Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I have an id.4 (VIN: [XXX] ) which has recall issues. I've been trying to get this rectified but have been told there is no resolution for the past 6+ months. yesterday both my speedometer and main (entertainment) screen went blank. I called the dealer and was told they do not know what the issue is, but the vehicle is safe to drive since it "works". I do not know what the speed is, and I get warnings that none of the sensors work (front, airbag, speed control, etc...). I contacted VW corporate and was told this is a dealer problem. I keep getting put in between the corporate office and dealer with no resolution, yet I paid 50k for car that isn't safe for my family (I have a 5 year old). What am I supposed to do? Also VW dealership said they can take the car in, hold it for months with no resolution, but will not provide a car. I am out of car and hope that you all can help me. This is just not right. Oct 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I was slowly driving down a lane in a parking lot. The parking spaces were perpendicular to a wall. I start to turn the steering wheel and slowly tap my brakes since the car was already going at a slow speed. All of a sudden, the car lunges forward and crashes into the wall beyond the parking slot. The airbags blow up and, after impact, my mom who is in the passenger seat complaints about severe chest pain. Soon the ambulance is there to take my mom to the hospital (she is eventually diagnosed with two broken ribs and a fractured cervical bone). I stay at the scene to talk to the police about what happened (the police gathered information from bystanders and took many pictures). I am in shock about the incident and trying to figure out what happened. I research the topic on the Internet and find out that there are others who have complained about sudden and unexpected acceleration in this car model. In fact, there is a class action lawsuit which explains that the overly sensitive cruise control (haptic, touch sensitive control on the steering wheel) can be accidently triggered and cause the sudden acceleration. Thank you for looking into this safety problem.

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES The car was stuck in the garage; the electronic parking brake failed to disengage. I couldn't shift to the Drive mode. The vehicle had to be dragged out from the garage and is presently at the dealer. The dealer was able to reproduce and confirm the issue. Many errors popped up on the Dashboard when turning on the start button - Electrical System Not working correctly, Drive System Error, Auto Hold Error, TPMS Error. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure. The vehicle is a risk as it may not brake at high speed or fail to move after coming to a complete stop. The vehicle is at the dealer, and I have opened up a case with Volkswagen today and am awaiting to hear from them. Its UNKNOWN if the manufacturer had inspected the vehicle.

Sep 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM There is a warning that repeatedly comes on while driving: " Warnings and information not available. Drive with greater care!" While this warning light is on I am unable to see my speed, the time, and miles driven. The temperature gage turns to Celsius, the touchscreen works sporadically and the rear camera does not work at all. The only information that I have been given is to turn the car off and let it sit for 5 minutes. After doing that the warning will come on for about 15 min, turn off for a few minutes and then turn on again.

Sep 2023 STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE I have had two episodes in which the Lane Keeping Assistance put me at risk of running into a barrier on the freeway. Both happened when traveling in a middle freeway lane that split to an off-ramp (three lanes splitting to two groups of two lanes). In the first, I was taking the left ramp. The car, I think wanting to keep the lane line on my right close, suddenly steered me back to the right and toward the dividing barrier. I was able to overcome it and stay on my planned route but it was close. In the second, there was a car to my right in the right-most lane. I was taking the right exit and used my turn signal to indicate this. As I started to take the exit, turning the wheel to the right, the car forced the wheel back to straight because it thought I was trying to steer into the car to my right (in the next lane, also exiting), and again steered me toward the barrier splitting the ramp from the freeway. I was able to overcome the wheel, but again it was close. In both cases, I think the car is doing what it is designed to do (i.e. nothing is broken) but the design is dangerous. I have talked to the dealer about this problem - they have acknowledged the issue and said a new car would not have this problem. No warning lamps or messages appeared.

Sep 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM I am writing because VW has been unable to fix the recalls associated with my car. The earliest they say they can fix the major recall associated with the car battery is December 2024. This is unacceptable and I hoping the NHTSA can put pressure on VW to fix this problem.

My local dealer, FLOW vw of Asheville NC cannot perform the work as they do not have a certified technician. The closest tech I can find is in Bristol TN. VW will only tow my car to the closest dealer, FLOW in Asheville. Should VW be responsible to get my car to a dealer that can perform this work? How can we make this happen? Sep 2023 SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE While traveling at highway speeds I suddenly got multiple warnings of the parking brake becoming inoperative, Auto Hold Error, and Travel Assist and Cruise Control no longer available. When trying to park the vehicle's parking brake would not engage and a loud warning sound and red warning message with "Do not park vehicle on an incline" came up on the dash. The vehicle was not able to be parked on any surface without it potentially rolling away. When trying to take the car into the dealership on Monday, 9/11/2023 the vehicle would not move out of "Park" and had be dragged out of the garage it was parked in.

