| Mar 2024 | STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I purchased this vehicle from the dealership on Nov 24, 2023. On Dec 9th, 2023 I found evidence of mice chewing and droppings. I checked the air cabin filter and there was evidence of mouse droppings and chewing as well. I set traps and caught three mice. I took the vehicle to the dealership to identify where they were coming in from and to assess what kind of damage was done to the vehicle, as it was smelling very bad even after changing the air filters. The dealership stated that this was not covered under warranty because it is not a mechanical problem and that I had to go through my insurance and submit a claim before they could proceed with removing the dashboard to investigate damage to the firewall. I received approval from my insurance after submitting a comprehensive claim and the dealership took apart the entire dashboard as well as several other components. They stated that they found evidence of mice droppings, but could not identify where they were coming from, so they put everything back together and returned the vehicle to me. Yesterday (March 6th), I again saw new evidence of chewing near the gas/brake pedals as well as at the air cabin filter. I called Ram to complain about this but they stated that it is not a mechanical issue. However, I believe they need to investigate and fix this problem because it is a structural issue that is permitting mice to enter and damage my vehicle and children's car seats, and the firewall between the engine and cabin could be compromised. More importantly, it is a health hazard with the mouse droppings and urine propagating throughout the ventilation system. Your feedback and support would be greatly appreciated to have Ram resolve this issue with my vehicle. Thank you | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | STRUCTURE | Tailgate unlatched and dropped into open position while driving without any action to cause the tailgate to open. Resulting in damage to tailgate from a trailer which was being towed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I was sitting at a green light yielding to oncoming traffic while waiting to turn left. When I had the ability to safely turn left, I attempted to hit the gas and accelerate. However, the vehicle died shifted into park automatically and set the electronic parking brake I had to restart the truck and manually undo the electronic parking brake before I could move when I contacted the dealer they acted like they have never heard of this issue before. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The truck was purchased brand new and from day one I have complained of a petal hesitation. From a stop if you start very slowly you have normal acceleration. If you are rushed and step down fairly quickly nothing happens so you step down some more and you get a very abrupt jackrabbit starts and will spin the tires. It is bad on dry pavement but becomes a serious safety problem on a slick road. I also know of three 2023 ram trucks that have the same problem that I do. The dealer has not been able to diagnose or fix the problem. They replaced the transmission with less than 10,000 miles on the truck and it did not solve the problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated that on three separate occasions, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle downshifted to the first gear inadvertently. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer however, the failure could not be replicated. Additionally, the ERS was disengaged. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 14,000 |
| Jan 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I brought the 'new to me' truck to the dealership 2 weeks after purchase to address a known recall and a Customer Satisfaction Notification. The latter related to the PCM software to address an issue of staling (08A). No problems were experienced before the service nor were any services noted on the Carfax for stalling before purchase. Four days after the recall and Customer Satisfaction Notice were addressed, I approached a stop sign with intentions to turn right. I slowed, but not to a complete stop, as I could see that no one was approaching from either direction and rolled thru the stop. I took my foot off the gas as I slowed (guessing to 3 mph) and applied the brake to make the turn when the engine stalled and engaged the parking brake and flashers. I was able to restart the vehicle following the dash instructions, however, this could have been a disaster if someone had been coming from my left of an impatient driver was behind me. The issue has not recurred since happening 3 days ago and the vehicle was taken to the dealership today (records of original visit and second visit attached). No warning message or sounds before the incident. Auto start/stop was turned on at the time. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | ENGINE | Truck stalls when slowing to a stop and continuing to drive before fully stopping. The truck shuts down and the emergency brake is activated. It needs to be switched to Park, restarted, emergency released and then switched to park. Being stalled on the road has been dangerous. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | It was very cold and the vehicle was moved to the drive from the street and left running by [XXX] in Eagle, CO. It was loaded with ski gear and driven 28 miles to Vail by [XXX] . It was unloaded and driven one mile to a parking lot, parked, and turned off. After skiing the keys were not found so the truck could not be started and five passengers were stranded in Vail. Eventually the keys were found on the kitchen counter in Eagle. The vehicle ran over 25 miles without the key or warning that the key was not in the truck. Had this been a wilderness snowshoe trip without cell coverage, the results could have been deadly. It was a rental vehicle and the products [XXX] and [XXX] drive do not allow driving without the key. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | FCW did not provide any audible alert, instrument panel alert, nor braking. I was forced to swerve around stopped vehicles that had stopped abruptly for a problem ahead, narrowly missing the stopped vehicles. Speed under 35 mph. Another instance was at freeway speeds vehicles preforming the " swoop and squat" maneuver to enter my traffic lane. Another instance was when a vehicle was parked (disabled?) in the driving lane and The FCW gave no warnings. I have since tried to make the FCW activate but have not been able to get the FCW to function. Have taken vehicle to dealer and they tell me the computer says the system is working and there are no codes. Really, if it isn't working, there would be not codes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | STEERING,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,VISIBILITY/WIPER | The issue concerns the steering column control module, when the turn signal is used or activate the turn signal self-canceling feature may not function properly. Either issue can cause confusion or reduce visibility for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. I have asked the dealer to fix the issue but have told me they have been out of stock of the part and I have been waiting over 6 months for the fix with no resolution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | ENGINE | Stretch belt that run the water pump from the crankshaft failed while driving. Less than 10k miles on the vehicle | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | This Ram 2023 seems to have slipped from Park to DRIVE. Purchased New Aug 13, 2023 November 3 2023 I placed the vehicle, while on/running, in