Nov 2024 STRUCTURE UNKNOWN. While I was driving down the interstate going 75MPH the top part of my grill flew off cracking my wondshield. I pulled over and pick it up and all the plastic welded factory clips broke off. This is a seriously dangerous issue that should be recalled and covered by GMC

Nov 2024 STRUCTURE My 2023 Sierra has an issue with the tailgate opening at any given time while in park. The dealer denied such issue until I noted a GM recall on the tailgate switch becoming contaminated with water. My issue is the amount of items, such as tools, half full plastic gas cans, shovel, etc, that I have lost out the rear of my vehicle endangering other motorists. My tailgate has become damaged, mostly paint damage, however I am more concerned about the public's safety and other GM trucks with the same growing issue. It was not until my dead battery (in a 2023 vehicle) caused me to discover the tailgate issue was connected to the short in the release switch. I also have a tonneau cover so I cannot see the tailgate and the truck gives no indication of the tailgate being down. This problem began within a few months after purchase.

Nov 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH with the cruise control engaged, the instrument cluster was blinking and then went black. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but had become a recurring failure. The contact also heard a chirping sound when the instrument cluster went black. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer and was informed that there were no failures with the electrical system. The contact was unsure if a diagnostic test had been performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

Nov 2024 ENGINE While driving my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, 6.2-liter engine on the highway, the engine seized at 22,000 miles. GMC has been working on my truck since 9/7/24 and still no truck. The end state is, I was told by the Service Department that there is a design flaw with the 6.2-liter engine (something with the intakes valves being too large, resulting in the valve bending seizing the engine). I was also told, this dealer had two other trucks there now with the same seized engine. Their plan is to install a new engine with the same design flaw with the hopes it does not happen again. This was an extremely unsafe condition as I was travelling at 65 miles per hour on the highway when the engine seized, luckily, I was able to coast to a large shoulder after almost getting into an accident when it seized going uphill.

Oct 2024 STEERING While at highways speeds, the steering will not return to center while going/coming out of a curve. It acts as if the power steering system is failing or low on fluid but that is not the case. I’m aware of a current recall with the Sierra but my VIN does not fall into the recall. The recall is for a software fix. GMC will not look into without charging me. This is a safety issue while driving. It holds the steering wheel in the turning position and I have to pull it to center.

Aug 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE Engine goes to limp mode multiple times 3 of which happened getting onto the highway and almost creating an accident due to the reduced acceleration mode. CODe u0656 00 popped up each time. Dealer has yet to rectify due to lack of appointments… making me keep the vehicle saying it’s drivable but each time randomly goes into the reduced acceleration mode every restart. Jul 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Approx 17 months after purchase, tailgate release button (the lower button on the tailgate that is used to open (fully) the tailgate) stopped releasing the tailgate, however tailgate releases randomly when opening one of the truck doors. Based on the "fix" that has been subscribed for existing Chevy & GMC trucks with recalls for this same problem (although my truck isn't covered by current recalls) , my mechanic has ordered a new tailgate release switch (or whatever it is called) which they are installing tomorrow.

Jul 2024 ENGINE In late February/early March, my GMC Sierra with around 9000 miles had the following to occur on a cold start: check engine light came on as well as the service esc light & traction control light, truck shuddered and shimmied. Took for service on March 4, 2024 with 9774 miles on odometer, where service tech said they couldn't duplicate concern (see attachments: March Service Invoice Pg 1 & 2). Took truck home & same issues kept occurring especially on cold mornings & days. Took the truck back for service on April 1, 2024 with 10895 miles on odometer. Told them to keep it till its fixed & to start it on cold mornings because thats when problem occurs. They had truck till April 12, 2024 and were able to duplicate the concern. Dealer changed the fuel injector (that was not the problem). Service tech finally found the cylinder 8 has a misfire until vehicle gets to operating temperature. They replaced all 8 lifters in bank 2 (right side) & gave me an oil change. This seems to have fixed the problem, but I won't really know until winter 2025. My problem with this lifter issue is that this engine will probably only last for 3 maybe 4 years tops because of all the metal shavings that are roaming around in the engine. This has been a problem with GM engines for some time & GM has yet to fix it or at least take responsibility for their poor engineering. I paid over $70,000 (of which GM made around $17,000) for this truck only to have the engine probably make it for a few years. My last truck I kept for 10 years. I don't see this happening with this truck.

