| Aug 2024 | STEERING | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was difficult to control, causing the vehicle to drift from side to side. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to drive in a straight line. Additionally, while driving at highway speeds and pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle was drifting to the left. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the steering gear box was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a Manufacturer Extended Coverage to address the failure. The failure mileage was 25. | Crash: No Fire: No | 25 |
| Aug 2024 | STRUCTURE | Multiple areas of my jeep are starting to rusting and corroding. Jeep knows there are issues and are doing nothing about it. Not only is it unsightly but rust also compromises the structural integrity of the body of the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | SEATS | Rear Seat Headrest does not stay locked/engaged in the upright position. This could lead to increased risk of head and neck injuries to rear passenger occupants in the event of impact from behind. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | I am the origional owner of this vehicle. The vehicle has approximately 67,000 miles on it. I own a Mopar premier extended warranty covering the vehicle for 7 years, or 100,000 miles, whatever comes first. My complaint, which I believe creates a severe safety hazard on a public roadway, is the inner front fender wheel lines have failed on three different occasions requiring replacement. When the liners fail, it leaves exposed the 4 individual brake lines from the master cylinder. Road debris, when the inner fender wheel well is missing, can easily strick the brake lines by road debris thrown from the front tire while driving leading to brake failure and loss of control which can result in injury up to and including death to the driver, occupants, or others. I have contacted corporate Jeep on two different occasions to ask for repairs, and they refused to correct the issue. Their position is the vehicle is beyond the 3 year, 36,000 mile initial warranty, and my extended warrenty will not cover the repair as this wheel well liner is considerd a "trim piece". I am looking to NHTSA for assistance as this failure is something that should be mandated for a safety recall, and the dealer has told me the design of the liner on the JL series is prone to failure. I have owned 4 other Jeep Rubicon's over the past 10-15 years, and this has not been an issue on my other vehicles prior to the redesign of current Jeep Wrangler JL series. I have filed a complaint with Jeep, and they refuse to escallate my issue. The dealer says they cannot address the issue without corporate approval, and Jeep does not have a work flow to escallate the issue internally. I have photos which will clearly show the exposed 4 brake lines at the upper edge of the frame rail. I attempted to upload 8 photos of approximately 80-90 KB each. Your web portal would not accept any photos. Help me submit photos for review. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The brake pedal was depressed multiple times however still failed to respond. The vehicle proceeded to drift 150 yards causing the vehicle to crash into the contacts residence and come to a stop at a piece of furniture. No warning lights were illuminated. No injuries were sustained. The front passenger side of the vehicle was damaged. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was repaired for cosmetic damages, however; it was not diagnosed or repaired for the failure. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal failed to operate causing the contact to crash into the vehicle in front. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not damaged. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with a high-current fuse array that needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | 50,000 |
| Aug 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | We have had this jeep for a couple of years and it has less than 30k miles on it. Initially, the visor on the passenger side would drop out and just hang. This happened pretty much after we got it but just thought this was a feature of the jeep modularity so we would just push it back in. Now this started happening on driver side and I see this as a safety issue as this can obscure vision at the wrong time. I went to dealer/manufacturer(Jeep) and they do not see this as a defect worthy of replacing outside of their standard 3 year warranty. I had purchased an extended warranty from the dealer from Mastertech and they would not cover it either. This issue appears to be common defect in manufacturing design over several years over several lines of Jeep versions and I am shocked that something like this that could theoretically impair line of site for the driver while driving has not been addressed by Jeep. I am equally shocked that NHTSA has not pursued and or forced a safety recall for this. I have never had a car drop its visor and with this jeep both visors do this for a vehicle that gets very little use(under 30k miles). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The fuel supply line leading from the gas tank, along the passenger side of the transmission, and over the top of the transmission bell housing has failed and is leaking gas onto the transmission and then onto the ground. This is a dangerous fire hazard and placed my safety at risk. I have not yet taken the vehicle to a repair facility as I live over 30 minutes away from the nearest dealership. I am the only person that has inspected the vehicle and observed the leak using a remote camera as of the filing of this complaint on 7-18-24 at 1:30 pm. There were no warning lamps or messages associated with this part failure. I could smell a strong odor of gasoline fumes from within the vehicle which prompted me to inspect what the source was. As I understand, a previous recall for this part failure was issued in 2021, but did not include my VIN. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | Visors are not able to be used due to breaking—this happened within 2 years of purchasing the vehicle and there are forums of over 22 pages dedicated to this issue. I was driving, and the visit just fell from the roof, plastic piece holding it broke, it just dangles from a wire. Cannot see while driving into sun and I am unable to use my visors as a result. Extremely dangerous | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2024 | ENGINE | on 17th July 2024 afternoon I was driving the jeep and the engine started smoking. I quickly pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and within a couple of minutes the engine was on fire. I have raised the issue with Jeep and awaiting their response | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | STEERING | Our vehicle developed a steering problem and a friend told me that there was an issue with Jeeps that had an aluminum steering box and he gave me a copy of a TSB that described the exact problem I was having. I took the Jeep to the Jeep dealer that we have used to do all of our service work. The told me the problem was caused by the aluminum steering box as the TSB stated. The service manager at the dealership refused to warranty the work because it was past the warranty. He told me he has changed out several, but for him to do the work Jeep would have to authorize the work and gave me the number to call. I call Jeep Cares and received a case number. I received an email from Sugeeth, the case manager. He then called and let me know he would contact the dealer for information and get back to me. Sugeeth then sent me an email with no information except to let me know if I need further information I would need to bring the Jeep to the dealer for diagnosis and reopen the case. The Jeep has been to the dealer and they have done a complete diagnosis with a complete list of repair the needs to be done to correct the steering. I have copies of the repair estimate and emails. I also have a copy of the TSB that describes the problem with the following statement: "If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure." I am unable to upload the documents. I can email the documents any time. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | STRUCTURE | Aluminum body and paint bubbling and showing corrosion on doors, hood, and hinges. I called jeep but they are saying that the issue is only on the Gladiator, which is not accurate. It's also on the Wrangler Sport that I have, and they don't want to fix it. What do I do? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Sun visor just fell off the hinge as I attempted to lower it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2024 | STEERING | I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JL that I purchased in October of 2023. Since the day I bought it I noted that it wanders down the road and requires constant steering correction, left/right right/left left/left right/right and so on. It has excessive freeplay at top dead center of the steering. Mfg issued a TSB acknowledging the defective steering boxes that Jeep installed in our wranglers from 2018-2020. However, for those of us that bought used, they will not replace these dangerous steering gear boxes and I have had multiple close calls where even a moments inattention can result in the vehicle ending up in an adjacent lane or onto the shoulder of the road. This is not safe and the steering gear box TSB must be made a recall by NHTSA before someone ends up dead because of this safety issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V116000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | AIR BAGS | the accident the guy hit me on the back and I rolled over like four times. The air bag didn't come out. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed Medical attention | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Right after leaving work, the following message appear shifter error. Dash light up marking all type of errors whipers, gasoline, motor, etc. And the most scary part was NO power steering at all. Then ONE second latter it totally shut down. Thanks GAD! there where no cars behind me or next to me and I was able to pull over and tuns on my emergency lights. But I was about to go into the freeway only 2 blocks away from it. Just imagine! that happening at 65 or 70 miles in rush hour. I consider that my life was in danger with this issue, Not only mine everyone driving around me. What if it happens again? I am truly afraid to drive my jeep in a freeway or even travel. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | STRUCTURE | There is significant paint bubbling around all the door hinges and on the hood as well. This poses a concern because the areas are increasing in size as well as a safety issue as they’re around the door hinges. This Jeep was sold to us in Sept 2022 with these issues. The defect is getting worse. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal gasoline odor detected. The contact inspected the vehicle and became aware that gasoline was dripping underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a faulty fuel hose that was connected to the rear of the engine. The contact was informed that the fuel hose needed to be replaced. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,200. | Crash: No Fire: No | 50,200 |
| Apr 2024 | STEERING | While traveling on the interstate 3 months ago, my 2020 Jeep Wrangler began to vibrate violently after driving over a seam in the road while traveling around 70mph. After slowing down and pulling over, I assessed the exterior of the car and tires for any obvious defects and continued on without identifying any structural problems. Within the next 20 miles the violent reverberations occurred again. We pulled over, concerned that something catastrophic could occur and brought the Jeep to a local mechanic. The mechanic suggested that the wheels should be balanced which we complied with, although we had just recently had a tire rotation and balance prior to this trip, but thought perhaps the violent shaking caused the tires to misalign. That same day, we searched online to see if others had experienced a similar phenomenon and learned about the "death wobble". We called Jeep that day and they would neither confirm nor deny that the Jeep was safe to drive for the remainder of our trip. We continued on at a lower speed and encountered the same problem the following day. We feel this vehicle is unsafe to drive and Jeep has informed us that they do not have enough parts to fix our Jeep because of the volume of affected vehicles. We’ve been on a waitlist for the part for the past 3 months. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | STEERING,SUSPENSION | Driving on Interstate at 60 miles an hour, the vehicle shook back and forth so violently that I nearly lost control. I though something had broken in the suspension, and it was all all I could do to remain in my lane and get to the nearest off ramp. It subsided when I got off the freeway, where I physical inspected the wheels but couldn't find any visible issues with the suspension. It hasn't happened since (but now I stay off the freeway). I've taken the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer and was told that the issue is a known manufacture defect, which they referred to as an insane shake, and was told that I need to purchase a sway bar to correct the defect. No warning lighting appeared before or after. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | When starting my 2020 Jeep Wrangler all warning lights were flashing. I called dealership and they asked if the car could be driven. Eventually all of the lights went off except service engine and we were able to drive it to the dealer. They did a diagnostic check and could not identify the problem. They then reset the service engine light. One day later the same thing happened again shortly after starting and while we were driving. The car braked on its own without any notice while we were driving and everything started flashing again. We could not shift the car or move it. We decided to have it towed to the dealer. After 3 days they found that the ABS Module had to be replaced. Unfortunately these modules are back ordered for several months. I have no idea when my car might be fixed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN | Stellantis issued Recall #19A more than a year ago (NHTSA Recall #23V-116) and still does not have a remedy | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | STEERING,SUSPENSION | At or about 68mph always while on interstate highways if I drive over certain bumps in the road my vehicle gets a dangerous shaking of the steering wheel that is very violent shaking. This shaking does not stop until I bring my vehicle to a complete stop. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
