| Jul 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The Start/Stop function on the Honda Odyssey failed to re-start the vehicle after it was stopped at a traffic signal. The vehicle gave no advance notice of the issue. The vehicle defaulted the transmission into the "Park" position, however the electronics (radio, windows, etc.) all operated as normal. Simply pushing the ignition "On/Off" would do nothing and would NOT turn off the electronics. I had to press and hold the "On/Off" ( similar to a Ctl+Alt+"Delete") to hard shut off the vehicle entirely. I then had to place the key fob physically on the "On/Off" button to restart the vehicle. This is a significant safety concern being at a dead stop at a stoplight that may be green. We have had our van to the Honda dealer twice now within 3 weeks for the same issue. They cannot get it to duplicate any issues. The original diagnosis was that we had a loose ground connection at the battery. The battery, alternator, and starter were all diagnosed as in perfect working order. The tech tightened the loose ground, but the issue has not been resolved. There were zero warnings that there was an issue with the start/stop function. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | My 2024 Honda Odyssey has repeatedly failed to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shuts the engine off at a red light. When I release the brake or press the accelerator, the engine does not restart as it should. The vehicle then shifts into Park or instructs me to place it in Park, and it is difficult to restart using the start button. This has left the vehicle disabled in an active traffic lane and creates a serious risk of being struck by another vehicle. I have been stuck at a red light with people honking at me and haven't been able to start the car for up to a minute. The problem is intermittent, and I do not know whether it is caused by the engine, electrical system, battery, starter, software, or power train. The Auto Idle Stop system should not shut the engine off if the vehicle may be unable to restart. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | ENGINE | Several times the vehicle has turned off due to the auto on/off and did not restart. No warning. This happened two times at intersection near school with multiple children in the vehicle. Vehicle was not able to restart immediately. Changed to a new agm battery and still does not work. Trouble starting. Slow starting and combined with auto on off this is a dangerous disaster of vehicle | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | POWER TRAIN | The vehicle failed to re-start after being engine had been at full operating temperature then was turned off for a short period of time. It has also struggled to re-start with auto start/stop leaving the vehicle partially in a busy intersection without any engine power until it successfully turned over several seconds after releasing the brake pedal. The dealer is unable to replicate. They have tested the starter and battery and confirmed both test good at ambient temperatures. No warning lamps. Once the vehicle cools, it is able to re-start again. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The vehicle has an automatic stop/start feature that is enabled by default, though there is a button readily accessible to deactivate the function easily ea. time the vehicle is operated. The vehicle has just had the starter replaced under warranty @ 25K miles. There have been issues with the vehicle struggling to start for at least six months now - rough, slow starts where the engine is struggling to turn over. If I forget to turn off the auto-start/stop function, the engine will sometimes shut off at a red light - but it won't turn on again when the light turns green and it's time to move. I have had this happen a handful of times in traffic - the engine turns off and will not restart when normal procedures are followed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | ENGINE,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | While driving in normal traffic, when I come to a complete stop and keep my foot on the brake, the Auto Idle Stop system activates as designed. However, when I release the brake to continue driving, the engine intermittently fails to restart properly. Instead, it repeatedly attempts to restart, cycling on and off several times before shutting down completely. When this occurs, the vehicle becomes disabled in traffic and does not respond as expected. It can take multiple attempts and a significant amount of time before the engine finally restarts, leaving me stranded in intersections or in moving traffic. This creates a serious safety hazard because surrounding vehicles continue moving while my vehicle is unable to move. This problem has occurred multiple times under normal driving conditions and is not an isolated incident. During one occurrence, the vehicle failed to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system activated, leaving my vehicle disabled in traffic. As a result of this incident, my vehicle was involved in a collision that **damaged the front and back bumper**. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, but the incident clearly demonstrates the significant safety risk associated with this defect. The vehicle is currently at an authorized Honda dealership for diagnosis and repair. I am submitting this complaint because a vehicle that unexpectedly shuts down and fails to restart after Auto Idle Stop activation presents a serious safety hazard. I am concerned that this defect could lead to additional crashes, property damage, or serious injuries if it is not corrected. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Had to replace starter at 29,000 miles due to auto stop/start prematurely wearing out component. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | STRUCTURE | Water leak, which could fire the taillight lamps. Happening to lot of Honda odessey models. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The car fails to start when coming out of the idle start/stop feature. This has happened at least 3 times to my family. When it occurs it takes ~1min to restart the vehicle and can occur in an intersection. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Yesterday my 2024 Odyssey auto stop engaged and the car wouldn’t restart in the traffic light. I had to turn the car off and try twice before it would restart. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The vehicle is experiencing an Auto Idle Stop (AIS) failure to restart from a complete stop. The engine dies, the electrical system resets, and it requires a manual button push or jumpstart to get moving again | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | After stopping at a red light behind a few cars in a left turn lane, the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system turned off the engine. A moment later the light turned green and I let my foot up from the brake pedal. The engine failed to start. The hazard lights turned on automatically. I reapplied pressure to the brake and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button, which had no effect. Electrical systems remained active (i.e. the car did not turn off completely), but the engine also didn't start. I ensured the vehicle was in park and stepped out to verify the fuel door was closed (I had just filled the tank) and check the battery connections. Cars were going around us on the passenger side, and oncoming traffic was very close to me on the driver's side. I was concerned for myself and my passengers. No one was injured, nor was there a collision. After returning to the driver's seat, I tried the Engine Start/Stop button again. This time the car shut down. I waited a minute, then started the car. The engine started successfully. The vehicle is available for inspection. The problem has not been reproduced. We have been disabling AIS since the incident, so it's unlikely to happen again. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center, nor has it been inspected by anyone yet. I noticed the engine being slightly slower to restart after AIS stopped it in the few weeks leading up to the incident. There were no other symptoms I noticed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | When driving with or without the cruise the word BRAKE appears and the van taps it breaks automatically even when there is no reason to do so. There is no vehicle in front or anything on the road to be detected. It occasionally happens when there is a vehicle in the oncoming lane, but happens more often when there are no other vehicles close enough to be detected or cause me to need to slow down. It has been happening for some time now, but I did not know how to report it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The auto idle stop on this specific vehicle has left me stopped in traffic numerous times. If left on, it frequently will cause the car to turn off when attempting to start from a stop at a intersection, causing a back up or near collision in some instances. It takes 5 - 10 seconds minimum to recognize what has happened, shift to park (if the vehicles allows, which sometimes does not), and restart the car. This being said, I have other Honda's with the same function, and all work normally (as expected), turning off the car when stopped briefly, and starting immediately upon letting off the brake or pushing the gas. -It's only this 2024 Odyssey with this issue- I have spoken with other owners of the same year model and have had the same complaint. The mechanics at the dealership have even said that it is a known issue with this model year, but that Honda has not fixed. This vehicle has been to the delearship at least 3 times to attempt to fix. A new battery was also not a solution. The issue continued after replacement. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | STRUCTURE | My wife and kids were driving down the highway when the moonroof spontaneously exploded. It made a loud popping noise and glass rained down on my wife and two young kids. No warning signs at all. Luckily everyone is safe but this did cause some traumatic. We do feel uncertain about moonroofs now and are considering a different vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Last week, I opened my vehicle door and noticed water standing in the foot well. I didn't think too much of it until I started driving down the street and gallons of water were gushing on my feet in the footwell from behind the steering wheel and fuse box. I parked and waited for it to dry out a few days. I took my vehicle to the dealer and was shocked to hear that this is caused because the sunroof has a drainage system, and when the primary drain clogs, due to pollen or dirt, the secondary drain drains directly into the driver footwell. They advised that this is an issue that disregards vehicle age and sunroof non-use. Because this is a new vehicle, all of my basic maintenance and inspections have been provider by the Honda dealer. I asked why this had not been inspected on my previous service appointments and was told the primary drain for the sunroof can only be inspected by camera. It is only when the primary drain becomes clogged that the water dumps into the driver side footwell. I searched my owner manual and found nothing to indicate or require that the primary sunroof drain should be inspected, cleaned or serviced, at any of the maintenance intervals, and especially not during the first 2 years of ownership. The steering column, fuse box, and driver footwell house all of the necessary electrical and mechanical parts for steering, braking, acceleration, lighting and all other electrical systems controls. Additionally, if this were to happen while driving, the distraction to the driver could be catastrophic. My vehicle has been at the dealer for a week to clear the clog in the primary sunroof drain, remove the seat and carpet to dry, & inspect the electric systems including the power seat. I can make the vehicle available for inspection as needed and the dealer can provide the camera inspection that diagnosed the issue. This happened due to everyday dust and pollen, and there was no advance warning that this drain failure was imminent. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | Automatic start stop completely turns off car when pulling up to a stop sign, light, or yield intersection. Car completely turned off and wouldn’t start on a bridge overpass causing a safety hazard. Took a solid minute for it to restart. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Since purchasing my 2024 Odyssey EX-L I have experienced on multiple occasions where the idle stop engages but upon releasing the brake the vehicle fails to restart, dash lights up and vehicle is shifted automatically into park while sitting in traffic and vehicles moving all around me as well as honking as I am unable to restart the vehicle immediately. I have to push the start button multiple times before the vehicle will restart. Dealership is unable to replicate issue so I just started turning it off. Now the idle stop/start doesn't engage at all even after driving for hours. Additionally the vehicle is very slow to start especially if I have had to start the vehicle a different times throughout the day. I took the vehicle back to the dealer and they diagnosed it with a bad starter at only 38K miles which is of course out of warranty. Not only is this a safety issue of the vehicle stalling in traffic but Honda is failing to recognize a well known issue with the starter in this particular vehicle, sticking consumers with hefty repair bills for a manufacturing issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On 3 separate occasions, I have been at a stop light where the auto stop kicks in. When I release my foot from brake, it should auto start. Instead, it stalls out. This is a huge safety issue and has caused cars behind me to get angry and honk. If someone wasn't paying attention, this could cause collision easily. The battery seems fine, and even if it wasn't, shouldn't the battery life be considered when the feature is triggered? I will be taking it in to get serviced, but I'm very frustrated. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | For the past year, the vehicle's Auto Idle Stop system has intermittently failed to restart the engine after coming to a complete stop at traffic lights. This creates a dangerous situation where the vehicle is immobilized in active traffic, posing a significant risk of rear-end collisions or other accidents. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership for service; however, they were unable to duplicate the issue and declined to perform further repairs. As the problem remains unresolved, I am reporting this incident to the NHTSA to contribute to the official record of safety concerns regarding this feature in Honda vehicles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The car will lose power while sitting at a red light. The dash lights up and you can't do anything. You have to turn it off and back on and hope no one hits you in the meantime. This has happened twice now. I bought it brand new, serviced regularly and has 16k miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | My 2024 Honda Odyssey EX-L has a recurring Auto Idle Stop failure. About 1–2 times per week, when stopped at a light and Auto Idle Stop engages, the engine fails to restart properly when I release the brake. The engine sputters or shuts down, the battery warning light comes on, and the vehicle shifts itself into Park. I then have to hold the start button for several seconds to restart the engine. This creates a safety risk because the vehicle becomes disabled in active traffic when the light turns green. The vehicle was previously taken to a Honda dealer for this issue, and the battery was replaced, but the problem continues. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | See attached document for complaint. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | 2024 odyssey sport vin [XXX] in the drive through lane at a reataurant activated the auto start stop feature and shut off the van. The van did not restart when trying to move foreward again and had to cycle the starting ignition system via placing van in park and pressing the start button. Taking the van to the hennesey honda dealer in woodstock ga for inspection. | Apr 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My car is experiencing the starting issue that is listed as auto start/stop feature. However, since I almost always have the AC on or start/stop disabled because the car will not start when hot after a few stops and was scared it would do it in traffic. So far I can get it started again but need to completely turn car off and try again, sometimes more than once. Had been going on for a year and the dealer has replaced battery then the next services said nothing wrong. Now the car is out of warranty and the starting issues getting worse and have finally found online that others are experiencing similar issues. I have forgotten to turn off start/stop a couple times and been stranded in traffic as well when car auto stopped at red light and did not restart causing me to be stuck until i could get it restarted. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