Sep 2023 SERVICE BRAKES This car was marketed as an easy transition from gasoline powered engines, meaning its braking maneuvers should not have been largely different. However the 2021 electric did not come with auto hold which VW later determined should be added for brake safety reasons. In 2022 VW had a software upgrade and as of Sept. 2023 it has yet to be installed for me. However any update was already too late for me. In Nov. 2021 this scenario happened: I pulled up to my garage and realized the car was not aligned with the garage door so (after braking and bringing the car to a full stop) I chose "R" to proceed with the slight correction. I did not touch the accelerator but the car careened backwards down driveway and impaled itself on a large landscape rock (which stopped the descent). I just missed hitting a telephone pole and/or landing crosswise in the street at the bottom of my driveway. The incline was not steep but the backward momentum was great. I could have been severely injured but luckily only the car sustained heavy damage!

Aug 2023 STEERING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL The steering wheel controls on our 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 are haptic. That means that if you brush them with your fingers or hand with light pressure, they can activate. When leaving a neighborhood street, I turned the steering wheel approximately 180 degrees to pull out from a parking spot next to the curb. Upon releasing my grip a bit on the steering wheel (to let it rotate back to 'straight') my right thumb grazed the cruise control activation button (which is normally on the left side of the steering wheel). Since I had been using cruise control earlier in the drive, the cruise control resumed and the car accelerated without my providing any pedal input. Luckily I realized what had happened and pushed the brake pedal to cancel cruise control. The cruise control was set to 15 mph. I am thankful it was not set to something higher, like 65 mph. I don't know how fast the car would have accelerated in that case.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER UNKNOWN All LCD screens would not display an image including the one that displays the speed at which the vehicle is traveling. The only difference from normal was the car sitting in the sun for a few hours and the back of the LCDs being hot to the touch. Was able to remedy by running the AC on Lo with the car empty for about 20 minutes. The car did not have a visible speedometer or anything else available on that screen. There bottom row of icons did display on start up and did not show any errors. However I would say that it is a fairly big issue not knowing the speed you are going. I have seen on a VW ID forum other people having had this issue. Vehicle has a service appointment August 31 for this issue. Not yet for replication or inspection. There was no warning to these issues. I just got in the car after work and the screens did not come on and I did try restarting them vehicle twice. Attached photo is of the car on where it shows no display. I also have a video I will show the dealer tomorrow.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM I have been trying to get access to this recall and Volkswagen is not helping. The local dealer did not have the capability but also would not arrange for it's shipment to the closest facility with the ability. It is electric and there are inadequate chargers to take it long distances for this recall, plus it would interfere with taking care of my work and family. The facility in Chattanooga I have contacted multiple times but they never call me back to schedule the fix. I made an online appointment several hours away in Nashville since weeks have gone by without word from Chattanooga, but doubt the car will be able to make it that far if there are ANY traffic issues getting there.

Aug 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The dealer has not informed me about an open recall stating that the car door handles can open at a certain speed. This recall was filed since 05/05/2023, but the necessary parts to address the problem are still unavailable. I became aware of this issue through an email from Progressive Insurance. Despite my car undergoing service for three other recalls at Deel Volkswagen in Coral Gables, Miami, FL (where I purchased the car), they never notified me about this problem. Even after three separate visits, each lasting three weeks, this issue was never addressed. I already escalated the matter to Volkswagen Corporation and the customer care department a month ago, but I'm still awaiting a response. The car is not functioning properly, and the doors frequently get stuck, making it extremely challenging to enter or exit the vehicle.

Aug 2023 WHEELS The front right tires at around 5k miles both have significant deterioration like I've never seen. It is not simply worn, but rather chunks of tread are missing from the tires. I am concerned that the tires will fail and cause an accident for myself and anyone else on the street. The dealership simply says this is how it is with Electric Vehicles. I am told not to worry about it and they will last, but I will attach some photos of the front tire as well as the rear, which is normal. Supposedly, this is not an alignment issue and is just an issue with EVs in general because of their weight? It is causing great concern for traveling on the freeway at high speeds.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM In April, 2023 I took my 2021 VW ID4 in for a recall service. At that time they discovered issues with the car’s high voltage battery. This has led to a continual vehicle warning that my electrical system is not functioning properly and needs service. I was also told that the estimated range of the car is undependable, making trips of any distance impossible. I have had two service repairs scheduled, both canceled. The dealer now tells me that whatever is necessary for the repair has been back ordered to December. This means that my car will not have been fully functioning for eight months.VW continues to build ID4s but cannot keep those already sold in good repair.

Aug 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER While driving my foot will regularly get lodged/wedged below a piece of plastic trim adjacent to the accelerator. This delays or sometimes prevents me from easily letting up on the accelerator. While it can be dislodged with a little effort it requires me to completely reorient my foot. This is especially noticeable during "one pedal driving" where your foot does not need to be moved to the brake to decelerate. It does cause a delay in deceleration if only momentarily but requires effort and is at the very least distracting. Or in the worst case scenario it could delay deceleration long enough to cause an incident. The plastic trim protrudes about 1/4". The trim sits over a "carpeted" liner. This liner has no solid backing and can be pushed in and away from the accelerator leaving an even larger "lip" to overcome. This may not happen with all drivers but certainly with drivers that have larger feet or hold their feet in certain positions. Normal "single pedal driving" requires only very small adjustments in foot position. I believe this should be looked into.
