| Dec 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Right sliding door will not fully close. It gets a few inches from being closed, then reopens all the way. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | There is often an acceleration hesitation, I have taken the vehicle to various Honda dealers and received no answers of what may be causing the acceleration to be delayed. Coming from a complete stop and trying to pull out and make a left or right turn with oncoming traffic the vehicle doesn't accelerate immediately risking a chance of me being hit by oncoming traffic. I am also teaching my daughter to drive, and we were nearly hit by a car because the van stalled when she was making a left turn. After it fails to accelerate it then takes off at a very high rate of speed causing the wheels to peel off. At some point I feel like this defect is going to cause an accident or something worse. I just pray the issue is addressed before it happens to anyone. There is no warning light, or messages that indicate there is a problem. This problem is ongoing but not consistent on a daily basis it just happens often and randomly ,and has been going on for almost 2 years now. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | After driving for over 20 minutes this occurred. Driving down the highway my car had transmission code alert lost speed had to pull over. Turned off car then back on still had alert. For safety reasons I had to drive the car off highway with RMPs going up as I drive. I had the Car towed to a Honda dealership who said dead batter which erased codes and sensor was changed. Got the car back and I had an incident trying to cross traffic where I stepped on gas and it would not go at a normal speed until loud shift and it kicks in. Then another incident driving down highway in Atlanta traffic. Been driving for over an hour, took my foot off the gas due to construction. When I pressed the gas again no gas/speed. The speed kept dropping. No Alerts. Speed dropped to 40mph then a loud shift sound and the car started to regain speed. I am very concerned for my safety. Went back to Honda dealership and they are telling me nothings wrong with the car and no codes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | I have had my 2019 Honda Odyssey in for transmission problems on 3 occasions. The first two times were because of rough shifting with clunking and jerking when upshifting. The mechanic drove with me and after several upshifts with jerking and clunking did, finally, admit that it was rough upshifting. However, when I picked up the vehicle, I was told that nothing was wrong, but that they did download some software to help. I did not help. They said they couldn't address transmission problems unless the failure was experienced by their mechanics. A month later, I was driving about 60-65 mph, on a local highway, in heavy traffic, when the transmission slipped back to a low gear and stuck there with the engine racing. There was nowhere to turn off and cars and trucks were honking at me as I tried to pull over. (It was a very dangerous situation and my handicapped husband was with me. We were both very scared.)I was finally able to pull over into a parking area. but the car wouldn't shift down to neutral when I came to a stop. I called the Honda Dealer and asked if I should have it towed there. He said, "No, when this happens, just turn off the engine and then turn it back on again and see what happens." I did and the transmission acted normally again. I took it into the dealer the next day. They gave me a rental car so they could check it overnight, but returned it to me saying that they detected nothing wrong. I told them that there was something very wrong with the transmission and that I was reluctant to drive it. They replied that nothing could be done unless they witnessed the failure firsthand....the frantic phone call I made for help didn't count as evidence. I think they are hoping my warranty expires before the transmission goes....and It will go! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The vehicle often judders/stutters when accelerating (almost seems like it is buckling), especially when going from low speeds to higher. On occasions, when accelerating, juddering has caused the vehicle to leap forward. This has been happening ever since purchase of the brand new vehicle from the dealer; however, it appears to be occurring more frequently now (at 40,000 miles). We have mentioned this to the dealer and they only recommended a transmission flush. We are concerned both about safety and the durability of the vehicle itself (which was a pretty expensive purchase). On researching this further, it appears that several other owners have been complaining about similar problems. