| Aug 2022 | EQUIPMENT | i own a honda odyssey elite 2022. for no reason the GPS and Radio screen in the vehicle went out while i am driving. i spoke to MS. Priecilla on 8/1/2022 working in America Honda Motor in Torran, California addrising her the setuation of the vehicle after i Googled it, and fuond that this problem is in all the pilote and odyssey vehicles since 2019. i asked her if she is aware of this problem she said no, and this is the first time she here something like that. I told her to google it because this problem is there since 2019 and the honda dealer is not taking of this issue since 2019. i opened a case with honda dealer in california and the case # 131-784-33. saturday the 8/6/2022 i am gonna take to woodhaven dealer in new york to check the problem and check why the screen go out. it is a very important to check that safty of the cars made by honda. send all owner of this models a note or advice what to do if they have same issues. also this days all cars are computerized and any thing wrong in the computer might put the drivers and passangers in danger if they didnot take care of it from the manifacture to help the owner and driver of the honda. thanks, M. | Jun 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | With nothing in front of me in my lane, the vehicle slammed on the brakes and I was almost rear-ended. I heard the squeal of brakes as the person behind me avoided hitting me. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Problem: While driving on the interstate (in a construction zone with no shoulders), and with no prior indications the van gave numerous alerts to include blind spot monitoring and transmission service. The gear indicator on the dash (“D”) began flashing. I had zero throttle response and began coasting. I was able to gain some forward response by cycling between sport mode and drive while fluttered the gas pedal to match when the gear indicator would flash. If I miss timed it, the engine would rev as if it was in neutral. Using this method, I was only able to maintain 40 MPH. Luckily the next available exit had a Honda dealership and I was able to limp the van into the service department. Safety concern: Without the quick troubleshooting to at least maintain speed for a viable exit/shoulder, the van would of stopped on a very busy interstate that has average speeds of 75+ MPH. It would have surely caused an accident that could of led to serious injuries or death. Diagnosis: Numerous service techs came out to look at the van since I pulled in with my hazards on. At least 2 stated they had seen the problem previously on 2022+ Odyssey’s and to expect it to need a full transmission replacement. Service advisor is suppose to call on Monday with more details and I will update here accordingly. Other information: 13.5k miles on the vehicle and no major mechanical issues prior to this event. Vehicle is regularly serviced at a Honda dealership. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2022 | POWER TRAIN | The car was purchased new, and wasn’t even a year old. We were driving on the highway and all the sudden the engine revved. The car would no longer accelerate. We were able to pull off the highway safely but the car would not accelerate more than a few miles per hour. There were no warning lights or indications of an issue with the car. The car was towed to Honda and a new transmission was installed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Passenger side, sliding door. The door closes on its own randomly but becoming more frequent. I have taken the van to the dealer multiple times and they can not figure out what is wrong. There was no warning light or error shown. Today the door shut on my son’s foot as he was getting in the car. The door fully closed and pinned his foot causing him great pain. He could not twist to open the door and free himself. The door did not safety bump open (as it should have if anything was in the way of closing) It was not until I heard his screams of pain that I ran to his side of the car and opened the door, freeing him. I have attached the photo of his foot. | Crash: No Fire: No Injuries: 1 | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Vehicle will randomly hard brake for no reason. Without warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Was watching news on other Honda models and the emergency break system going off erroneously. This has happened with my car as well. It doesnt appear breaks will engage but the light will flash indicating to break even though there are no cars or objects in front of me. I have not had it inspected and waiting for first oil change to do so. