| Nov 2023 | ENGINE | Engine oil cooler lines began leaking oil at 800 miles. Oil leak appears to be at engine connection for line. Took to dealer where vehicle was purchased. They added dye to engine oil and clean up evidence of leaks. Told me to drive for 300 miles and call if it leaked again. It leaked again and dealer is non responsive to request for repair. Will try another dealer. Leak is significant. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Windshield wipers have stopped/paused during operation on two occasions midway through clearing rain from the windshield while driving down the road during rain events. Each time this has happened, the wipers have paused for approximately 2 seconds and then continued working without adjusting the controls. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. If the wipers had not started working again, I could have lost the ability to see while driving on the roadway. This could have put me and family at risk of crashing, as well as other motorists on the roadway. The problem has not been evaluated at the dealership yet. There has been no lights, lamps or warnings this was going to occur either time it has happened. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | 2023 Silverado 1500 3.0 Duramax. Transmission failure and engine overheating at 5k miles. I was towing a trailer when the 1st transmission failure occurred. The engine shut off, and said shift to N to start while coasting with loss of power braking. I was able to get started but transmission would slip when shifting above 1st gear. I had to tow to the nearest level point to safely park the vehicle, for fear of rolling backwards down 8% grade. At that point the computer was showing engine overheat loss of power warnings. GM roadside assistance towed to nearest dealer, refilled transmission with fluid, and put me back on the road for it to fail again in traffic (loss of power / unable to move). I have now been without vehicle going on 30 days and worry there is more wrong with the vehicle than just a blown transmission (latest GM diagnosis with no repair eta). For a few hours prior to failure I noticed what seemed like the transmission hunting for gears at lower speeds (0-25) with hesitation. Could have been slipping. And also noticed strange / louder than usual turbo noises. I worry the system is generating too much pressure or has mixed oil with coolant somewhere, based on finding atf, coolant, and engine oil near the overflow and all over the bottom of the vehicle. GM support has been atrocious and someone should step in. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The audio from the stereo will cut out for all services, FM, Sirius XM, Apple CarPlay , phone. It’s happened twice within two weeks. Once I reset the stereo in safe mode., it works again. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Front left turn signal doesn't work all the time | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | STEERING,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Vehicle sways/wobbles on grooved pavement. Magnified immensely when towing a trailer. Threatens to pull you into other driving lanes. Service technician and service manager at dealership state it is a known condition with the type of tires Chevrolet has put on the vehicle and that Chevrolet is refusing to do anything about it. Multiple dates and is repeatable. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | VISIBILITY | The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the rear passenger’s side window suddenly shattered. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who had not yet determined the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The automatic emergency breaking never worked. I took it to the dealership and they told me the computer didn't show anything wrong. I could tell the safety features weren't behaving properly though. While I was driving the breaks completely failed. Luckily I controlled the vehicle to a stop. Every light on the dash was on. I turned the of and restarted it. When I did the break peddle pumped repeatedly on its own hard back at me and made an awful noise. The check engine light came on and stayed on. From that point I tried to get to a safe location to call a tow truck to take the truck back to the dealership. While I drove I managed to get some video of the detection system as I closed distance to the vehicle ahead it saying the gap was widening and the car right in front of me would disappear. Then as the vehicle would pull away, the sensors would say the gap was closing. My safety and others was absolutely put at risk. If anyone would have been ahead of me when the breaks failed it would have been a deadly colission. After I told the dealership there was an issue and they told me I was wrong, then this happened, they have confirmed there is a problem and have had the truck for over a week trying to repair it. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance reps. There was no warning lamps prior to the failure. The only symptom was that the safety features that were stated to be on the vehicle never worked. The truck was specifically marked to have automatic breaking, safety assist, front pedestrian breaking, following distance indicator, and forward colission alert that never worked on a brand new vehicle that never worked from the day I purchased the vehicle. I did report it by calling and even bringing the truck in to be looked at and I was told there was "no issue" by the dealership. Then the break failure took place. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | GM Infotainment system repeated intermittent malfunctions. Safety concern: Repeatedly (~20%) while driving, the audio from the car radio will spike to full volume for about 5 seconds, then the infotainment system will reboot. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE as it is startling to the driver, nearly resulting in multiple crashes. This is an issue reported by multiple owners, as evidenced by a simple Google search of '2023 silverado volume spike'. GM has refused to acknowledge this and has not issued a fix. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | We purchased a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado High County on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Reed Chevrolet in St. Joseph, MO. On August 19, 2023, the infotainment system failed on the vehicle. It was returned to the dealership for repair. In coordination with General Motors, the dealership could not fix the issue. They said a new infotainment system was required, but they did not have a strategy or solution to our problem. They indicated this was a supply issue, and they could not get an infotainment system as it was back-ordered. On September 11, 2023, the dealership had to trade us vehicles as they could not provide a time frame for repair. We had to give up the 3.0 straight 6 Duramax diesel we wanted and go with a gasoline version. In communication with GM, they were aware of this problem, based on the careful wording of their responses and the 2021-2023 model year Silverado pickups. I researched these model ears and found this was a common problem among many Silverado owners. GM is also well-known for this issue infotainment issue and has settled a previous class action lawsuit for different model years. GM needs to be held accountable for this issue. I look forward to your response. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | We purchased a new 2023 Chevy Silverado in approximately January 2023. The onset of the problems with the new truck was Friday, August 4, 2023. The engine light came on, skipping occurred when accelerating - powertrain issues. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and was jerking when shifting between the first and second gear. No warning lights were illuminated. Then after arriving home, the truck cut off and I attempted to re-start the car without success. Waited for some time to start the truck, but it would not start. Attempted to start again after several hours. Did not start until the next morning and was able to drive the vehicle to the Chevy dealership service department, The service department kept the vehicle from August 4, 2023, to August 10, 2023. We were not provided with another vehicle, while they worked on mine. The second time occurred 10 days after picking the vehicle up from the service department. Monday, August 21, 2023, to PRESENT. Same issues with the truck continued. This issue has caused a major inconvenience. Not only are we still making payments on the vehicle. We have not been given a date of when the vehicle issue will be resolved. The parts needed are on back order. The truck has been in the dealership service department for 22 days as of 09/05/23. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I was driving Eastbound on highway 150 on my way to work. I have adaptive cruise control in my truck and have used it many times before on this exact road with no issues. Traffic was moving slow and the adaptive cruise control was following the car in front of me exactly how it is designed to do (ACC can be turned on at speeds as low as 5 mph in this vehicle and can come to a complete stop and restart movement from a complete stop). I drove through a section of this road right after the lake crossing where the morning sun was pretty bright directly facing us for a few seconds. During this time my foot was off of the accelerator and brake as instructed by the vehicle manual for safe operation of the ACC system. In these few seconds the truck unexpectedly accelerated aggressively with no warning and before I had a chance to react the truck rear ended another vehicle, pushing it into the car in front of them as well. I have been found liable so far by insurance. I am trying to argue on my behalf. I firmly believe I am not personally liable for this accident. The system in the truck is supposed to fail safe (meaning when meeting uncertain variables, such as low camera visibility, the vehicle should disengage the ACC instead of aggressively accelerating with no information of what is in front of it) and it did not in this circumstance. As stated, I had no input to the accelerator or the brake at the time of the accident according to the owners manual safe operation of this system. The vehicle FAILED to disengage the ACC system as it was supposed to and caused an accident I had NO TIME to react to by aggressively accelerating without any warning. The vehicle has been appraised for repair by the insurance company and was found to have $7000 in damages. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Rear view camera has moisture that builds up within the lens and makes it difficult to see what is behind when reversing. I've read online about many others complaining of similar issues from different source websites. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Vehicle experiences unexpected sudden acceleration, usually at low speeds. Engaging the brake will stop it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH and towing a 4,000-pound travel trailer, the contact noticed that the turn signal warning was illuminated and indicated that the left turn signal was not functioning as needed. The contact drove the vehicle to a small auto parts dealer to purchase a new signal bulb. The contact was changing the turn signal bulb and smelled a burning plastic odor and noticed that the wiring harness connected the trailer to the harness on the trailer hitch appeared to have melted. The contact stated that the connector had melted. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the trailer hitch connector and wires underneath the vehicle had melted also. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer has been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. The contact stated GM is refusing to fix the problem under warranty. | Crash: No Fire: No | 2,000 |
| Jun 2023 | STRUCTURE | This vehicle is equipped with remote tail gate release which can be activated without the knowledge of the driver allowing items to fall from vehicle and promote a dangerous outcome. An example is this morning the tailgate released after I stopped at a gas station and I had a piece of equipment fall from the vehicle. Thankfully no other vehicle was struck but this does pose a safety risk | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The backup camera intermittently turns off in low light, thus rendering it ineffective at night. It's been identified with NHTSA ID Number: 10234211. However, there is no fix. I feel this is a safety issue as the camera does not work correctly in low light. It has been this way for approximately 6 months, since I purchased the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | ENGINE | The PCV system plugs up in below zero weather casing the main rear engine seal to blow and leak. Currently waiting for gmc to manufacture the seal as it’s been back ordered due to so many engines needing this part. Estimate is 2 months or more wait. A loud ‘pop’ was heard the day before leaking. It sounded like an object hit under the truck. Oil drops were found the next day and dealership found the leak. Gateway in Fargo, ND is the mechanic and GMC is paying for repairs. If we were to of driven for a prolonged time, the leak could have poured most of all of the oil out of the blown seal and ruined the engine. There were no warning signs. The oil pressure seemed unstable the immediate days afterwards before being looked at. It was going down and coming back up after warming. The oil began leaking faster and in larger amounts as weather warmed above freezing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | EQUIPMENT | The contact owns 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the radio volumes went from 0 to 100 spontaneously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 4,000 |
| Mar 2023 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and was jerking when shifting between the first and second gear. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module (TCM) needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving into his driveway, with the vehicle lunging forward. The vehicle was then taken to Murdock Chevrolet (2375 S 625 W, Woods Cross, UT 84010), where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired and had remained at the local dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000. The VIN was not available. The contact has refused to take the vehicle home until the dealer can provide them with a remedy and repair for the failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | 1,000 |
| Mar 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | DEF system has malfunctioned. It is not recognizing a full tank and proceeds to regulate how many miles you can go at a lower speed. The final speed drops to 5 mile an hour, not allowing you to go any faster. This is a brand new truck with less than 2,500 miles on it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Truck does not brake when any object enters the saftey brake zone leading driver to loose safe distance while driving. Dealer unable to fix. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES | Started truck and dash lit up like a Christmas tree service brakes trailer brake failure do not exceed 43 mph. Check engine light was on multiple other lights were on truck is currently at dealership and gm doesn’t have a fix for issue. Part that is needed is on National back order. Haven’t made first payment and truck is Already in the shop and is not safe to drive due to this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
