| May 2024 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I drove an ID-4 down south and preparing for right turn. Suddenly, the car was accelerating to a very high speed with the accelerator not being pressed (spontaneous acceleration). I tried hard to press the brake, but no effectiveness. Instead of turning a 90-degree angle to the west direction, the car only turned 45 degrees toward southwest, hitting the safety island and jump over the island, then crossing the eastbound road, climbing up the curb and the left side of the car hit the street tree. The car then snaked along the sidewalk and grass toward west before it stopped. The car then is pulled to the body shop (Caliber in San Jose). 1) Accelerator and brake are both failed. The car spontaneously accelerates itself and cannot be stopped even pressing the brake paddle 2) In the collision, my left shoulder and neck got hurts. 3) Not yet. The car is in the body shop. 4) The car is in the body shop. Police has seen the car. 5) No. It happened suddenly. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | Unknown |
| May 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I got out of my car on Saturday, April 20th at a shopping mall 50 miles from my house. I parked and my screen told me that I had an over the air software update that I needed to install. I began installation of the update and parked and left my vehicle. I returned approximately 2 hours later and the car would not shift into drive. I had a yellow error message that said my cornering light was not functioning properly, but nothing referencing why my car wouldn't go into drive. I sat and tried to troubleshoot for another hour before calling roadside assistance. I was away from home, so they explained that they would only be able to tow it to a nearby dealership. It was after hours, nothing was open and it wouldn't be open until the following Monday. I paid almost 500 dollars to tow the vehicle to my house and then paid another 100 dollars through AAA to tow it to the dealership on Monday morning. Since then, my car has been at the service center and has not been repaired. They gave me a loaner but it's been almost 30 days and no resolution. I have been told that the issue was related to a known recall. I contacted VW to discuss a Towing reimbursement and was informed that VW would not be covering the expenses for either Tow event even though the first was completed under their Roadside assistance program. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2024 | TIRES,SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, there was an abnormal odor of smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was determined that the smoke and burning odor were coming from the rear passenger’s side wheel well. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer who stated that the rear passenger’s side drum brake was faulty. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact stated that earlier while driving the "low tire pressure" warning had been displayed. The failure mileage was 22,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 22,000 |
| Apr 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | No information displayed on main large monitor. No buttons response. Monitor over steering wheel does not display speed. Cannot safely drive the car without this information. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The contact owned a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that while driving on a highway at a moderate speed, traffic came to a sudden halt. The vehicle's forward avoidance collision feature was activated; however, the feature did not perform at full capacity and hesitated to fully stop. The contact repeatedly pumped the brake pedal; however, the vehicle independently accelerated and crashed into the vehicle ahead which resulted in a five-vehicle accident. An unknown red warning light appeared on the instrument panel during the failure. The air bags deployed upon impact. Upon air bag deployment, the contact sustained burns to the left thumb and chest; additionally, the contact experienced soreness to the cervical spine, neck, both knees and ankles. The driver of the vehicle which the contact directly hit also sustained a sore neck but neither driver sought medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was deemed a total loss. Before the accident, the contact stated that a software update was performed on the vehicle which changed the vehicle's driving performance. The contact also noted that while driving at 70 MPH after the software update was performed, the vehicle independently accelerated without depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact was not certain if any warning lights appeared on the instrument panel during the failure. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 2 Towed | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | These recalls are old: February 7, May 5, and August 25 of last year. My local dealership, Hansel Volkswagen, 2951 Corby Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95407 (1-707-578-1320), is unable to get the parts for these repairs from VW of America, even though WV of America is steadily building new cars. My 2021 ID4 is still not repaired. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Door won't unlock / open from inside. Got stuck a few times, had to turn off and on the car for doors to re-engaged electronically. Nothing in manual reflects manual emergency open doors. What happens in the event of power failure or dead battery? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Intermittent problem since purchasing the car in September 2021: if child safety lock is engaged when parking the car and the doors are otherwise unlocked, upon exiting the car, the rear doors will not open from the outside. Clicking unlock on the key FOB won't unlock the doors. I need to power the car on again and deactivate the lock from within the car. Earliest occurrence was in October 2021. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | For fuse function, location and value, the owners manual has incorrect information which is worse than no information at all. This creates a safety and fire hazard in cases where higher amperage fuses can be placed in lower amperage circuits. The fuse panel cover is also deficient with no information about fuse function, location or value. The implication is that in time of need, an operator is unable to locate and replace a fuse to make the vehicles safety and operating systems functional. Worse yet, if a fuse is replaced it can be the wrong value creating a fire hazard or compromising the vehicles wiring and safety systems. I have called VW corporate customer service twice and explained how my safety is being compromised. VW will not take action. No solution offered. No effort. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | STRUCTURE | In two years I haven’t been able to open my passenger side doors from the outside.. VW states it a recall item with no fix available. This is only a way to skirt the lemon laws. VW should be forced to fix these defective doors at once to take the car back,. I going to seek remedy in Federal Court if this isn’t addressed soon. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | 1. The brake pedal freezes intermittently when I step on the brake. 2. The sensor is faulty - it flashes red and warns me that the brake isn't working. 3. In autonomous driving mode, it did not detect the vehicle in front of me and didn't slow down. 4. After driving in the rain, the front brakes seized up. VW of Wellesley in MA said they fixed these issues, but I continue to experience 1 and 2. It hasn't rained so I couldn't test #4. My car was in the shop from [XXX] to [XXX] this last time. Previously, it was there twice for shorter time. #2 first happened when my car was new. I mentioned it to the sales guy and he said the sensor was probably blocked. It kept happened but when my car stopped detecting the car in front on the highway, I knew something was wrong. | Feb 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V040000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the back over prevention camera and the touch screen failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The contact was informed that the parts were unavailable. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | 42,000 |