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | After driving vehicle to run 3 stop and go inside errands I drove home . Estimate of time for errands etc. was about 30 minutes. I pulled into my home's driveway and applied brake pedal to bring car to a complete stop so that I could tilt-in side view mirrors before pulling into my carport. As I did this I noticed that a white smoke had begun to enter the car through the AC diffusers. Smoke was also seen exiting from front right side of engine hood and through the exterior fresh air channel (the wiper blade area). The smoke had the odor associated with a fire and not the odor of electrical component malfunction. I turned engine off and exited quickly along with getting my middle row occupant, my 60 lb canine companion, out of the vehicle and into my house. I was not sure what was happening to the vehicle. So I went back out and by this time I could see a lot of white smoke coming from engine compartment. My next door neighbor's father called 911. Before the fire department arrived the vehicle was engulfed in flames. This all occurred within a 10 minute time frame and the heat of the fire damage 2 of my nearby parked vehicles. If I had driven into the carport as usually do, my house would have suffered fire damage. This Honda Odessey Elite was a 2022 model vehicle that was leased March 18, 2021 had 3296 miles on odometer. This is a fire safety issue. Had it happened while I went inside the post office for 5 minutes and my canine companion remained inside vehicle, I may not have been able to get her out in time to save her life. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Jan 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | We just got a new 2022 Honda Odyssey EX-L. Since getting the van my family has ben having headaches and feeling nausea. On doing research we found out that the van comes with ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). If you just do a google research you will see a lot of people complaining about the same issue and that they had to somehow disable the module. I have contacted the dealer and Honda USA, they are still looking into it. We cant even enjoy the new van. Please help | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2021 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | When I first purchased my ‘22 Honda Odyssey a few months ago, the Apple CarPlay wouldn’t work, then the main center screen started black screening and not turning on. I took it in to the dealer and they ordered the part almost 4 weeks ago. It’s still not in. Anyways, about 2 weeks ago, my van randomly braked while I was going 70 mph on SRT. Fortunately, we didn’t get in an accident. There were no shadows, no other cars in front of us, not any reason for it to flash BRAKE and stop. My mom was next to me and yelled, “What are you doing there are cars behind us.” I said I didn’t know what was happening and started pushing on the gas to go again. I immediately took it to the dealer and told them I don’t feel safe driving it until they can fix the brake issue. The manager told me this happened to another lady in a ‘22 CRV from the same dealership, but she was on surface streets. It started w the black screening and than the random braking. Long story short, they replaced the tuner on her car and she hasn’t had issues in about 5-6 weeks. They told me to wait for the part, and while I wait, they can turn the safety features off. I said no thanks, I’ll leave it until they are sure it’s fixed. They won’t give me a loaner so I’ve been borrowing my parents’ car. I already have a case number with Honda and they don’t seem to be taking it seriously nor will they offer me a loaner. The dealer/manager has been extremely rude and has stopped responding when I ask him for updates. I am still waiting on the part to come in to fix the electronic issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2021 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | We were driving with less than 1500 miles on the car on the interstate at roughly 70 miles an hour. Out of nowhere, the gears began slipping and when pressing the accelerator, RPMs revved to high levels but there was no acceleration as if we were driving in neutral. We were able to coast to the side of the interstate and down an off ramp. After restarting the vehicle, a litany of orange warning lights came on. Gears continued to slip resulting in the car being towed to a nearby Honda dealership where the transmission was completed replaced (Again, with less than 1500 miles on the car). This was a significant safety issue with three children in the car where we could not accelerate while driving at 70 MPH on the interstate. Numerous instances of this problem have been identified in the last 4 months alone. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2021 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Both driver and passenger side rear-view mirror glass separated from base within 3 months of ownership. Glass is held to plastic base with adhesive. Similar to complaint from MD already submitted. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2021 | POWER TRAIN | We purchased our 2022 Honda Odyssey mini van less than a month ago. We drove it off the lot at I think 20 miles? All was great, we love the van. Until… I drove from The Colony to Justin. We were having our floors redone and I needed to take our toddler and infant away each day while our house was worked on. I was going to go back and forth Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It was our first “long” trip as we don’t really go anywhere due to Covid. The van drove great Until we came home Thursday evening. I was 25 miles into our trip, driving 75 mph keeping up with the traffic on 121 and all a sudden my van had a huge thud jerk like as if I hit a curb and then I lost all acceleration. I hit the gas and all that happened was the RPMs would skyrocket but no power. My speed went from 75 to 40 to 20 within seconds. I’m in the middle lane with cars speeding past and a semi