Nov 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE I HAVE A FLEX TAIL GATE WHICH IS ALL ELECTRONIC. THE TAILGATE WILL NOT STAY UP , IT KEEPS ON FALLING AND UNLOCKING FOR NO REASON. THE TAILGATE FELL IN MY GARAGE AND I DID NOT KNOW IT WHEN I PUT THE DOOR UP IT SCRATCHED MY TAIL GATE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE THIS ISSUE AND MY TAILGATE FELL AND I HAD ALL MY WORK SUPPLIES IN THE BACK. SOMEBODY HONKED THE HORN AND TOLD ME. IF THEY DIDN'T THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT WITH ALL MY SUPPLIES FALLING OUT OF THE BACK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.. I HAVE READ ABOUT IT ON THE CHEVY WEBSITE AND THEY SAID THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SWITCH ON THE CHEVY FLEX GATE FROM 2019-2022. THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR 2023.

Nov 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL While driving the vehicle it will slow automatically as if there is something in front of the vehicle when there is nothing there. It has happened twice on the highway at highway speeds causing driver to take action. While driving the vehicle, the emergency brake automatically set itself while in drive. Electrical accessory issue with radio; cutting out and losing signal, unable to control volume of radio when driving or parked as radio gets extremely loud and cannot be turned down or off.

The service traction control warning displayed and vehicle traction control system began malfunctioning and tires began locking up. Break system failure message displayed, vehicle lost power to functional breaking capability. Trailer breaks disabled warding displayed, service required. Service ECS message displayed. Control of vehicle was lost, was able to naturally decrease speed and no accidents occurred. During this time, all control of breaking system was lost and steering function was lost. There was minimal traffic and I was able to turn my hazards on. Vehicle came to a complete stop in the right lane of the highway which could have cause a fatal crash. Intermittent steering functionality resumed after vehicle stopped allowing my to drive 5 mph to the exit ramp to move to safety. During this time, break system was not operational and potentially could have continued to cause an accident.

Nov 2023 SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I was driving at about 40 mph and went to brake and the brake pedal went to the floor with multiple lights appearing on the dash including a warning "brake system failure max speed 43 mph" as well as "service ESC". The brake light went on as well as the ABS light and the check engine light. Brakes were not fully functional and were like old manual brakes that you had to press hard on to slow down. I was fearful getting back to the house. Multiple warnings appeared on my Chevy app. Today I started to move in the driveway to clean up as I am taking to dealer tomorrow. All lights are off and the brakes now appear to work. The warnings are off of the app now (curious as to why for such a potentially lethal event) I have screenshots of the dash warnings but neglected to get a screenshot in the app. My fear is that the dealer will blow this off and the app shows all is good only to leave me drive this for them go out again. This is a signifivant safety issue for Chevy (and for my family)

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The volume to the vehicles infotainment system was unexpectedly set by the system to the highest setting without my input while listening to XM radio. My attempts to lower the volume via the volume control knob and steering wheel volume adjustment would lower the volume slightly but the rate the system increased the volume was faster than I could lower it. My safety was put at risk because initially the loud volume shocked me and caused me to panic trying to lower the volume so I can hear my surroundings while attempting to drive in city traffic. My safety was also at risk because my watch alerted me to a volume level that causes permanent damage to my hearing. I have not reported this to the dealer or independent service yet. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no other warning messages or symptoms to the problem prior to the failure. Today was the first incident.

Sep 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,BACK OVER PREVENTION Vehicle engine blew up stopped running. I was driving up Highway 17 leaving Santa Cruz heading towards Sacramento when Engine failed was able to pull off the side of the freeway without being sideswiped had to have CHP come and shut down the number one lane in order to get vehicle towed. Was pulling a travel trailer. Vehicle and trailer were towed to the closest hotel in Scotts Valley the following day truck was towed to Watsonville Chevrolet where they tore the engine apart and found the catastrophic failure of the engine, vehicle was inspected by Watsonville Chevrolet mechanic. There were no warning mites before engine stopped working no warning and was very fortunate by God's graces to get off the side of the highway before being sideswiped or rear-ended. The repair took 47 days to fix two days after I got the vehicle back the battery was dead because certain electrical components like battery and stereo were not reconnected therefore caused a drain and would not start. Had to call GM again to have the vehicle towed to Folsom Chevrolet California where they kept the vehicle for 9 days to fix the problem which was electrical.

