| Mar 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V100000 (Engine); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine cover had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Grinding noise accompanied with vibration and pulsating feel in brake pedal. Fluid movement noises near driver footwell. Cavitation of hydraulic fluid in brake systems can result in corrosion and premature failure of components. Inconsistency in brake feel with pedal vibration has resulted in over and under braking. The problem has been substantiated 3 times by two independent dealers. No warning lights present. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | In the ADAS system, the front camera doesn't turn on when the vehicle is pulled in to a parking space and only the beep sensors are turning on. However, once you put the car in reverse then it gets turned on. It poses a safety concern for pedestrians and other vehicles as well. The problem was reported immediately to the dealer and I was told this is the same across the VW Atlas 2025 line-up. The issue was there from the first day I bought the car (brand new) 2nd issue is the control panel under the display is not backlit and can distract the driver from the road when trying to find a switch at night time and it is too dark to see anything. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | (Question 1) What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Answer: The front windshield spontaneously vertically cracked across the center half an hour after the car was washed in the shade on a cool day. There were no rock chips which could have caused this. (Question 2) How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The front windshield visibility was significantly impaired. (Question 3)Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? We have not yet taken it to the dealer but there is an indisputable crack. (Question 4) Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. We plan to take the car to the dealership tomorrow to have them inspect it. (Question 5) Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The screen where the back up camera is becomes pixelated and you cannot use the camera. The screen becomes so pixelated that you cannot see anything. This also affects being about to use Apple Play for hands free connect. It will disconnect my phone randomly even when the screen is working. This puts others safety at risk because you cannot see what is going on behind the vehicle. Volkswagen knows about the issues. They have offered several software updates but none of them have helped anything. For a while they were replacing the screens but then found out that only fixes the problem about 50% of the time. I have had the car less than a year and I would like a screen that works all the time. There is no warning lights or really any rhyme or reason why the screen stops working. It works then other times it does not work. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | STRUCTURE | I bought a 2024 Atlas in March 2024. It now has 16K miles on it and it has been meticulously maintained and cared for in that time. In May 2024, my husband and I were driving down the interstate and out of nowhere, the passenger side front door popped open by itself! We took it immediately to the dealership, where they looked at it and said they couldn't recreate the problem or identify what had caused it. We chalked it up to a fluke and moved on. Today (February 21, 2025) it happened again! It was the exact same door, and the exact same scenario occurred: there was a beep, then I could hear air coming in through the door, and it was ajar. This is a HUGE safety issue and I am terrified to continue driving this car, as I have two children and I refuse to put them in danger because of this car malfunctioning. Additionally, in the 11 months I've had this car, this will be the fifth time it is in the shop. It had to go just two weeks ago because it was leaking oil, and now it's also telling me it's low on coolant so I'm afraid that's leaking too. I am at a loss. My main concern is that the door is opening, while the vehicle is in motion, traveling at a high rate of speed, and that poses a huge safety risk not only to the individuals in my car, but all of the other cars near mine as well. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The screens have glitching / malfunction without being able to use the infotainment, backup camera, and clusters. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Extreme screech and scratching upon braking. Constant and well known by other VW owners. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | UNKNOWN Brakes make loud noise and sometimes slip. Feel very unsafe driving the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | AIR BAGS | The contact owns a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V464000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact called another local dealer, Suntrup Volkswagen (6014 S Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63123) but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | The infotainment system stops working and goes blurry. The dash where the speed is shown goes black. Blind sport monitoring on the passenger side does not work. I almost got into an accident today because of this. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | We purchased our vehicle in August 2024. We only have around 3,200 miles on it. When leaving a space (driveway, parking space, etc), even if only parked for a short time, the brakes have a noticeable screech which I have never had on a new vehicle. The dealership inspected and said there are no issues and they will not replace the pads. They blame the type of pads used by the manufacturer. I have never had this issue on new vehicles whether it is hot, cold, wet, dry, etc. My used vehicle recently had brake pads changed and there are no sounds. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Breaks make a loud squealing sound while break both gently or hard. When breaking down an incline the breaks will grind and then slip followed by a urgent grind to hard break. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | The air intake hose connecting the air filter to the turbo intake side disconnected allowing the turbo unit to intake unfiltered air and debris. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | We were driving down the interstate with cruise control on. There were no other cars around us thank goodness but the car slammed on the brakes with no warning. If someone had been behind us we would have been rear ended and possibly hurt. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | I was sitting in park and the car started shaking and then completely shut down. When I was able to turn the engine back on there was a message that popped up that said Error Drive System: please service vehicle. There was a lit up part of the engine in the message. It took 3 weeks to get into the dealership. They said they could find something wrong or an error code. Something is not right with this car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Error: Transmission displayed on monitor and vehicle will not go into drive. Stranded with 3 little kids and need to call tow truck to take vehicle into dealership. It says you can continue driving but can’t get vehicle out of park. After researching this online it sounds like it is a common problem and could be related to the gear selector switch. I hear no electrical motors or any noise when trying to put it into gear like there is no power going to gear selector motor. Dead in the water and absolutely irritated especially with a car full of toddlers. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Bought a new 2024 VW Atlas Se with 4 miles on it. Around 6700 miles my brakes grinds and squeaks whenever I brake when the pads are cold. Took it to the VW dealership in Capitol Heights, MD. They claimed they cleaned the brakes but the same problem is occurring. From researching the problem it seems many people are having this same problem. VW should be aware of the issues. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I have had 4 chips in my windshield with under 7,000 miles on normal routes I have driven for years with no other vehicles having a single chip. The VW atlas forum I’m on also has several people. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The windshield seems to be made of poor quality. Drives city roads , and the same roads and conditions that i drive my other teo cars but tgis 2024Atlas chipped in tow times alrrady in amonth and this time had a 7-8 icnh crack with a very small chip. This looks unusual mostly caused by low stabdard windshield or issue with how it’s installed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | WHEN BRAKING THERE IS A GRINDING/SCREECHING NOISE Upon inspection found front brake pads to be down to metal damaging rotor i was informed by a mechanic that the issue with the brakes is not normal wear and tear that it is a factory defect coz they are not wearing out equally the right side is worst than the left that in the right side theres no brakes anymore deañer says i have to pay for it i dont understand why if my truck is new and it is not a normal wear and tear | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | I have a 2024 Volkswagon Atlas and right now my screen is completely not working. Everything is functional through the screen for controls as well. I can't even control the thermostat. This has become a safety issue as my windows are icy in the morning and I cant turn the defroster on. The service department at the dealership won't look at the car because they said it is a known issue and Volkswagon is doing a system update. I was told to hold the power button down for 10 seconds to reset the screen but even that is not working at all. Warning lights come up constantly as well. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | Horrific screeching sound while braking. Braking when going down slight hill grinds and drags when braking. Brake sound occurs after car stops in addition to the grinding screeching sound during braking. Took vehicle in to VW and they report brake pads are 8mm and no issues found but stated there is a defect in the composite of this models brakes and will notify once they get more information. This is absolutely unacceptable and unsafe. Why should I be driving a brand new car with these sounds?? The embarrassing sound and lack of braking is a severe concern. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The display which provides all vehicle information as well as guidance malfunctions (pixelates). Volkswagen acknowledges a faulty display chip is the cause. The dealer has updated software and even replaced the display with no success. I notified the dealer about the replaced display and he advised the VW has stopped the display replacement process. This means that potentially all 2024 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles are suspect. Without vehicle data accessible and no navigation available this distraction has created a hazard for driving on at least 2 occasions. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | error with drive system was caused by engine overheating. maneuver braking function triggered and faulty throttle body issue discovered. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
