Nov 2024 ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM My 2018 Honda Odyssey stalls or hesitates when I go from a stop to accelerate. The vehicle will lose all power for 3-6 seconds and when the engine catches up to the pedal, the vehicle accelerates hard, spinning the tires and jerking the vehicle. I've had the vehicle inspected at my local Honda dealership and they've said the vehicle has no open recalls. This includes the fuel pump recall and the engine recall, neither recall has been issued for my vehicle. The results of the inspection was the technician explaining that "the vehicle just does that." My vehicle has not produced any warning lamps for the engine. My vehicle has produced several warnings lamps and warning messages on the infotainment screen about the side doors being open. I've had several instances where the door will not close and or will not open properly.

Nov 2024 ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the engine made an abnormal knocking sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing belt had failed and needed to be replaced. The timing belt was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The dealer determined that the connecting rod bearing in the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the engine needed to be taken apart to perform the repair. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V751000(Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair could not be covered under the recall because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 86,470.

Nov 2024 ENGINE Engine has been “hiccuping” for a few months and making a knocking sound. Brought it to Honda on 3 separate occasions and they “could not replicate” the sound. And said it’s normal. I’ve had 2 non Honda mechanics look at it and they agree it sounds like a rod knock and engine failure is going to happen sooner rather than later.

Nov 2024 ENGINE While driving down the interstate, the engine started to make a loud squealing noise. I pulled over to investigate. Not being a mechanic, I couldn't determine anything. I attempted to start going again and the engine had no power. I was barely able to get it off the highway and we called for help. In the van were me, my wife, and daughter. It was scary with cars and semitrucks driving past us at high speeds. I was concerned. We were able to get the van towed after several hours of waiting. It was a hot day and I had a tick on me while waiting. The van took over a month to repair. The dealership confirmed the cause of the engine failure as the cylinder #2 connecting rod bearing. There were no warning lights when we pulled over the first time. When we started going, the check engine light came on.

Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE Either the engine or something else keeps failing and i completely lose power. I got the car towed back to my house. The car starts but a lot of the time it will keep shutting down while I'm on the road. I went to the dealership twice to get it checked out and they say that they do not know what the problem is and can not guarantee that they can fix the issue.

Nov 2024 ENGINE During the hurricane Milton evacuation my wife and our 3 children suddenly lost power on I75 North in the dark and had to pull to the side of the road with speeding cars flying by in near pitch black. we later discovered that the control rod in the engine is broken according to a Honda dealership and we would need a new engine. The dealership said it is very strange for this to happen with how well it appears to be maintained and that there was a previouse recall on the 2018 and 2019 Honda Odysseys and mine might need to be included however upon speaking with Honda they said there was nothing they could do. Dealership quoted me $9,100.00 for new engine.

Nov 2024 POWER TRAIN,ENGINE At approximately 70,000 miles, vehicle transmission failed after intermittently falling to go into reverse and transmission warning system shifting vehicle down while driving. Rebuild parts not available from manufacturer, replaced transmission with used part. Immediately after putting car back into service, engine began to knock severely. Dealer recommended full engine replacement. Car currently not drivable and has been parked for past 13 months.

Nov 2024 POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Issue-1 High pressure fuel pump in the engine bay (no the fuel pump that was recalled for some VINs) failed at 88000 miles. There was a loud motorcycle exhaust kind of sound coming from the engine bay , which is more audible from inside the cabin than from the engine bay itself. Took it to service center for a 1500$ replacement. Wrote to Honda customer care , but they rejected by claim and goodwill refund saying there is not recall for this item. It is example of poor quality of Honda these days especially with this 2018 Nine speed model. Issue-2 MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. The vehicle doesn't accelerate while moving from a complete stop or turning into a busy intersection , making us prone to big Collison from oncoming traffic. The vehicle lags for 3-5 seconds before it accelerate rapidly. This is an ongoing issue with this model which Honda ignores and is a disaster waiting to happen. NHTSA should look into this and recall all HONDA 2018 9 SPEEED ODYSSEYS to fix this issue. It is been 6 years and Honda comfortably ignoring this safety hazard especially for a vehicle meant for kids.

