Nov 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM For over a year, when ever I press on the gas to accelarate the car stalls and this is very dangerous as it could cause an accident. It is not related to being low on gas as it happens even the the tank if full. The most recent issue happened yesterday. I was on a stop sign, and when I pressed the gas to go, the car moved forward a bit and then it stalled, leaving me on the middle of the intersection about to get hit by upcoming traffic. I was able to press the gas a couple of time and get car moving, but I was about to get him. A few weeks ago, again I had a similar situation. I was at a red light, and when I pressed on the gas, my car stall and wouldnt move, causing everyone behind me to honk their horns. I once again then to press the gas a couple of time for car to move. In addition, a few weeks ago, I was yieling to enter a highway, and when I press the gass to speed up and enter it, the car once again stall and was about to get hit by upcoming traffic. The issue is not related to gas tank, as I just recently had that replace after it suddently rip. Not sure how that happen, maybe another think to consider looking into. When I advised the dealership of such, they said stalling is normal due to type of engine. There is nothing normal of putting your life at risk. This is an accident waiting to happen.

Oct 2023 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE My vehicle suddenly slammed on the brakes with no warning. The “brake” light for the emergency braking system began flashing at the same time the car began a hard brake. It came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection and I had absolutely no control over the vehicle. I was very fortunate that it didn’t cause a collision but it came very close. I don’t see how this is a safety feature, it’s incredibly dangerous. The only way to turn it off is to remember to turn it off every time you start the car. Absurd.

Oct 2023 AIR BAGS Van had srs code on from when bought by original owner. I bought van recently and tried to fix the issue I had the airbag replaced and the error went on a few days later. While looking into the issue I spoke to a few mechanic's who have both seen this issue with other vans with the same make and model. In those cases also it didnt help with replacing the airbags. There seems to be a real issue here but there isnt yet a recall.

Oct 2023 POWER TRAIN The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its ZF 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an EX-L with the ZF 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.

Oct 2023 POWER TRAIN Transmission has completely died. We were traveling on vacation when this happened. Started with very rough gear shifting. Our safety was at risk because random warnings then came up on the screen such as cruise control not working, brake assist. Car would not drive normal. Check engine light never came on. The car was towed to the local honda dealership who confirmed it needs a new transmission. We just purchased this car 3 months ago. They inspected it before selling and stated everything was fine.

Oct 2023 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating. We have to continue to drive 45 mph with the car sounding terrible all the way home. Once home the vehicle somehow resets itself and all of the flashing lights turn off.

Sep 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL When stopped at an intersection, waiting to turn left, vehicle sometimes will not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. If I do a very light acceleration, then let go of the gas, then try to accelerate, it is as if the transmission is in 5 gear or something. After a 3-4 second lag, the vehicle will then seemingly find 1st gear, and will accelerate. As you can imagine this is extremely dangerous if making a left turn and cars are speeding towards me. I push the gas pedal, but the car does not move, meanwhile cars are getting closer to me, and cars behind me are honking. I have taken the car to Honda dealer three times for this issue. Each time they do something to "fix" the problem, and each time, the problem persists.

Sep 2023 EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES I have a 2019 Odyssey Elite and the following lights come on: Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC); Auto high-beam problem (A); Road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot. I also have noticed that at night or in cooler parts of the day the lights do not come on most of the time (have not kept a log of problem yet). One problem could be heat but cooling off with water does not always work. In that case, I lightly tap the camera case with a small rubber hammer (it is locate in front of my rear view mirror), turn the car off and back on, and the lights go out. Water plus tapping works and sometimes tapping alone works. This makes me theorize that the weather (heat in my case but I have seen other say it is cold due to snow) causes the cable/wiring within the camera to loosen (meaning weather [heat or cold] sensitive) cable connectors. Thus cooling with water and or light tapping fixes the problem until the next episode occurs. Who knows it could even be the windshield glass. As I said earlier, there is a black webbing type glass etching around the camera. Some say it is the battery, but I have yet to see a post where changing the battery fixed the problem. When the lights are off, all safety features (mitigation, adaptive cruise control, cruise control) work. I assume auto high beam and brakes system will work also. Forgot to add that when I turn the car off and back on, I have to press enter on the steering wheel a couple of times before the lights go off.

