Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
Dec 2023 POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES A few complaints: #1: First is the infotainment system continuously requests a pin be entered. I would enter the pin, but the pin screen pops up again and again whenever the system is on. Had the dealership look at it, they stated the info system has the latest software and I was instructed to contact Toyota. After a 2+hour phone call, resetting app passwords a few times, resetting pin a few times, starting the truck a certain way, and other things I cannot completely remember, finally got it to accept the pin and stop pin request screen from popping up. That worked for about 1 week, and since then the screen pops up. I no longer try to enter the pin just hit the x button (kind of hard and dangerous entering 6 digit pin 30 times while going 75 on the highway). I would estimate screen popping up about every 1-2 minute. #2: Truck has 6,400 miles on it, brakes started squealing around 4k miles or less, getting progressively worse. I have tried washing brake dust away at car wash, no help. Sounds like when a car is getting to the last of the brakes. Are they that worn in 6k miles, I hope not, but how am I supposed to know when or if they need to be replaced? Very annoying, and dangerous since I can't rely on the brakes squealing to let me know need replaced. #3: 1 week ago after stopping at a red light, about 5 seconds passed when the truck jerked violently and slightly moved forward, all while I had the brake pedal pressed. It was so hard I was certain I had just got rear ended, but as I looked in the mirror preparing to get out of the truck, I saw the car behind me was barely approaching 20+ feet back. This is only time it has happened so far, but very concerning, will let the dealership know as well, but I can already hear their response "we weren't able to replicate the issue". Fuel line recall, still haven't fixed it (but will be setting appointment to take it in for all the described things, again, and hopefully get my 2nd key, been 9 months already).

Dec 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL In some cases when slowing down to a very low speed an trying to to accelerate again. There can be either a brief (1/2 second) or a very long ( > 1/2 second) delay between pressing the accelerator and the engine responding. Because of this delay its very hard to gauge when and how the vehicle will respond. In some conditions this can be a safety concern as the vehicle behaves unpredictably. I was able to verify this with engine logging data the data shows that the computer acknowledges the accelerator position but fails to advance the throttle or by any means add power for a period of time and then behaves in a expected manner after a delay between 1/2 to 1 second. The best I can gather the problem happens in a timing window when the transmission shifts from a higher gear to 1st gear. I took into the dealer who also verified the concern and opened a TAS case with Toyota. TAS took my data but provided no information or guidance to the dealership.

Dec 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE When attempting to accelerate, the vehicle idles down and fails to accelerate for a period of 2-3 seconds. To initiate normal acceleration, fully depressing the accelerator pedal is required vs. a gradual depression of the pedal.

Dec 2023 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Fuel Gauge is always showing incorrect levels. When fueld up to full at times the gauge will show 1/2 tank to 1/4. Then other times if I know I have 1/4 tank of fuel left the gauge will show as full tank. Very unreliable and concerned whether I have a fuel leak or what not

Dec 2023 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM On multiple occasions my fuel gauge has randomly reset from 3/4 full to above full. Had I not noticed this change I could have run out of gas. Toyota refuses to do anything about this and I have reported this to corporate and two different dealerships. Taken it in for repairs 4 times. They tell me there is nothing they can do???

Dec 2023 STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE I have been getting my Tundra alignment done every other month since I purchased it brand new and have actually run out of warranty on the alignments and have been coming out of pocket ever since. The vehicle pulls quite aggressively to the right unless extra pressure is applied to the left side of the steering wheel. It has steadily gotten worse after every alignment and I can’t even pull an empty trailer with a truck that has the towing package. I spoke with the manufacturer who believed that they have “not failed in repairing the vehicle” I am 8 months pregnant and am terrified to drive this vehicle. It sits while I drive my 25 year old beater car that feels safer because it can at least drive straight. All I want is for the manufacturer to take the truck back and return my money as I have no faith that I won’t receive another faulty truck.

