It immediately turn right into the post instead of pulling straight out first. I had very little reaction time. If there had been a person in the position of the post, this could have caused physical harm. My vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger door, its side mirror, and to the PPF material over these components. Upon receiving the vehicle, I noticed manufacturing defects on the tail lights, which I reported to Tesla Support immediately and scheduled an appointment on September 29. Unfortunately, no appointments were available at that time, and my service date was postponed to October 28, 2024. On [XXX], while traveling at low speeds, the rear passenger tire of my vehicle unexpectedly exploded. They are the factory-installed Continental tires 255/45/19. The car had to be towed to Tesla in Coral Gables, where they installed a temporary tire and quoted me $517.35 for replacement—despite the vehicle being less than a month old. Since delivery, I’ve also observed that my tail lights have accumulated water, indicating a potential safety hazard and manufacturing defect. I have contacted Tesla Support on multiple occasions, but they have not provided clear guidance on whether a loaner vehicle will be provided while these issues are addressed. The lack of timely and effective support for these escalating defects has been extremely frustrating and concerning. Primary Concerns: Safety hazards related to the tire explosion and water accumulation in the tail lights. Delays in service appointment scheduling. Lack of clarity and support from Tesla regarding service procedures, such as whether a loaner vehicle will be provided. | Oct 2024 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | #Issue Description I experienced an issue with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system when a trailer hitch was attached to my vehicle. From what I observed, the FSD system appeared to detect the trailer hitch as an object in close proximity to the vehicle. This caused the vehicle to accelerate rapidly to the FSD maximum speed of 85 MPH, regardless of the road conditions or posted speed limits. This issue occurred when the lane markings were visible, but the hitch obstructed the rear camera’s view. On the FSD display, this obstruction was represented as a persistent “cloud” following the vehicle. I attempted to adjust the maximum speed limit manually to mitigate the acceleration, but this did not prevent the behavior. Each time I engaged FSD, the car would accelerate rapidly, even in situations where such high speeds were not appropriate for the road conditions. # Steps Taken to Resolve the Issue I covered the rear camera, which allowed FSD to function normally and prevented the rapid acceleration. The “cloud” visualization on the FSD display also disappeared once the camera was covered. # Trailer Mode Tesla offers a “Trailer Mode,” but I did not enable it since I was only using a hitch without towing a trailer. | Oct 2024 | WHEELS | I have had this car since May 2024 and the current mileage on the vehicle is 7,130 miles. In the past few weeks, I have had to completely replace both rear OEM aluminum alloy wheels due to cracks caused by normal road driving, which caused both rear tires to go flat. Per Tesla, this costly replacement is not covered under their warranty. I am now learning that this is a common issue with these particular wheels on this particular model (Model Y Performance). It appears the aluminum alloy wheels are simply not sturdy enough to bear the weight of the vehicle and the required tires simply do not provide sufficient cushioning to prevent wheel cracks resulting from normal wear and tear/road driving. Many customers have had to replace the OEM wheels with aftermarket wheels made of forged steel. These customers report zero issues with the much stronger wheels. | Oct 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I have had multiple incidents of “phantom braking” when using traffic aware cruise control and auto steer. It usually happens on one lane state highways with opposite direction traffic, sometimes with turns or hills. The vehicle has slammed on the brakes without warning, sometimes the warning tone also sounds. Each time there was absolutely no danger, nothing abnormal. On a couple occasions there was traffic behind me, and it must have scared them. They probably thought it was a hard brake check. If I wasn’t able to quickly over ride the braking with the accelerator it very easily could have caused an accident. On two occasions my pregnant wife was in the car and it scared her very much. I am personally afraid to use it now, knowing it’s going to slam on the brakes is nerve wracking and UNSAFE. Tesla does not seem to care about addressing the issue, rather putting all eggs in the “full self driving” basket instead of improving this very obvious safety defect. From reading online forums it seems to affect just about everyone. I’m hoping their engineers address it and they release a software update correcting it, but as mentioned above it doesn’t seem to be on their list of priorities; the problem has been happening for several years now and has resulted in at least one known fatality. Later the same day beta did not recognize a turn lane into my community but rather proceeded straight. I have since disabled the beta FSD. I was in what Tesla calls Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) at the time and quickly brought the car out of TACC and hit the accelerator to get me back up to speed so I didn't pose a danger to other drivers on the highway. I dont know exactly how much my car slowed, but it was enough to throw me forward in my seat. There were no vehicles in front of me at the time. No car was in front of me, in fact nothing at all was in front of me when my car slammed on the brakes 4 separate times. One time there was a car somewhat close behind me. Many cars were ahead of me due to the school drop-off rush, with parents and kids lined up in the parking lot waiting to leave. While I was waiting, the Tesla unexpectedly accelerated on its own, but I managed to hit the brakes just in time to avoid colliding with the car in front of me. A few seconds later, my car suddenly accelerated again without any input from me. I tried to steer away from the cars in front while repeatedly pressing the brakes, but they weren’t working. All I could think about was avoiding hitting another car or person, so I swerved the car toward the building in the parking lot. The impact was hard, and the car finally stopped, but the airbags didn’t deploy. I’m deeply shaken by the incident; I could have seriously injured someone or even worse. When I got home, I discovered that this issue is a known problem with Tesla, yet they’re placing the blame on drivers. Having never been in a car accident before, this experience has been overwhelming. As a mother and attorney, I believe it’s crucial to examine this situation more closely. Tesla controls the data, and it’s clear that responsible drivers wouldn’t suddenly veer into a building in a crowded parking lot without cause. This has been dangerous because the wipers will smear material across the windshield at the wrong times creating a visibility hazard. It almost caused a wreck where it activated smearing the windshield while the sun was directly ahead. Tesla’s response was the auto wipers are in Beta mode and I should turn them off to keep them from randomly coming on. The contact stated that several weeks after purchasing the vehicle, a neighbor informed the contact that a tire was flat. The contact attempted to pump air into the tire; however, the air immediately seeped out. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the tire was replaced with the same brand tire. The contact stated that almost a month later, the tire pressure indicator light appeared on the infotainment screen while the contact's wife was driving the vehicle. The contact was called to the scene and attempted to inflate the rear passenger tire; however, the air seeped out of the tire. Upon inspection, the contact discovered multiple cracks along the inner sidewall which caused the tire to peel. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic where the vehicle remained. The vehicle manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the tire manufacturer. The tire manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that a tire representative would need to inspect the tire. The vehicle was not repaired.
