Jun 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER While driving, the infotainment system will suddenly increase volume to 100%. Have had this happen 4 times. Unable to turn sound down the last instance (or turn it off). Was able to find a safe spot to park and turn the vehicle off. This did nothing, as the radio would not turn off regardless of what I had done. After roughly 5 minutes of the vehicle being shut off, the radio finally turned off. No matter how many times the truck was turned on and off, the issue persisted. The only "fix" that worked was to let the vehicle for some time, which seemed to reset the system. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AS HAVING SUDDEN SHOCK FROM VOLUME ISSUES IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The sudden increase in volume nearly caused an accident on the road (each time). Vehicle is being brought to a dealer today to figure out the issue, but I see that it has been reported in several forums online with no fixes appearing to be available. Prior to the issue, there was no other issues or prior symptoms to alert of an issue.

May 2024 STRUCTURE When traveling out of town on the interstate approximately 70/75mph. Part of our hood/trimming deluged scraping our hood and nearly Colliding with two other vehicles. Not something that is common and seems to me a manufacture defect that GM is trying to wipe their hands of and I will not stand for that. I have been trying for about a month to get GM to repair this odd phenomenon. However they continue to give me the complete run around. It’s been absolutely impossible to get a hold of anybody the dealership will not help me. I keep receiving email from Gm saying they attempted to make contact but, I did not answer my phone. I have my phone on me at all times I have received no voicemails from them. I write and called them back. I haven’t received a return call/voicemails, or email. GM originally refer me back to the dealership when the dealership will not help me. They originally said they will order the part. I have to pay for the part and they will pay for labor. They contacted me when they had the part in hand supposedly. I sat at the dealership for three hours today for them to tell me that part was not correct and that they can’t cover it and that I would need to cover it , I am tired of the games and I want my vehicle fixed. I have been left with no choice but to file complaint.

May 2024 STRUCTURE Tailgate randomly opened while in park. This is a problem for multiple reasons. When hauling a travel trailer when you put the truck in park the tailgate falls into the jack denting the tailgate and scratching the paint. On some trailers it would be possible for the tailgate to fall onto the jack switches causing the jack to go down unexpectedly. The only way to get the trailer off is not put the truck in Park which isn’t safe at all! The truck rolls in neutral if the parking brake isn’t on. You should be able to put the truck in park and not worry about the tailgate. I called GM a few months ago when this first happened and then it stopped until it rained this weekend while camping. I told them at the time I didn’t want it falling when I started hauling the camper. They said at the time that a dealer would have to look at it and did say there isn’t a recall on this truck like on the HD trucks so is essence I basically have to hope it does it while at the dealership so they will believe me as my word doesn’t mean anything. In my case after the switch is dry it doesn’t do it. Now I have video recording as it is memorial day and pretty hard to get it into the dealer when they are closed just to have it with fine there.

May 2024 LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was being driven or parked, the tailgate was inadvertently unlatched. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the failure was linked to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 141,000.

Apr 2024 ENGINE The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard a knock sound coming from the engine compartment. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and during an inspection, the engine seized, after which the dealer diagnosed a failure with the rod bearings. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 31,000.

Apr 2024 POWER TRAIN The engine failed while driving on the expressway. It is clearly the fault of the Active Fuel Management (AFM) system but GMC will not honor the warranty because I went over 7,500 miles between oil changes. This is a problem because the car stopped operating while driving down the interstate. Manufacturer inspection took place. They looked at the oil filter and saw the metal in the oil filter. No warning lamps, messages or symptoms of any sort prior to the engine failure.

Apr 2024 POWER TRAIN The transmission became inoperable and a message appeared on the display 'Engine Power Is Reduced' in area of the highway where the speed limit is 55 and then the transmission failed completely and left the engine revving at high rpm and not moving the vehicle forward and we rolled to the side of the road to a stop. This was a very dangerous situation as traffic was flying past us and had to move out of the way of our coasting vehicle. It was towed to a GMC dealership about 8 miles away as it is still under warranty. I've read many stories in GM forums about problems with this GM 10 speed transmission in this pickup truck. This needs to be looked into as a potential recall as this problem left us stranded on the side of the road as we had to wait for a ride because we had a dog with wife and I. Currently there is not a transmission recall listed for this vehicle. We were lucky to be in an area where we had cell phone service and relatively close to home, within 10 miles. We have a trip planned for next weekend to go to a couple national parks in Utah and now we don' t have a vehicle to take on this trip to haul out bikes.

Apr 2024 STRUCTURE Multifunction tail gate opens while driving, opens when going over speed bumps, opens going over small bumps and opens while driving down the highway. I brought the vehicle to the GMC dealer, they replaced an electrical switch on the tail gate. This did not fix the problem, I called the dealer and they told me GMC does not have a repair for this new issue. This is a brand new truck that is under factory warrant, the truck has 10000 miles on it. If I ever have a load in the bed it may fall out onto the road or highway.

