| Jun 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact waited before restarting the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart immediately, and several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the battery had failed. The battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle failed to start when the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the dealer four times; however, the failure became persistent, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,200. | Crash: No Fire: No | 55,200 |
| May 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE | I was driving to work when suddenly my car lost motor function and just stopped, despite me pushing the gas pedal. This has happened to me at least 4 times now since owning the car for less than two years. I have almost been rear-ended each time. This time, however, my car did not want to start back up again. It flashed the battery and oil light on my dash and proceeded to tell me to hit the brake and push button to start (even though it was running), so I turned the vehicle off and attempted to start it again like I have in the past when encountering this issue. When I went to re-start the car, it sputtered and wouldn't start until I waited and tried again. I am very concerned, as I have a dog that I have in the backseat and if I get rear-ended, I will sue if there are injuries. I want a call about this immediately, as it is often pushed aside and I am fed up. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Pulling out on a busy road making a left turn across traffic my hrv lost all ability to accelerate. I coast off the road put in park and turned off the ignition. I the restarted the vehicle and have not had the issue again, it's been a week. However I had this happen twice last year and took my vehicle back to jones honda to have them diagnose the issue. They can find no issue. When this happens I'm always making a left turn. No lights on the dashboard come on either. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE | Dash lighting up and draining Battery and not able to start Also alarm going off by itself draining battery | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | POWER TRAIN | I was driving in the [XXX] at 70 MPH when suddenly, and without warning, the car refused to accelerate. It was in effect switched to "neutral." I managed to guide the car to the very narrow shoulder of the turnpike. It was an incredibly dangerous situation. I was fortunate that there were no cars in the immediate area, otherwise I would have been hit. The car would not move in any gear. I took the car to the Honda dealership and they confirmed the transmission was shot. It will need to be replaced. The vehicle has 56,000. | Feb 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS | On [XXX] while driving on [XXX] , the driver’s airbag in my 2022 Honda HR-V suddenly deployed without any impact or collision. This created a major safety hazard, obstructing vision and forcing the driver to pull over immediately. The seat belt tensioner also engaged, restricting movement. There were no warning lights, no forward collision warnings, and no external factors that could have caused deployment. A diagnostic inspection at Larry Hopkins Honda (Sunnyvale, CA) confirmed that the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) recorded NO impact prior to deployment. This exact issue aligns with Honda’s Safety Recall 24-036 (Seat Weight Sensor Defect) for the 2020-2022 HR-V, yet my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall. Despite multiple attempts to escalate with Honda Corporate and the dealership, Honda has refused to acknowledge this as a defect or cover the repair. This is a critical safety failure that could have caused a serious accident or injury. I request NHTSA to investigate this issue, as other 2022 HR-Vs may also be at risk for random airbag deployment. | Feb 2025 | STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Two times I have been driving in busy areas and when I brought my car to a stop at red lights and it’s turned green, my car will no longer move, but stays running so then I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to gain motor function again. I have almost been rear-ended twice. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | After filling up the gas tank, the next morning when started the electric parking brake and check engine warning lights appeared with flashing red parking light on. Everything seemed to be working fine. The parking brake worked, and engine was fine. After internet research I narrowed it down to either a battery (3-years old), or a bad tank of gas, I checked the gas cap, ok. I hooked up my OBE engine monitor and it coded P2DE1, with its 5 potential issues. The internet has many complaints and issues about this dating back to 2016. People have replaced fuel injectors, O2 sensors, etc., costing a lot of money on unnecessary repairs. I replaced the battery, and all the dashboard lights went out. The OEM battery lasts about 3-years. Apparently, if the voltage drops below what is needed numerous warning lights come on. It is unsafe. Mandatory software upgrade for pcm U0155, or other safety recall to rectify? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | On Thursday last week, I went out to my car that I have parked in the garage the day before I had no issues with the vehicle drove it all day, but on Thursday, I left home to go out to make some errands hopped in my car and I tried to start it. First car wouldn’t turn on, so I thought maybe I should turn off headlights and interior lights. Then I waited a few minutes and thought maybe the cold temperatures was messing with the car. So I just walked away from the car and I got a battery slow drip thinking that the battery might be dead but battery said it had a full charge at 100% charge. So I tried my battery tester battery said battery was about 100% fully charged. So I waited until my friends got home so they could witness that I wasn’t crazy. The only thing the car did after trying to start again was make a clicking sound for about three minutes then the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Every light came on every hazard that was built into the car was on saying that it needs a dealer to be checked or fixed so I called my local Honda dealership and they said that I should call roadside assistance because the car wouldn’t start. So before I could call roadside, I tried to jumpstart the car and nothing happened. So I went back in the house and about a two minutes later, the car crank and started itself, and it stayed on, but when I tried to turn it off, it told me that it could not be turned off due to some reason, I can’t remember from what it said on Thursday. So Thursday afternoon, I drove it up to our local Honda dealership and on the way up there the car shut off twice on the highway in motion which scared the mess out of me because I thought I was going to have an accident then about a mile from the dealership, the dashboard went black and so did the touchscreen, but then it came back on. But long story short local dealership said there’s nothing they can do to duplicate the issue in the car would not be fixed so I’m concerned that something else might happen | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | My car frequently accelerates or brakes on its own. It gives brake warnings when no one is near me and the brake or accelerator get stuck. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | All sensor warning lights came on the dashboard. Car would not move. Code showed no gas (tank was full). code for emergency brake (not engaged). Service department. of Honda dealer finally diagnosed fuel sensor getting stuck. Dealer said they would order part and replace it. They never ordered part and will not return our phone calls. They said they would talk to Honda to see if this model Honda was having this problem. No feedback. This situation has happened several times over the last 10 months. Usually happens when parked with engine running or moving very slowly. We turn off car for a few minutes. We are then able to move vehicle. Sensor lights eventually go off. We are afraid to go far from home because we never know when this will happen and if we can get it moving again. This car has about 31000 miles on it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | When driving on the highway at around 76 mph, the vehicle suddenly presents power loss and won't accelerate nor rev even if I step into the pedal all the way (No light in the dashboard). Going in the high speed lane, I had to stop in the shoulder lane and turn off the vehicle. After turning it on again, a couple of minutes later the problem was back. This would be the third time I have had the problem. Took it to Honda for a checkup and told them that no light came on in the dashboard, and also told them that the problem has been present when going over 70mph, and what they did is try to replicate the problem at 70mph. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Vehicle loses throttle response multiple times a day while traveling on the highway or roads where slowing/stopping isn't frequent. Vehicle will be traveling 50-80mph and will not accelerate even with the pedal on the floor. Vehicle will either maintain speed or start slowing down, occasionally it will rapidly slow down. I will have to fully release the accelerator pedal and lightly slam it all the way to the floor and then the vehicle will decide to respond. A few times while driving in moderate traffic (30-45mph) the throttle will lose all response and will not respond to any pedal input at all for about 5-8 seconds and then will all of a sudden start functioning as intended again. I assume the third issue the vehicle is having with acceleration is related to the first two as well, occasionally it will have very slow acceleration when trying to get up to speed to merge onto the highway. It will take about ¼-⅓ of a mile or about 45-60 seconds to reach 60-70mph. When this occurs I will have the pedal all the way to the floor from the beginning of a fairly long on ramp and by the end of the ramp I will be going no faster than 50mph maybe 55mph. I assume all of this is caused by the CVT transmission or possibly the ECU. I have contacted Honda regarding these issues and they stated that they are aware of these issues and that they are fairly common, and that they also believe that it is a transmission or computer issue, but there is nothing they can nor will do about it because Honda corperate requires them to diagnose every issue through the vehicles computer. So if the vehicle doesn't have a warning light or any DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) set in the computer they can't (or wont) do anything about it eventhough there is clearly an issue that is entirely able to be diagnosed without a DTC. 90% of the time a bad CVT will never set a DTC. I don't speak on all this because I THINK I know, I speak on this because KNOW I know as I am an ASE certified master technician | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | My HRV with 1800 miles suddenly stopped in an intersection only after owning the vehicle for 2 weeks. The Honda dealership tested the computer system, drove the car, and found no abnormalities. The dealership then asked that i pick up the car and drive it as they were unable to replicate the problem. If it were to happen again I was to let them know. I made it clear that I was not going to take the car back as I believed that the driving the car was posed a safety issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Windshield wipers suddenly just stopped working without warning while I was driving my 2022 Honda HRV (36,603 miles) during a rainfall. Thankfully I was not on the interstate and I was able to pull over into a parking lot. I took my car to the Napleton Honda Morton Grove Illinois where they inspected my vehicle. They said I need to replace the windshield wiper motor and linkage ($1100!). The car gave me NO warning messages leading up this this event. This could have been catastrophic to me and other drivers if I were in a heavy rainstorm on the interstate when this windshield wiper failure occurred. Please investigate to see if a recall is needed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The transmission is making a growling sound, also while driving at time when go to accelerate faster on freeway it stays where it's at even if you push pedal all the way down. Took to Honda dealer they acknowledge something is wrong with transmission but don't know what, so they want me to wait until a light comes on and to bring it back. I called Honda Corp but they were no help at all. Told them I was only 2500 miles from being out of warranty and if they could extend the warranty but was told no, but they would note about the problem. I am worried about my safety as they do acknowledge that there is a problem but dont know what and want me to continue driving it. I drive lots of miles everyday due to the type of work that I do. I was told not to worry because even if transmission fails while driving I always have my brakes still. Not much comfort in that responce. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | STEERING | Sticky Steering: Experienced a clunking sound from front drivers side steering the last two weeks. Last night while driving approximately 15mph the steering got stiff then overcorrected, veering off to the left into oncoming traffic. The car came to a rest after hitting a curb and the airbags deployed. Both injuries and damaged sustained. This is the second occurrence of the vehicle suddenly veering off to the left lane. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the "brake" warning light had intermittently flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake calipers were leaking fluid and the calipers were serviced. No further information was available. Later while pulling into a parking space and pressing the brake pedal, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle crashed into a metal fireman's latter. During the crash, the vehicle sustained severe front-end damage but no air bags deployed, the seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the driver. The driver sustained a fractured lumbar spine vertebrae and was transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer was notified of the crash. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | 5,000 |
