| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | My gears shift randomly while driving and every time I do a U turn. | Apr 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | SOS emergency call button doesn't work. Even though button is show green and technical people at dealership said there are no problems. I actually pressed the button and it said the call can't be made. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Metal to metal grinding sounds | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | When the Atlas is cold, there is a weird screeching/grinding sound coming from the drivers side front when I press the brakes while in motion. Car has 12 miles on it. Brought it into the dealer and they say that it’s a known issue with the OEM brakes, but as it “does not cause a safety concern” it’s not covered under warranty. Dealer said that he could replace brakes with non OEM and the problem would go away. Dealer says that it is from “initial brake build-up” but that it is not likely to go away without replacing the brakes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact stated that while at a stop sign and attempting to make a left turn, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed; however, approximately five seconds later, the vehicle responded as intended. The contact stated that the transmission had shifted into neutral and then first gear after several minutes. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 3,997. | Crash: No Fire: No | 3,997 |
| Mar 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | The brakes sound horrible when they are cold. They grind and vibrate until they are warmed up and the car only has 8K miles on it. We are being forced to pay to have the brake pads replaced with ceramic brake pads from the semi-metallic factory ones. We have only had the car 2 weeks. They said VW would cover 70% of the cost, but with the number of complaints, this should be covered completely. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V100000 (Engine); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine cover had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | 2024 Atlas SEL model does not have illuminated controls on the information system below the display. while trying to adjust settings at night it is possible to hit other vehicle functions and potentially get unwanted results that could result in destractions and unsafe driving such as accidentally deactivating the drive assist and driving mode buttons below. VW fixed the issue in 2025 but should issue a consumer convenience recall to fix this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Grinding noise accompanied with vibration and pulsating feel in brake pedal. Fluid movement noises near driver footwell. Cavitation of hydraulic fluid in brake systems can result in corrosion and premature failure of components. Inconsistency in brake feel with pedal vibration has resulted in over and under braking. The problem has been substantiated 3 times by two independent dealers. No warning lights present. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | In the ADAS system, the front camera doesn't turn on when the vehicle is pulled in to a parking space and only the beep sensors are turning on. However, once you put the car in reverse then it gets turned on. It poses a safety concern for pedestrians and other vehicles as well. The problem was reported immediately to the dealer and I was told this is the same across the VW Atlas 2025 line-up. The issue was there from the first day I bought the car (brand new) 2nd issue is the control panel under the display is not backlit and can distract the driver from the road when trying to find a switch at night time and it is too dark to see anything. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | (Question 1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: The front windshield spontaneously vertically cracked across the center half an hour after the car was washed in the shade on a cool day. There were no rock chips which could have caused this. (Question 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The front windshield visibility was significantly impaired. (Question 3)Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? We have not yet taken it to the dealer but there is an indisputable crack. (Question 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. We plan to take the car to the dealership tomorrow to have them inspect it. (Question 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The screen where the back up camera is becomes pixelated and you cannot use the camera. The screen becomes so pixelated that you cannot see anything. This also affects being about to use Apple Play for hands free connect. It will disconnect my phone randomly even when the screen is working. This puts others safety at risk because you cannot see what is going on behind the vehicle. Volkswagen knows about the issues. They have offered several software updates but none of them have helped anything. For a while they were replacing the screens but then found out that only fixes the problem about 50% of the time. I have had the car less than a year and I would like a screen that works all the time. There is no warning lights or really any rhyme or reason why the screen stops working. It works then other times it does not work. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | STRUCTURE | I bought a 2024 Atlas in March 2024. It now has 16K miles on it and it has been meticulously maintained and cared for in that time. In May 2024, my husband and I were driving down the interstate and out of nowhere, the passenger side front door popped open by itself! We took it immediately to the dealership, where they looked at it and said they couldn't recreate the problem or identify what had caused it. We chalked it up to a fluke and moved on. Today (February 21, 2025) it happened again! It was the exact same door, and the exact same scenario occurred: there was a beep, then I could hear air coming in through the door, and it was ajar. This is a HUGE safety issue and I am terrified to continue driving this car, as I have two children and I refuse to put them in danger because of this car malfunctioning. Additionally, in the 11 months I've had this car, this will be the fifth time it is in the shop. It had to go just two weeks ago because it was leaking oil, and now it's also telling me it's low on coolant so I'm afraid that's leaking too. I am at a loss. My main concern is that the door is opening, while the vehicle is in motion, traveling at a high rate of speed, and that poses a huge safety risk not only to the individuals in my car, but all of the other cars near mine as well. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The screens have glitching / malfunction without being able to use the infotainment, backup camera, and clusters. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Extreme screech and scratching upon braking. Constant and well known by other VW owners. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | UNKNOWN Brakes make loud noise and sometimes slip. Feel very unsafe driving the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | AIR BAGS | The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V464000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact called another local dealer, Suntrup Volkswagen (6014 S Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63123) but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | The infotainment system stops working and goes blurry. The dash where the speed is shown goes black. Blind sport monitoring on the passenger side does not work. I almost got into an accident today because of this. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | We purchased our vehicle in August 2024. We only have around 3,200 miles on it. When leaving a space (driveway, parking space, etc), even if only parked for a short time, the brakes have a noticeable screech which I have never had on a new vehicle. The dealership inspected and said there are no issues and they will not replace the pads. They blame the type of pads used by the manufacturer. I have never had this issue on new vehicles whether it is hot, cold, wet, dry, etc. My used vehicle recently had brake pads changed and there are no sounds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The air intake hose connecting the air filter to the turbo intake side disconnected allowing the turbo unit to intake unfiltered air and debris. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Breaks make a loud squealing sound while break both gently or hard. When breaking down an incline the breaks will grind and then slip followed by a urgent grind to hard break. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | We were driving down the interstate with cruise control on. There were no other cars around us thank goodness but the car slammed on the brakes with no warning. If someone had been behind us we would have been rear ended and possibly hurt. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
