Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Trunk is not properly sealed resulting in water getting into the trunk and corroding the tailgate control unit, this issue has been reported online hundreds of times. A week after my trunk flooded during heavy rain my car warning lights for the brake system, lane keep assist and several others lit up and wont work, the lights turn on and off intermittently - again this issue is being reported online by multiple owners. This is a known issue Honda refuses to acknowledge or resolve.

Jan 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM - Fuel injectors all need to be replaced - Cylinder misfire on a very new vehicle that should be relied upon - Dealer confirmed fuel injectors need to be replaced. Stated that this is a very common issue "I've seen a million of these". I asked why it would fail so early in the car's life and the dealer stated "problem with the milling process ... small needle like pieces break off and clog" - No - Check engine light came on for "Emissions system failure"

Jan 2024 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM When I start the engine, I switch the gear from parking to drive mode and give it a gas, but the gas doesn't reach the engine the way it should, then after it starts running super fast even if I barely give it a gas, the timing belt is now making a cranking noise. Dealers told me it was an engine problem inside the engine. The dealer mechanic are even very surprised why this happened and after again I took it to other mechanics, and they told me the same thing and also they told me about the recall and after I've seen a recall on Honda Odysseys with different VINs, but my car has the same problem (NHTSA Campaign Number 23V-751). This issue is a manufacturer's issue and my car has 118,000 miles on it. I just bought it six months ago for $37,000 and it's out of warranty. I need help. All the mechanics suggested it has a manufacturing problem including the dealer mechanics, also they advise me to this page to report and get some help.

Jan 2024 POWER TRAIN The van had 75k miles and would lose propulsion on the highway with no warning and no dash light coming on. van would slow way down causing other drivers to hard brake behind us, Then finally go back into gear and drive like nothing happened, couple days later the same thing would happen. We took it to Honda and said the transmission will need to be replaced.

Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Warning lights started being displayed stating that multiple vehicular functions were not working. (Vsa stability, emissions system, brake system, brake hold system, power steering problem) Upon inspection at the dealership I was told it was a fuel injector problem and it was not covered under the recall. The fuel injector is currently on back order and I have been waiting several weeks for a part. The estimate that was given to me was around $1200. I believe this should be covered by Honda

Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Power tailgate problem repeatedly flashed on dashboard but would disappear before it was legible and the car was beeping while driving. We stopped and tried to see what the problem was but it wasn’t until we finally arrived home that it finally showed the full error on the screen. Apparently this drained the battery as well and we had to call AAA the following day to start the vehicle. They tested the battery which was only 2 years old (OEM battery died after only 2 years) and said it was fine. Drive around for 40 minutes and the next day it was dead again. Had it towed to the dealer who after much discussion agreed to replace the battery even though I read online about people having issues with water leaking onto the power tailgate module. The dealer told Me they had to replace the battery instead and the next day called to say that I was right, the battery replacement didn’t solve it. And when they looked at the power tail get module it was indeed corroded from moisture. But they wanted an additional $500 so they could subcontract to an “expert” who could seal that leak. I told them to only replace the module and asked why a recall hadn’t been issued. They said this was beyond their pay grade. I told them I’ll find a way to seal it myself.

Jan 2024 STRUCTURE The automatic sliding door won't close intermittently. When closing the sliding door, it will beep then slide back open, it creates a safety issue when the door will not close. The problem occurred intermittently and sometimes shut the engine off and then restarted the engine to fix it, but this has happened more than 30 times so it needs to be addressed.

Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM On January 2, 2024 I was driving down the interstate the whole dash board electrical system went out and quit working. After a period of time it came back on. Started down the interstate again went out a second time. Afraid to drive it anywhere. Taking it to Lees Summit Honda in Lees Summit MO for them to check it. Thank goodness it was day light. I was really scared and almost wrecked the vehicle. I had my mother and my two young boys in the car.I also looked to see if there were any recalls and there were none.

Dec 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The vehicle listed above with Vin [XXX] often does not takeoff properly. When pressing the gas, it lunges forward as though it did not receive any gas to the engine or the engine stalls, or does not operate correctly. This issue has been addressed with several mechanics, and no pertinent ruling has ever been established as to why the vehicle does this. Dec 2023 UNKNOWN OR OTHER On December 8, 2023 I left my home where the vehicle is parked in a garage to drive to work. About a mile down the road I heard a loud pop and glass was flying off the top of the car. The sunroof of the vehicle had exploded without any direct impact to the sunroof, extreme vibration on the road, or extreme temperature. The car was at about 45 mph and the temperature was above freezing.

Dec 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM On multiple occasions when traveling at a low rate of speed when the accelerator is pushed there is no response for up to 2-3 seconds then the car suddenly accelerates forcefully because the gas pedal has been pushed to the floor with no response. It has mostly happened when we are making a left hand turn and have slowed. Due to the seconds of delay we have been almost t boned and are hesitant to make a left hand turn if there is any traffic because we don't know if the car will immediately accelerate or if it will hesitate. We are able to reproduce it to some extent by accelerating the car to about 5-7 mph, letting off the accelerator and then reapplying pressure to the accelerator. We took the car to the dealership and they reproduced it and contacted the Honda techline who told them it is normal. It has been scary for myself and my wife and does not feel normal for the car to have a complete delay in response and then over respond.

