| Mar 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Was traveling at around 60 mph and multiple lights and warnings came up on the dash “powertrain malfunction” and “service advancetrac”. Power was reduced to a limp mode and I was forced to pull over on the highway. This happened within a week of having multiple software recalls carried out by a ford mobile technician. I was able to reset the codes with an obd scanner and haven’t had an issue since but I have read about this happening to multiple people with the same hybrid vehicle after having these recalls done. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | FIRERELATED | The contact's son owned a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact was filing a complaint on behalf of his deceased son. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed and making a right-corner turn, the vehicle turned onto the left shoulder, which was covered in dirt and gravel, and skidded 164 feet into a large tree. The vehicle then rotated about 90–100 degrees and caught fire. The contact stated that the fire started in the engine compartment. The police and fire department arrived on the scene, and the fire department extinguished the fire. The contact stated that a state trooper informed him that the crash was caused by excessive speed. The contact's son remained inside the vehicle when it caught fire and died as a result of the fire; however, the contact's son was unable to be identified due to severe burns from the fire. Police and fire department reports were filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The insurance company was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000. The contact stated the vehicle has been moved to a storage lot and held for inspection. | Crash: Yes Fire: Yes Injuries: 1 Fatalities: 1 Towed | 4,000 |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I was driving around in city traffic and all of the sudden a message popped up on my screen that said "gear will engage at lower speed" and lost all power. I coasted into the nearest parking lot and it slammed me to a stop when i got slow enough and put the parking brake on. It then thew a bunch of codes saying service soon, something regarding advancetrak, and the check engine light came on. I then turned the car off and back on which made only the check engine light come on so i tried to at least make it home and i accelerated to 20mph and lost power again. threw the same codes at me too. At that point i got into another parking lot and it got towed to mcree. I believe what the cause was a ford guy came by the house a week ago to do a recall and reprogrammed the computer system. I read online that a guy had the recall done a week ago and the same thing happened to him. That same guy said that he brought it to his ford dealer and they are on their 3rd attempt at fix it as the problem keeps occurring. lets hope that doesn't happen.. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Vehicle loses communication between control modules & goes into a limp-home mode. Has happed 3 times when doing highway speed driving on cruise control. Lots of alarms are posted including forward collision warning, emergency braking & traction control not working. Check Engine Light lights. Vehicle power is shutdown to low level. There is loss of throttle response. I pulled over to side of road because display messaging said that it wants to shift gear but must wait until vehicle slows. When slowing to near a stop, but still going 1-2mph (estimate), the vehicle slammed into park & put the Parking Brake on. I can acknowledge warning messages, take Parking Brake off, & select Drive. Then vehicle tries to move at 35mph of its own & w/o any throttle input. In fact, the throttle is unresponsive in this mode. The electric traction motor and/or engine will try to maintain 35mph -- forward or REVERSE -- &will apply power as needed to sustain that speed. Thankfully, the braking power will overcome the powertrain drive power & I can stop. The communication issue has happened to a couple other Maverick vehicles in the country, but I don't know whether they've experienced the vehicle trying to go 35mph on its own w/o any throttle input. This going 35mph in limp-home mode -- in forward and in reverse, and w/o any throttle input -- is a horrible fail-safe response & seems very unsafe to me. It is hard to gently back into a parking spot. Losing power while driving because of the whole communication failure is very unsafe: I might need to finish a pass on a 2-way highway and would need power for that; I might need to throttle out of a situation; or, as has happened 3 times to me, I suddenly lose power on an interstate highway where traffic regularly is going between 65 -80mph. This could leave me getting rear ended because my vehicle slows w/o brakes applied so other drivers have no warning. These incidences occurred after 23C41 / 23V848 safety recall service. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Truck died in the middle of a busy road. I was able to pull over and let it sit. Started it up, got another couple miles down the road, and it died again. Full plethora of warning messages. Let it sit some more - it started and I was able to drive it home. Pulled the codes: U1011 and U1028. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | [XXX] car malfunctioned. First said that the gear was working incorrectly, then accelerator stopped working and Drive light on gear shifter started blinking. I pulled over to the shoulder and the brakes continued to work, and all the messages in my video came up. I started on cruise control going 78 then once I got to [XXX] my parking break came on. Once stopped I tried to go back into drive, which didn't work. The car would not go forward, almost as if it was attached to something. I turned the car on and off several times trying to get the parking break off. After I believe the third time I turned off the car, I left it off for about a full minute before turning it back on. The lights on the car went off except the check engine light, and the emergency brake light, though it finally let me turn the break off and switch into drive. I drove the last 4 minutes home without incident. This links to a video I took after I got onto the side of the highway showing what was happening on my display. | Mar 2024 | STRUCTURE | The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the strong odor of mold and mildew was present inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact that the failure was caused by faulty floor pan body plugs which were improperly sealed causing water to intrude into the floorboard of the vehicle and causing mold and mildew to develop inside the vehicle. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 900. | Crash: No Fire: No | 900 |
