| Jul 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | This is a problem with the auto engine idle shut off. The engine shuts off normally when I come to a stop when I have the system engaged. The problems begin when I take my foot off the break expecting the engine to start up again. What happens consistently (though not all the time) is that when I take my foot off the brake, the engine shuts off, shifts itself into Park, and I have trouble getting the engine to start up again. A number of warning messages show up on the center console as well. Things like, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, Brake System warnings start displaying. Sometimes, I can get the engine to start up again within 30 seconds. Sometimes, it's been more than a minute. It almost looks/sounds like the battery is dead too (makes that clicking sound and the RPM gauge jiggles around zero). My Honda service shop says they couldn’t replicate the issue, that there are no codes, and no service advisories. This started happening around 6-8 months ago and the incidents have recently increased significantly in frequency. This is a significant safety issue as every time this happens, which is now daily, I am vulnerable to being rear-ended and other vehicles are vulnerable to being in an accident by trying to go around me while I’m waiting for my vehicle to be able to restart. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Collision mitigation system problem error keeps appearing randomly on the screen! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | My van regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership twice regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. Not only does this cause performance issues, there have been several close calls when I have made a left turn/ right turn into traffic and the vehicle hesitates for a few seconds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Rear backup camera failed. There is already a recall for this problem but does not extend to all VINs. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Vehicle shifts hard in low gears creating a safety risk | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at an intersection and attempting to make a left turn, the accelerator pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact waited approximately 3-4 seconds and depressed the accelerator pedal again and the vehicle responded. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,186. | Crash: No Fire: No | 34,186 |
| Jun 2022 | ENGINE | Frequently the engine will stall on restart after idle stop system cuts the engine off at a light. Occasionally the stall will lead to a full reboot of the control system taking up to 3 minutes to allow a restart of the engine. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | In September 2021, I started occasionally receiving the error message "Collision Mitigation System Problem" on my dashboard. It would appear and quickly disappear. At that time, my car shut itself off when I came to a full stop at traffic lights and stop signs 3 different times. The car would boot back up, but it happened to me in the middle of intersections. I took the vehicle into the dealership and they told me it was the battery. I had the battery replaced, but with time, the "Collision Mitigation System" error reappeared along with other messages, "Engine Management System Problem" and "Road Departure Mitigation Problem." During this time, my car would brake on its own occasionally, happening 6 times in total, when there was no threat of a head-on collision. Three of these incidents happened in the middle of intersections with cars all around me and in one instance, my car come to a screeching halt on its own making me terrified that the car behind me was going to crash into me. The last straw was as I was driving to my child's school and when I came to a curve in the road, my steering locked up completely, not allowing me to turn with the curve. I was able to slam on my brakes and keep myself from crashing, but it was very dangerous. At the same time, the same error messages were flooding my dashboard. That is when I drove my just 3 year old car back into the Honda Dealership and told them they must fix this before I put my child back into that car, and my car still sits there. The dealership informed me that my Collision Assistance Camera that is integral to the Honda Sensing safety mechanisms is "faulty" and will cost me $1,500-$1,700 to repair. I see online that this is being investigated in 2017-2019 Honda CRVs and 2018-2019 Honda Accords sedans. I implore you to also investigate this same system error in 2019 Honda Odysseys. The Odyssey is a family car, but yet I am now scared to drive my family in this vehicle for fear of it causing a collision. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | STRUCTURE | From time to time the automatic sliding doors (usually the driver side) would fail to close when the close button was pressed. The sliding door would move toward closing but it would bounce back to open position after traveling 2/3 of the way as if it detected an obstruction. At time it would take many tries for the door to actually close itself successfully. It happened at random occasions with no patterns. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | passenger side slide door unable to open. i have older people to transport and becomes highly issue to move them to other side and get out of the vehicle. dealer charged for the issue and just manually reset coulple of days back and again it started coming. kindly address the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Car has 22,000 miles. And has intermittent transmissions issues. After a stop, I accelerated thru and intersection then when I pulled my foot off the gas to slow down the car engine revved up so loud, really loud. But there was no movement. Also coming off of a stop the car doesn’t go sometimes. I have to push the gas more. If I’m on the freeway at high speeds and I release the gas because I know the traffic is slowing up ahead. The car will shift down loudly and sometimes jerk. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | I purchased my 19' Odyssey in March, almost two months ago. It was used with only 19k miles. During the test drive I mentioned to the sales guy (sitting in passenger seat) a strange noise that sounded like fluttering, but only when accelerating 1k-1500k RPM. I didn't think much of it so I made the purchase. Come May 2nd I got the Oil changed (at the same dealership). I couldn't help but notice the same sound mentioned earlier, but even louder. Since then I've recorded numerous videos of the sound, also worth mentioning the speaker crackling. On Monday of this week I took the car in, showed the mechanic the video of the engine noise and speaker crackle. He mentioned he's only worked on one other odyssey with the same engine sound, resulted being the short block. After they were done, I was told by the service writer that they couldn't replicate the engine noise but did change fiber optic connectors for my speaker crackling (crackle still occurs but only on HD signal). I went over to the Service Manager and showed him the videos, we went for a drive around and heard the noise. He said to drop off the car Friday (today) and he'll have a loaner ready for me. I dropped off the van, spoke with the senior mechanic and the manager, they saw the videos and said they are going to take care of it. They wanted to test drive the car, however the sound is much louder when my car is either cold, or before reaching it's regular temps. I will attach two links to this letter that better show the problem at hand. One being my YouTube channel and the other of the forums where many others just like myself share the same problem. https://youtube.com/channel/UCuOrw9CP7Njl2O_EAF4fsFA https://www.odyclub.com/threads/rattle-noise-on-acceleration-revisited.347853/page-36 | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | AUTOMATIC RAIN SENSING WIPERS EQUIPPED WITH ELITE MODELS DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY HINDERING VISIBILITY IN RAIN/SNOW. IT FUNCTIONS IRRADICABLY, WIPING TOO FAST WHEN THERE IS VERY LITTLE RAIN OR CONVERSELY, NOT WIPING ENOUGH WHEN THERE'S A DOWNPOUR. ADJUSTING SENSITIVITY LEVELS KNOB DID NOT AFFECT ANYTHING. LOCAL DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS HAVE REFUSED TO TROUBLESHOOT. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Six months or more ago, my van started acting as though it is stuck in a gear before it finally shifts to the next gear. At first is happened every once in a while, but it now happens several times every trip and always at speeds between 25-40mph. Additionally, when I press down on the gas pedal, there sometimes tends to be a delay in it responding, so I've been very careful about pulling out in traffic. But recently, it seems to be happening while the van is already in motion. And, just yesterday, when accelerating from a stop, the car lurched forward and the wheels screeched. Regarding electrical issues, just this past December, we were driving home from vacation, and as we were passing through downtown Nashville, the car suddenly lost all electrical power. As the car began to slow, my husband pumped the gas as we were on an interstate junction and had no other alternative. Thankfully, after a 10-15 seconds, everything turned back on and we continued to our way. I've owned the van since Oct 2020 and it only has 57K miles on it. We've had several Hondas over the past 25 years (this is our 3rd Odyssey), and have loved them all. But, I'm very concerned about safety as well as the money spent. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On April 14, 2022 I parked our Odyssey in the parking lot of our child care center. I went in the building and when I came out of the building (approximately 5-7 minutes later) flames were coming out of the hood near the windshield. Within a few more minutes the flames had engulfed the front half or two-thirds of the car. Prior to this incident we had no warning lamps, and zero indication of anything wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle had approximately 35,000 miles and had always run perfectly. The incident has been reported to insurance. A fire inspector came to the scene and said the damage was so bad we would likely not know the cause of the fire. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Minivan's transmission seems to lurch/skip while driving at lower speeds. Did it twice in a matter of seconds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | My vehicle has a problem with delayed acceleration and excessive acceleration. When releasing my foot from the brake pedal then pressing on the gas pedal, the vehicle doesn't always accelerate when the gas pedal is pressed. There seems to be a few second delay and then all of a sudden there is too much acceleration. We've reported this to our dealership several times. Several of their employees told us that this is just the nature of the 9 speed transmission. We've also reported it to Honda's corporate service and they didn't acknowledge any problems. They were plenty nice but lacked what I felt was the drive to help. Their time between my report and their follow up was terribly long. There are multiple reports of the same exact thing online so I know it's not exclusive to us. This is an absolute safety issue as the delayed acceleration can cause us to get hit from behind and also mess up our timing as we move along w/ traffic. The excessive acceleration is a safety issue in that it may cause us to hit a vehicle or something in front of us as the vehicle jolts. Overall, the vehicle is fantastic other than this issue. I've told the dealer and Honda as such. This has gone on since owning the vehicle and even this morning, 4/5/2022, with approximately 53k miles on the vehicle. Fortunately, we haven't had any accidents and I hope there is never an accident with us or any other 2019 Honda Odyssey owners....thus my reason for sending this message. Thank you for your consideration. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I’ve had this vehicle into the shop many times for what seems to be erratic shifting at low speeds. Each time I go they tell me they’ve done and update and the problem is not resolved. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I was driving my 2019 Honda Odyssey on the highway and it stopped suddenly in the middle of the highway. The car went to idle mode and changed itself to park gear. We had to off the car and restart it which was dangerous in the middle of the highway. This same incident happened earlier too but in a residential street. We took it to the dealership but they said they couldn’t find anything wrong. Then I heard the news story about nhtsa investigation into this problem with Honda and wanted to report my experience. This is dangerous and they need to figure out what is going on. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION | The multi function display froze up at beginning of the power cycle with an error message about Apple Carplay not available. All other functions of the display were also frozen out such that the front window defogger, and backup camera would not function. The frozen display lasted throughout the entire drive cycle and even remained after the car was parked for 15 approximately 15 minutes. Full function returned on the next drive cycle about 40 minutes later. Dealership confirmed that a code was stored but did not give the code. Dealership requested a $75 charge in order to update the software in the multi function device. This device is required to operate defrost and backup camera functions so expect this is a safety critical concern. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle suddenly experienced Phantom Braking” and the vehicle decelerated to 60 MPH. The contact tapped the brakes excessively causing the sudden self-braking to cease. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 31,000 |
| Feb 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | When I look up the recalls for my vehicle https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls says "If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA". My vehicle manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy safety recall Manufacturer Recall Number W83 / NHTSA Recall Number 20V-438. I've been in communication with my dealer for over a year trying to get this fixed. Every time, including last week, they say "we can't fix that because the parts are on backorder". | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES | When braking hard it or on hills shakes the whole vehicle bad. Has been doing this since about 10,000 miles. Was taken back to dealer for this at 12,000 miles . I have new brakes and rotors changed 3 times since. Still not right. I think it’s ABS problem or electronic brake issue | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2022 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would downshift without warning, causing the vehicle to lurch forward. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 59,500. | Crash: No Fire: No | 59,500 |
| Dec 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION | Driving 60mph on the highway, everything electrical shut off and on several times. The dash screen, the touch screen, the AC, the lights. I immediately took an exit and got off, and when the rebooting stopped I was going about 30mph and the car shifted by itself into park. Then there was a horrible grinding sound of metal on metal...I hit the brakes to pull off the road the car got under 20mph and stopped instantaneously. I had the car towed to my local Honda dealership and they said they cannot replicate the issue, nor see any error codes. They will not take apart anything to check for damage to the parking rod because there were no error codes...And they want me to pick up the vehicle today. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