coming up behind me. I AM SCARED!! I quickly call my husband while I attempt to get to to shoulder. I finally get over and I put the van in park. Cars are going so fast that the van is shaking anytime a car goes by. I put the van in drive in hopes to get to an exit. Absolutely NO acceleration. I KNEW this was a transmission issue. I was able to coast off to the next exit and into a parking lot. I had it towed to the dealer. Upon first inspection they said nothing was wrong with it. I told them to keep checking because there was something major wrong with it. A few hours later they called and said my transmission was being replaced and that Honda was aware of some issues with this year’s transmission. I asked if there was a recall yet as this was dangerous. They said no. I feel that’s extremely unsafe to continue to sell these vans without disclosing the known transmission issue. I feel quite cheated that I was allowed to buy a $40000 without any disclosure of a potential issue. We would have waited to buy a van then. Very very unethical | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | POWER TRAIN | Car won't shift gear. We were stuck on the highway which was obviously not safe. Turned off the engine, after a while started it and car was able to shift partially with lots of weird noises and only drove slowly. When we wanted to put in reverse to enter the driveway it did not respond once again and we were stuck in the middle of the road for a few minutes. Luckily no cars went by at the time. The car is ONE AND A HALF MONTHS OLD and has less than 500 MILES on it. This was crazy scary | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | POWER TRAIN | We were driving our 2022 Honda Odessey Elite Van going 70 mph when the transmission shifted into neutral without warning on a busy interstate causing the van to no longer accelerate. We thankfully were able to coast to the shoulder, but we were unable to get the car to accelerate after the fact. There were no warning lights or indicator lights of any kind that went off leading up to the transmission failing. The car was towed to a local dealer (we were 4 hours from home) who confirmed that there was an issue with the transmission gears "miss numbering" and the transmission needed to be fully replaced after only 2,000 miles on the car. This is a significant safety issue given this occurred without warning and while the car was traveling at a high rate of speed. It not only put us as the drivers of the car at risk, but others on the road. Our car is still in the shop and the replacement of the transmission is in progress. I have seen others post of the exact same issue in online forums and it does not appear to be an isolated incident with the 2022 models. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | ENGINE | After driving for only 2000 miles, the car suddenly went into limp mode where the engine shut off. All system warning lights came on in the vehicle and we could not drive the car. The car was towed to a nearby Honda dealer and was inspected. The accelerator pedal was replaced and all error codes were cleared. While we were fortunate that this did not happen on the highway or where there were other vehicles, it is very concerning that a brand new vehicle malfunctions in this way. If my children were in the car, their safety would be put at risk. This incident also makes me question the reliability of this vehicle. There were no warning signs for this issue, as one would not expect anything to happen to a car that was purchased only a month ago. Since we were scheduled to drive 16+ hours back home in a few days, the unreliability of the car also caused unnecessary stress and anxiety. Additionally, a loose bolt was found on the driver's side after the vehicle was returned to us from the dealer. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | POWER TRAIN | I got a 2022 Honda Odessy towing only for 1 month with $1,500. Today, it started to shake when I tried to perform on the oil pedals. The rpm needles on the dashboard starting oscillating very quickly between gears. I can not accelerate rather than hearing a loud noise. The infotainment system froze at least 2 to 3 xs. 3. the rpm needles started oscillating very quickly, the car started shifting gears and making loud sounds. "Transmission system problem" shows on the dashboard and "blink spot information system failed problem" shows up as well. Eventually, I successfully moved the car to the sidewalk grass. It would be very dangerous if there were more traffic since it was responding to the oil pedal. The car was towered to my local Honda dealer this evening. I just can not believe a new honda odyssey broke down on the way in the first 1,500 miles. Luckily, it did not happen on the highway. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2021 | POWER TRAIN | What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission malfunctioned and is currently being replaced by the dealership. New transmission was ordered from Honda. Case ticket (12339737) has been opened with Honda America regarding this issue. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Driving on highway going 80 MPH. Van slows down to 50 MPH without warning and won't go any faster during rush hour. Luckily, no cars were behind us which they could have rear ended us. Was able to exit highway and pull into gas station. Test drive on local street and van won't go beyond 4th gear even with manual settings. Go back to gas station to park and van won't go in reverse. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, dealership confirm issue. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? UNKNOWN. Dealership is replacing transmission but don't know if Honda will come to inspect the part or not. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Cruise control was on at the time of issue and appear it wasn't able to pick up cars in front so it would slow down at random times. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The driver’s side rear-view mirror glass started to vibrate two weeks ago. While driving at freeway speed, I noticed the mirror glass tilt/drop down and it looks as if it had come detached from the mirror body itself. I pulled over and was able to “click” the mirror glass back in, but it has vibrated again a few times since. I’m concerned that the glass will detach while on the road. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | POWER TRAIN | On 6-10-21, we purchased a 2022 Honda Odyssey from Millennium Honda, Hempstead, NY. On the drive home, my husband immediately noticed a strong odor & felt the car acting strange on gear (like a shift that was out of place) but thought it was just part of being a new car. On 6-11-21, I drove the car with my 2 kids (2 & 5) and mom and she noticed a strong odor like "burnt rubber". The infotainment system froze & shut down twice. The car felt strange when I was accelerating. On 6-12-21, I was driving with my children on the NJ Garden State Parkway & approximately 40 minutes into the ride, the RPM needles starting oscillating very quickly between gears. The car felt strange when I was trying to accelerate. The infotainment system froze at least 2 to 3 xs. We arrived at our destination, parked the car and turned it off. That evening as I was driving back home on the Parkway approx. 20 minutes into the drive the RPM needles started oscillating very quickly, the car started shifting gears and making loud sounds. I tried to move to the right shoulder as there was a lot of traffic but the car would not accelerate despite pressing hard on the gas pedal. A few minutes later a warning message displayed "Transmission temperature near limit. Performance may be reduced." I pulled the car over horrified. We called the dealership & Honda roadside service but they could send a tow truck because I was on a state highway. My husband came to get us and after an hour he was able to slowly drive the car on "sport mode" at about 25 m/p/h. We reported the incident to our dealership and Honda America operations & they have opened a case number. The vehicle was towed today to a local Honda dealer for assessment. THIS IS A SIGNFICANT SAFETY ISSUE THAT POSES RISK OF HARM AND DEATH TO DRIVERS. HONDA MARKETS THIS VEHICLE TO FAMILIES & MY FAMILY'S LIFE WAS PUT IN JEOPARDY IMMEDIATELY UPON PURCHASE. THIS CAR WAS OUT OF SERVICE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF SALE. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | POWER TRAIN | We were exiting from one freeway to another. As we approached the exit ramp, the vehicle began to decelerate and the engine began revving. We managed to pull over to the narrow shoulder, to allow traffic to pass. We turned the vehicle off, hoping is was a simple glitch in the computer. We restarted the car and encountered the same problem. We managed to limp the vehicle to the end of the entrance ramp and called Honda Roadside Assistance. They had the vehicle towed to the dealer we had purchased it from. There were no warning lamps or indications of an issue prior to this 4 days later, the service department called. The had driven it, encountered the same issue, inspected it, and determined that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. Had this occurred while we were in the middle lane rather than the exit lane, given the amount of traffic at the time, it would likely have caused multiple accidents. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2021 | POWER TRAIN | We were driving on M-14 EB, merging onto I-275 N. As we approached the exit ramp, the vehicle began to decelerate as the engine wildly revved. We pulled over the the very narrow shoulder of the exit ramp, as to allow traffic to pass and turned the vehicle off, in hopes that it was simply a computer glitch. We re-started the vehicle and encountered the same problem. There were no warning lamps or indications of a problem. We managed to limp it slowly to the end of the ramp where we called Honda Roadside Assistance. We had it towed to the dealer we bought it from. Their service department called 3 days later, saying they had driven it, had the same problem, and verified that the entire transmission had failed and required replacement. We had taken deliver of this vehicle just a week earlier. It only had 212 miles on it. Had that transmission failed while we were in the center lane, with the amount of traffic at the time, it would have likely caused an accident. We were VERY lucky. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2021 | POWER TRAIN | 2022 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L WITH 10 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE OWNED FEWER THAN 24 HOURS.
