Feb 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY The contact owns a 2020 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH, the contact heard a loud booming sound. The contact stopped to inspect the vehicle, and it was discovered that the driver's side rear glass window panel had exploded outward causing chards of glass to enter the vehicle. The contact stated that during failure the rear defroster was activated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the driver's side rear glass window panel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 30,000. The VIN was not available.

Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER My tailgate opened during a 20 mile drive, much of it on interstate, while I had golf club bags in travel cases in the pickup bed. One of the cases unknowingly fell out onto the road. Fortunately this road was near my home and low speed, 2 lane. Someone stopped and picked them up since they saw them in the road. I am uncertain if my son just didn't properly latch the tailgate or if it came open after being latched but my primary issue here is that there is no warning light in my truck to warn me if my tailgate is open. Had there been I would have pulled over to close and latch it.

Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM My RAM 1500 experienced some random electronic related issues (ie. warning lights showing when nothing was wrong and then going away). This was an annoyance, but would fix itself so I never reported it. Then I had similar issues and all of a sudden it kept dying on me and I had to jump the car. RAM came back telling me the back window had leaked and it destroyed the eTorque battery and RFhub. The estimate was absurd, so I started researching. Turns out that the back window leak is a we’ll know. common issue with RAM 1500s. So much so they extended the manufacture warranty on the back window and center mounted light. Unfortunately, my truck is not on that list. Beyond the cost of this repair, the safety issue occurs when RAM placed an eTorque LITHIUM BATTERY in the back seat directly under a window that has historically had issues with leaking. It is a common known fact that water and Lithium Batteries is not a good mix and could cause corrosion, short circuits, electrolyte leakage, and gas release. This can cause damage, overheating, fires, or explosions. This is the same seat that I have had my children in car seats. If the windows are known to have issues with leaking and RAM put a battery in a space that is directly under this window, would this not pose a significant risk?

Jan 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The rear window frame cracked causing water to leak slowly in and damage the trucks radio frequency hub. This crack is a known issue in 2019-2021 Ram 1500. There is a bulletin out somewhere about it. And what I’ve read is on an extended warranty called Backlite , which should be called window seal. I have seen this get covered and fixed because it is a known defect that the user did not cause. They covered the hub, which is required to start the truck and keep it running. That would be bad if it failed while driving. This crack needs to be covered. It won’t let me upload a picture of the crack, but I have one and how much they want to charge me to fix it. I was going to attach those.

Jan 2024 STRUCTURE Owner detected a foul odor inside vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Further investigation online revealed that Fiat-Chrysler issued Technical Service Bulletin [XXX]\"Water Leaks At Sliding Backlite\" dated April 22, 2021 and [XXX] Rev B \"Water Leak Rear Of cab Rear Seat or Headliner\" dated June 2021. Owner called a local dealership and requested information regarding any recall related to RAM 1500 cab leaks, and was told that they were none. Dealership failed to advise owner that a know problem exists for these vehicles. \n\nOwner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the 3rd brake light assembly resulting in failure of that safety component to operate correctly and cause a rearend collision. Further, owner believes that a safety issue exists with water leaking into the electrical system that operates the power sliding rear window resulting in a fire or electrical human contact electrical injury.\n\nThis issue has been confirmed by dealerships as they have attempted repairs for other owners. Additionally, Fiat-Chrysler's issuing Technical Service Bulletins for these problems indicates the manufacturer was aware of the issues.\n\nAt this time, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, dealership, police, or insurance representatives or others. However, owner will be initiating contact with one or all of these entities to confirm the problem.\n\nThere were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The vehicle was purchased new from a dealership in January of 2020 by owner. Symptoms were discovered by owner when a foul odor was noticed in the vehicle. Upon investigation water was found in the rear floorboard and water stains across the headliner above the power rear sliding window. Dec 2023 SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN,WHEELS While traveling down C470 Eastbound my truck experienced some type of mechanical failure. While on the corner above the bridge for Wadsworth Avenue I felt a sudden loss of control with the truck pulling to the right side of the highway. I immediately took action to pull the truck off the highway while also wrestling for control of the steering to keep the truck from running into the barrier and off the bridge. I was able to bring the truck to a stop just following the bridge (About 100ft). Upon inspection I found the right front tire had folded under itself. It seemed that the upper control arm on the vehicle snapped, pulling out the drive shaft in the process and damaging items like the steering linkage, brakes, tire, brakeline, etc. Dealership diagnosis was: Found right front upper ball joint separated causing excessive damage to the front end components. Only additional work that has been done to the truck was by MOPAR with their 2 inch lift kit, certified by Fiat Chrysler and Mopar for this specific truck. Kit number 77072424 SUSP KIT-LIFT. Dealership did inspection of vehicle 2 days prior to incident with no issues found. I was not able to attach pictures and PDFs to this form

Dec 2023 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Driving in moderate traffic, truck forward collision warning triggered and emergency braking engaged with no forward risk of collision. Traffic in front was accelerating, not decelerating and no risk of emergency collision existed. Incident did however nearly lead to collision from behind as brakes were slammed on fully to an emergency stop. Wife and I were both in the car and neither of us saw any reason whatsoever for the event to be triggered.

