Aug 2023 VISIBILITY The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, he became aware that the display for the rear view camera only displayed the top half of the image. Potentially compromising rear-view visibility. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rearview camera programming, but a remedy was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES While driving the truck, something electrical seems to "reset" and upon that occurring, the brakes and other things quit working. This has happened in this truck twice within the last 10,000 miles. The dealership "resets the electrical system" and the truck runs fine for a period of time, but it has happened twice that the brakes have failed while going down the road.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES The vehicle starter began malfunctioning, upon having that repaired by the dealership the brakes on the truck failed while underway. The dealership subsequently replaced the fuse panel and said it was resolved, that was in November 2022. The starter again began having problems engaging yesterday.

Jul 2023 BACK OVER PREVENTION I bought the truck in April of 2023, a few days after I purchased it I was backing up and the review camera turned off and received an error. I went to the dealer and was told it was caused my my tow hitch. Which makes no sense since they have an option to towing. I've looked on forums online where several other owners have the same issue with the same year truck.

Jul 2023 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The truck randomly got a check engine light. I had to drive over 150 miles home and the whole time the dash said DEF empty and a countdown to reduced power. DEF was filled prior to trip. Took to dealer and was told the DEF tank needed to be replaced due to bad sensor or module. No parts available for repair so I am without a truck until GM decides to produce parts. The consumer stated that the vehicle is still at the dealer and the DEF module has been replaced 3 times. No remedy has been provided from the manufacturer so far.

Jul 2023 STRUCTURE There is a small front body part known as the "moustaches" next to the headlights on either side of the vehicle. We have had this vehicle for less than 2 years and both the driver's side and passenger side "moustaches" have come loose on this truck and flown off while driving at highway speeds. Prior to flying off they get caught up on the tires and could cause a catastrophic blow-out of the steering tires. There is also the hazard of the body part flying off into traffic and causing damage or injuries to other drivers or pedestrians. This appears to be an engineering error and they have corrected it on later models by replacing the two small pieces with one wraparound piece. I believe this is an unsafe condition specific to this model year and should be considered for a possible safety recall.

Jul 2023 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. Upon inspection of vehicle, the contact discovered an abnormal design of the vehicle's exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe had been smashed in and the pipe appeared to be closed shut. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed him that it may have been designed that way to ensure safe ground clearance while driving the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, they had become nauseous and had temporarily lost consciousness. The contact pulled off the highway and went for a walk to regain composure; the contact did not seek medical attention. The contact believed that the design of the exhaust pipe had caused those symptoms to occur. The contact spoke with the dealer and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

Jul 2023 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM When vehicle becomes disabled due to an an electrical or mechanical issue there is no way to put the transmission into neutral. Due to the vehicle having an electric shift mechanism, when there is an electrical issue with the vehicle it can’t be shifted into neutral to push or tow the vehicle. For some unknown reason, GM did not provide an emergency transmission shift override system. My previous vehicle, a 2014 Ram had an emergency shift override mechanism for emergency situations. With GM’s lack of an override system if the vehicle develops an issue while driving once it comes to a stop it shifts its self into park leaving no way to move the vehicle safely off the roadway without a tow truck using skates/dollies on the rear wheels. I personally experienced this yesterday while driving in San Antonio, Texas traffic. My vehicle died while going 70 mph. Thankfully I was able to coast off to the shoulder. When the vehicle came to a stop it would no longer shift into neutral. I have read others having similar experiences only not being fortunate enough to get off the roadway. GM needs to provide a way to override the electronic shift mechanism so there vehicles can be moved when issues arise. It’s only a matter of time before an electrical issue renders a vehicle unmovable in traffic causing injury or death to the traveling public.

Jun 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I was driving on Pa Turnpike around Denver, PA, at about 75 MPH, I saw in my review mirror, what I first though was dust or smoke blowing around my truck bed. I slowed down 10-15 MPH, a small flame was visible through the rear window, between cab and bed. I immediately pulled over, put in park , turned on flashers, grabbed my phone and wallet, got out of the vehicle. opened the rear door grabbed one bag and saw flames over the cab. Flames were visibly getting larger between cab and and bed, flames were also exiting under bed and driver side rear wheel well. I walked up the turnpike about 100 feet and called 911. The truck became fully engulfed while on phone with 911. Picture labeled first picture was after 911 call, and about 5-min after stopping vehicle. Fire Company showed up 15-min. later but vehicle was already gone. Allstate Ins. has possession of truck. Truck had 25K miles and was purchased new January 2022. The truck has been maintained per manufactures specifications by Faulkner Chevrolet in Lancaster, PA. The truck had no damage ever, was never off-road, and there were no environmental issues to cause the fire. Only modifications to vehicle was a professionally sprayed in bed liner.

May 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES When pulling a travel trailer with electric trailer brakes, the trucks trailer brake control switch disengages. While pulling our new travel trailer home from the dealership I tested the trailer brakes prior to leaving the camper dealers lot and the trailer brakes work with both the manual switch and the trucks brake pedal. But while traveling down the highway and braking with the foot pedal the truck emitted an audible alert tone but by the time that I looked at the dash the visual message had already disappeared. While traveling this happened a few more times before I was finally able to read the alert notification on the dash in time to read the there was a trailer brake fault and the electronic trailer brake controller had been disabled. The trailer I was pulling was well within the trucks TWR rated capacity, but yet heavier than the truck. Luckily I finally figured out what was going on and did not need to brake hard and was able to get my trailer to our nearby destination. Had I have been aware that there could be a trailer brake controller problem I would have never made this trip with my truck and trailer and risked incident. At no point in my truck purchasing process or during ownership have I ever been notified that my truck could have trailer braking problems. Had there been a situation where I needed to stop fast it could have resulted in catastrophy. Chevrolet needs to inform owners of this potential safety issue immediately. After the fact, I came across multiple articles stating that GM has issued a service bulletin for the problem, but apparently will only be addressed at the time of customer complaint. I did call the dealership where I purchased my truck and was informed at that time of the service bulletin. My truck has since been to the repair shop to have the trailer brake control switch replaced and trailer brakes are currently functioning properly.
