| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While attempting to operate the sunroof on my Kia Telluride, the sunroof mechanism failed and became completely stuck in the open position. The sunroof will not close, bypass, or reset, leaving the cabin fully exposed. Upon inspection, it appears the internal mechanism arms or wind deflector components have failed/broken, which prevents the glass from sliding forward back into its sealed, closed position. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | This is supplemental evidence for NHTSA Safety Complaint #11739200 UNIFIED SUPPLEMENTAL EVIDENCE PACKET SEE UPLOADED FILE | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The vehicle began showing serious safety related symptoms before the engine failed. These included engine knocking, repeated sensor failures, the speedometer and odometer blacking out while driving, the navigation screen going dark, and the entire instrument cluster malfunctioning. These issues caused loss of speed information, loss of vehicle status, and loss of navigation visibility, creating unsafe driving conditions. Despite these warning signs, the engine later failed suddenly at around 71,399 miles with no warning lights, no oil pressure alerts, and no overheating indicators. The sudden loss of power created a highway safety hazard due to loss of propulsion and reduced steering and braking assist. The manufacturer and dealership also provided conflicting and misleading information about warranty coverage, including a claim of “no warranty on engine,” which contradicts the official warranty coverage documents. This has delayed proper repair of a safety related defect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | While operating my Kia vehicle, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of braking capability and loss of acceleration/power while traveling downhill. Multiple warning lights reportedly illuminated during the event, including the battery light, oil light, and check engine light. The incident created a serious safety concern due to inability to properly control vehicle speed and operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Kia dealership for inspection. However, the dealership has refused to provide written confirmation that the vehicle is safe to drive and stated they would not assume liability regarding operation of the vehicle. The dealership further recommended towing the vehicle if I feel unsafe operating it. I am requesting investigation into the safety-related condition involving braking/drivability failure and related warning systems. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | I was driving the vehicle and came to a stop sign. When I accelerated to turn and drive what was a steep windy downhill Road my car jerked some and the check engine light battery light and oil light came on the dash when I went to push the brakes they went all the way to the floor and the car did not stop. I continued to try the brakes and had to use the emergency break to pull up and down to stop and drive up on a hill to not crash into other vehicles I have my vehicle at Kia and they are claiming there is absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle and I am to pick it up and leave the lot. They have not offered a loaner car or shown any concerns of my safety leaving the lot. I have asked for it to be in writing, but my car is safe to leave and they are not doing so this has caused major anxiety and PTSD to even begin to drive myself and my children are very shook up over this. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 2 | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | On three different occasions this car’s engine shuts off on me sometimes at highway speeds. It is terrifying being in the left lane and losing all propulsion and power steering. I have to quickly put the car in park (in the middle of the highway) and then restart the car to go again. When it starts failing it keeps shutting off when we come to a stop in stop and go traffic. It’s like the auto shutoff option shuts off the car abut won’t turn it back on. I took it to DCH Kia of Temecula to get to the bottom of this issue. They are saying because there are no check engine lights and they cannot replicate the problem they can’t do anything and want to return the car to us. We fought that and they started a techline report for engineering to help troubleshooting. Kia customer care was involved, but I was told I had 48 hours to pick my car up as is. Driving this car on long trips is now terrifying for me and my family, if you look online, nationwide Kia tellurides are having this same issue I’ve seen from the 2020 models to 2026. I am not the only person having this issue with a Kia telluride. Something needs to be done NATION WIDE before loss of life happens. I would venture to use the fall of the “Saturn” car company as an example of knowing there’s an issue and not fixing it. I want a solution to this issue and I do not feel that “just trade it in” is an acceptable answer. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | VISIBILITY | The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while driving at 66 MPH, the sunroof unexpectedly exploded. There was no impact on the sunroof to cause the failure. The sunroof cover was closed during the failure. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,178. | Crash: No Fire: No | 21,178 |
| Apr 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Standard opening of sunroof, the a part of the wind deflector snapped, without any abnormal incident or misuse. This caused the glass to be misaligned and other damage to the sunroof track. Estimated cost $6000. No warning and no prior damage for causation. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | This is a follow up to the above referenced case #XXX This has been reported to the Attorney General’s Office and they have requested that I send along the following information to your office. I purchased a 2022 Kia Telluride approximately 2 years ago. At the time, I also purchased a 100,000 mile extended warranty from KIA. The cost was $3,200. Since owning the vehicle, I have had a problem with the heating system. I contacted the Balise KIA dealership, West Springfield, MA where the car was purchased to have the heating system checked out. It is still not working correctly! The most recent attempt by KIA to fix the heat was 2/2/26 and was not successful. KIA stated “there is no fix”. Please refer to invoice #XXX. Driving a car with little or no heat is unacceptable. I was told that if there ever was a fix, the warranty would cover it. I was also charged a diagnostic fee of $159.95 which I paid, but did not agree with. This fee is charged if a customer decides against having the work done, which I agree with, but in this case, I wanted the work done, but they couldn’t do the work because there is no fix. If there was a fix, the warranty would have covered it. I feel this problem greatly reduces the value of this vehicle and some kind of resolution should be reached. I am [XXX] old and driving a vehicle that has little or no heat is not only uncomfortable, but unhealthy. I’ve been paying close attention to the heat when I’m in the car. It seems to work ok above 30 degrees, but below 30 degrees it doesn’t work properly. Thank you for your time and I await your response [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Mar 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I was driving down the highway at 73 MPH and the sunroof shattered sending glass into the interior of the car, onto me, and into my clothes. It sounded like a gunshot and was terrifying. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | After a long winter in northern ILLINOIS, we had a 70’ afternoon and I tried to open my sunroof and it stopped working. I heard a crunching sound and tried to reverse it and that may have made it worse. It had been working fine in the fall months September and October when I last used it. It did not cause a safety issue. No one was at risk. I’ve taken the car to the closest KIA dealer to me . Castle KIA in McHenry IL. The Kia dealer gave me an estimate on cost . There was no warning signs of it being broken until it actually happened. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Catastrophic rear differential failure at highway speed following recent warranty repair. Vehicle previously brought to Kia dealership for rear differential knocking noise. Warranty repair performed and vehicle returned. Within one week, original noise returned with additional whirling/ grinding sound. While traveling approximately 70 mph on the highway, vehicle experienced a sudden loud bang and immediate abrupt stop in traffic. At the time of failure, wife and two children were in the vehicle. Incident posed a severe and life-threatening safety risk.Visual inspection indicates complete rear differential mechanical failure, with fluid and component debris present underneath vehicle. Vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.Failure occurred immediately following manufacturer-authorized warranty repair. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | We were driving in the left hand lane on i75 south about 15 miles south of [XXX] and about 10 miles from [XXX] . We were traveling about 75 mph with air conditioning on low. We heard a loud bang and pulled off at exit 328 to investigate. We pulled over at Myers carpet on dug gap road. We looked at the sunroof and it looked like it had exploded upward. 1/3 of the glass was gone and a cone like upward shattering appears in the edges of the blowout area. We had to go to the nearby tractor supply to find duct tape and plastic sheeting to tape over the whole sunroof to drive home to [XXX] . It just happened on 3/15/2026 at approximately 4pm. We have not yet been to a Kia dealer or called consumer affairs at Kia corporate yet. I am filing a ticket with Kia now. | Mar 2026 | SEATS | The contact owns a 2022 Kia Telluride. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that while entering the vehicle, the front passenger's seat had a burned spot, and the front passenger side visor was melted. In addition, the contact noticed brown residue throughout the interior of the vehicle. The fire had appeared to self-extinguish. No warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was unoccupied. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the inspection had not been completed. The fire department was scheduled to inspect the vehicle within the next few days. The contact stated that the inspection was ongoing. In addition, the contact stated that the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V407000 (Seats) was completed on 10/15/2024. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. | Crash: No Fire: Yes Towed | 77,000 |
| Mar 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Subject: Safety Concern – Backup Camera Failure Causing Complete Safety System Malfunction (2022 Kia Telluride) I am reporting a safety concern regarding a 2022 Kia Telluride related to the rear backup camera assembly. The backup camera failed due to water infiltration through the camera seal, which entered the camera housing and caused an electrical short. When this occurred, the failure did not only disable the backup camera but caused the entire vehicle safety system to malfunction, disabling multiple safety features until the issue was repaired. When we brought the vehicle to the dealership, they stated that this was not the first Kia Telluride they had seen with the same issue. The quoted repair cost from the dealership was approximately $1,200. I ultimately replaced the camera myself, which restored the safety systems to normal operation. I have retained the failed camera assembly, which clearly shows the location where the seal failed and water entered the unit. Because the failure of this component disables multiple vehicle safety systems, I believe this may represent a broader safety concern if it is occurring in other vehicles. I am submitting this report so the issue can be reviewed for potential defects affecting other vehicles. Vehicle information and additional details can be provided if needed. Thank you. | Feb 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES | On January 28, 2026, I brought my vehicle to Kia of Fayetteville for brake pads, rotor replacement, and brake fluid service. I paid approximately $900 for these services and was provided a dealership loaner vehicle. Upon entering the loaner vehicle, I discovered a loaded firearm inside the vehicle as I was gathering my items. The firearm’s serial numbers appeared to be scratched off. Law enforcement was immediately notified. No apology, acknowledgment, or remedial action was taken by dealership management. During this incident, the service manager, Alex Prat, acted in an aggressive, disrespectful, and unprofessional manner. Shortly after retrieving my vehicle, my husband who was driving the vehicle experienced a complete loss of braking ability. The vehicle was towed to another authorized Kia dealership, Southern Pines Kia, where technicians documented that multiple brake system components were improperly installed and/or unsecured, including missing or improperly fastened hardware. The vehicle was deemed unsafe to operate. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