Nov 2024 ENGINE The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 68 MPH, the vehicle intermittently stalled, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning light was illuminated. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired, and the failure persisted. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and it was determined that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer again and was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.

Nov 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE The front monocular camera (36160-THR-A03) completely stopped working. It is behind the rear view mirror, behind the front windshield. Errors displayed on dashboard indicating lane keep assist, forward collision warning, brake mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, and brake system lights turned on. (99% of the time). On occasion, transmission problem, blind spot detection, AND rear camera cross traffic detection (radar disabled) would also go on (3% of the time). While driving the vehicle on the freeway, the dashboard went completely BLACK for about 3-5 seconds, and I could not see my speed, fuel, odometer, and everything else. It came back on, but that really concerned me. I immediately opened a ticket with Honda Corporate. (Repair Diagnosis Request: 14552995). The root cause was not identified. However, some speculate a failing battery (low voltage) can trigger it. In my case, I replaced the battery first when the symptoms first started, but the issue did not resolve even after driving it 500+ miles. The oddest symptom is something I could not explain. Every Saturday (like clockwork because kids soccer practice), between 12pm-1pm local time (Eastern for me), the issue would go away completely and the camera (and all assistive features) would work completely normal. As soon as I power off/on the vehicle, the issue came back immediately… until the next Saturday. This happened 3 times, 3 weeks in a row. Makes me think there’s a software/firmware glitch. Honda did a goodwill with me and paid 50% of parts and labor. Honda (dealership) confirmed it was a part failure, and replaced the part and all issues went away. Given the front camera issue also affected the rear camera on occasion (cross traffic radar failure), and that part was already recalled, my opinion that when this part fails, it has greater implication to other safety features/electrical system. Due to this also being cost prohibitive, I suspect many will opt to not to fix it.

Nov 2024 ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM The check engine light on my 2018 Honda Odyssey has been on since January 2024. We took it to the dealer (Music City Honda - Mt. Juliet, TN) and they claimed the 02 sensors were bad. We paid $500 to have these replaced, but the light came back on. We then received the recall for the fuel pump module. We have tried twice since May 2024 to get the part under recall replaced but have been told both times that the part is unavailable. The dealer claimed that we could bring it in but if the issue is not determined to be related to the recall, we will have the pay the diagnostic fee. Not only is my check engine light on (it says Emissions System Problem), but my car stalls while driving. This poses a significant safety risk for myself and my family, and Honda is refusing to do their part to remedy the issue at no cost.

Nov 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Driving vehicle on the road, the suite of driver assistance system suddenly failed including LKAS, front collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure as well as brake system light. I took the car to the dealership which indicated the front camera had catastrophically failed. This issue seems to be a recurring issue in all models of odyssey minivans. The issue is well documented in online forums. It should be a safety recall from Honda compared to other recalls on same vehicle. Dealer quoted me $2000 to fix this! HONDA - fix this and issue a recall before there is a lawsuit and someone gets hurt

Nov 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Multiple dash lights warnings (LKAS, forward collision, lane departure, etc.) came up. Brought it to the dealership and was told that this is an electrical camera issue that is overheating, and there is no preventative or ways to keep it from happening. It would cost an upward of $2000 to fix it. This should be part of the recall since it seems like it’s happened quite frequently with the other Honda Odyssey.

Nov 2024 LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Driving vehicle on the road, the suite of driver assistance system suddenly failed including LKAS, front collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure as well as brake system light. I took the car to the dealership which indicated the front camera had catastrophically failed. This issue seems to be a recurring issue in all models of odyssey minivans. The issue seems to appear for recent and older vans and is well documented in online forums. It should be a safety recall from Honda compared to other recalls on same vehicle.