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | On Sunday while driving on North Gayton Road at 45 MPH the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "P" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype. I quickly pulled over into the next available turn and noticed when I stopped that the electronic gear shift was in Park and not Drive. That was what the big red "P" was on the dash. It had tried to shift into Park while we were driving. It scared us to death. It has had other minor erratic electrical type problems. The flashers will suddenly be on when no one was near that button, or we will be driving down the road on a bright clear day and the wipers will come on briefly and then usually turn off after a few wipes. I do not know if it is the prom, or the computer, or a short somewhere. This morning it says the battery is low, but it is a brand new battery. We have 67196 miles on the car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | When stopping at an intersection multiple times the idle stop turns the car off and the vehicle refuses to start again and all electronics stop working until the vehicle is turned off completely and the driver door is opened. Does not happen all the time so can't consistently reproduce to have a service center confirm. Vehicle has been inspected during other recall repairs and I was told the repairs being done would not fix that issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it. I've been lucky that an accident hasn't occurred, but I've been scared it would on multiple occasions. This happens typically in stop and go traffic. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The auto engine stop feature left me stranded when the engine died. I pulled up to a traffic light and the engine cut off and wouldn’t start automatically when I let my foot off the brake. Also wouldn’t start when I tried manually starting it. Had battery and alternator tested. Both tested fine. Car finally started later. Seems to be ok if you disable the auto shut off function. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Three months into purchasing a brand new 2019 Honda Odyssey EX-L my car would not start. I was told my battery was drained/bad cell, due to the weather being too cold and all the electrical components of my vehicle. We lived in South Georgia and my van is kept in a garage. I was given a new battery at the beginning of 2019 and now in 2022 I’m told I need another AGM battery because mine is dead. I’m told by the dealership they can’t diagnose the problem exactly, but they are 75% sure this is the issue causing my van not to start, unable to be jump started, code P0600, warning lights stating emissions system problems, break system failure, anti-lock break system failure. Outside of Honda I’m told something is draining my battery, but Honda takes no responsibility and it’s out of pocket for a new $240 battery, which may or may not be the issue. Looking online at customer reviews, I’m not the only person with this issue. MANY MANY MANY Honda Odyssey owners have complained of the same issues and nothing has been done by Honda. My vehicle slammed on breaks driving down the interstate at over 70 MPH while my family was in the car. My doors stop closing if I start the car while the doors are mid-close, it will tell me to apply break while shifting to park even when the break is applied. There is an electrical issue within the Odyssey that needs to be addressed and recalled. These vehicles are too expensive to be malfunctioning and needing replacement parts after 3-4 years. I drove my Toyota to over 350,000 miles and never changed a battery. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | This has happened twice so far. Car has been driven for awhile, come to a stoplight, auto idle engine kicks in and car shuts down. Car display says press brakes and hit starter to turn car back on. I am essentially stopped at a light unable to move. I am on my 3rd battery for my 2019 Odyssey. I have taken to dealership for diagnostic and they're unable to replicate. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | While driving, if I don't make a complete stop (say at a yield sign), and I accelerate, there is a 1-2 second gap between when I press the pedal and the van actually goes. This can happen while fully stopped, while yielding, or even while getting onto the highway. Taking it back to the dealer has yielded only firmware upgrades to the software and recommending a $400 transmission flush. This happens more frequently while in economy mode, but also happens in sport mode. This has been going on for about a year now. The dealer has stated there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, but if I ever have to suddenly accelerate it could mean I will get into an accident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V438000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The sensor on the passenger sliding door failed to work when the engine was on. Once the engine was off, the sliding door would close. The problem was reproduced by a Honda dealer service and while they were checking with the extended warranty to see if the sensor would be paid for, they let me take the van home for regular use. The next day, the door would not close with or without the engine on. We were not home and we could not leave the van in the parking lot or drive home with the door open, with our two young boys in the middle row in their carseats. My husband stood outside with the van for about 15 minutes until the door finally closed and the rear passenger window shattered. The safety of our family was put at risk due to the loose glass shards and due to the fact that the door was no longer functional. The vehicle was inspected by an agent from Louisiana Dealer Services today and they deemed that the broken window and track are due to damage and will not be covered under the extended warranty. There were no warning signs of a broken sensor before, during or after this incident. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 1 | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | Jerks when downshifting and upshifting. Has been a problem since the vehicle was purchased new off the lot. Is dangerous because of the jerking. Also noticed a clunking noise when transitioning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | When I come to a complete stop and the start/stop motor goes into idle mode (shuts the engine down), I have a problem that occurs after it. It is unpredictable but when I come out of the idle and the engine is supposed to kick back on, my minivan stalls out. This has happened in heavy traffic areas and it takes 30 seconds to a minute to get the van to turn back on as the electrical system malfunctions. Big safety issue that can be scary in the moment. There are error messages that come up on the dash including "Collision Mitigation System Problem", "Brake System", and the center console system will restart. This problem doesn't happen when I disable the start/stop motor as it doesn't go into idle-stop mode. I have read through online forums recently and it appears this issue has happened in other Honda models dating back to 2016 models. This is clearly an issue across years/models and needs to be addressed. The local Honda dealership said they haven't heard of this problem and couldn't replicate. Therefore, there was no repair provided. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The passenger side, rear sliding door does not engage in the locking mechanism. It intermittently lacks securely latching. In looking into the door, it appears that the actuator is not engaging properly. Upon researching this for a few minutes, I do see that there were recalls on 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys (as well as other models of Hondas). My car is a 2019 Odyssey. I have called Honda about this issue and they do not acknowledge this recall in regards to my VIN. Service Bulletin 18-128 in Nov. 2018 I do not understand the method used to determine which cars are impacted by the recall, or rather how mine is not (yet) included when I clearly have a faulty door latch which can potentially harm my children and other passengers. The door has automatically reversed from opening to closing halfway through and has come very close to hurting my daughter. Please get me a recall notice/repair notice (online would be fine!) asap so that I can get this taken care of immediately. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2018/RCRIT-18V795-2903.pdf Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN | My van regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership once regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. Not only does this cause performance issues, there have been several close calls when I try to accelerate entering highway or making sharp turns | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission stalled when the vehicle was in drive in the middle of the road. Wouldn't accelerate or move. I put my entire family in the car at risk of 6 people and those on the road as my car completely stopped driving. Went to Honda dealership was told faulty Transmission. They could not cover any of the repairs! It's a 3 year old vehicle with a faulty Transmission. No lights or warnings came up until the Transmission stalled out of no where. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Brought the car in to get fixed for a static issue on the stereo. And it would no longer beep when getting close to a object backing up | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | HI , I am getting mails from HONDA corporate on my vehicle for a faulty rear view camera as per ( Federal motor vehicle safety standard No 111, "Rear visibility " . This was mailed in SEP 2020 and now i received the 2nd notice . I have been chasing up honda dealers ( Honda of Turnersville and burns Honda ) to fix the issue , every time these dealers keep mentioning that they don't have spare parts or remedy to fix the issue. Its been 2 years , So far there is no resolution and i feel these vehicles are not safe on roads while pulling the vehicle back . I have reached HONDA corporate also to register my complaint and they mentioned the dealers have spare parts now , But when i call dealers they always come with story that they dont have remedy to fix the issue from corporates . | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | STRUCTURE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Leak in the fuel system vent line, vent line rupture. Leaking of fuel when car is parked in the Sun. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V438000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the parts had been on back order for two years. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that parts were available and referred the contact to another dealer. The contact contacted a second dealer Germain Honda of Dublin (6715 Sawmill Rd, Dublin, OH 43017) and was informed that parts were still not available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My vehicle had recall 20V-438 issued in September 2020. I recently received a followup letter from Honda informing me that I had not completed this recall. Since the recall was issued, I have attempted to schedule to have the recall completed at every service appointment I've had at my Honda dealership. Every single time (January 2021, July 2021, December 2021, May 2022), I was told parts were still not available. To have a recall open for almost 2 years without a supply of parts available to complete it is extremely frustrating. At this point, Honda should be contacting me when the parts are actually available. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