| Mar 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while in the process of towing a trailer, he connected the trailer electrical cable to the vehicle; however, while towing the trailer and engaging the driver's side turn signal, the driver's side turn signal on the trailer was inoperable. An "Error" message was displayed. The contact stated that when he towed the trailer with other vehicles, the trailer driver's side and passenger's side turn signals were operable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V848000 (Exterior Lighting, Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 5,500. | Crash: No Fire: No | 5,500 |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN | I have owned my 2023 Ford Maverick for, coming up on 14 months. It's been well taken care of it, serviced every 2-3 months, and not driven hard or abused. Last month the engine shuts off as the truck is parked in a gym parking lot. My FordApp was reading a powertrain malfunction. The truck gets towed to the dealership for servicing. Their go-to fix for the error code is to replace a module for the hybrid battery. After doing so the truck broke down a second time 2 minutes after starting up. A Ford engineer looked into it and decided the solution would be to remove the module/hybrid battery? and install high-voltage harnesses into the vehicle and then reinstall everything into those high-voltage harnesses. Parts are ordered; a full week and 40 hours of labor later, they start the truck and it shuts off again 2 minutes later, sending the same error code. A field engineer is sent out, and he now is recommending an entirely new transmission be installed. Parts are ordered and an eta of 2 weeks has been given for this repair to be made. A 14-month-old, brand-new truck has been in the dealership shop for 4 full weeks and is expected 2 more weeks for this selected repair. The truck could have broken down anywhere, at anytime! Who knows if you could have been driving or in a bad area... The high voltage harnesses also worry me because of lithium batteries already having a history as a fire risk, and now this sounds like it can increase the electrical flow capacity. Seriously concerning, especially as it seems there is not a concrete fix and they're trying multiple different repairs. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Hello! I just had RECALLS completed on [XXX] and drove car on [XXX] at 75mph speed (in Texas) and within 1 hour of driving the vehicle began flashing same issue mentioned and brought speed down to MAX 35mph with NO FOOT on pedal. Almost got hit by 18 wheeler! Took it to dealer and 300 miles plus they drove and could not replicate issue. Gave vehicle back and it happened again [XXX] at 70mph ... Definitely believe it was the update that caused the issue. Extremely dangerous and SCARY too say the least to have the vehicle stop at such high speeds and have almost no control. | Mar 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | While attempting to turn left at an intersection, my hybrid vehicle suddenly became unresponsive. The dashboard lit up with several warnings and it would only idle using its electric motor. It would then accelerate to top electric-only speed despite me not applying my foot to the accelerator. My safety and others was put at risk because I was turning left at a busy intersection. My local dealer (from whom I purchased the vehicle) cleared the errors and then drove several hundred miles without any errors and without replicating the problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | My 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid had a horrible issue[XXX] I had two recalls (23e09B and 23C41B) done last Friday [XXX] (and an oil change) at Huntington Beach Ford, CA. Yesterday [XXX] I was driving with my daughter to go get food, and while stopped at a light I got numerous error messages and the truck would not move. It was extremely dangerous as I was on the road with cars all around me. I don't remember all the messages but some were Pre-Collision Assist not available, Service AdvanceTrac soon, Hill Start Assist not available, Service Vehicle Soon and a Check Engine Light. Eventually I got the truck to move, but it started accelerating on its own via electric power. Luckily the brakes worked and I was able to pull aside to a side street, stop the vehicle, and have it towed to Huntington Beach Ford, CA. The check engine light is still on, and I believe one of the recalls that reprogrammed the ECU caused this huge safety issue. I have also opened up a case with Ford Corporate ([XXX]) as this is a huge safety issue. | Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN | Twice in one week the vehicle displayed a powertran error and reduced speed to 30mph. Both instances I was traveling on the highway and was able to exit safely | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING | - Lithium Battery risk- "deep sleep" vehicle goes into deep sleep and is dark, no interior lights. SSM 51725 was performed - what it accomplished was removing the APP notification of deep sleep, not the problem. There are numerous similar complaints on the "Maverick forum", usually with the recommendation to "drive more", initially a poor battery connection was thought to be the problem, that has been resolved. The battery has been tested and been to be found in compliance - the issue is not the starting capacity but in the reserve capacity or the battery management system. Some are AGM some are flooded the risk is hybrid owners are carrying battery jump boxes for safety and reliability, OEM battery replacement is a struggle at the dealership, once deep sleep issues hit, battery issues change to not starting. The danger is that the owner is using a portable jump box in risky situations plus the always risk of carrying an additional lithum battery in the passenger compartment for reliability. Many owners have replaced the original battery, out of pocket, with good results | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | VEHICLE PROPULSION SYSTEM (ENGINE AND HYBRID SYSTEM) QUIT WITHOUT WARNING ON A BUSY FREEWAY. WOULD NOT RESTART WHILE MOVING AND ATTEMPTING TO GO TO SAFE AREA. AFTER PARKING ON SIDE OF FREEWAY AND SHUTTING OFF ALL ENGINE RELATED SYSTEMS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND CONTINUE. SAFETY: NOT SAFE TO PARK IN MIDDLE OF FREEWAY. NO INDICATIONS OF PROBLEM ON ANY INSTRUMENTS. FUEL WAS AT ABOUT 5/8 FULL. TAKING CAR BACKTO CARMAX TOMORROW UNDER 30 DAY RETURN POLICY. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | As I was driving along the highway the vehicle suddenly lost all propulsion. The electric shifter indicated the vehicle was no longer in drive and several errors/warnings appeared on the dash including “Pre-collision assist not available, Powertrain Malfunction/reduced power, and service engine soon”. No error messages were visible prior to this occurring. The vehicle can be made available upon request. It is currently at the dealer for the second time for this issue in the last 3 days. Both times the vehicle was rendered unusable in high speed/highway traffIc, putting both myself and fellow motorists at risk by forcing me to coast through a line of cars to reach the shoulder. Also, being on the side of the highway as cars fail to move over for the disabled vehicle poses its own risk to my safety as well as other motorists. The second incident occurred at approximately 7pm march 7th along the same highway and in identical fashion. The problem has not been reproduced by a dealer, however, they identified and cleared the error codes stored by the vehicle. The service manager said he believed it was a result of a recent recall software update. The ford dealership that sold me the car has inspected the vehicle. My assessment is that this issue is related to a recent update performed by ford service regarding a recall/s. This vehicle was just serviced for its 30k maintenance and received the recall update/s and since then has broken down and been towed to the dealer twice. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I was driving on a freeway and my vehicle went into "Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power mode " and slowed me down from 65 -70 miles an hours to under 20 miles an hour. This almost cause a semi to slam into the back of my vehicle missing me by inches. The dealership is unable to recreate this issue but confirmed it did happen. Ford and the dealership have been giving me a run around with this since they can't diagnose the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | This is my second complaint on this vehicle for the same issue. While driving on the interstate my vehicle suddenly loses all power and shuts off. After the initial incident the vehicle was sent to a ford dealership. It was stated on repair order that: found code u1010: invalid internal control module monitoring data reveived from hybrid pcm Correction ford states to check for updates clear codes and retest, if no issues comes back communication network got crowded The vehicle was released to me and the same issue occurred approximately 45 minutes into my trip hard. This is very dangerous to be happening with no resolution from Ford. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | While on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly shut off, leaving the instrument panel fully lit with every warning light. The vehicle was unresponsive and powerless, posing an extremely hazardous situation for myself, passengers and others on the road. After I was able to get into a safe location I attempted to start the vehicle again. It remained unresponsive for quite some time and the vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. A quick google search indicates this issue is becoming prevalent in the Ford Maverick. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | Brakes grab unpredictably when slowing to a stop. When car has slowed from higher speeds down to less than 6 mph, the brakes suddenly grab, stopping the vehicle without warning. The degree of grabbing is never the same twice, happens almost every time I stop. It is especially bad after vehicle has been parked for a period of time, and is noticeably worse in moist conditions. I feel that this condition can cause a car behind me to possibly hit me. My FORD dealer has had service tech drive it and confirm this is occurring, but they have thus far been unable to apply a fix. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | On occasion, at slow speeds, typically when coming to a slow stop (such as at a stop sign or light), the vehicle's brakes appear to "grab", car "shutters", feels as if car's brakes are locking or vehicle is about to turn off. I am the original owner of this vehicle, less than 7,000 miles, this problem has happened approximately 10 times. This problem could have resulted in a dangerous situation, the last time this happened someone was crossing in front of me at a crosswalk and I was not sure vehicle was going to stop. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the wheels locked up as if the contact had depressed the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated to approximately 20 MPH and he observed that the "Service Advancetrac" and the check engine warning lights had illuminated. The contact stated that other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over and stopped. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the "Service Advancetrac" and check engine lights remained illuminated. The contact stated that he drove the vehicle off the highway however, while driving the vehicle would not accelerate above 35 MPH. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was unintentionally accelerating while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle would accelerate and maintain 35 MPH. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that before the failure the dealer had updated an unknown software application on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,700. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 30,700 |
| Feb 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the PCM was reset. The vehicle was repaired. While driving at unknown speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle began to shake. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer, and the contact was informed that the ABS was engaged. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to another dealer. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB: 22-2493 (Service Brakes). The failure mileage was approximately 800. | Crash: No Fire: No | 800 |
| Feb 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES | Driving on highway when all warning lights came on the dash, including the messages: AdvanceTrac Off Collision Assist Off Parking Break On Service System Soon. My brakes and accelerator stopped working, and the car immediately started slowing down. I started pulling over but didn't even make it all the way out of the lane. I changed gears, but could not go Forward, emergency brake was on but wouldn't let me turn it off. It did let me put my hazards on. I kept attempting to change gears, and eventually the emergency brake went off and I could shift into drive and pull out of the highway lane. The truck was towed to the shop, and they told me on the phone there was an open recall on the emergency brake. They have not figured out the problem or been able to replicate the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V380000 (Engine) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced the failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