Nov 2023 STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM My 2023 Toyota Tundra currently has a open recall for the fuel tube rubbing against another near component increasing the risk of fire. The life of my family/public and myself were put at risk every day as this can cause a fire which is life threating. This problem has been confirmed by Toyota however there is no safe remedy for it at the moment. There is also a problem with the suspension/ball joints. Every time I turn the steering wheel while driving forward or reverse there is a clicking noise coming from what appears to be the suspension or ball joints or around that area. That issue has been reported to the local dealer however they cant duplicate that issue, according to the service adviser. There were no warning lamps turned on prior to any of the aforementioned. One thing I did notice was that the gas mileage significantly dropped even though I was driving the same distance. Also at times there is a strong fuel odor after a trip is completed or at times while the truck is operating. I am highly concerned for the safety of my family and others that are around my truck while operating as this fuel tube issue is a cause for an increased risk of fire. Toyota of Seattle is where my truck currently is at however the dealer has yet to fix both issues.

Oct 2023 SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM There has been a known issue and recall on this vehicle since August with both personal and public life threatening events. Official notifications are just being shared from Toyota with no sight line provided for permanent fix. This causes significant cause for concern and angst in daily driving of the vehicle. If a fix isn’t available, a complete vehicle recall and exchange should be provided as resolution. These are serious life threatening circumstances that could impact myself, my family or innocent bystander. I feel unsafe and hold Toyota and National highway traffic and safety directly liable. The enforcement and the assumed liability by Toyota of delivering a safe vehicle should be upheld.

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Before this recall happened we had issues with screen blacking out and crashing even after the recall was “fixed” also the back seat outlet has never worked. The malfunction of the grille shutter and park support brake malfunction came last week and we had to have that fixed. Now this! The dealerships around kansas don’t have loaner vehicles or rentals available. How is this okay?!

Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Oct 2023 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE This vehicle is dangerous. There are many more, complaint level issues, but there are at least three real safety issues. First, the automatic braking system has engaged multiple times for no reason. Traveling down a straight, flat road in good weather, the brakes suddenly went fully engaged. On one occasion my dog was thrown forcefully into the dash and was injured and then afraid to ride in the truck. It makes me afraid of the truck as well and could have easily caused an accident. Second, there is the known fuel line issue. This could, according to the manufacturer, be a fire risk. However, there's no remedy. So I'm driving around this truck that could catch fire, that likes to slam on the brakes for no reason. Third, there's something wrong with the windshields in these trucks. Mine recently was broken while the vehicle was parked. It just cracked. Just driving it home made the crack quadruple in size. It's unsafe to drive as is. I contacted Toyota and they aren't interested in considering that there's something wrong with the windshields, yet they can't replace it, because they're back ordered due to so many being broken. So I have a truck that slams on the brakes unpredictably, that might catch fire, that the windshield broke for no reason but can't be replaced. I've spoken several times with Toyota corporate about this and they have no answers and keep referring to the dealer who tells me there are no answers and to call toyota. It's a classic runaround while my $70,000 truck is unsafe to drive. It's absolutely unsafe and the NHTSA needs to act to protect consumers from these vehicles.

Oct 2023 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM [XXX] - After driving the truck for less than six months (with only one key fob) I was notified via the Toyota mobile app on August 10, that my truck had a safety recall for the fuel line with limited information provided through the Toyota mobile app. At no time was I advised that the vehicle was unsafe to operate. Upon bringing my vehicle into McGeorge Toyota on August 28, 2023 for the standard 5,000-mile service, I requested that the dealer address the recall by making a temporary remedy to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle until the permanent remedy was determined. At that time, the service representative advised me that Toyota (manufacturer), has provided no direction nor materials to make either the temporary or permanent repairs to the truck. I asked what would be done to make this right and they advised me that they would contact me when the remedy was available and there was no additional action at that time. Not feeling satisfied with that unsafe resolution which I interpreted as an implication that I should continue to drive the vehicle until the remedy was available, I called the Toyota Brand Engagement Center and the advocate advised me that I could request a loaner vehicle. Upon speaking with Chris Wiltshire, the service manager at McGeorge, I suggested that the advocate informed me I could request a loaner vehicle. The loaner was not of like kind, function, or value compared to my Tundra. The remedy has not been completed and the truck has been sitting on the dealer lot since August. The dealer refuses to provide a comparable loaner, coordinate a comparable rental or refund the purchase price of the truck. The manufacturer refuses to commit to covering full rental or refunding purchase price of truck. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact also stated that the emergency alert, or 911 alert feature, linked to the same system as the radio and instrument cluster also failed to function as designed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer however, the dealer could not determine the cause of the failure and stated that the system was operating as designed. The vehicle had not been repaired. Additionally, the contact had received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V566000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
