294 consumer-submitted complaints are matched to this model year. Treat the count as a research signal, then read the actual summaries for repeated symptoms.
The most common categories are engine, power train, engine and engine cooling. Use those categories as a test-drive checklist instead of judging the vehicle from the total count alone.
Enriched records include 4 crash reports, 0 fire reports, 6 injury reports, and 0 fatality reports. These fields come from complaint records and should be read in context.
Mileage is available on 40 complaints, with an average reported failure mileage of 21,176 miles. Compare that with the mileage on the listing.

| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS,VISIBILITY/WIPER | Intermittent problems with various systems freezing up or not working: Windshield wipers freezing for several seconds mid-wipe. Nearly caused accident. Heads up display not retaining settings Seat controls (bladders that inflate deflate) intermittently working/infotainment screen freeze (where seat control is displayed). Lane departure warning inconsistently working (beeping) Radio quits playing for several seconds and screen goes dark Blinker stops blinking and then re-starts 6.2L engine slow/rough idle continuously hunting for stable speed (This is the only problem that is NOT intermittent). At times almost dies. A/C unit stuck on "hot" delivering 92 degree air when outside 72 degrees. Temp set at Low. (No A/C just trying to get fresh outside air in). Vehicle was under recall and control modules "reflashed" before purchased (new). Dealer reflashed which did not solve problems. Dealer cannot duplicate (but they only spend a little time looking at the issue). Has been in shop off/on for about 2 weeks attempting to resolve. Issues on occasion still occuring since Mid October 2024 purchase. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | On 12-26-24 the transmission on my vehicle failed suddenly going down the highway. Driving down the road a jerking motion and then all of a sudden the vehicle would not shift gears. Luckily the road wasn’t crowed because all of a sudden the vehicle slowed and would not accelerate. If someone had been following me there was no break light indicating I was slowing down. When I returned home I discovered I didn’t have reverse either. If I was in a place I needed to back up I couldn’t have. I took the vehicle into the dealer the same day and they diagnosed the problem was in the transmission. They ordered the part but it isn’t available and don’t know when it would be available. This leads me to think there must be many other transmissions with the same problem as mine. In my case there was no accident but if it had been on a congested highway there could have been. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | On December 26th 2024, I was travelling 5 mph or less while pulling into a parking space at a restaurant. As I let the steering wheel return to center, my hand hit the Resume button on the left side of the steering wheel and the vehicle immediately began to accelerate. I was able to step on the brake to prevent the vehicle from hitting the wall of the restaurant. The next day on December 27th, 2024, i was able to duplicate the problem. I had set the cruise at 55 mph before I came to a stop at a traffic light. I released the brake and pressed the Resume button and the vehicle immediately accelerated from a dead stop. I've been an automotive mechanic for over 30 years and I've never seen this happen before. It's my understanding that vehicles wouldn't engage cruise control unless the speed was over 35 mph. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | On December 13th 2024, I was unable to drive my truck in reverse. I put the truck in neutral and pushed it out of its parking spot. I was able to drive the truck to the GMC dealership for diagnosis. On December 19th, I received a call from the dealership and I was told the transmission valve body was bad. I called on January 2nd 2025 for an update on the repair and was told the valve body was on backorder and they had no ETA on the Part. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Failed transmission; needs valve body replacement but part is on national back order. Vehicle has been at dealership since 11/12/24. Almost 2 months and no eta when part will be in. Dealership did offer loaner after first 3 weeks. Vehicle is available for inspection, no safety issues as the problem occurred in driveway at home. If the problem had happened on the highway though, there would definitely have been some safety concerns. No prior warnings or symptoms. The problem has been confirmed by the dealer and was approved as warranty work. A recall should be issued. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Tailgate opened unexpectedly while I was pulling a trailer. Damaged tailgate. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On 2 occasions now my tailgate has opened on its own. The first incident happened sometime after I got home from work for the night, when I went to leave in the AM my tailgate was resting on the garage door and had been scratched. The second time it happened I didn’t notice it while driving but when I went to close the garage door I looked back and saw the gate was open and partially sticking out of the garage. Nothing happened this time to put anyone at risk however there is damage to the truck and if it happened while hauling something could have come out and hurt someone or damage property. I have not brought it to a service center yet. No warning | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | STRUCTURE | As I was driving on the highway the upper top moulding from the grill came off causing scratches to the hood. This is dangerous if it flies off into the windshield. This has been an issue for GMC. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Truck thinks I’m about to run into something and slams on its brakes. Last time it sent my sister to the hospital to get 6 staples in her head. Digital cluster goes on and off as well as the infotainment center. Transmission bangs and shifts horribly. 900 miles on the truck with a check engine light and transmission warning. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 1 | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The reverse or backup lights do not properly illuminate, as the angle does not allow for viewing dangers behind at night. The lights are angled to aim way too high, and the lights are aealed. No way to adjuat. An adult standing just three to five feet behind truck, the lights illuminate at chest level, meaning a small child could not be seen at all, even with the rear view camera. Speaking of the camera, it not longer displays low light situations. People are going to be injured or killed because of these lights, or lack thereof of. On researching, this is a known defect since GMC went to LED tailings in the 2024 1500. This problem was not in my 2024 3500 as they use different lights. This is a dangerous situation. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | See attached document for complaint. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Power sliding window leaking water. Available for inspection upon request. Leaking water can lead to mold posing in the vehicle leading to a health concern. Problem was inspected and verified by dealer and initial service bulletin repair was made to apply vehicle sealant to the top of the window. Window still leaked after the initial repair. Dealer planning to replace the entire rear window. This appears to be an issue with multiple years of GMC and Chevrolet trucks with sliding rear windows. No warning lamps associated. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SUSPENSION,AIR BAGS,WHEELS | The contact owned a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while his wife was driving at 50-55 MPH, the front passenger side tire detached from the vehicle, and the front passenger side was damaged. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. His wife sustained injuries to the neck and shoulder which required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed from the scene and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. The contact stated that the ball joint, hub bearing, and 4x4 drive shaft were damaged. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 1 Medical attention | Unknown |

