| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | The coolant control valve is defective and the part is on back order with GM and dealer can’t tell me when part will be available because General Motors doesn’t know. Dealer has had my vehicle for three weeks and because of GM can’t tell me anything new. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | GMC has failed to offer a solution to this major engine defect. In talking to two dealerships they are unable to perform any tests at this time that would in fact identify the engine as defective. We hear a knocking lifter but GMC has not acted in a timely manner I called the GMC line (Reggie) and was told there is no remedy and no known information as to when a remedy will be available. I even told one dealership that GMC had backed out of changing the oil viscosity because it had made problems worse. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part to do the recall repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle started to lose automotive power and independently decelerated. Additionally, there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. After stopping the vehicle, the vehicle stalled, and failed to restart. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 96,000 |
| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN | While driving on the highway at 75mph, the engine stopped responding to the cruise control speed it was set to. The vehicle started to slowly lose speed and the shifting was not normal causing the engine to rev from below 2000 RPMs to about 3500 RPMs, at this point the engine stopped producing power, the transmission was shifted to Neutral by itself, and the check engine light illuminated. While I was able to move to the shoulder and put my hazard lights on, this could've caused an accident in a more congested area. No one was harmed or any accidents occurred. The truck would no longer start, at this point GMC ONStar was called and they provided a tow truck to the nearest GMC dealership. While waiting for the tow truck, I decided to read the codes for the check engine light, P0016 and P0011 codes were populated. The codes were provided to the dealership. The dealership has since then confirmed the engine is seized and a new one will need to be installed. Model of the engine is the GM 6.2L, which currently has an open recall against it for the crankshaft manufacturing defects. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where oil consumption tests were performed, and the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle's oil consumption met the manufacturer's standards; however, the contact stated that there was no oil on the dipstick while the vehicle was receiving an oil change on the due date. The contact added 2 quarts of oil after driving 4,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. | May 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Control Valve Engine Coolant which is a well known issue with back orders taking months for the part and GMC not acknowledging responsibility and having loyal customers pay out of pocket. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | Truck has failed coolant control valve. Unable to get replacement part. Truck is still under factory 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. Truck has been in the shop but was not advised not to drive vehicle. Have had multiple instances where cooling fan is stuck on nigh and get reduced engine power message limiting power while driving. Also took truck in for recall that is currently on it and dealership failed to address recall it was scheduled for. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | My engine developed a tapping sound about 10,000 miles into owning it. Wasn’t throwing any codes and it wasn’t extremely noticeable. I have been a mechanic for 20 years and knew something was wrong. Brought it to the dealership. They refused to investigate further due to no codes being on the computer fast-forward to 74000 miles on the vehicle. The engine locks up and leaves me stranded six hours away from home. Yes, the oil was changed religiously throughout the engine’s life, and all service was done through the dealership. I went back and forth with GM for weeks and they still refused to replace the engine on their dime. I was forced to come out of pocket 13000 dollars to replace the engine. Due to the warranty being out by 14000 miles. GM COULDN’T EVEN TELL ME WHY IT EXPLODED AND COULD NOT ASSURE ME THAT THE SAME ISSUE WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO MY REPLACEMENT ENGINE. 2nd engine started to DO THE SAME THING AFTER 8000 MILES AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CODES. NOW I HAVE 30,000 MILES ON THE SECOND ENGINE AND I KNOW WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS IT’S GOING TO DO THE SAME EXACT THING BY THE WAY IT’S RUNNING. I’m disgusted. GM has personally put me in excessive financial strain and caused me serious anxiety. And now I’m driving around a ticking time bomb with no resolution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,533. VIN tool confirms parts not available. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 96,533 |
| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | The engine gave out without warning while driving on the highway at 70 miles per hour on April 11th 2025. Upon towing the vehicle to the local GM dealership, I was told the motor had blown and needed a full replacement. One week after, the recall comes out. I bought the truck used in 2023. I called the dealership I originally bought the truck from to ask about any past problems and was told this same incident happened to the original owner of the vehicle before it hit five thousand miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Complete transmission failure without warning, resulting in loss of power. Vehicle has been maintained meticulously by the book. There were no warning lights or CEL before or during failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was driving home from work one day my truck started. Losing power I could press the gas to make the truck drive it started slowing down | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Intermittent failure of audio and safety alerts (Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning) Dealership’s response: “No fix” despite warranty. Safety impact: Increased collision risk. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | This truck is burning oil faster than it takes us to do an oil change we have to check it once a week to make sure it had oil in it. I have seen online I am not the only one having this issue this year make and model. I want to report this problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | Engine locked up without warning while traveling 65 MPH heading [XXX] on [XXX] outside of East Dubuque, IL. I had now power and many lights on the dash lit up simultaneously. Luckily I was able to coast to a stop and get my vehicle mostly off the highway. I had to walk almost 3 miles in the snow and dark to get to town. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | I was driving down the highway at 75 MPH; and noticed my traction control light come on. No sooner than the thought processed about the light my whole dash lit up and indicated engine light, Traction control system, and steering was difficult. I pulled over immediately and turned the vehicle off. I got out checked all the fluids “all were full and good” no leaks, cracks, nothing obvious I could see. I got back in and started the engine for a moment and heard a slight knocking on the passenger side of engine and felt a little vibration not present before. After getting it towed and not wanting to risk further damage I got the vehicle to a GMC dealer who then diagnosed that I had a failed lifter on my vehicle. This caused bent rods, leading to internal engine damage and I needed a completely new engine. The odometer reading was 68,231. I have not even had a headlight go out in this vehicle yet. All of my oil change records were up to date. It was past my warranty with GMC so they would not pay for it and wanted me to pay 10,700$ out of pocket. My insurance ended up paying for it. When I inspected the engine myself with a GM mechanic he told me that they have been having ALOT of issues with these lifters being stuck causing catastrophic engine damage. Obviously the 6.2 liter is noticed but my vehicle is a 5.3 liter V8. They believe it is caused by the AFM fuel saving feature where it goes down to 4 cylinders on highway speeds to save gas. This was a nightmare and I was without a vehicle for ALMOST a month to the day… exactly 29 days | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | We didn't know that the truck was having a low pressure oil problem, never showed a warning or check engine light, the truck stop all off the sudden without warning, and the engine was seized in the middle of a road, thank God we weren't driving in the highway . | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I am unsure except for what they told me the engine completely seized up I was heading back from Grand Junction Colorado over Vail Pass nothing appeared wrong with the engine it was going fine and then completely powered itself down and stopped at the top of the pass would not come back on cost me 1100 to tow it down from a mountain getting no assistance from GMC other than they tell me one thing the dealer tells me another this is not the first time I've had problems with this it was in the shop from December through February no reimbursements no nothing nothing but problems since I bought it no help I've tried to do my best but my husband passed away at the time of all this was going on I could really use some guidance and some answers and what I should do they're telling me 8 to 10 weeks and they're not promising any kind of new warranty with this engine take what I have or buy an extended one from them that just doesn't right | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | While driving on a two lane highway at approximately 60 MPH the powersteering on my truck failed with warning lights on the dash. I limped it to a town where I could get it scanned and they could not figure out the issue. The issue was intermittent for a few days until it was non-stop. It took over a month to get the reconfigured part from GM to complete the repair, GM had to reconfigure the part to fix the issue I was having. A faulty powersteering control module was the probelm and it required replacement of the entire steering rack and alignment. GM is aware of this issue clearly due to their choice to rework the affected part, but not issuing a recall in light of the issue to take full repsonsibility/reimburse customers that have suffered monetary damage due to their failure to propperly engeineer parts. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware of an abnormal roaring sound coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the abnormal roaring sound was persistent and became louder over time. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 12,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. | Crash: No Fire: No | 12,000 |
| May 2025 | ENGINE | The check engine light came on and the fan ran at full speed. The engine light is for a faulty coolant control valve which I've been told is a known issue and is on national backorder. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Driving 70 mph on highway and the engine shut off. Dash says shift to park to restart. Pulled over and put the vehicle in park and pressed engine start. Vehicle did not start back up. (No crank no start) Vehicle locked in park and wont shift. Vehicle was towed to my house. Replaced battery bus bar and vehicle started back up. Test drove and shut off again in my driveway. Will not restart. No engine light on. 124k miles on it. No warning of this happening.
