| Sep 2024 | LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Diagnostic is U3000-49: "Multipurpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure. Multipurpose camera internal failure. Camera is overheating and hot to the touch." Honda is saying this is separate from the recall already issued on the camera and will be a $2K repair. Multiple other owners of other 2018 Honda Odysseys reporting same failure. Van running fine, then all of a sudden warning panel lit up with the following warning messages: Adaptive Cruise Control problem Lane Keeping Assist problem Collision Mitigation System Problem Road Departure Mitigations System problem Auto High-Beam Problem Local reputable auto repair shop said it is not safe to drive due to the extremely high temperature of the camera unit. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | We started hearing a metal knocking type noise on start-up and acceleration. We took it to a mechanic who diagnosed it as a rod-bearing problem. Then we took it to the Honda dealership thinking it was related to recall 23V751000 which also deals with 2018 Honda Odysseys, but for some reason our VIN was not included in that recall even though our problem sounds exactly like what is mentioned in the recall. The dealership said we are 6 months out of warranty and would therefore need a new engine. I used one costs $9,000 and a new one would be $22,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | ENGINE | Engine noise, dealer service indicated that its the rod bearings, since I have never ever had this problem on any other car I have owned in 50 years i did a little research and immediately found lots of information and a recall for this problem but my VIN is not included but its exactly the same problem identified in the recall | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the engine seized. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with engine failure. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 93,000 |
| Sep 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | ACC,LKAS,Collision Mitigation System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Auto High Beam warnings. All read problem and do not go away | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Sep 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | There are times especially when first starting the car that pressing the gas does not move the car from a stopped position. There is quite a delay and sometimes a need to turn the car off and back on for the car to move. This can be quite dangerous when stopped and then crossing lanes of traffic as it is unknown when this delay between pressing the gas pedal and the car actually moving may occur. This was reported to Honda service who advised it is normal for this car to have such a delay. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Forward collision warning comes up on vehicle. There is a problem with the transmission. the car automatically shifts itself from D to S. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Failure of the Front windshield mounted monocular camera from overheating causes all advanced driver assistance systems to shut down such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, etc. This is a very common occurrence in not just the Honda Odyssey, but other Honda models as well. A new part can be anywhere from one to two thousand requiring dealer calibration. The heat from the sun, the location of the monocular camera and possible contribution from replaced non-OEM windshields may contribute to the overheating. With all safety devices disabled, the vehicle becomes unsafe to operate requiring immediate attention and dealer only service since a new device requires calibration. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | Several warnings popped up on my dash at once: adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, brake system, auto highbeam, collision mitigation system, and road departure mitigation system. The dealer’s Internet is down for at least several days, so they are not able to troubleshoot the problem. However, an internet search to troubleshoot myself indicates that this is a standing, systemic issue with 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey’s that may warrant a recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE | There is a water leak in the body of the van (where the top and side are welded together). The water has caused damage to the electrical panel that controls the back door/liftgate. The water damage is also shorting out and causing electrical damage and the battery to die very often. I have noticed many complaints about this. I believe this should be a recall because it is a flaw in the making of the vehicle and nothing I could have done to prevent it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My trunk was working anymore. I could not even open it manually. I had a shop that only works on Acura's and Honda's look at it. The control module for the trunk was wet and fried. I dont understand why it was wet in the first place since it was in seal box. This should be a recall on it. Please see attach pictures. I paid $669 to have them replaced it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ENGINE | We encountered a total engine failure while driving down a Montana highway in our 2018 Honda Odyssey. In the car were my partner and I, an elderly person, and a child. We had to wait over 2 hours for a tow truck in extreme heat in a dangerous location. There were no warning indications before the failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | The forward camera sensor used in the 5th generation Honda Odyssey Touring is experiencing high rates of failure, especially in hot weather. This causes failure of the Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Collision Mitigation system, Road Departure Mitigation, and Auto High Beam systems. The part number of the camera is 36160-THR-A72, 36160-THR-A73, or 36160-THR-A74 depending upon the date of manufacture. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I have a 2018 odyssey and have only had it for about 6 months. One of the biggest issues I’ve noticed is when I go to accelerate, the car does not go right away. I have to push down hard on the pedal and the tires spin, resulting in the van lurching then accelerating quickly. This has caused MANY moments of panic as I’ve gone to accelerate to pull into traffic or to drive across a main road and it’s stalled for a moment then lurches into accelerating. I’m a careful driver and have always used acceleration in moderation and try to ease into it. This van does not allow that. You will try to press down on the pedal to slowly accelerate with nothing happening, then it’s like it connects and plows forward. Tires spinning and all. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving 10 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. In addition, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 82,000. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | 82,000 |
| Aug 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Prior to purchasing this vehicle, On the test drive, the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason. The dealer assured me the collision mitigation braking system (“CMBS”) can be turned off, so I bought the car. I then learned that the CMBS automatically turns on every time the engine is turned on. I must shut CMBS off each and every time I start the car, but since my other car is a Tesla (which doesn’t have this problem), sometimes I do forget to shut off CMBS. Through out my almost 7 years of ownership, the car has slammed on the brakes COUNTLESS numbers of times for absolutely no reason at all. Sometimes no cars are behind me, but there have been several times when cars behind me have almost crashed into me due to my faulty CMBS. My elderly mother is in need of a car and I refuse to let her borrow mine because I am scared she will forget to disable the CMBS and get into a crash. I am deeply astonished that with everything that is known about Honda’s CMBS, NHTSA has not taken any action against this dangerous feature. I wonder what NHTSA is getting paid to look the other way. A complete failure of an institution I used to hold in high regard. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | POWER TRAIN,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The vehicle often hesitates to accelerate when pressing the fuel peddle. This mostly happens when backing out of a driveway and placing the gear into drive but also has happened after coming to a full stop and then pulling out. The hesitation lasts about 1-3 seconds and could lead to a collision if I decide to pull out in front of oncoming traffic and anticipate the car to accelerate rather fast. Often, during the hesitation the instinct is to press the gas pedal harder, in which case, when the vehicle does accelerate it will spin the tires, making forward progress even more frustration and dangerous. This happens with both drivers in the family, it is not isolated to just once person's style of driving. This becomes a safety issue if you expect to merge into traffic and the vehicle does not respond. we have adjusted our driving habits in this car to assume it will not accelerate when from a full stop. We have not had a shop verify the condition. No warning lights or messages appear. The car is NOT in ECO mode. Doing a google search for the condition, it does not appear to isolated event. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | POWER TRAIN | I bought new and have 59,000 miles on the car. During the past year or two, when I get to a stop sign and about to cross or turn into a busy road (that has no traffic signs for the cars traveling on that road), the car hesitates when I step on the gas pedal, then after a second or two, the car lurches forward (abruptly) while screeching the tires. My analysis is that there is something about making several complete stops in short succession (as a driver would do in an attempt to inch into a busy intersection of fast moving traffic in order to get a better view and position the car for a smoother merge) which triggers the car to stall for a second or two. I say this because it does not happen at any other types of intersections. The danger here is that a second or two is crucial in avoiding a crash when you are trying to merge into a gap in traffic. Then after hesitation, the car lunging forward in an uncontrolled manner can cause an inexperienced driver to loose control of the vehicle during a turn. There are many similar complaints filed with NHTSA and posted on online owner forums. Many owners have reported to Honda, but Honda’s response is that this is how the car is supposed to drive. NHTSA, where are you? We need help on this | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | the right sliding door has had intermittent malfunction for years. often, the door will not work with an automatic function and must be pulled open or closed manually which is nearly impossible to accomplish. most often the right sliding door malfunction notification appears when driving at highway speeds which is extremely unsafe. this has been inspected by the dealership and no fix or resolution was provided. recently, all of the ADAS systems are intermittently