| May 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | My car is fairly new (2019 Hond Pilot EXL with 43K miles) but recently "Emissions Systems Problem" warning came up. I was going to take it to service center for diagnostic but the warning went away. I though it was just temporary issue but after some time warning is showing up again. I see some of the VIN with the same year and model were included in fuel injector fix for this warning by the Honda but my VIN is not included. | May 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission jerking/hard shifting. Loses acceleration, especially when approaching a yield or left turn (I.e. slowing down then accelerating to make the turn, car stalls when accelerating) When taken to 2 different dealerships I was told they couldn’t diagnose problem and at the second one I was mansplained that it was probably “user error” bc it’s a “computerized transmission”. Informed them this was the third vehicle I’ve had with this type of transmission, one of which whose transmission broke and I’m fully aware of what a jerking, stalling and improperly functioning transmission felt like. Needless to say, no one would “diagnose” the problem and it has progressively gotten worse. More jerky, harder shifting. Can feel it sitting at an idle stop and sometimes when I press the gas pedal to accelerate it’s a good 2-3 seconds before the vehicle jerks into motion. I was left in the middle of a busy intersection with my son in the car. After 20 minutes I finally disconnected and reconnected the battery in order to get the car out of the intersection. I have had this problem for the past 4 years and have been given different possible solutions over the years. They've told me it was a software problem, then they told me I should stop connecting my phone to the car, then I was told I needed a new battery. Obviously none of those "fixes" have worked. I have an appointment later this week to address this latest incident. | Apr 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | My wife was driving the car with our six-year old son. She stopped at a red light. The engine turned off from the auto-stop function (which we find annoying but cannot be permanently disabled) and the car would not restart. The warning lights were going crazy. The battery was so dead that the car could not even be jumped. There was no warning whatsoever. It was an extremely dangerous situation as the car died in the middle of a busy street. Thankfully it was close to home and I was able to come and take over. until help arrived The police had to come and divert traffic. People were honking and threatening me while I waited for the tow truck. When the two truck arrived, we could not get the car into neutral to move it out of the street because the gear shifting required the engine to start. It was an extremely dangerous situation and I shudder to think what could have happened had this occurred on a busier road. This causes the fuse system to malfunction and power the vehicle without keys being located near the vehicle. The car tries to start as well as the lights flash, dash turns on, and also the horn blares. The fuse system located under the steering wheel sounds like it will spark or blow fuses. The dealer is unable to fix the problem until May because the part is backordered due to many others having the same issue. This has been occurring for months. This issue required the removal of the horn fuse which is a public and personal safety hazard to drive without a functioning horn. The technician with Honda also mentioned I should remove the battery cable every night to prevent the car from draining the battery. In two such incidents, the vehicle stalled and all systems became inoperable (including the hazard lights) at busy intersections, endangering the lives of my wife and two small children. Recently, the Auto Shut Off has been engaging and the vehicle will completely shut off and go into Neutral. This has happened to us at stop lights with some frequency but has recently happened two times in stopped traffic on Interstate 95. We cannot get the vehicle to start back up without completely shutting off the ignition and going through the restart sequence. It took at least 10 minutes to finally turn on for me to at least get home. I know that this is probably once again a battery issue. On April 1st of 2022 we replaced the battery for the 3rd time. The first time it was replaced the car was still under warranty. I usually turn off the auto start because I have had this problem at least 8 times prior to this last problem. This is a dangerous problem that this keeps happening. I shouldn't have to replace a battery every year like this. There should be a way of seeing if the battery has low voltage but I have not seen anything in the car regarding voltage. There should be a recall, Honda says that no other customer has complaints about this. I do see other people on this forum that have this issue. It really is hard to keep taking days off to go to a Honda dealer to get a new battery at 350 each pop. Please let me know what Honda plans on doing for this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | SEAT BELTS | The driver's belt buckle receiver started malfunctioning and would click, but the seat belt would not lock at 93k miles. The belt would come unlatched while driving. The red release button would stick in the down position as well. Honda dealer said they would replace it under warranty, but it was non the less scary not to have a working seat belt. I question the quality of the part as I have had many other Hondas with 2-3 times the miles that never had a seat belt failure. I am driving a 2022 Honda Pilot loaner with 600 miles, and while the seat belt locks, it looks like it could eventually fail as well. | Feb 2023 | POWER TRAIN | I am writing you today to discuss ongoing transmission problems that I am having with my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite AWD. On two occasions in the past several months, the transmission has reacted unexpected shifting into neutral on it's own and giving the error message "STOP DRIVING WHEN SAFE" "REFER TO OWNERS MANUAL". This has happened both on a busy interstate in heavy traffic and at low speeds while backing out onto a busy residential street. In both cases, my wife was driving with my children in the car. The incident yesterday had her stuck in the middle of a residential street with a Honda Pilot that would neither go forward nor back, finally went into park, and would not engage forward gears until the care was restarted 4 times. My family was terrified and embarrassed. This could have resulted in a broadside or T bone impact if traffic had been busier or distracted. We took a picture of the dashboard fault and took the vehicle immediately to Northside Honda in San Antonio, TX. The service manager Jose stated that they were unable to read any faults recorded by the computer and that I knew as much as they did about the problem at that time. He stated that they would be happy to hang onto my car for several days and try and make it act up and give a code. I told him there was no way that I knew as much as they did as I don't make a living servicing and repairing Honda vehicles. This is the job I expect them to be able to do. I was also told that they would not just start replacing things randomly. In the end, I have a Honda Pilot back that my wife is afraid to drive in what is a very busy city. I purchased this vehicle for the safety and reliability I expect from Honda. I am well aware that Honda knows there are substantial issues with the ZF9 speed they are putting or have placed in these vehicles.