Sep 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER The audio in the truck increased to maximum volume on its own- without user/driver input. The only way to reset the radio is to pull over, shut off the truck, and open the door. This is extremely hazardous and distracting while operating the vehicle. It is an urgent safety concern for the driver and all passengers, as well as other vehicles.

Aug 2023 VISIBILITY The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to reverse, he became aware that the display for the rear view camera only displayed the top half of the image. Potentially compromising rear-view visibility. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the rearview camera programming, but a remedy was not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES While driving the truck, something electrical seems to "reset" and upon that occurring, the brakes and other things quit working. This has happened in this truck twice within the last 10,000 miles. The dealership "resets the electrical system" and the truck runs fine for a period of time, but it has happened twice that the brakes have failed while going down the road.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES The vehicle starter began malfunctioning, upon having that repaired by the dealership the brakes on the truck failed while underway. The dealership subsequently replaced the fuse panel and said it was resolved, that was in November 2022. The starter again began having problems engaging yesterday.

Jul 2023 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The truck randomly got a check engine light. I had to drive over 150 miles home and the whole time the dash said DEF empty and a countdown to reduced power. DEF was filled prior to trip. Took to dealer and was told the DEF tank needed to be replaced due to bad sensor or module. No parts available for repair so I am without a truck until GM decides to produce parts. The consumer stated that the vehicle is still at the dealer and the DEF module has been replaced 3 times. No remedy has been provided from the manufacturer so far.

Jul 2023 BACK OVER PREVENTION I bought the truck in April of 2023, a few days after I purchased it I was backing up and the review camera turned off and received an error. I went to the dealer and was told it was caused my my tow hitch. Which makes no sense since they have an option to towing. I've looked on forums online where several other owners have the same issue with the same year truck.

Jul 2023 STRUCTURE There is a small front body part known as the "moustaches" next to the headlights on either side of the vehicle. We have had this vehicle for less than 2 years and both the driver's side and passenger side "moustaches" have come loose on this truck and flown off while driving at highway speeds. Prior to flying off they get caught up on the tires and could cause a catastrophic blow-out of the steering tires. There is also the hazard of the body part flying off into traffic and causing damage or injuries to other drivers or pedestrians. This appears to be an engineering error and they have corrected it on later models by replacing the two small pieces with one wraparound piece. I believe this is an unsafe condition specific to this model year and should be considered for a possible safety recall.

Jul 2023 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado. Upon inspection of vehicle, the contact discovered an abnormal design of the vehicle's exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe had been smashed in and the pipe appeared to be closed shut. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed him that it may have been designed that way to ensure safe ground clearance while driving the vehicle. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, they had become nauseous and had temporarily lost consciousness. The contact pulled off the highway and went for a walk to regain composure; the contact did not seek medical attention. The contact believed that the design of the exhaust pipe had caused those symptoms to occur. The contact spoke with the dealer and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

Jul 2023 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM When vehicle becomes disabled due to an an electrical or mechanical issue there is no way to put the transmission into neutral. Due to the vehicle having an electric shift mechanism, when there is an electrical issue with the vehicle it can’t be shifted into neutral to push or tow the vehicle. For some unknown reason, GM did not provide an emergency transmission shift override system. My previous vehicle, a 2014 Ram had an emergency shift override mechanism for emergency situations. With GM’s lack of an override system if the vehicle develops an issue while driving once it comes to a stop it shifts its self into park leaving no way to move the vehicle safely off the roadway without a tow truck using skates/dollies on the rear wheels. I personally experienced this yesterday while driving in San Antonio, Texas traffic. My vehicle died while going 70 mph. Thankfully I was able to coast off to the shoulder. When the vehicle came to a stop it would no longer shift into neutral. I have read others having similar experiences only not being fortunate enough to get off the roadway. GM needs to provide a way to override the electronic shift mechanism so there vehicles can be moved when issues arise. It’s only a matter of time before an electrical issue renders a vehicle unmovable in traffic causing injury or death to the traveling public.

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to remove the electrical component with his left foot to depress the brake pedal. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
