Jul 2024 SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I have towed this vehicle behind my motorhome for the past year and have used a Brake Buddy system to stop the vehicle should it ever break away from the tow brackets. I used the Brake Buddy system for 5 years on a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee prior to buying this 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have never had any issues before. Recently, while towing the vehicle, I set it up for towing as Jeep recommends and either had a malfunction of the Automatic Electronic Brakes (AEB) or the Brake Buddy. Even though the tires never developed a flat spot on them due to dragging the vehicle, there was pressure applied to the brake pedal that caused the brakes to get so hot that the rubber brake lines melted at the fittings or blew out of the fittings causing me to lose all fluid. The NTHSA requires that all light-duty vehicles have AEB systems installed on them by 2026. I questioned Jeep as to the cause of my issue and they determined it was not their fault. I contacted Brake Buddy and they claimed they were just recently made aware of this problem and have since determined their system is not compatible with AEB equipped vehicles. I have talked to several installers that set up tow vehicles to be towed and they are of aware of this. Who has the responsibility to inform the public and industry that there is a problem here? Jeep advertises their vehicle is towable with all 4 wheels on the ground but makes no mention of having to install a State Law required braking system in the tow vehicle or potential compatibility issues. Had this tow vehicle come loose, it could have cause damage and potentially the loss of life!

Jul 2024 ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The vehicle will run extremely rough and not accelerate when needed especially after filling the tank with gasoline. It will almost die in the intersection when you’re trying to get past Traffic. It will not reach Highway speed at times and when you step on the gas the engine makes a strange noise and it slows down. The vehicle is very dangerous in this regard. One time I almost had an accident because of it. I have had the vehicle to the Jeep dealership at least six times for this issue and they cannot confirm that it happens on their own and they cannot fix it. I have video evidence of this problem taking place over many months. Chrysler and jeep will not help me. I am concerned about the welfare of the public if they are driving a similar vehicle.

Jul 2024 AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER We were in a serious car accident. We were T-boned and rolled two or three times. We had to be pulled from the upside down Grand Cherokee. Our complaint is the fuel fill line broke and poured 23 gallons of raw gasoline into the car. My husband was overcome by the gas and and to be revived twice. I had blacked out due to the force of the air bags. We were okay with now, we were removed before the car exploded. The gas should have never entered the cabin!!! If our experience could help someone else we would be relieved.

Jul 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM While we (Husband, Wife, [XXX] old & [XXX] old daughter) were doing a cross country road trip from Olympia, WA to Raleigh, NC, we experienced a serious safety issue while driving in the State of Iowa on [XXX] The incident happened around 5 PM local time on [XXX] just before [XXX] in the outskirts of Davenport, IA. The GPS location of the incident is (XXX) While I was driving in this freeway on the left most lane doing around 70 mph, suddenly I lost power to the engines. Within seconds, I managed to my pull over my vehicle to the shoulder. After few trials of restarting my vehicle, I couldn't get it to start. So, I ended up calling the Jeep Roadside Assistance. Due to the concern of the safety of my family on the freeway, I called 911 seeking assistance for protecting my family inside the car from the fast moving vehicles. Within 15-20 mins of my call, the Roadside assistance personnel as well as the Iowa State Highway Helper arrived at the scene to assist us. The Tow truck person and the Highway helper both tried some steps to get my vehicle to start, but they couldn't. So, the tow person offered to tow my Jeep to the nearby Jeep Dealership (Kimberly Car City) at Davenport, IA (whom I called around 5:10 PM to alert them of my situation). The Tow person towed the vehicle and also rode me and my [XXX] to the Jeep dealership, whilst the Highway Helper rode my wife and [XXX] to the same dealership. We reached the dealership around 5:45 PM and they were closing at 6 PM. So, the dealership had a technician look at my vehicle the next day (XXX) and he found that my fuel sensors malfunctioned and wasn't displaying the correct fuel reading. Whilst the fuel gauge indicated that I was still having about 100 miles of fuel left to go, I was actually completely run out of fuel. Had I not acted within seconds, my vehicle would have come to a complete stop in the middle of the freeway posing severe danger to our lives. Jul 2024 SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE While driving lost the power brakes making stopping vehicle incredibly difficult having to apply excessive force to brake pedal and shift into neutral to stop. Vehicle could not be driven for service and needed to be towed. If my wife had been driving her car, she would not be able to stop as I (her husband) had to apply leg force as much as I could apply to get vehicle to slow down and had to shift to neutral to stop. We avoided being in an accident but it was very close. Vehicle has been towed for repair and currently do not know what is wrong with the vehicle but it is definitely a safety concern.

Jul 2024 SUSPENSION The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the contact’s daughter was driving approximately 60–65 MPH, the rear coil spring detached from the vehicle. The contact was unaware if there were any warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was previously taken to the local dealer, who repaired the vehicle under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V413000 (Suspension). The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Jul 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there was a loud roaring sound coming from the vehicle soon after starting the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where a diagnostic test failed to determine the cause of the failure. The contact was referred to the manufacturer for further assistance and a second diagnostic test was performed. The dealer replaced one of the speakers in the vehicle which helped to reduce the noise. The contact stated that after the repair was performed, the contact stated that several electrical failures had occurred including multiple warning lights were displayed. The contact was informed that the infotainment screen was showing a blank screen, the sunroof was independently opening while the vehicle was off, and the truck hatch had failed to open after several attempts. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle shut off while driving at various speeds. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer West Herr Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat of Rochester (4477 W Ridge Rd, Rochester, NY 14626) where the vehicle remained in the dealer's possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 700.

