out of traffic) and assess the damage. Thankfully nobody was hurt, although I am quite shaken up, losing confidence in the car... I have no idea what system malfunctioned.. the car went forward on its own with my foot off the accelerator. I've never experienced this before with this car or any other car. I drove the car directly to the service department at the dealership where they said they would inspect it and report it as well. I have not called the police. I have not alerted the insurance company. There were no warning lights before or after this incident. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | SUSPENSION,SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in the NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 25V434000 (SERVICE BRAKES, SUSPENSION), 24V651000 (STRUCTURE), 25V120000 (POWER TRAIN, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC), and 24V344000 (BACK OVER PREVENTION, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). After contacting the local dealer and the manufacturer, the contact was informed that parts to complete the recalls were on backorder. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced the failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,BACK OVER PREVENTION | This issue relates to NHTSA Recall 24V344 / VW Recall 919A as the repair for this recall has already been applied to my vehicle. Despite that, while driving, my vehicle experienced a complete electronics shutdown, including loss of the instrument cluster, center display, and rearview camera. This occurred after the recall 919A software update was applied. As such, I believe the safety of my self and others was put at risk. I brought my vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and they identified fault code U111000 with symptom 7223 but informed me that this was classified “non-customer-relevant” and therefore should be ignored. I believe the repair that Volkswagen has provided for Recall 24V344 is ineffective and the conditions that instigated this recall still exist. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | A message stating forward collision assist is unavailable. The adaptive cruise control does not see the vehicle in front of you. The vehicle randomly emergency brakes. And a four Mile drive it would emergency brake three times. Dealer stated it was fixed. I return to the vehicle an hour later stating the problem persists and it is not fixed or safe to drive. I have a text from the dealer confirming the problem persists they have unable to diagnose or repair. The car is in their possession since June 7th 2025 | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The cruise control failed to slow down , instead it accelerated . My safety and the safety of my families was put at risk due to a sudden stop in I25 southbound cause us to slow down and when I pushed the down arrows to slow us down and pushed the brake pedal we didn’t slow down, instead we were jolted forward in accelerating speeds. Thankfully we missed the car in front of us due to us me swerving into the shoulder to assure no collision. The problem has happened on 4 different occasions. Volkswagen is aware of the issue and we have not received any kind of update or remedy for the defect. No one has inspected it , we were to have an appointment this Monday Sept 9th to have it all checked out. The gps , sos button , road side assistance and speedometer aren’t functioning properly in our car as well. No warnings lights were on and no notifications of any problems. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | LANE DEPARTURE | I am a current lessee of a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 (VIN: [XXX] ), leased on [XXX], under a 36‑month agreement (Lease Account #: [XXX]). The vehicle is still under warranty at 23,000 miles. The navigation/GPS system has a persistent defect (location drift far from actual position), verified by dealership technicians on multiple visits. On my second visit, the dealer refused to escalate to Volkswagen, citing a vague “Verizon update” explanation, despite my personal carrier being unrelated to the vehicle’s built-in navigation. The defect is plainly internal to the vehicle’s hardware/software. I attempted to contact Volkswagen Customer CARE and was left on hold for over 40 minutes before the call disconnected, with no assistance provided. This is a breach of warranty and a failure to provide adequate service. I request the Division compel Volkswagen to: - Escalate my case to technical specialists and repair the defect (including module replacement if necessary), or - Waive all lease-related fees and penalties (early termination, disposition, excess wear) if I return the vehicle due to unresolved defects. I can provide service records, dealership notes, video evidence, and call log INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | There has been an active recall on this vehicle for one year. The dealership has failed to repair the door handle recall in a timely manner. The dealerships I have called said they don’t have the parts in stock to repair the recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Electronic Software vehicle manual not fully downloaded. Software versions also not in display | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Buttons on steering wheel can be accidentally activated when you move your hand over buttons. Very dangerous. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The front left headlight parking light went out after 24 months. This is a product quality issue which should not happen. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | While accelerating and decelerating, there is a low popping noise that comes from under the floor of the car. It sounds like metal reacting to a change in temperature when it pops, like if you pour hot water into a metal sink. This has been a consistent issue for over a year, and despite the dealerships attempts to fix the issue by replacing the sway bar and tightening the suspension and upper and lower control arms, the noise persists during acceleration and deceleration. The dealership was able to reproduce the issue when we have taken it in. There are no warning lights associated with this issue. If this issue is related to the battery or to the breaks, it could be a serious safety problem. We've taken it in for this issue 4 times and we'll take it in again this week, and the dealership has held the car for over two weeks total to try to fix it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | It appears that the wiring was chewed by a rodent. It also looks like it could be a case of the wiring rubbing on the vehicle and exposing the hv wire. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | It is very easy to inadvertently touch the "SET" button for the cruise control. The button is capacitive so a very light touch activates the button, and it is on the outer edge of steering wheel spoke, meaning a light brush while turning the wheel activate the button. When maneuvering at slow speeds (such as in a parking lot) this results in the car accelerating, uncommanded, and without warning, up to the minimum speed of the cruise control. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While driving at highway speeds, driver display went blank without warning. Similar symptoms to known issue causing a recall that was supposedly remedied. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID-4. The contact stated while pulling into a parking space at barely 2 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and crashed into the rear of a building. The contact stated that while reversing from the scene, the failure recurred, and the vehicle failed to stop upon depressing the brake pedal and was uncontrollable. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into a big concrete and iron post and stopped. A nearby auto body shop technician informed the contact that the vehicle was a total loss. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the automatic emergency braking system failed to engage as designed. The air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed, but the contact did not have the police report information available. The vehicle was towed to the police impound lot. The insurance company then towed the vehicle to IAA, a salvage vehicle auction lot, but the insurance company had not confirmed that the vehicle was a total loss. There was was property damage. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | 26,000 |
| Aug 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Cruise control / resume cruise can inadvertently be activated due to the haptic touch pads on the steering wheel. On multiple occasions when exiting a highway after using cruise control and while turning the steering wheel, my hand inadvertently brushes against the RESUME haptic touch pad, causing the vehicle to immediately speed up to my last preset cruise speed. This is a constant issue as I use my vehicle daily for work purposes, and has caused multiple near-accidents. Per my dealer, Volkswagen does not have a fix for this. This is a non-issue in my other VW vehicle, as it has button instead of haptic touch on the steering wheel. Haptic touch should not be on a steering wheel. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The speed indication that syncs with posted speed limits does not work, it either posts an incorrect speed or no speed at all. VW indicated this only affects some vehicles and they have no fix. It’s extremely dangerous if I see the limit as 70 mph on the car and then 1 mile later see a sign indicating I’m in a 35 mph zone | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2025 | STRUCTURE | The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure). The contact stated that on several occasions after receiving a car wash, the driver’s side door failed to open as intended from the outside. The contact stated that the door needed to be opened from the inside. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions, while occupants were seated in the rear seat, the passengers were unable to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that during the failure, the rear seat occupants climbed over the seats to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the driver’s side door handle was faulty, and the door handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred months later. The vehicle was taken to another dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was approximately 15,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 15,000 |