| Nov 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Received the following message on the infotainment screen upon starting my car: "system lost power and is acquiring its location from the GPS satellites. This usually takes less than 10 minutes. * Start the engine. * Park the vehicle in an open area away from trees, power lines, and tall buildings. * Remove loose articles, mobile phones, or electrical accessories located near the GPS antenna. * If this screen is displayed repeatedly when starting the vehicle, see your dealer" Took the car back to the dealership, they ran some basic tests and said they couldn't replicate the issue and to bring it back if it happened again. When it happened again, I returned to a Honda dealership that told me that I would have to pay a diagnostic fee to determine what was wrong and that since the error wasn't happening at the time more than likely they wouldn't be able to find anything. I even had a recording of it happening on my phone when it did happen. I have had this happen at least 20-25 times since I purchased the car in April 2022. It renders the infotainment completely useless for any sort of navigation, reverse camera, or radio. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SERVICE BRAKES | Brakes failed, air bags didn't deploy, seat belt failed, collision mitigation system failed | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | 2022 HRV battery is draining while parked. I have had the new car for 2 years, low mileage with no problems until this past month October/November 2023 the battery has drained 3 times. Honda of Frankfort, KY replaced the battery (said it was defective). The car worked fine for a couple of weeks, then the battery drained again yesterday, November 13, 2023. I had it towed to Frankfort, Ky Neil Huffman Honda yesterday. I have had a tow company come to the car 3 times in the past month. The problem is probably not the battery, but something is draining the battery. Definitely a safety issue if car will not start when it is needed. No warning lights came on. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Use this vehicle as a daily commuter for work/school/other personal trips in good faith it would be a solid, reliable car. Had it since February 2022, brand new right off the lot no issues. One morning driving to work, the tire pressure, parking brake, and check engine light indicators all come on while I'm on the highway. I exit to an off ramp and pull into a parking lot to go through the different gears and everything seems okay, so I proceed to return to my commute. Start coming to a stop light at an intersection and the vehicle stalls completely as I decelerate. I go to start the vehicle again as I'm in an active lane of traffic and it won't start. Try starting it again and it starts but the parking brake is fully engaged (not by me setting it but the vehicle self-engaged it) and I can't move the vehicle as it won't dis-engage the parking brake when I hit the gas. I had to get it towed to the dealership and mechanics told me later it was a fuel canister failure, and it isn't uncommon for the sensor in that element to fail which certainly didn't inspire great comfort. I drive it 5 miles after they assured me it was taken care of and all the same indicators come back on. Return to the dealership and they re-assessed the issue is farther down near the tank. Been driving it since the second repair attempt and so far no issues. Very disappointed and hesitant about this model's safety and reliability especially hearing about the rear-differential investigation and others having it decelerate at highway speeds suddenly. As this is my first car, I had hoped this was the right choice and would be solid for years to come, but now I question whether I trust the HRV model and Honda in general. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | 100% system failure vehicle totalled personal injury I have all data retrieved and filed by expert | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Engine failed to start when turning the key in the ignition. Occurred three separate occasions within 30 days @ 18,000. Engine light and electronic steering system lights remained on. Vehicle started after waiting one hour. On the third occasion, the car was towed to the dealer, and a service advisor experienced the same issue. However, 30 minutes later, a mechanic was able to start the engine at every attempt. There were no warning lights, other than the lights remaining on the dashboard when attempting to turn the key. (I have video of the experience - please see photo). I am submitting this notice because on all 3 occasions, Honda dealer performed diagnostics, but could not find an issue that caused the failed start. I was reluctant to keep a car with a problem that statistically would reoccur in the future, or perhaps might experience an even worse electrical problem. The dealer "bought" the car back, and sold me a 2024 - same model. There were some additional costs and of course the interest rate was higher. I agreed to all of the conditions for the new purchase, and I believe the dealer did right by me with the purchase of the newer model. HOWEVER, 3 days after I purchased the 2024 HR-V, the dealer put the 2022 HR-V on the lot and is attempting to resell it. I find this wrong and possibly a risk to the new owner. I have every reason to believe the issue for the faulty electrical system was not discovered over the short time (3 days) from when I turned in the car, and when I saw it on the lot for resell. Other than the electrical issue, the vehicle was very reliable and I took very good care with it. If not for anticipating the problem would reoccur when I was driving or wouldn't start in an emergency, or perhaps reoccur after the warranty expired, I traded it in to the dealer and purchased a new 2024 model. Thank you. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | The braking system did not work when pushed. It is not available for inspection as it is in a totaled state. My safety was at risk as it sped into a building. It has not been attempted to be reproduced. Vehicle was inspected by police. To be inspected by insurance. There were no warning lamps of any sort. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
