The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 23V142000 (Structure), 23V566000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), and 24V125000 (Power Train), and would like to be removed from the recall distribution list because he no longer owns the vehicle. | Apr 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | My 2022 Toyota Tundra was serviced regularly at the dealership since it was purchased brand new in December of 2021. I made a point to have it checked out as much as possible due to concerns that were raised by the dealer and online resources that the truck could possibly have major engine issues. On March 26th of 2024 I took my truck to the dealer to have it serviced and they completed everything necessary according to the maintenance recommendations. On April 1st, the following week after service, my engine cut off as I was merging onto the exit lane on I-40 in heavy traffic. I coasted to the bottom of the exit ramp and shifted the truck into park to try restart it. It would not restart so I was stuck in the middle of the ramp at a light until a tow truck came to assist me. After pushing the truck in the grass of the median it was loaded and taken to the nearest Toyota dealership. The next day I received a call that they would need to pull my oil pan to examine it due to the fact that they believed my engine was locked up. Once they pulled the pan and assessed the damage to the tune of $700, I was told that my engine and both of my turbos would need to be replaced because everything was full of metal shavings due to catastrophic engine failure. The total bill would be around $24000.00 for a truck that is 2 years old. Now the warranty on this particular truck is up to 60,000 miles and I am at 64,000. The dealership said that due to the fact that my truck was out of warranty I would have to take it up with Toyota. I have called Toyota customer care and still have not gotten anyone to respond to me. I called my local dealership where I have been getting my service and the manager stated to me that Toyota is aware of this issue but they are not recalling the vehicles yet. There are more than enough of these trucks with this problem to force Toyota to do something about it, but they have refused to accept responsibility for it. I could have died. I was lucky. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | ENGINE | I had a 2022 Toyota tundra I bought it new and had it serviced at two Toyota dealerships. The truck had numerous recalls but my truck had no significant problems. I was on a trip 10 hours from my house when I heard a slight knocking sound and noticed oil on the ground under the truck. I checked the oil it was between the two marks but on the low side. I drove it to the nearest Toyota dealership to get it serviced. It was diagnosed with main bearing spun, metal pieces in oil and engine failure. The truck had 63k miles 3k outside of the warranty. There were no warnings lights or check engine or low oil pressure light on at anytime. It is hard to believe a truck can be serviced with no issues to blown engine with no warning lights. I believe Toyota knows about an issue with the early engines but are not informing the customers. If it happens under warranty the will rebuild the engine or buy back the truck. In my case it was 3k outside of warranty and the dealership and Toyota gave no goodwill warranty. I believe being serviced at a dealership they should have been checking the oil for metal particulate at each oil change. In order to fix the problem before engine failure. But that means they would catch more before warranty expiration. Never once were we offered an extended warranty either which I find strange if Toyota didn’t know about the problem. We also had an employee at the Jackson location say she saw a know issue with my vin number before changing her story two days later. [XXX] This is a list of 60+ other trucks with the same problem from one website. Having no warning of a blown engine could cause serious damages physically and economically INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2024 | POWER TRAIN | Was driving at 55 mph on a side road and started to notice pulsing/mechanical noises from the engine. After 3 minutes the Check Engine Light came on with a warning 'Take Vehicle to Dealership' and a few seconds later the engine shut off in Drive at 55 mph. Lost power steering and coasted to a neighborhood to be towed. Was not able to restart the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | This is unacceptable this is a major safety issue and why is it taken Toyota so long to resovle this major issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Being parked my truck started leaking fuel from the refuel port area, after inspected the truck found that fuel was coming out from the charcoal canister ( refueling line, truck was towed to dealership service department on 3/6/2024, service department inspected and found flap valve in gas tank not working properly allowing fuel out of the tank and charcoal canister contaminated, service department replaced the fuel tank and charcoal canister without any good results, once they refueled the truck to deliver it to me the truck started leaking fuel again at the same area, they explained to me that now they are going to contact Toyota Engineers to take the case. Needless to say having the truck leaking fuel next to the rear left brake assembly could cause a un contained fire. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Mar 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Inaccurate Fuel gauge or fuel consumption tracking to protect a fuel pump. Vehicle equipped with a 32 Gal tank. Vehicle indicates zero miles after 27 gallons are consumed. This leaves 5 Gallons remaining or 15.62% fuel remaining which is excessive error. If you know you have over 100 miles remaining when the software say you are at zero you tend to drive "Past" zero as a matter of normal operation. It would not be unreasonable to wait until 2 gallons remains to refill tank as that would still be 30-46 miles remaining. It was explained to me that the fuel pump uses the "excess" 5 gallons of fuel to keep the fuel pump "Cool" since the fuel pump is a submersed type pump. An overheating pump inside a tank full of fuel vapor might be a significant problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Mar 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | I was driving on Highway 98 at 76 miles an hour. A light came on the dash said engine is low on power. Then immediately the car said to get to the side of the road the engine had shut off. This was in the middle of a drive on the interstate. I almost got hit by a truck. With family in the car. I made an appointment at our local dealer for all the recalls and they canceled it last Friday due to their service force being sick. | Jan 2024 | STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES | On [XXX] I was driving in Connecticut when I realized we had taken the wrong directions. We were following my son’s girlfriend’s iphone which kept changing the directions. When we ended up with an over pass in a parking area I applied my brakes but the brakes didn’t work. I was trying to go left to take an alternate road but couldn’t stop. This kind of thing where the brakes or steering have been happening on and off since we got the truck I believe someone has hacked into it using a car kit is what I found under devices but then it disappeared. It also changes my truck into towing mode which is another thing it does. This is done everyday. I noticed I have no history on my truck. This is because it can be put on and taken off randomly. I believe it is a family members doing this to me. We had a Nissan and they did it to that too. It totaled our new camper. I will have to get USAA TO SEND ME SOME COPIES OF PAPERWORK SINCE SOMEONE KEEPS BREAKING INTO OUR APARTMENT AND STEALING THINGS INCLUDING PAPERWORK. | Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN | My 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 transmission has always shifted hard on the initial start up and while accelerating when changing lanes.