The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power with the message "Engine Power Reduced" and the vehicle was unable to accelerate above 5 MPH. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure or provide a diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 9,000 |
| Nov 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Illumination for the rear view camera is insufficient, making the camera useless for rear visibility in dark conditions. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument panel went dark, and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact immediately drove to the dealer and the vehicle was diagnosed. The dealer retrieved a DTC code for power steering failure. Additionally, the contact was informed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the repairs were completed another time; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 10,200. | Crash: No Fire: No | 10,200 |
| Nov 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission shuddered. The contact stated that the shuddering was severe, causing the transmission to seize. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was identified, and the contact was informed that the transmission fluid needed to be flushed and refilled. The transmission fluid was flushed and refilled; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle remained at the dealer for three weeks and a loaner vehicle was provided; however, the vehicle experienced the same failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 4. | Crash: No Fire: No | 4 |
| Nov 2024 | POWER TRAIN | Called multiple dealerships and found out there is a known problem with the valve body for the transmission in these vehicles, which mine is currently being towed today to the dealer. This is what happened to me today, I was driving with my two children on the interstate and all of a sudden I had no drive nothing so the speed reduced quickly. Well behind me there was a 18 wheeler on my back and almost ran into me because I had no more drive on my pickup. Then when it was safe to pull to the side of the road found out there is no reverse either. Making it even more unsafe to drive these vehicles. If I need my reverse to back my vehicle out of on coming traffic’s I would not be able to do so. But this is the big kicker, this valve body for these vehicles are not being produced by gm. The multiple dealer ships that I called have said all the same thing, this is an extreme safety issue that should be recalled. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Stereo is stuck frozen, and random bursts of loud music | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | ENGINE | Exactly what was described in the N192220080 Recall on New Model 2019 Chevy Silverados in cold climates (Like Utah winters) so at 45,280 miles the oil line popped out just like the recall described There were no oil leaks or signs of oil loss in the driveway where the truck is parked. My [XXX] wife (The owner of this vehicle) was only 6 miles from our house on the way to a doctors appt when the “Oil Pressure Low Turn Vehicle Off” light came on. Luckily she wasn't on the freeway so was able to pull into a neighborhood where all of the oil shot out of the engine due to the oil cooler line detaching. Since the N192220080 excluded other trucks made in the same factory as the once recalled in Alaska & Canada, we received no warning of a potential issue like this existing for this model of Silverado. It is also concerning that a known faulty part in all New Model 2019 Silverado 1500s was only recalled in Alaska & Canada. But if we had purchased this truck and registered the vehicle in Alaska, it would have at that point qualified for the free recall replacement instead of the $1,600 bill we were blindsided with (Plus, if she was on the freeway and couldn't immediately pull over, we would have had a seized engine so the truck would have been nearly totaled) INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The reverse lights and high-definition camera system are woefully insufficient for backing up this truck safely in the dark. I have experience several near-misses due to the poor nighttime performance of the video system and reverse lights. This has been ongoing since the vehicle was purchased new. It impacts both the video displayed in the main touchscreen and the video rear view mirror. Furthermore, the reverse lights are sealed LED units that are non-serviceable. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The Backup Camera is worthless. You cannot see at night to back up your vehicle. Only can see Dark and Red Spots. Impossible to see what is behind the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I BOUGHT THIS 2024 GMC SIERRA NEW IN FEBRUARY OF 2024. I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERAL PROBLEMS. MAINLY THE BACK UP CAMERA WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE HAD MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALER 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC TO INITIATE A BUY BACK. I HAVE HAD THE ENTIRE INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM REPLACED AND AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS. MY TRUCK GOES INTO THE DEALER, LUTHER BROOKDALE GMC, AGAIN 0CTOBER 17TH, 2024 FOR THE 6TH TIME. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM FOR OVER EIGHT MONTHS I HAVE VIDEOS IF IT WOULD DO ANY GOOD. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | 10/9/24: All interior vehicle sounds (turn signals, hazard lights, parking warnings, collision warnings, etc.) along with the audio sound system, are audible in my vehicle via the vehicles’s audio system speakers. For reasons unknown and without warning, all interior vehicle sounds and the audio sound system cease to make audible sound; however, the infotainment display screen and the instrument cluster screen continue displaying normally and appear to function properly (system still accepts touch screen inputs and visibly displays volume knob input adjustments). So, in summary, a disconnect occurs between the infotainment system / vehicle audible warnings and the vehicle’s speakers, through which the sounds emitted. We purchased our 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 as a brand-new purchase on 9/30/24 and it is completely stock, with no post-purchase or aftermarket alterations having been made to the vehicle. This issue has occurred on two separate occasions since the purchase date, with the occurrences happening on 10/8/24, and once on 10/9/24. When this sound-disconnect issue occurs, it will last indefinitely until we remedy the issue. The only remedy for this issue that has worked thus far requires that we completely shut the vehicle down, wait a few minutes, and then restart the vehicle. In researching this issue, I have found multiple comments over various forums by various users who have reported dealing with this same issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Stereo volume went to max, startled me while driving through residential neighborhood. Then muted itself and wouldn’t work. Stereo reset itself and then played at normal volume but none of the controls worked until I restarted my truck. Bought it brand new last week | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