Dec 2023 ENGINE Delay in acceleration. It is an intermittent issue. Noise when gear is changed. Coming from a stop or slow down, pushing the accelerator pedal slightly, the car does not respond. Pushing the accelerator pedal further down the car jerks(responds), accelerates but faster than needed/desired. The accelerator pedal needs to be released, push the pedal again to increase the speed to as needed/desired. Sometimes this results in a loud boom coming from the engine or transmission as if the gears did not engaged previously, but when pushing the accelerator pedal harder. Having searched the internet several people reported the same/similar symptoms. Some people took the car for check up, but no improvement afterward. My dealer could not help me either but offered to check the car out for $ 200 bucks. No engine light is/comes on. This is an intermittent issue, so duplicating does not seem to work. Having worked in maintenance at OCTA, I recall being told symptoms as the above, resulted in changing shifter or transmission or parts thereof.

Dec 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the significant reliability issues I have encountered with my 2019 Honda Odyssey. Unfortunately, these issues have led to inconveniences, unexpected expenses, and a reevaluation of my trust in the vehicle's long-term dependability. During the warranty period, the vehicle suffered from water infiltration in the trunk, resulting in flooding. Addressing this problem required multiple interventions by the dealership. Post-warranty, an electrical/electronic component related to the liftgate module malfunctioned, leading to an unforeseen repair that cost upwards of $800+. Subsequently, the vehicle experienced recurring starting problems, necessitating jump-starts on multiple occasions. Most recently, a complete failure to start occurred, requiring towing to the dealership, which unfortunately happened while away from home. Extensive diagnostics revealed the necessity to reprogram the BCM (Body Control Module) to resolve the issue. The repetitive and varied nature of these issues, especially for a four-year-old vehicle, raises concerns about the reliability and quality standards associated with the Honda Odyssey. These recurring inconveniences and unexpected expenses have compelled me to reconsider recommending this vehicle to friends and family. Of particular concern is the possibility of experiencing a breakdown in remote areas during extended trips. The prospect of being stranded with my family in such situations is troubling and potentially unsafe. Urgent attention to resolving these issues is crucial to avoid any untoward incidents for myself or other Odyssey owners. While I have raised my concerns with Honda, I am also contemplating sharing this experience with the NHTSA. The uncertainty surrounding potential future issues while driving has led me to consider selling this vehicle. I believe it's essential to document these concerns for the safety and awareness of others who might face similar situations.

Dec 2023 POWER TRAIN The car failed to start several times, and then it fell out of drive completely while I was driving down the street with my child in the car. Fortunately I was only on side streets where the speed limit was low because the car just stopped working about five times in one city block. I hate to think what would have happened if I was on a highway at higher speeds. We had the car towed to the Honda dealership closest to us. They handled about 7 different recalls on the van and didn’t at first identify any serious problem as it didn’t abruptly stop when they drove it around their block. However, when I stopped in and described the issue, they test drove it again. They couldn’t get it to start and then it stopped abruptly on them when they drove it a bit more. There is a recall that has to do with seizing up and not starting and stopping abruptly but my local folks say that this seems like a transmission issue and not the issue with the same symptoms that are listed in the existing recall. Could they be mistaken or could these two issues be related since this existing recall is so new that they haven’t alerted owners yet? They still have my car and say that it is not drivable.

Nov 2023 POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly. I am not a mechanic. Therefore, I am not so sure. It's available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Misfire of the car can be a serious issue on the road which put the driver safety at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No

Nov 2023 POWER TRAIN The vehicle's transmission has been continously shifting erratically, where shift intervals do not correspond with engine speed and or vehicle speed. The pattern is so erratic that the transmission causes a very strong jolting or surging motion and loud thudding sound. I have checked on fluid level and found the level within required standards. I bought the vehicle on 7/13/2023. The Dealer never disclosed any transmission issues. I have been observing this issue from 7/18/2023 to the present. It has since, been progressively constant and is a safety issue, where the vehicle could break down when operated in high traffic areas that require speeds up to 65 mph. Collisions due to stalling or surging from this vehicle would be catastrophic and include multiple deaths or injury.

Nov 2023 STRUCTURE The motor that raises and lowers the rear liftgate failed and has been repaired already at a Honda Dealership. The van is not even 5 years old yet and the motor failing caused the lift gate to droop after opening causing my wife and I to bang our heads on it if we weren't watching for it. The more important safety concern is if the liftgate lowers to a certain point, the motor causes it to bounce up and down slightly and then automatically close. My concern for the safety of my young children made me get it repaired promptly. The honda dealership did confirm that the motor failed and it caused strain on the right strut as well need it to be replaced as well. There were no warning lights on dash. This is a youtube link to someone else with the same van and year with the same problem. This is what my van was doing.