Park ...........exited the vehicle driver and shut the door, went into the passager compartment (opened the passanger door to remove an item from back area), closed that door, walked around and behind the vehicle ........................... only to return to the vehicle, approximately 6 seconds later, to see the vehicle moving on its own, and ended its travels into a parked Mercedes. No persons in either vehicle during collision. When I got in and placed my foot on brake- I shut down the vehicle and noticed it was in Park. (!). | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | ENGINE | When trying to enter an interstate going at a slower speed, the car jumped from drive to park. The vehicle could not be driven. I was able to pull over safely. If it had happened in traffic or at a higher speed, it could have been very dangerous. The engine issue light came on shortly later. The vehicle is at the dealer now. They haven’t been able to reproduce the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | There is a loud humming/tumbling sound when decelerating at lower roms. It is very loud, obnoxious, and distracting. It was so loud that I couldn’t hear an emergency vehicle coming up behind me to get over. I have found 100’s of complaints on forums with the same issue with the 5th gen rams. Regional mechanic said it is normal operating for the vehicle, dealership mechanic said this is not normal. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | STEERING,POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 5 MPH, the vehicle independently shifted into park(P) and the steering wheel became stiff. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The mechanic was not able to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 99,000 |
| Sep 2023 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The left turn signal does not turn off after the turn is completed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Left turn signal doesn’t cancel on its own. You signal left and you make a left turn and the signal is still blinking. This is a widespread issue according to other Ram 1500 owners. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | 9/28/2023 - As I was slowing the vehicle down at a stop sign, the vehicle suddenly switched from drive to park, and the parking brake was activated. The motor stopped operating and the light indicating the engine was not operating was on. I was able to start the truck without further problem. The truck has a 5.7 e-torque. On 9/11/20213 the truck was left at Moss Brothers Dodge for diagnostic. The truck was there for 3 days. On 9/13/2023 I picked up the truck. The diagnostic evaluation was unable to retrieve codes errors. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Incident #1: July 29 2023 Truck was purchased at 16 miles on the odometer and approximately at 160 miles the check engine light came on. The truck was coming to a stop when in sputtered, and the check engine light came on a few seconds after. The truck was drivable and was driven a few miles to my home. The truck was driven a few days later and the electrons on the truck such as the radio started to turn off, followed by a battery warning. I went to pull the truck over immediately as the engine was sputtering. I attempted a jump start of the truck and it ran for a few minutes then shut off. The truck battery was charged and put on a tow truck and sent to the dealership. They replaced the MGU "Motor Generator Unit" after which the issue appeared to have been resolved. The battery charge read between 13.8 - 14.2v and right in the middle of the battery charge indicator. Incident #2 August 15th 2023 The truck was parked at the Reno Airport, and when my flight was canceled, I decided to instead drive to San Francisco. The truck was parked in the sun for about 4 hours before it was driven again. I started driving and a few minutes later, was coming to a red light, started to apply the brakes, there was the same feeling of engine stalling when coming to a stop. The engine didn't stall, and no Check Engine light illuminated. I started the 25 mile uphill drive from Reno to Truckee, and noticed that the battery charge was slowly dropping down to 13v, then 12.8v, then to 12.7v when I got to Truckee. I pulled the truck over, restarted it and the voltage slowly climbed up to 13v and I resumed the drive. I started the climb to the Donner summit over i-80, and noticed the battery charge indicator dropping slowly. Approximately 65 miles later then charge was reading 12.4v and the low battery indicator light came on. I pulled the truck over to avoid it from stalling out like it did during the first incident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | STRUCTURE | Tailgate latch failed. Tailgate opened while driving on two separate occasions. As of this submission my vehicle has less than 3,000 miles. After the second failure I took the vehicle to the dealership. They ran diagnostics and confirmed an issue with the tailgate latch. I am working with the dealership and hopefully will have the repairs covered under warranty. Diagnostic report attached. The incident date covers the second failure. I am reporting this issue due the fact it is a known issue and has been the subject of recalls for model years through 2022. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | While making a slow left turn the truck stalled without warning almost causing an accident with oncoming traffic. Once the truck stalled, I wasn't able to accelerate, and the car slowly rolled across two lanes of oncoming traffic. Once the car came to a stop the emergency brake engaged. I was able to put the car in Park and restart and disengage the emergency brake. If the other cars hadn't stopped in time this could easily been a fatal accident for me and my family. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2023 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 4 MPH and making a left turn, the vehicle stalled inadvertently, nearly causing a crash with incoming traffic. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to roll the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 2,000 |
| Jul 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Accelerating from a stop, turning hard right, engine shut off without warning. Vehicle steering seemed unaffected, emergency brake engaged without warning, dash read “apply brake and push start button”- the standard start up message upon entering when parked and engine off. No other indicator lights. Vehicle restarted by applying break and pushing start button. Vehicle lurched mildly when starting engine. Happened approximately 1435, temp around 95 F, daily driver vehicle, driven that am without issue. The remainder of the 10 minute drive, the battery indicator light would come on with a chime. Indicator would remain on around 10-20 seconds and turn off. Battery warning light came off and on at least 8 times within 10 minutes. Vehicle ran without issue aside from battery warning light. Parked for 9 hours and drove home without incident or warning lights. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2023 | STRUCTURE | Tailgate latch failed causing tailgate to fall while driving. Tailgate fell onto trailer causing over $2500 in damages. Vehicle has less than 7k miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2023 | AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I was sitting stoped in a parking lot and the vehicles etorque shut the engine off. When I took my foot off the brake the vehicle accelerated on its own and hit a light pole. Also airbags didn’t deploy. I was roughly 10 feet from the pole . | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