Sep 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE multiple random times lifting foot from brake at intersection car lunges then completely dies. Car is stuck in street and battery light is on. Battery needs to be jumped to get working, battery and alternator test fine, replaced battery with agm battery three months ago and same thing happened today. Luckily tire store was at the intersection and they were able to jump it to get it going, they tested everything and no issues, they had no idea why it would happen.

Sep 2023 LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Over the last three weeks, there were 3 incidents where the emergency braking system spiked the brakes when there was no reason. There was one incident where the lane departure spiked the brakes for no reason. Over the first 5 years owning the vehicle, this never happened. The first incident was going around a curve on a 2-lane road I travel at least twice a day. It sometimes beeps for cars in the other lane, but has never spiked the brakes until now. The car in the other lane was not over the line. There was a car behind us and they almost hit us due to the rapid braking. Incident 2 was on a straght road when there was a right lane closure with orange cones gradually blocking the lane. I started moving to the left lane well in advance and was most of the way in the lane when the brakes spiked. There was no oncoming traffic, but a car behind me had to brake hard to avoid hitting me. Incident 3 was similar to Incident 2, except there was a box in the road. With a straight road and no oncoming traffic, I was fully in the left lane, avoiding the box, when the brakes spiked. The 4th incident involved spiking the brakes with a lane departure warning. I was going around a curve that I travel at least twice a day. The road was clear and no traffic coming the other way. Going around the left curve in full control, the right lane departure warning sounded and spiked the brakes. The brakes had never applied before in a lane departure scenario. I took the van to the dealer and they made it sound normal, like four improper emergency braking incidents in 3 weeks was a regular occurrence. They tried to duplicate the issue and checked the computer for codes, but found nothing. This does not seem normal to me and is a safety issue that could cause an accident if the car spikes the brakes for no reason like this and someone is following closely, not expecting me to stop.

Sep 2023 SEAT BELTS Our 7 year old was sitting in her car seat when the seatbelt lost tension. Turns out the bolt, securing the belt, was never actually bolted in with the proper torque. The lock washer was as good as new, so if it was threaded at all it was certainly not enough to protect a family. As you can see in the picture, the lock washer was never engaged, this should not have been on the road.

Aug 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Under certain conditions, the accelerator pedals fails to provide propulsion when depressed. The most common scenario in which this happens is when leaving a parking area and proceeding onto a roadway, especially if the parking area is elevated above the street slightly. The driver depresses the accelerator pedal slightly to move the car from a standstill, but then releases the accelerator due to the slight downhill, or transition onto the roadway. When the accelerator pedal is depressed again, nothing happens. Often the pedal will travel all the way to the floor with no result. Or sometimes, the engine/transmission "catches" and an abnormally large amount of power results in spinning tires. In any case, this is extremely dangerous, and has nearly caused accidents with oncoming traffic when pulling out onto busy streets. It happens fairly reliably, approximately 70% of the time when depressing the accelerator pedal more than once. I have not sought dealer service on this yet but will be in the coming weeks.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the automatic headlights warning light, the brake warning light, the adaptive cruise control warning light, the lane mitigation warning light, and collision mitigation warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the cause of the failure could be determined. The contact stated that the technician reset the warning lights; however, the failure recurred. The contact concerned that while driving the vehicle a failure might occur regarding the safety of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

Lane Keeping Assist Problem 2. Collision Mitigation System Problem 3. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 4. Auto High-Beam Problem 5. Adaptive Cruise Control Problem In addition, the "Brake Systems" light is on. This issue not only prevents safety features from functioning, but may mask other issues since the "Brake systems" light remains on at all times. The vehicle has recently undergone the recall repair work for the MOST FAKRA Service Cables. No other mechanical issues were detected by the Honda dealership or an independent Honda certified mechanic.
