| Feb 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Honda Pilot, 2019. Loose wiring causing the infotainment center and lane assist to go out while driving, there is a service bulletin out there, but dealership will not repair. Bulletin number 20-058. This is dangerous while driving, and will not recover until the car is turned off and turned back on. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | ENGINE | There are 2 issues. First, the engine fails to restart when auto start/stop is engaged. This has happened at traffic lights/stop signs in traffic at least 15 times in the past 2 months. However, the issue randomly happened prior to that timeframe. The engine never restarts right away. This puts the passengers in the vehicle at risk of being rear-ended and/or stranded on the roadway. When the dealer was asked about this a few months ago, they dismissed it and told me they would charge $189 to look at it. Sometimes when the engine won't restart, the display will very quickly (for a second or two) flash "Collision Mitigation System Problem". The second issue happened yesterday. I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. After about 10 minutes, I got out of the car and used remote start. It started. The vehicle is available for inspection, if requested. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | AEB/FCW. On January 24, 2023 while traveling on I-15 the Control Panel flashed “Warning” and the brakes were applied. There was no vehicle in my lane. There were other vehicles in adjacent lanes. This occurred additionally on the following dates. 1/22/23 (2x). 1/17/23, 1/12/23(3x) and 12/20/22. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | LANE DEPARTURE | LDW, LKAS. This system does not work. When it is engaged the vehicle steering wheel turns to the left and crosses over the white line. It got worse after the “Recall”. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | ACC While driving on I-15 a warning appeared on the Control Panel “Warning the ACC has malfunctioned” Within the last 90 days this occurred 6 times. Now the ACC has stopped working. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Often times when accelerating the car has issues and will sometimes feel like it is dropping down a shift while I am in the middle of accelerating. Also, if Idle stop is left on, the car will sometimes shut off completely before turning back on. Yesterday, the car shut off completely then turned back on but I could not get it out of neutral. when I tried to shut the car off nothing would happen and when I tried to put it in park to then try and shut the car off still nothing happened. Finally, after a few minutes it turned off and I was able to start it back up and put it in drive. This is while I was coming off of the interstate and going into a round about. I only stopped for a second to merge onto the roundabout so this was a potentially dangerous situation. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | ENGINE | The problem started about a year ago and has happened a number of times. When stopping with the auto idle stop enabled the engine would sputter and nearly stall. This happens more frequently, but recently the engine will not restart and you have to manually shut off the car and then restart the car which can take upwards of 30 seconds to a minute. This tends to happen in dangerous situations like stop and go traffic, exit and on ramps during rush hour with lots of traffic. I took to the dealership thinking it was a battery issue but the battery tested fine. This seems to happen more frequently now. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | POWER TRAIN | While stopped at a traffic light on a busy street, the transmission shifted by itself from drive into neutral. The vehicle would not move forward and it would not let us shift it back into drive. I finally suggested to my wife that we turn the car off and see if that would help. After doing do , we were able to regain control of the car and shift it back to drive. We had another incident when the vehicle was almost new where we were turning left and the transmission just stopped as if we had shifted into neutral. We were able to continue without restarting the vehicle, but this is potentially a very dangerous situation. We reported this incident to the dealer with no resolution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | On the highway traveling at ~60mph traveling straight away and the brakes slammed on without reason and almost caused a major accident. There was no vehicle in close proximity and no imminent collision that should have caused the vehicle to slam on the brakes. The random slamming of the brakes almost caused a rear end collision with our vehicle and the car behind us. Similar situation but driving around town at lower speed around 30 mph but same behavior. The car slammed again on brakes where there was not imminent collision that should have caused the vehicle to take evasive action or slam on the brakes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | At a stoplight my vehicle completely shut off and would not restart until I put the car in park, then pushed the brake and pushed the button to start. I believe it went into the idle stop mode just before this happened. After it turned back on the radio station had switched to am stations and I couldn’t get it to turn back to my fm stations despite pushing the fm button, my fm presets or using the scan. Once to a safe spot after several more minutes of driving I put it in park and turned it off. I then turned the car back on which brought my normal radio stations back on. I just bought this car in October 2022 and have had no other issues yet. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2023 | ENGINE | When driving and coming to a stop the idle - stop engages but when the brake is released the engine does not restart. The vehicle dies and has to be completely shut off and restarted. The vehicle start button has to be pressed 2 or 3 times before it finally restarts. This has occurred multiple times and has happened in a high traffic area. The vehicle takes 3-5 minutes before it can be fully restarted. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Car has failed to restart multiple times after the idle mode feature kicks in when coming to a complete stop. Emergency lights also do not function when this occurs making this very dangerous, especially at night. It can take several minutes before the car starts. Car was looked at by the dealership where they could not replicate it. I disable this feature now when driving. The car has failed to start now on a few occasions and sometimes will only start in accessory mode. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | When stopped at a light, the auto engine idle stop/start did not re-engage after taking my foot off the brake. It took the car a few seconds to turn back on and be able to accelerate. This could happen in the middle of an intersection and cause accidents. This happened a second time today and the LKAS system was alerting that maintenance is needed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ENGINE | Our Honda auto engine idle stop system routinely malfunctions. On numerous occasions, our car has completely turned off (radio and other power features go off as well) when it was in idle-stop mode and tried to start again. This has happened on major intersections when we come to a red light more than 10X with my family in the car. It causes delays in getting the car to start again. We have to put the car back in park, press the brake, and push the start button. We have to repeat these steps numerous times before the car will start again. Extremely dangerous. While not as dangerous, it does occur at stops signs. We've taken the care to the dealership multiple times. We are told they are aware of the issue but there is nothing they can do. The only solution is to disable the auto-idle button each time we restart the car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | When stopped at a stoplight or stop sign, the car has an auto start/stop feature where instead of the car idling, it shuts off and then starts back up when the brake is released. The car stalls and displays several dashboard warning lights and will not start back up after it auto stops. After several minutes, I can usually get it to start back up, but it typically happens in heavy traffic causing a substantial safety issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | This is a 2019 Honda Pilot with start stop function. There is a noticeable delay in activation and getting longer with time; this is a 3 year old vehicle. During 2 other instances, the system failed and vehicle would not start on a public street. During these failures and delays, other than the obvious collision safety issue, the safety systems are unavailable via a message on the dash. When it eventually starts back up it functions normally. This is clearly the system prematurely failing or the system prematurely killing the battery (which has a normal functional life of 5 - 7 years). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V932000 (Structure, Latches/Locks/Linkages). The contact stated that the hood was not latching properly. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the dealer stated that the vehicle needed to be taken to the Collision Center. The vehicle was taken to the Collision Center and the hood was replaced; however, not all the needed parts were available. The vehicle was not completely repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact to seek assistance from the Collision Center. The failure mileage was 25,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 25,000 |
| Nov 2022 | ENGINE | No Restart After Auto Start/Stop Engages. On several occasions when coming to a full stop at a red light/stop sign or heavy traffic, the auto start/stop feature turns of the engine. However, when releasing the brake, which is supposed to turn the engine back on, the engine stalls and takes several attempts to restart the engine via the push button starter. Have taken the vehicle to our local Honda dealership several times. First couple of times they said it was a weak battery and they replaced it twice under the vehicles warranty. The third time they said it was our aftermarket forward camera that was causing interference and was charge by the dealer to remove and reprogram the "system". Fourth time they said it was a dirty throttle body and also had to pay to have it cleaned. Eventually found article on the internet from June '22 that there is an open investigation by NHTSA on this issue. Took vehicle back to dealership again and they wanted to charge for cleaning the throttle body but declined. Vehicle is not safe to drive with Auto/Stop feature on. We consciously have to turn off feature when initially starting the vehicle to avoid it from stalling in busy traffic or intersection. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The automatic start/stop system turns the car off at red lights, as it it supposed to. However, several times the car will not start when I push the gas pedal but instead the whole car turns off. It takes opening and closing the door while pushing the park button and the engine start button to turn the car back on. This usually occurs at red lights which is very dangerous. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Our 2019 Honda Pilot has issues when the start-stop is active. When we come to a stop at a traffic light, gate, etc. it often will not restart on brake release. This creates serious concern in heavy traffic and we have been close to being rear-ended at stop lights. To restart the car we often have issues if it stalls during this brake press and release. It seems to electronically show in park, but not able to restart since it is not in park. We also see the issue when brake is pressed and tries to restart based on time. There are various lights on when this occurs. If we don’t activate the start-stop we don’t see the issue. If we manually turn the start-stop we don’t see the issue. However we need remember to turn this off manually defeating the fuel savings. I believe we can replicate this. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated while stopped, the vehicle independently shifted to neutral. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate or shift to drive. The vehicle had to be turned off and restarted and the vehicle to operated correctly. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The contact also stated that there was a clicking noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 71,000 |
| Nov 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | During stops, when I release the foot from the brake pedal, car suddenly shuts off, which becomes a safety issue. It takes me a minute or two to get the car started again. In case I shut off the "Auto-shutoff" feature, car works perfectly fine. I must shut off the feature every time I restart the car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | In AUg 2021 when the auto stop engaged the car would fail to turn on. Errors would come on on the dash and while car would die at stoplight. Took to dealer and they could not replicate so nothing was done. This happened randomly and we would need to put in park, wait a while and turn back on. Then in Oct 2021 the battery died and they replaced under warranty. There was no issues until Nov. 2022. The same started happening. Again dealer could not replicate and nothing was done. They did note the 1 year old advanced battery was low and charge and have charged it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | For several months I have been experiencing occasionally and randomly a complete shut down of my vehicle whenever I'm at a complete stop. I need to restart my vehicle completely which typically turns on, but in some instances I have to try up to a couple of times. This has happened over a dozen times in a 6-9 months time frame. Sometimes when restarting the vehicle a message will appear on my screen that says my auto theft has been disabled and stays on until the next time I restart. This issue has been a source of anxiety for my children and I and we feel unsafe. I dropped of my vehicle at the dealership and they explained that my 2019 is due for a new battery which is being installed today 11/9/2022 at 45k miles. I never got a warning that a new battery was required and I've been informed by the dealership that "old codes had to be erased". They are assuring me that this will take care of the problem I have been experiencing for months. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | ENGINE | Engine will not restart after idle stop engaged. Vehicle must be put in park, shut off, and turned back on for engine to restart. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