Jul 2024 POWER TRAIN after driving for a few minutes when down shifting vehicle will lock gears making the rear tires slide until a loud pop. May drive fine for a few miles again then reoccurring at any speed dealer said to drive it on SAFETY CONCERN but i did. truck has been at dealer for 2 months now. but am aware of more than mine with the same problem at the same dealership located at laura buick gmc in collinsville illinois

Jun 2024 ENGINE The transmission failed as I as was turning on to a highway. It seemed like it was rapidly shifting between two gears, but I could not accelerate for several seconds and had to immediately pull over into the ditch to avoid a high speed collision. I took it to the shop the next day. The transmission valve body failed, which appears to be a common issue as I've researched incidents like this online. The part was on backorder. Once it arrived at the dealership, the replacement valve body immediately failed again. Now a 3rd valve body is on backorder with no ETA. I've been without my truck for over a month now with no end in site, and I do not have confidence that a 3rd replacement is going to provide a proper and long lasting fix.

May 2024 STRUCTURE On May 5, 2024, while driving my 2023 GMC Sierra truck on HWY 40 near Holbrook, AZ, the tailgate lowered un-commanded twice while driving. I called GMC and they told me that my vin is not included in the recall. There is a recall for this exact problem however GMC said it is only for GMCC truck built at a specific plant. This happened twice and did significant damage to my tailgate.

May 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE I bought truck brand new one week later the tailgate opened while driving and hit the trailer and destroyed the tailgate. So I bought a brand New tailgate and repaired truck. Few months ago it happened again all my tools flew out into the highway almost caused a major accident and destroyed my saw and tools got thrown all over the road. Last week it opened again and destroyed the new tailgate I bought. The dealer is aware, gmc is aware and no parts to fix it or does anyone want to help me just let me drive a truck that is so unsafe. It's all over the internet this issue people are saying there tailgate opens while driving and gmc made a statement saying they are aware but not helping me. Sold me a truck for alot of money knowing it's a major dangerous defect that can cause major damage and serious injury on the road.

Apr 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The bed tailgate will come down on its own. There is no warning or message to indicate the tailgate is down. This has happened at least 6 times in the past 6 months. The dealer is aware and some models have had a recall but I have not gotten one yet. The danger is something coming out of the bed while driving down the road, which happened to me and lost a crate with trailer ball hitch and straps. I don't know if it caused an issue because i don't know when or where it fell out. Googling this shows it is happening a lot. Very dangerous and some sort of correction or warning.

Apr 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE Purchased vehicle new June 23 2023 and Super Cruise never worked and if engaged acted erratically . Vehicle spent over 40 days in several GM dealerships for the issue and one dealer even charged me for installing a warranty part.. GM filled a case 9-10220813020 but were not helpful in dealing with dealers and to add insult to injury would not even reimburse me for warranty work or in any way compensate me for my time and efforts to fix the issue. Frustrated with GMs indifference I traded the vehicle in March 2024.

I'm the second owner I only put 2k miles since ownership. I was able to obtain a vehicle history report which shows this has been an on going problem among other issues DTC code U0131 Lost communication with Power steering Module shows at least 9 times that Romain GMC try to fix the problem. Mar 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I purchased a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali trading in the same 2022 version [XXX]. I would find the tailgate down after stopping. It became habit to make sure the tailgate was latched. Unfortunately, while pulling a trailer, the tailgate opened again while driving causing me to have to replace the top portion of the multipro tailgate. The new tailgate would be damaged a second time despite my efforts, but traded it in for the 2023 as it was. This continued but more often with the 2023. Two weeks ago I was pulling my trailer driving from San Diego to Las Vegas and we were flagged down by another car on [XXX], and we realized the tailgate had opened. We were thankful he did because had anything fallen out, we were super concerned it could cause havoc with the traffic that followed. We put a bungy cord on it. The next morning driving the trailer 4 blocks but knowing we would make a u-turn, and a sharp right turn, I opened the tonneau cover so I could clearly see the tailgate, I was pulling the trailer, and I had my eye in the rear view mirror. Lo and behold, the light turned green, I paid attention to traffic, and I made the uturn. I felt the tailgate being crushed. This time, it took out the entire tailgate, and caused moderate damage to what was also crushed on my trailer. The notion that these tailgates are not opening while driving is simply not true. I have experienced this not once, but twice. As if this cannot get worse, GM tells me my truck is not part of this recall. They so far have refused to give me the "fix" for it so I can fix on my own dime. And on top of that, my body shop told me the tailgate replacement is on back order for months with no idea when production for these will catch up. This one will cost $3300, my trailer $800, and the 2022 truck about $2800.00. Besides the obvious cost and aggravation, the bottom line is that it is a safety issue for other drivers. I am concerned.