| Feb 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The entire electrical panel went blank with no way to reset onsite. Had to drive to car without being able to see the speedometer or anything else. After getting to location and leaving the car for an hour, it reset itself. The car's Infotainment often goes out and can be rebooted by me. Used to think this part was normal but I don't think it is based on how often I have to do it. Car also has surged when driving, i.e. driving and it suddenly slows down then recovers back to normal speed. Finally, backup camera detects things that are not there and slams on breaks which is jarring to the car occupants. VW has tried unsuccessfully to repair and are "unable to replicate" the black out and the backup camera. The surge is new and not yet been looked at by them. However, I have very little faith they will be able to "replicate" that either since it has only happened twice. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Manufacturer and dealership in my area have been unable to schedule me for getting Safety Recall for High Voltage Battery Management Control Module Software (97ZZ) done to my vehicle. I have been in the waitlist for dealership to do this recall since May 2023. Several times the dealership has said that the battery modules are backordered with no ETA. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE | The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V040000 (Electrical System), and 23V312000 (Structure) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | STRUCTURE | There's an active recall for the doors on this car with guidance not to bring it in due to lack of parts to fix the vehicle. On 1/11/24 I was driving this car, on a major interstate, heard clicking noises, and the door decided to open on its on while the car was in motion. I was able to pull over and shut the door. On 1/12/24, the door decided to open on it's own again and make very loud clicking noises. At both times I was going around 15 miles an hour on major roads in my local area. Now, the door will not open from the exterior and still making major clicking noises. I was finally able to get it into the shop on 1/25/24 in which they did a diagnosis and confirmed the car needs a new door handle assembly but don't have a ETA on the parts for the assembly for this model vehicle. Keep in mind that the recall notice still says they will notify "affected vins" of when the parts will be available and this recall has been in effect since May 5th, 2023. I have no faith in them performing the repair on this unit and want to very much get a buyback rolling as this is a MAJOR safety concern. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | With the vehicle in 'B' mode, I started acceleration in a moderate fashion. After about 30 feet the car lost power. Pressing the accelerator further had no effect. Releasing the accelerator then pressing it immediately power was restored. The car has been to the dealer twice for this issue. Neither time could it be duplicated. It has happened five times in the past two months with the last incident almost resulting in an accident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | STRUCTURE | The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The command on the driver’s, passenger’s, and driver’s side rear door handles opened with the application. There were no warning lights illuminated. There was an abnormal clicking noise when the vehicle was driven at high speeds. The contact called the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the door handles needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being on backorder. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle could be repaired out-of-pocket and to then seek reimbursement. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V312000 (Structure). The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 70,000 |
| Jan 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | the driver door open by itself during driving. It happened 3 times. It is not possible to lock the car. I had called the dealer ship. On my first call the said i will be on the list. After 3 weeks i called again then they said they didn't have the parts to make the repairs. I have asked for the manager to call back and it never happened. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Upon slowing down to a stoplight/intersection and then accelerating (like you arrived at a red light that just changed to green) the vehicle does not accelerate or have power, even when accelerator if fully pressed for 5-10 seconds, then it suddenly starts working properly again. This occurs most often in ‘B’ drive mode, but has done in ‘D’, also with and without ‘auto hold’ function enabled. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V312000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | TIRES | The front tires have excessive wear with treads appear to be peeling. 235/50/20 Please note both front tires have this issue but is worse on passenger side. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My vehicle has had two door handle recalls, the second and more important one has been there for almost 4 months and there is still no fix available. Is there a time limit that the manufacturer has to provide a fix by? Thanks! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | Speedometer and all gauges blank, including backup cam and turn signals. Not referring to infotainment system (though that is also blank). It's totally ridiculous. Thanks for your help | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES | My door handles - specifically - the driver's front door - has a faulty/malfunctioning interior AND exterior handle, trapping me inside and/or outside my vehicle. Recall 57J5 performed and resulting repair 57J8 is necessary; however, a repair is not available. This condition trapped me inside my vehicle, which was recently confirmed by Island Volkswagen on Staten Island, NJ. I am not driving my vehicle due to this safety issue. Volkswagen has NOT issued a stop driving order, yet, but this condition is so serious that I am unable to drive/use my vehicle. For these reasons, I am making this complaint. I have called Volkswagen of America and initiated a complaint. I have been issued Case Number [XXX]. My main point of contact at VW of America is Eric W. at (800) 822-8987, extension 43389.