malfunctioning. they work about 1 out of every 5 times the vehicle turns on LKAS, Auto Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, are all affected. within the last week the internal camera system has been failing, audio stops working, and most importantly the rear hatch has been closing on its own while i am standing underneath it loading the trunk. this is also very unsafe, it atleast beeps to warn that it is closing but i sometimes barely have time to get out of the way. yesterday while driving in the highway, two warnings appeared simultaneously for “transmission system problem” and “blind spot notification system error”. the vehicle started again without the transmission system or blind spot error but i am very concerned about the degrading electrical system issues that i have been experiencing with this family oriented vehicle model. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ENGINE | This complaint is related to the recall issued for the fuel pump repairs. The car hesitates when starting from a stop. The hesitation is alarming enough during left turns to avoid on-coming traffic. The dealer and Ameican Honda has been made aware of this. However, the local dealer is refusing to prioritize the repair. The local dealer (Economy Honda of Chattanooga) states that they will prioritize the repairs only when the car comes to complete stop. With this kind of policy of the local dealer, I do not know when the repairs will be done. The car is used to transport four children and the family. Please help getting the repairs done as soon as possible. The safety of children and the family is at stake. This occurs all the time when the car is used. This car had two issues: 1) Fuel pump recall 2) Fuel injector warrantee repairs. Attached is a letter to the dealer about both problems. The dealer has addressed the fuel injector warrantee repair issue. However, they are totally refusing to prioitize the fuel pump repairs unless the car comes to complete stop. The dealer has been made aware of the issue in a letter dated June 20, 2024 written by my father Also, a case has been registered with American Honda in this matter. American Honda is refusing to do anything until the dealer prioritizes the reapairs. Neither American Honda or the dealer are priritizing the repairs and expects us to drive the car under current unsafe condition. Please help. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | STRUCTURE | Dear NHTSA Team, My Honda Odyssey 2018 EX has been having issues with my Driver side Sliding door opening/closing using the Auto power. It was randomly sometimes not fully closing (kept reopening). Then it would get fixed automatically . This was happening for 3+ years . I had got the open recalls done over the years. This week it just stopped opening suddenly . And it was not getting resolved either manually or even after turning ON/OFF car . I took it to Honda Dealership in Dublin, California . They said error code B2049 the left slide door motor and door cable , latch were all faulty. And it would cost about 2500$. This was very expensive and I asked them to just put the door back and they charged the labor cost of 730$. When i look up online I see in forums multiple customers having such issues in this 2018 to 2020 odyssey model. My car hasn't been in any accident and my door is in great condition visually, so it has to be some faulty mechanism with the door as I am first owner and have taken great care of the car. I have records of oil changes, tire changes and other maintenance over the 6 years of ownership. Request NHTSA team to help look into this as it may be some rework during the different recalls to fix the sliding door or a manufacturing issue still not fixed. This can be dangerous as customer needs a functioning door to enter/exit out of Van. | Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Initial issue was that the power tailgate would not open at all. Took the vehicle to the dealership where they replaced the latch and the control unit that was completely fried. When I asked what could cause that, they said they didn't know. I already suspected water. Two days after picking the vehicle up from the dealership, the tailgate is now constantly opening and closing on its own. The only way to stop it is to turn off the vehicle and lock it. I searched online and found multiple posts from people with the exact same problem and almost all of them say it was water getting into the control unit. This poses an obvious safety concern since it could close on one of my kids. They would not be strong enough to stop it. I have reported the issue to Honda HQ and have recommended that the other people with the issue do the same. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | POWER TRAIN | At critical accelerating situations (turning, merging, passing...) the minivan will hesitate, and no power is delivered to the wheels. As a result, the car does not perform as intended and can cause an accident when turning, merging, or attempting to pass. The only resolution is to remove any pressure from the accelerator and allow the car 1-2 seconds to recover, then you can usually accelerate slowly. Sometimes this has happened multiple times in the same accelerating event. This happens on 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys with 3.5l V6 with ZF 9HP transmissions. This has happened multiple times and Honda has failed to correct this issue. This is a known issue and has been part of a class action lawsuit. The most recent incident occured yesterday and the vehicle automatically shifted into Neutral and would no long drive. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