Apr 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I am reaching out to you to make a report of a safety issue involving the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali model trucks (Vin [XXX] ). I recently read that there was a recall involving the 2020-2023 model 2500 GMC Sierra’s and their Multi-Latch tailgate. I have checked with GMC and my local dealer to see when or if my model would be included in this recall and they have no answer/response for me. The reason for my concern is that I had an issue last year with my tailgate dropping while in motion while pulling my camper. The result was that my tailgate was destroyed and damages were made to my camper as well with both needing to be repaired. The only reason that the bikes, propane tanks, etc that was in the back of my truck didn’t fall out and into moving traffic was because my camper was hooked up thankfully. Its very concerning to know that this same thing can happen again in the future at any given moment with the lack of a recall on my specific model truck. If the things I were hauling would have flown out the back at 60-70 mph it could have ended a lot worse for someone who was following behind me on the road. Additionally, the damages had to go on my driving record as an “at fault” accident which in turn caused a rise in my personal insurance rates. My insurance company assured me that the only way this can be removed was if an active recall were to be addressed with my model truck for the tailgate issue. Mar 2024 LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving and transporting a trailer at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate was independently activated. The contact was alerted by a nearby driver that the tailgate was open. The contact stated that due to the failure, the tailgate was damaged. In addition, the contact stated that the failure had occurred previously several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, the contact was advised to report the failure to NHTSA. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.

Mar 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE On January 20th 2024 I was cleaning heavy dirt and mud off of my truck, after leaving the car wash and driving about 20 miles, once I parked my tailgate started to open over and over on its own. This happened again on March 4th 2024 after cleaning off a lot of dirt from my vehicle the tailgate opened on its own while my truck was parked in the garage. It opened into the garage door, when I left I did not know it was open, so when I opened the garage door the hinges on the garage door scraped and dented the tailgate as it opened. I had not pressed any buttons inside the truck, outside of the truck, or pressed the tailgate open buttons on the key fob. After intense car washes it has opened on its own each time.

Mar 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER On Feb. 27, 2024 approx. 04:15 left for gym and work. When arrived at gym and began to park, I put truck in reverse to check back line and noticed I was looking at my license plate. I then put into park and got out of truck and shut tailgate. Thinking not much about it, I must've touched the button the night before and hit a bump on way into work. Since I have a toneau cover, it fits pretty tight and I typically have to pull it down by hand. I heard about recall that day after I got to work from co workers. Checked my VIN, but did not come up as one of the tailgate recalls. March 7, 2024- Left again for gym and work approximately same time in AM. As I was driving into gym and work, another car coming up close behind me wanted to pass. The car then suddenly backed off to a considerable distance. As I got to gym and put in reverse to check my back line, I noticed I was looking at my license plate again. I know that I did not touch a button either on FAB or tailgate. because I park in garage and leave FAB in a secure place where it can not be pressed. If tailgate was down in my garage, it would have stopped garage door from opening and/or damaged my garage door. In either instances, I did not get a sensor alarm going off on my dash for "tailgate down", If its even equipped with that alarm.

Mar 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Multi-Function Tailgate keeps opening due to malfunction in tailgate switches. Going down the highway and suddenly the tailgate opens and materials in bed of truck are at risk of flying out the back. It is my understanding that they have recalled GMC Sierra 2500 models and above. Why not the 1500 GMC Denali model which is the same exact tailgate?

Mar 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,ENGINE While unlocked, passenger doors go through unlocking phase, door locks click, parking lights flash and tail gate comes open. Along with this, an electric motor sound comes from underneath the vehicle (pre start fuel pressurization sequence?) that goes on and on, doors locked, or unlocked, that, left unchecked, drains the battery. Must be hooked to battery recharger round the clock.

Feb 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Electronic tailgate opened on its own. The tailgate opened while I was either driving down the highway or when it was parked earlier. When I went to park the truck I back the dropped tailgate into a poll because I believed the tailgate was locked closed but it had opened on its own. There is no recall on my vehicle but I believe there has been over 320,000 vehicles like mine that have recalls on them for the same issue. Tailgate opens on its own. I have not had it inspected because they want to charge $179 to run a diagnostic check on it. There were no warnings at all. I've owned the vehicle for around 3 months and there has been one or two time that I questioned if I left the tailgate open or not.

Feb 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Purchase new in Sept 2022. I did not notice that my trailer hitch Connector was not working until after a year later. when i needed to hookup my enclosed car hauler trailer. And notice that my trailer daytime running lights where not working. Only brakes/,turn signals and four way flashers. I contacted my dealer and again they found no issues with the factory harness. leaving me on the side of the road until morning. As i had no running lights. After arriving back home. I crawl under the rear bumper. just to check the connections. I could not see anything nor would i know what to look for. I called another Gmc dealer and they mention that they been having problems with the module for the factory trailer connector. Still having issues
