| May 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | My car is fairly new (2019 Hond Pilot EXL with 43K miles) but recently "Emissions Systems Problem" warning came up. I was going to take it to service center for diagnostic but the warning went away. I though it was just temporary issue but after some time warning is showing up again. I see some of the VIN with the same year and model were included in fuel injector fix for this warning by the Honda but my VIN is not included. I think this is not that old of a car and Honda needs to address this safety issue and my VIP should be included to fix by Honda with no cost. Thanks. Kumar | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission jerking/hard shifting. Loses acceleration, especially when approaching a yield or left turn (I.e. slowing down then accelerating to make the turn, car stalls when accelerating) When taken to 2 different dealerships I was told they couldn’t diagnose problem and at the second one I was mansplained that it was probably “user error” bc it’s a “computerized transmission”. Informed them this was the third vehicle I’ve had with this type of transmission, one of which whose transmission broke and I’m fully aware of what a jerking, stalling and improperly functioning transmission felt like. Needless to say, no one would “diagnose” the problem and it has progressively gotten worse. More jerky, harder shifting. Can feel it sitting at an idle stop and sometimes when I press the gas pedal to accelerate it’s a good 2-3 seconds before the vehicle jerks into motion. I also have a video of the RPMs dropping for no reason at 30 MPH when the speed did not drop. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while reversing the vehicle, the rearview camera was inoperable. The “Camera System Failure” message was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V440000 (Electrical System, Back Over Prevention) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 60,000 |
| May 2023 | SUSPENSION | The front passenger side control arm ball join was found cracked open with the car under 34K miles (around 4 years of light use) during a normal routine maintenance. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Fuel pump is malfunctioning | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | ENGINE | Drove for about 12 minutes, parked, then returned less than 5 minutes to find that the car has caught on fire! The fire started to appear in the space between the hood and windshield, then burned aggressively within a few minutes. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | While waiting at a busy intersection, waiting to turn left, the idle stop malfunctioned and the engine would not restart. I was left in the middle of a busy intersection with my son in the car. After 20 minutes I finally disconnected and reconnected the battery in order to get the car out of the intersection. I have had this problem for the past 4 years and have been given different possible solutions over the years. They've told me it was a software problem, then they told me I should stop connecting my phone to the car, then I was told I needed a new battery. Obviously none of those "fixes" have worked. I have an appointment later this week to address this latest incident. There were no warning messages before the failure but now there is a "remote starter" warning, the heat and A/C no longer turn on and my seats no longer move. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION | At least 7 months ago my back up camera started malfunctioning. When starting car first time of the day the screen would blink, fuzzy, blue, the go to black and last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. One time I went to garage and opened passenger door without vehicle on and the camera /radio lit up.?? It did go off. I saw there was a recall but unfortunately not for my VIN. have had it to dealer twice and they found nothing diagnostic and the car was warmed up so the camera/radio area was working..Help! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Emissions System Problem | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | My wife was driving the car with our six-year old son. She stopped at a red light. The engine turned off from the auto-stop function (which we find annoying but cannot be permanently disabled) and the car would not restart. The warning lights were going crazy. The battery was so dead that the car could not even be jumped. There was no warning whatsoever. It was an extremely dangerous situation as the car died in the middle of a busy street. Thankfully it was close to home and I was able to come and take over. until help arrived The police had to come and divert traffic. People were honking and threatening me while I waited for the tow truck. When the two truck arrived, we could not get the car into neutral to move it out of the street because the gear shifting required the engine to start. It was an extremely dangerous situation and I shudder to think what could have happened had this occurred on a busier road. I have videos of the incident that I can share if helpful (wont let me upload on website). Honda replaced the battery and basically shrugged. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | When starting vehicle first thing my back up camera screen blinks fuzzy, then blue, then to black. After about 15 minutes the screen comes on. Have had it into dealer they cannot find a problem. So no back up camera available.when pulling out of garage. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | According to a Honda dealership, a bracket holding the exhaust pipe under the car snapped and caused the pipe to then lay on the bumper, which melted the bumper. They said there was nothing they could do. This is a manufacturer defect. If a bracket snaps, the bracket should be replaceable. At this point, the bracket needs to be replaced and so does the bumper. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING,SEATS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The sensor system for my car are malfunctioning when the car is off. This causes the fuse system to malfunction and power the vehicle without keys being located near the vehicle. The car tries to start as well as the lights flash, dash turns on, and also the horn blares. The fuse system located under the steering wheel sounds like it will spark or blow fuses. The dealer is unable to fix the problem until May because the part is backordered due to many others having the same issue. This has been occurring for months. This issue required the removal of the horn fuse which is a public and personal safety hazard to drive without a functioning horn. The technician with Honda also mentioned I should remove the battery cable every night to prevent the car from draining the battery. The technician himself is also experiencing the same problem with his car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | In multiple incidents, our 2019 Honda Pilot stalled and would not restart. In two such incidents, the vehicle stalled and all systems became inoperable (including the hazard lights) at busy intersections, endangering the lives of my wife and two small children. The vehicle has been to the dealership where it was originally purchased (brand new) without resolution. There were no warning or indicator lights prior to the incidents. Honda has indicated that there may be an issue with the auto-idle system on certain vehicles (which this may be related to), but has not issued a recall despite this incredibly dangerous and life-threatening issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The entertainment display which is also the rear view camera display, turns off intermittently during driving and displays the following message: Network communication lost MOST Net Off. When this happens the rear view/back up camera doesn’t function creating an unsafe situation. The display will work again after turning the car off and then back on. The issue is random and unable to be reproduced. A dealer hasn’t confirmed the issue. It hasn’t been inspected. There were no warning lamps or display messages before the issue occurred. It has happened a 6-7 times in the past 9 months. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | Auto stop/start in vehicle activated at red light, vehicle engine turned off and would not restart. Vehicle kept saying shift to Park to turn on engine, vehicle was in park. Waited a few minutes at the intersection, engine finally turned over and car started. An issue had occurred multiple times before stopping at a red light, but usually it just turns off my radio or digital dash board when auto start/stop is activated, and the radio comes back on if you let off the brake and the feature is disengaged. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ENGINE | This 2019 Honda Pilot Elite has an Engine Auto Shut Off that engages when stopped at traffic lights, stopped traffic, etc. It can be turned off manually each time after starting the car ignition but when it is not - it will engage in these stopped positions. Recently, the Auto Shut Off has been engaging and the vehicle will completely shut off and go into Neutral. This has happened to us at stop lights with some frequency but has recently happened two times in stopped traffic on Interstate 95. We cannot get the vehicle to start back up without completely shutting off the ignition and going through the restart sequence. It is not an immediate fix and we are in a compromised and unsafe position on a highway without being able to start the car | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES | When I was parking my Honda Pilot 2019, the car suddenly accelerated on its own without pushing the gas pedal and hit the wall of a building. This accident caused head, neck and back injury for myself. FYI, there was not any warning lamps or messages or other symptoms. I have also reported this incident to American Honda Motor but no one has inspected my car yet. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | On friday March 3, 2023 driving home from work, stop at a light and the car does not turn back on. It took at least 10 minutes to finally turn on for me to at least get home. I know that this is probably once again a battery issue. On April 1st of 2022 we replaced the battery for the 3rd time. The first time it was replaced the car was still under warranty. I usually turn off the auto start because I have had this problem at least 8 times prior to this last problem. This is a dangerous problem that this keeps happening. I shouldn't have to replace a battery every year like this. There should be a way of seeing if the battery has low voltage but I have not seen anything in the car regarding voltage. There should be a recall, Honda says that no other customer has complaints about this. I do see other people on this forum that have this issue. It really is hard to keep taking days off to go to a Honda dealer to get a new battery at 350 each pop. Please let me know what Honda plans on doing for this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | SEAT BELTS | The driver's belt buckle receiver started malfunctioning and would click, but the seat belt would not lock at 93k miles. The belt would come unlatched while driving. The red release button would stick in the down position as well. Honda dealer said they would replace it under warranty, but it was non the less scary not to have a working seat belt. I question the quality of the part as I have had many other Hondas with 2-3 times the miles that never had a seat belt failure. I am driving a 2022 Honda Pilot loaner with 600 miles, and while the seat belt locks, it looks like it could eventually fail as well. I would feel safer if a Honda engineer inspected the buckle locks. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Vehicle shows Emission System Fail and problem with AWD system after 36000 miles. I am not sure how safe it is to drive this vehicle. Problem started same day when I went to dealer to check if there is any issues with my car. Vehicle is right now at dealer and they said they are going to charge me for finding out issue. Message in dashboard came out when honda dealer’s technician was driving. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | Twice now when waiting at a light the auto idle turns the engine off. When the light has turned green, I go to step on the gas and the car shuts completely off. I need to put it in park, step on the break and restart my car. 5-10 second delay in going at the green light. The last time this happened it was at night and a semi didn’t realize I was stopped and had to run off the road to avoid hitting me. This is extremely dangerous and many are reporting it for years. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The emission system problem sign showed up at 34198 miles. The engine doesn't have power after the sign showed up. While checking on the internet, it happens frequently for Honda Pilot. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/honda-pilot-emissions-system-problem-sees-drivers-replacing-fuel-injectors | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | POWER TRAIN | I am writing you today to discuss ongoing transmission problems that I am having with my 2019 Honda Pilot Elite AWD. On two occasions in the past several months, the transmission has reacted unexpected shifting into neutral on it's own and giving the error message "STOP DRIVING WHEN SAFE" "REFER TO OWNERS MANUAL". This has happened both on a busy interstate in heavy traffic and at low speeds while backing out onto a busy residential street. In both cases, my wife was driving with my children in the car. The incident yesterday had her stuck in the middle of a residential street with a Honda Pilot that would neither go forward nor back, finally went into park, and would not engage forward gears until the care was restarted 4 times. My family was terrified and embarrassed. This could have resulted in a broadside or T bone impact if traffic had been busier or distracted. We took a picture of the dashboard fault and took the vehicle immediately to Northside Honda in San Antonio, TX. The service manager Jose stated that they were unable to read any faults recorded by the computer and that I knew as much as they did about the problem at that time. He stated that they would be happy to hang onto my car for several days and try and make it act up and give a code. I told him there was no way that I knew as much as they did as I don't make a living servicing and repairing Honda vehicles. This is the job I expect them to be able to do. I was also told that they would not just start replacing things randomly. In the end, I have a Honda Pilot back that my wife is afraid to drive in what is a very busy city. I purchased this vehicle for the safety and reliability I expect from Honda. I am well aware that Honda knows there are substantial issues with the ZF9 speed they are putting or have placed in these vehicles. This is a safety concern for me and my family and I want someone to reach out to discuss this issue further. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