Nov 2024 ENGINE Had about 4 incidences that van completely stalled while driving when coming to a stop. about a week later, was driving the van at approximately 6o mph when it completely shut down, had to pull over immediately to get off road. came to a fast stop. was thankful no other cars were behind us when it happened, feel they would have hit us as the vehicle shut down so quickly. there were no warning lamps or messages indicating any issues. My husband changes the oil/services it according to the manufacturer guidance. Was told by the local mechanic the engine is locked up, would need replaced. Called Honda to report, and since we do not service it at a Honda dealership, they would not assist.

Nov 2024 POWER TRAIN The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while stopped, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated while accelerating. On another occasion, the contact stated that while his wife was driving, the message "Stop Driving when Safe - Transmission Failure - See Owner’s Manual" was displayed. The contact stated that his wife pulled over to the shoulder of the road and parked the vehicle, and the vehicle became difficult to shift out of park. In addition, the contact stated that the RPM occasionally fluctuated and there was a delay with the vehicle responding. The contact also stated that the transmission was shifting hard. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with an internal cylinder failure and that the 9-speed manual transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer several times; however, no failures were diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by the local dealer to assist with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Oct 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Why has there not been a recall on Honda Odyssey's multi camera in windshield - it seems this is happening to many autos. These are ALL Safety issues that should be resolved by Honda. Dealership says it will cost me $2000 to have this repaired. Let me remind you that I had not even made a payment on this auto when the transmission went out while still under warranty. I had not had it a full month when this happened. We are grandparents raising our grandchild, we purchased this automobile for space for carseats and such, thinking it was a very safe automobile. Now many of the safety features no longer work! Not only are we on a fixed income but raising a child is not cheap! Auto High Beam Problem, Road departure Mitigation System Problem,, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Brake System. These are constantly flashing on my dash.

Oct 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM For over a year, my 2018 Honda Odyssey has intermittently hesitated when accelerating, particularly when pulling into intersections or merging into traffic. This hesitation creates a significant safety risk, as the vehicle momentarily fails to respond to acceleration, increasing the potential for collisions in situations where immediate response is necessary. The issue is consistent with symptoms outlined in Honda’s recall (NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-858) involving a malfunctioning fuel pump impeller. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer, who confirmed the issue but indicated that they lack the necessary parts to complete the repair. Despite repeated inquiries, the part remains unavailable, leaving the vehicle unsafe to operate and creating an ongoing safety concern. No warning lights or dashboard messages appear prior to or during the hesitation. The dealer has acknowledged the problem, but without parts, the recall remedy remains incomplete.

Oct 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM When audio system is turned on, a very loud crackling sound occurs, and will continue after audio is turned off. Sirius XM works most of the time (with crackling sound). However, when the regular radio is turned on the audio will work for just a minute (with crackling sound), and then it will suddenly stop working and a message pops up on the display that says "audio connection lost". This also happens when a phone's Bluetooth audio is connected to the car. It triggers the audio system to suddenly fail. There has been other electrical issue with the rear lift-gate suddenly closing, with no way to stop it. It almost pinned my daughter and I on separate occasions. I'm not sure if this electrical issue is related to the audio issue, but as with any electrical issue I worry about the possibility of an electrical fire.

Oct 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER When pressing the accelerator from a stopped position, sometimes there is a need to let off the accelerator and then press it again. There are times when I do this sequence of events and the car doesn’t accelerate but almost seems to stall. Pressing the accelerator does not increase the speed. To remedy, I have been waiting a few seconds before repressing the accelerator to give the van time to shift or whatever it needs to do not to “stall”. This evening particularly, I was turning right on red so I accelerated and then I noticed that the cars on the street I was turning into had started to go so I let off the accelerator. Unfortunately I noticed that I was too far into the intersection and had no choice but to keep accelerating but my van stalled and wouldn’t accelerate when I pressed on the gas for a few seconds. It eventually “caught up” and accelerated but I ended up spinning my tires and “peeled out”.