Jul 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Vehicle has a system to diagnose if the connected trailer has an inoperative bulb. The system is incorrectly assessing that the Thule Epos bike racks break lights and turn signal lamps are working, resulting in constant driver distractions from the warning lights. Every brake or turn the system beeps and illuminates warning lights when in fact there is no problems with the lights. Jeep refuses to address the issue as the bike rack is a "third party" accessory and Thule says their system is working so it's a Jeep issue. Warning system is a nuisance causing distractions while driving.

Jul 2024 POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE On 7/9/24 I was driving on the highway and jeep began to lose power and speed. I was unable to accelerate to maintain speed or safely pull to the shoulder. Jeep completely lost power and stopped in the middle of the highway and I had to wait with hazards until I could successfully turn on the car and drive again. This exact thing happened again today on 7/16/24 it was very dangerous and scary especially since I was almost rear ended.

Jun 2024 POWER TRAIN on/about 3/20 while driving on the freeway changing lanes, the transmission went from 8th gear to 3rd and did so with such violently it felt as though i was struck by another car. The transmission did this multiple times with multiple drivers. This has been a systemic problem since i bought the car with 11 miles on the odometer from a Jeep dealer. last, the transmission stuck in 8th gear and barley rolled into a driveway where it had to be towed to the dealer for not being able to select a gear and with a check engine lite on. This jeep has been at the dealers service shop for over 45 days with issues related to the transmission and only had 3000 miles on the odometer currently. This has been a problem since being purchased. multiple forms talk about transmission issues on their like model 2020-2023 jeep grand cherokees.

Jun 2024 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The engine would randomly accelerate , rev and make a whining noise, slip into neutral and I would have to pull over and shut it off sometimes in an unsafe area. Occasionally when I would start the engine it would rev as though I had my foot on the gas and I would shut it back off. I was traveling on the highway approximately 70 mph and cancelled the cruise control to go around a curve and pressed on the gas to merge into 70 mph traffic on another highway, and nothing happened. When I got to the end of the ramp the car was going 32 mph with my foot to the floor on the gas panic stricken. Suddenly the gas engaged and I shot into the traffic trying to avoid me. I took the car home, parked it in the garage and called a local dealership for service explaining the problems I was having. I went to resume my trip in a friends car because I was frightened to drive mine. While I was away my partner went to move the car a few feet to get to the trash barrel and when he put it in reverse the car shot 8 feet at high speed out of the garage and hit a tree. He went to the hospital and the car was taken on a flatbed to the dealership where I purchased it. There is considerable damage. The acceleration problem happened at least 15 times and I have several adults that were in the car and witnessed it. Chrysler did the diagnostics and said there is no defect. I would Never attempt to drive the car again and if I traded it in then an unsuspecting person could be hurt or killed in it.

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Since [XXX], my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee has experienced multiple ongoing electrical issues. Initially, my car wouldn't start in the morning so I called Chrysler's roadside assistance and had the car jump started, then brought it to the dealership as a precaution to get it checked out. The dealership determined that the main battery had issues and so they replaced it with a new main battery. However, my car wouldn't start again the following day, and so I had the car towed, as per the dealership's request, then brought to the dealership for further inspection. The module that the technician installed did not fix the problem, and instead he determined that there were further electrical issues with my car. The technician has checked and tested all components related to the charging system, battery, alternator, starter, all relays, fuses, and wiring in the TIPM. The technician said the problem was sourcing from something slowly draining the power while the vehicle is off. And rather than "staying asleep," something would intermittently wake up the car, but only for about a second or two, then everything would go back to normal. According to my service advisor, if this was a constant remaining draw, the technician would have had it diagnosed a long time ago, but the fact that it is intermittent, along with the fact that there are a lot of electrical components in the vehicle, it's posing as an even bigger challenge. This led to opening a Star Case, which gets the engineers involved to assist with the diagnostic procedure. Since then, they had replaced the PDC and relay to my car. The technician replaced the body control module but the issue was still not fixed. Then, the manufacturer sent their service engineer (TA) to further evaluate the problem. This TA advised to replace another PDC module, but again, the issue was still not fixed. My car has now been at the dealership for 85 days and they have failed to resolve the electrical draining issue. May 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The radio, which included hands free calling, has been having issues of locking up, connecting calls but the caller not being able to hear the person in the vehicle. In order to correct the issue it requires the driver to reset the radio. This involved multiple choices on the interface to get to the radio reset option. This causes a major safety concern if done while driving. I have taken the vehicle to the service department at the dealer 4 times and been provided a Star Online Publication (S238A000026 Rev. A) dated October 2023 which states "Intermittent radio concerns will be corrected in the 4th Quarter radio software enhancement, updates over the air." I is now the 2nd quarter of 2024 and the issues have not been corrected and this Star Online Publication has not been updated.
