| Jul 2025 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Vehicle failed to accelerate while operating on the highway. Pulled over and shut vehicle off and smelled gas. Vehicle would not stay started. Towed to dealer and was told it was a defective fuel injector. All injectors were replaced. Apparently this is a known problem. This could have been extremely dangerous if I wasn’t able to pull over. Hyundai should issue a recall to replace these defective parts. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2025 | ENGINE | My Santa Fe limited 2022, has stopped running while traveling at 50 to 60 miles per hour on 3 different occasions. Car has 19000 miles and incidents have occurred over past 10000 miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The horns stopped working, and this is a safety item since it’s the only way to notify another vehicle or pedestrian if they will be hit by my car. Another day, a car came out of the parking lot and almost hit my car. I was only able to avoid that accident because I reversed quickly. I took my car to the dealership, and it was confirmed that the horns are not working. To fix this issue, I need to replace them. But since my car is out of warranty, I will need to pay for this service. On 07/14/2025, I called Hyundai (Case number 4117-7538) to request the application of an extended warranty that they started to offer for the 2021-2025 model year Elantra (Z03). Since my car is the 2022 model year Santa Fe, they did not accept my request. I noticed that on several websites, Hyundai car owners are complaining about their car horns. Just the fact that Hyundai started to provide an extended warranty for a different model, but in the same year range as my car, confirms that they are having issues with this part. I just know about this extended warranty because I also have an 2024 elantra hybrid, that is covered by it (as you can see on the uploaded letter). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Vehicle will stall out while driving at speeds Loss of braking capability and steering capabilities all lost when this happens. Vehicle will roll until stop. No control to steer or brake | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | POWER TRAIN | The Vehicle Trim is "Calligraphy" which comes with an 8 Speed Dual Clutch Transmission. This Transmission is Faulty and i already swapped 4 Transmissions under warranty under 55k Miles. (3 refurbished last one Brand new all having same issue) The Manufacturer *does not* want to admit that this is a Manufacturing Defect. (i opened a ticket #[XXX] with Hyundai Corporate office) The Vehicle surges forward when in "Park" which should not happen and I'm afraid it might result in a bigger risk. There are no fault codes or errors. It is a documented issue with multiple owners and discussed on Forums. This issue is unique to this manufacturer as no other DCT's (some of witch i owned in the past) experience such an issue (as far as i know). | Jun 2025 | ENGINE | A few days before the complete engine failure the car became very jerky on the throttle response I would slowly add throttle and the car would jump all over the place with RPMs and felt extremely jerky when shifting gears. At one point the engine downshifted past redline when decelerating off the highway. The day of the engine failure I was accelerating up hill after leaving a stop sign. Around 25 mph the throttle stopped responding and the engine went to idle around 800 rpm. The car started violently shaking and sounding like it was running on 3 cylinders. I tried the throttle again and nothing happened. At this time I was slowing to a stop on the hill while still in lane being unable to get out of lane to the shoulder. Upon coming to a stop the vehicle continued to shake and eventually the engine stalled while keeping the electric on. At this point there was never any lights on the dash board to indicate a fault. Upon attempting to restart the engine it turned over 3 times and eventually started all while violating shaking and eventually stalling again. The third time attempting to start it did not turn over. At this point I was stuck in lane and needed to call the police to come and assist me because I was unable to move the vehicle under its own power putting my life in danger. Upon taking getting it towed to a dealership they said it was a fuel injector fault. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V879000(Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE | The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while her son was driving 20 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced, but the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer, AutoNation Hyundai Mall of Georgia (3445 Buford Dr, Buford, GA 30519), who determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced and informed the contact that parts were still on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 30,000 |
| Jun 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Description of problem: The Transmission will disengage while driving, allowing the car to 'coast' as if in neutral. The problem sometimes occurs at red lights, where the vehicle remains stationary for a brief period and then corrects itself as if nothing happened. I noticed the "D" character flashing on the dashboard when the issue occurred, indicating a problem. The engine will rev, but the car will not move. The vehicle spent about two weeks at the dealership (Hyundai of New Port Richie, FL), but they were unable to find an issue after conducting over 80 miles of test driving. The last incident occurred on June 8, 2025, only days after I had removed the vehicle from the repair shop due to this problem. When pulling into my son's driveway, the car's engine revved to about three thousand RPM, and the vehicle rolled backward, out of his driveway, and into crossing traffic. Luckily, the pickup truck on the street was able to stop before hitting my vehicle, which was now sitting in his lane of traffic. I looked down at the dashboard, and the car was still in "D" but would not move forward. After a few seconds, the transmission re-engaged and moved forward again as if nothing had happened. I DID NOTHING AND THE CAR RECOVERED BY ITSELF! I returned the vehicle to the dealership for further investigation on June 9, 2025, and am driving a rental. Summary: This car is unpredictable and unsafe in this condition. Someone could drive this car for days without experiencing an issue, but it does happen when you least expect it! I use this vehicle for local travel only, about twenty-mile trips. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Backup camera no longer works | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | POWER TRAIN | While driving the car keeps Jenkins, and on the dash board it cane up have your power train checked. My vehicle has been in the shop 4 times since February over 30 days twice. My vehicle is still currently in the shop at the dealership. They refuse to check my power train area, and keep telling me 2 of the cylinders are backfiring | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2025 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Was traveling on [XXX] near Reston, VA when the Santa Fe engine started missing and losing power and check engine light came on. Vehicle was towed to dealer and repaired on 04/26/24 Mileage was 36285. The repair order says it was fuel injector for cylinder #1. The second time the same thing happened was on [XXX] near Haymarket, VA. The date was [XXX], mileage was 36577. The engine started missing lost power and check engine light came on. Vehicle taken to dealer for repaired. They replaced injector #2. The third time was about [XXX] mileage about 51000. Was traveling near Haymarket, VA. Engine started to miss, decrease in power, check engine light came on. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Inspection of the engine revealed injector #3 was malfunctioning and they needed to replace it but could not get the injector for it from Hyundai. The vehicle has been setting at the dealer since then with no idea when it will be repaired. | May 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On [XXX] at [XXX], my [XXX] daughter was locked inside my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe (VIN: [XXX] ) while holding the Smart Key fob in the back seat. She pressed the lock button, and the vehicle completely locked — with her and the key fob still inside. This violates the Smart Key safety feature described in Hyundai’s owner’s manual, which says the car should not lock if the key is inside. That system failed. There were no warning lights or alerts. I had no way to unlock the doors. I experienced a full panic attack. I feared my child could die from heat exposure. I was forced to break the rear window to rescue her. I was terrified the glass might injure her, but I had no choice. Since then, I have been emotionally traumatized and avoid driving out of fear it will happen again. To my knowledge, this has not yet been inspected by a dealer or Hyundai. I am reporting this because the Smart Key locking system failed in a dangerous way that put my child’s life at risk. This system should be investigated for defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | STEERING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Steering made clicking sounds when turning. Injectors caused the car to run very rough! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN | I took my vehicle in on 2/03/25 for a back up camera recall and to have my transmission checked due it not shifting correctly. I was called within two hours and told the transmission needed to be replaced. Weeks later they called and told me they had good news and bad news, the transmission was replaced, however it would not work. They replaced the transmission for the second time and had me pick up the vehicle on April 17th. I picked the car up and immediately went back in and told her it was not shifting right. They told me to drive it home and see how it did and they would have the service advisor reach out. On the way home, the car was at 5000RPM at 60mph. It was not shifting. The check engine light came on the next day. The car was taken back and I was told on April 21st the transmission needed to be replaced again. I was called on April 7th and told that there was a wire they needed to check that went from the transmission to the pcm and they were going to check it and see if that would fix it. That is 3 total transmissions that have been in this 2022 vehicle. The vehicle is unsafe to drive and Hyundai corporate is not doing anything to help. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | this was a CERTIFIED vehicle i purchased. i dont believe it was certified because after returning it after -3- weeks because the windshield wipers werent working properly. after they looked at it the dealership told me that whoever put the windshield in it broke part of the windshield wiper connections and also ruined the calibration on certain safety features, and broke the windshield itself. this was not caught on their CERTIFICATION process and just put out on the lot to sell. they expected me to pay 1/2 of the expense for which i refused. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN | A shifter malfunction error appears on dash. When trying switch into any gear it, the dashboard and front headlights flash. When I was parking, I put the car in park, the dash said park however the car kept moving and I almost collided into car in front of me. Another incident happened the same day when I could put the car in reverse from drive. I couldn’t turn the car off. Eventually I was able to turn it off but I had to put the emergency brakes on to keep car from moving. The error will appear when driving which is scary. The check engine light will appear sometimes. The car is scheduled for service on May 7th at Empire Hyundai of New Rochelle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The car horn failed to work when I went to use it around April 20, 2025. I first noticed it while stopped at a traffic light and the car in front of me failed to advance for several seconds at the green light. Then I noticed a car drifting over the line in oncoming traffic and was unable to use the horn to alert the driver. As I drive with my toddler granddaughter in the car, I needed the vehicle fixed ASAP. My independent car mechanic had to replace 2 horns (Hi tone Horn and Lo Tone Horn). Today I came to know of a Hyundai Forum and did a search on car horns. Apparently, this is a known failure for many years. Some owners have had the horn replaced as many as 3 times. I since have requested reimbursement from Hyundai, but they refused because I didn't take it to a Hyundai dealership. There were no warning lamps or messages. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL | I was driving at approximately 65 MPH using the advanced cruise control system. Randomly, the system disengaged and I started getting 2 MIL warnings on my console. MIL warning 1) was "Check Forward Safety System" and 2) warning the advanced cruise control parameters are not met due to warning 1. A few minutes later, I received a message on my Hyundai Blue Link app showing DTC C162078. After researching this DTC, I found that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other drivers that experienced this same/similar situation -- unexpected loss of advanced safety features and smart cruise control features. In fact, Hyundai published a technical bulletin for another model with the same issue. The loss of these functions places an unexpected safety risk to the driver if this issue occurs when there is other traffic present. My vehicle was involved in a frontal accident once about 1.5 years ago and this issue has never occurred. This is the first instance of this issue since I purchased the vehicle brand new from the dealer. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | POWER TRAIN | When shifting gears whether from parking to drive or from drive to park, the vehicle lags and makes a juttering noise. I am unable to move from the gear it is juttering in unless i turn the car off or hope that pushing the button turns it off. Whist it is juttering, it sounds as if the car is turning on and off repeatedly. This also has happened from the auto stop when trying to accelerate after stopping at a light and it get stuck and unable to move without me turning the car off and turning it back on. This is a safety issue since I was in the middle of a road, and I essentially have no control over what my car does. I have taken my car to Patrick Hyundai in Schaumburg, IL multiple times and they do nothing about it since they "don't see it happening whilst it is there". I have videos of it and they still do nothing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The reverse camera system did not come on when reversing. It could lead to someone like a child getting hurt if they’re walking behind the vehicle. The problem was reproduced by the dealer and serviced for this issue. They confirmed it was the same problem as the recall. There is a recall for 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe’s that were manufactured in the Alabama plant. This is where my car was manufactured. For some reason, it was not included in the VINs that were recalled. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Vehicle would not shift when accelerating on gas pedal while driving, rpm’s went up to 5,000. Had the car towed to closest dealership and they haven’t looked at it. They stated they are unable to assist me with a rental car. I am home alone with 2 children and cannot go to work. There is a transmission recall on the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with the exact problems the car has been having. Recall #236, campaign #22V746000. I called the recall consequences customer service # and they stated they were unable to help me until the dealership looked at it. The problem started in fall of 2024 and I took it into the dealership first on 11/5/24 and again when it continued the problem 11/14/24. The 11/14/24 visit they performed a software update and the car shifted smoother in Smart Drive Mode only. On Friday, 3/14/25, while driving home from work, the car would not shift at all when pressed the gas turning into traffic. I turned on my hazard lights and pulled into a parking lot. I called roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to the dealership. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The horn on this. vehicle has been replaced 4 times in 2.5 years. It has failed and on three occasions I nearly hit a pedestrian and other vehicles. I asked my service representative, John King, of Lia Hyundai in Albany NY if there is a recall on this issue. He said no. I researched this problem and found that this is a widespread problem with Hyundai. I feel strongly that eventually someone will be seriously injured or worse in Hyundai does not recognize this problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I attempted to sound the horn and it failed to sound. I have experienced this problem 2 times previously. The dealer replaced it the 1st time when the vehicle had about 18000 miles. The 2nd time they did not even note it on a service report but when the vehicle was returned to me after an oil change it was working. I contacted the dealer this time because the vehicle is no longer in warranty and requested they repair the horns for free. I was told they would have to get clearance from Hyundai. I noticed that Hyundai issued a TSB 23-BE-009H for the Hyundai Venue for this same problem. The horns on the Santa Fe are mounted low behind the front bumper which subjects them to water from the road when it rains, as it does often, here in Louisiana. I am forced to drive a vehicle without a horn to warn other drivers. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The auto start system (the gas saving feature that shuts the engine off and on when the car idles) causes the car to shut completely off. This has happened on the freeway at a traffic light and while turning into traffic. When the auto start feature is off I don’t have this problem. It’s a major safety issue and I’ve seen numerous complaints about this on Facebook | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
