| Sep 2022 | STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the message "power steering unavailable, service required" had suddenly displayed and the power steering malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the steering rack and pinion. After retrieving the vehicle the contact was driving approximately 25 MPH when the same steering malfunction occurred causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a tree. During the incident, the braking system had also malfunctioned and the brake pedal was hard to depress and the vehicle did not stop before crashing into a tree. The driver sustained a headache and back and should pains. The front seat passenger sustained back and neck pains. The cause of the failures was not yet determined. No police report was taken. The vehicle was towed away. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 2,700. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 2 Towed Medical attention | 2,700 |
| Aug 2022 | STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | I was driving down the road doing about 35 mph and suddenly I lost power steering and car jerked to the right. Power steering light, forward collision control, lane assistance, traction control and blind spot warning lights all came on, and a message appeared on my dashboard to have them all serviced. I took my jeep to the dealership I purchased it at in April and they are inspecting the cause of the problem. This is the second time my lane assistance and forward collision have had issues, and the dealership was unable to find the cause the first time. This is first time for power steering, blindspot and traction control. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | We have a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. With the Automatic Emergency Braking system turned on, the vehicle slammed the brakes in the middle of an intersection almost causing an accident. Fortunately the vehicle behind us was able to avoid a collision, but this is an unsafe setting. It has done this twice since we purchased the car in Jan. Of 2022. The setting remains turned off now. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | driving approximately 25 MPH on a road with a 30 MPH speed limit, cars are behind me, nobody is in front of me, the jeep suddenly slammed on its brakes to a full stop for absolutely no reason, cars behind me had to run off the road to avoid hitting me. 2 people yelling at me out of their window. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | This is my Personal Assessment: My vehicle didn't visit the dealer yet and there are no warning lights of any kind and the answer to all the above bullets is NO. Two main issues, 1) Intermittently, when press the gas pedal from idle stop @ traffic light, you will the engine revs but the vehicle either doesn't move or move very slow. In either case, relasing gas and pressing again remediate the situation. This occasional can produce a dangeourous situation and put lives to risk. 2) the second issue is regarding Active Driving Assist System ADAS, also occasionally when the system is all green, steering wheel and all, and ahead of me there is 1/4 of a mile to red traffic light and the road is open for me. I am driving about 50 miles, now approaching the stopped traffic, and suddenly the vehicle start to speed up when it was slowing down for the traffic a moment ago. Something very unusual, I abruptly press the brake to force manual stop. The car then doesn't show this symptom for a few days but occasionally it comes back again. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | 1. in normal driving condition suddenly apply the breakes full, putting yourself at risk if you have another vehicle that comes behind you, it will definitely hit you 2.On many occasions the anti-collision system is deactivated for no apparent reason, it is almost always in specific areas, I understand that it has to do with some Wi-Fi signal | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE | See video of failure. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p0a9lzRf9Qy4RL0HCOCD9TyhZ7sUrvpQ/view?usp=drivesdk Vehicle electrical failure on wiring harness(es). My concern is that if happened while driving it could have become very dangerous. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | ENGINE | Vehicle stalled while driving. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The Adaptive High Beams have stopped working on my Grand Jeep Cherokee L. When you push the lever forward, it should engage the high beams, but it does not. The only way to use the high beams is to pull the lever back (flicker action) and hold it. This is a dangerous way to drive without having high beams. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Upon starting the vehicle a steering wheel icon popped up on the dashboard warning “power steering unavailable, service required.” This was the first time I had seen this message in the 3 weeks since taking the vehicle home from the dealer. I then turned the ignition on and off a few times, but the warning persisted. When trying to maneuver the vehicle the steering was very hard, proving this was not just a false alarm. Not being able to properly steer the vehicle was an obvious risk to myself and family, especially if it was to suddenly happen while driving. Because of this I promptly called the dealership tow service to bring it into the service department. It is now 6 days later and the dealer has not had a chance to look at it yet, or confirm anything about the issue with me. From my own research I have seen numerous complaints of the same issue starting from the 2021 grand Cherokee L and with the new platform 2022 grand Cherokee 2 row and L models. Although this seems to be a widely known issue no recalls have been made. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | SEATS | My husband heard a rattle in the back /middle of the car. He investigated the sound and found the passenger rear seat missing a bolt. The vehicle was taken to the dealer today for repair. A bolt was missing and a nut was loose. I hope it is not missing any other parts. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Had vehicle through multiple warning lights, crash protection inop, lane assist inop, ABS inop, power steering inop, turn signal didnt work. This happend twice. The first time taken to shop and said it was fixed but had it less than 50 miles and same thing happened. It was going down the highway at 70mph and steering went out with no turn signals. Turned vehicle into dealership looking into vehicle buy back | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 2 different times when pushing the gas pedal on my vehicle it would not accelerate. The first time was while driving then accelerating. The second time was while I was stopped at a stop light trying to take a free right from a stopped position. Both times it sounded/felt like if you pushed the gas while in neutral, but it was in drive.) The second time this occurred I was pulling out onto a busy street and was almost rear ended. This puts both me and my occupants at risk and the other cars around me. Both times I was able to get the car moving again by putting it into park then back into drive. My husband took the vehicle to the dealership today (5/26/22) and was told that they had heard of the problem but that there was no fix or recall. They offered no other advice or remedy for this unsafe situation other than to wait for a recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | My vehicle has had continuous electrical issues, for instance today, I could NOT turn off the radio, some days the left speakers do not work. The CARPLAY and other features are intermittant. Secondly the power steering just randomly stopped working, the dealer states its the LOJACK, removed the LOJACK and now I have paid for a feature, that I no longer have, and just waiting for the next time the steering goes out, because there is no proof this is the problem. I returned my 2021 Grand Cherokee L and was able to retrieve the difference, and pay the difference for the 2022, assuming they had resolved the electrical problems, before producing another year. We are, or should I say we were JEEP people. My husband has a 2001 Jeep Wrangler. I have had a Jeep Cherokee, multiple Grand Cherokees and now two Grand Cherokee L.... I love the vehicle but I am no feeling very confident in the safety of this vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | While traveling on a 2 lane road with no one around the FCW system went off and emergency braked the car. No cars were anywhere to be seen. If someone had been behind me, I don't think they could have stopped. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | STEERING | My steering wheel locking mechanism becomes undone while driving I have reached out to the dealer numerous times with no resolve. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE | With 173 miles on the vehicle, I went to start the vehicle and the power steering, electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring, and lane assist lights all went on. The power steering did not work and I was unable to back out of my parking space. I repeatedly turned the car on and off and the lights persisted for at least an hour. After an hour, all lights went off and I was able to drive the vehicle. This could have been extremely unsafe if this had occurred while the vehicle was in motion. This also was problematic as I was stranded in a parking lot late at night. I immediately took it into the dealer and they cannot reproduce the problem and I am driving a loaner as I do not feel safe in the brand new vehicle. No warning lights came on prior to this problem appearing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The contact's girlfriend owns a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while his girlfriend was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced phantom braking. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 220. | Crash: No Fire: No | 220 |
| Mar 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER,LANE DEPARTURE | There is an issue that according to a document that the dealer gave me and is related to Rear Camera Component Fault Stored In The Radio (Code e B21 7A-9A) They say they have no solution to the issue. When placing the change of the vehicle in reverse, the radio does not project any image, it is a high vehicle and the visibility is somewhat poor. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2022 | STEERING | Power steering unavailable 1 week after purchase of vehicle at 380 miles. Safety hazard in driving to any location. After research, apparently this is a widespread issue with Ls steering and are somehow still being sold. This is a huge safety issue and should have been address when initial complaints were brought to light immediately. I am unsure how this model is still being sold and would like to be properly be reimbursed and return of this vehicle due to the misinformation and inaccuracy in marketing and sales of this vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I purchased the vehicle 2/12/2022, a Saturday. On Monday 2/14/2022 I got in the car and it would not start. I pushed the start button and nothing happened. At first I thought my key fob battery was dead but when my wife returned home we had the same issue with hers. We called the dealer and they thought it was a dead battery and sent a tow truck. The tow truck driver and myself tried to jump start the car and nothing happen. We then tried to load the car on to a flat bed but could not because the car automatically engaged the electronic parking break and would not freely move, even in neutral. Two members of the dealer's service department came down the next day and tried to jump the vehicle and also tried to supply external power to the second battery under the passenger seat. This also did nothing. Keep in mind other electronics in the vehicle like the power seat and back lift gate continued to operate. We then had the tow truck return with a different truck which had the ability to put the front wheels on a dolly and tow the vehicle to the garage. When delivered to the dealership they tested it with the same results. Fortunately, they were able to "fix" the problem at the dealership it had appeared to be a loose fuse and we had the vehicle returned the next day. However, today (3/6/2022) I got into the vehicle and it will not respond again, same issue! The key fobs do not respond at all and if you hit the start button nothing happens. I have a wife, an eight year old daughter and twin baby (14 month old) sons. Now what if we are in the car together and this happens? Now luckily both times this has happen it was in my driveway, but I cannot take the car anywhere because I cannot risk the safety of my family taking this vehicle. This was the purpose of buying this vehicle so we could have a family vehicle that would accommodate our family and now it is basically a brick sitting in my driveway. This is the second time this has happened in less than a month. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | THE VEHICLE STOPPED COMMUNICATING WITH THE KEY FAB. THE WHOLE CAR IS DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS. I THOUGHT THIS WAS A 1 OFF TYPE OF THING, BUT I SEE THIS COMPLAINT AND AN ARTICLE ABOUT THIS ON THE WEB. WAITING TO SEE A REPAIR FROM JEEP BUT THEY CANT GET PARTS. BEING SITTING AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE MONDAY FEBRUARY 14. WAITING ON THE COMMUNICATIONS THING TO FIX THE CAR. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