Dec 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER While trying to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle electrical system turned off the vehicle and turned back on. When turning back on, it flashed through a series of error messages. One time was while in stop and go traffic and I was able to coast onto the shoulder and restart the vehicle. A second incident was in the middle of a busy intersection. Having had this shut down before, I was able to quickly turn on my hazards and restart the truck to then clear the intersection safely. I have personally had Dodge look at the vehicle under my ownership (bought it used from a dealer). In speaking with the service advisor, he mentioned it had 13 error codes reported on the DTC from loss of communication with PCM. There were no warning signs prior to the two events I have experienced. I have scheduled to take it back to the dealership for examination. The first event I experienced was on 11/25/2023 with about 35,450 miles. The second event was on 12/15/23 with 36,100 miles. I am aware of the recall on this vehicle but the shortage of parts has not allowed Dodge to service it for the recall yet.

Dec 2023 STEERING Upon inspection the rack and pinion failed and needs replacing. At the time of the failure i was getting ready to make a left hand turn with traffic to my left and i had to forcibly turn the vehicle almost hitting the vehicle to my left. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and independent warranty inspector and determined the rack and pinion failed. There was a steering failure waring that appeared when the loss of power steering occurred.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V767000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and almost stalled. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was advised that the parts were not yet available. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Dec 2023 ENGINE The exhaust flange bolts are prematurely rusting and breaking on the Exhaust system. This is a truck that has less than 30,000 miles and less than 4 years old. This is a common problem but seems to me RAM is using sub par materials in there bolts and they are failing at an earlier than expected time. These parts should be good for at least 80,000 100,000 Miles. These parts should be covered and a recall should be issued for these bolts as they are failing and braking prematurely. Creating a safety hazard as if the exhaust flange bolts break the pipe would hit the ground and create a safety and or accident hazard.

Dec 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM On Thursday 16NOV2024 I noticed the rear sliding window on my 20' Ram had shattered on the drivers side section. The sticker on the back was damaged and appeared burnt. The weather that morning had been 35 degrees and partly cloudy. When I remote started the vehicle at 0700HRS, the rear defrost came on automatically. I drove about 10-15 minutes to work and parked. I returned to my vehicle approximately 10 minutes later and noticed a burning odor but thought it was due to a woodstove used nearby. Later in the day coworkers noticed the sticker was burned. I thought it may be intentional or due to the rear defrost system since the part that is wired and transitions to the heating grid is right under the sticker. We reviewed security footage from when I parked to when it was discovered and noone went near the vehicle. I suspected the defroster had an issue. I stopped at the dealer, my warranty was expired and I have glass coverage but I wanted to make them aware of the issue. The dealer glass rep took photos and said she'd never seen anything like it but would talk to engineers about it. The following day I received a call saying that she showed engineers the damage and was told that the system doesn't have enough voltage or heat to cause that damage and they wouldn't help. I wasn't looking for money, I have full glass/no deductible. I had the glass replaced the following Monday and asked them to save the parts I suspected of failing. I have photos of the part that appears to have failed and overheated causing the damage. I have a concern that worst case, if something had been behind the headrest up against it and the vehicle was in a structure that a fire could have occurred. I followed up with my photos and concerns but never heard back from the dealer. Noone has expressed an interest in seeing the failed part in question and I still have them in my posssesion.

Nov 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The bolts holding the muffler to the exhaust pipe sheered off. After speaking with multiple dealers it is a known problem using a smaller bolt in the new body model Ram 1500 DT. The smaller bolt can’t handle the heating/cooling and eventually snaps. But this generally occurs just outside of warranty time. With the undersized bolts used by the manufacturer this causes the exhaust pipe to hang freely and risks the potential to cause injury or death with parts falling. There are many cases like this at dealers across the country and more to come. This body model is just coming up on 3-4 years so more trucks are starting to come in with this issue.

The vehicle was taken to two local dealers. The first dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The second dealer informed the contact that the parts needed to complete the repair would not be available for a year and a half. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Nov 2023 VISIBILITY/WIPER The driver side sun visor hinge point is failing. Without warning either when I attempt to fold down the sun visor or sometimes just on it's own it has fallen down out of the roof from the hinge point on the left side that allows you to rotate it to the side window if necessary. If I didn't have my hand on it to immediately lift it back up and from blocking my vision of the road in front of me it could have caused a collision with another vehicle, pedestrian or other object. I can push it back up into the receiver hole in the roof but it remains loose with the potential to fall out again as it has on several occasions. It has not been inspected yet. There are no warning indicators for this problem.
