| Oct 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The top part of the grill flew off while driving down the freeway and almost hit another car. Look at forums this is a very common issue and GMC needs to recall it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE | Driving down the road at 60 mph, the front upper grill piece just came off, flew up into the windshield and then over the cab of the truck and landed in the street. This is a known defect on these trucks and has happened in 100's of cases. When it happens it makes you react as if you had hit something with the truck, if there had been anyone behind me it could have also caused damage or made them react badly to something flying thru the air. When it happened to me I was prepared for it since I had read online of it happening to so many people. The cause is that its build with really flimsy, very thin tabs that just cant hold up to the wind speed and use needed for being mounted in the front of the vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE | Front upper grill trim piece flew off truck causing a safety hazard for myself and others behind me. Flimsy tabs had broken and wind ripped the trim off. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | Rear tailgate would randomly fall down without any key fob buttons being hit. Did some Google searches and it sounds like it is VERY common. There is a faulty tailgate switch that will randomly drop the tailgate which could cause damage if you have a bike rack on or things could fall out of the truck bed while driving if it isn't noticed that the tail gate has dropped | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The transmission failed without warning. The truck jerked several times and wouldn't go forward, eventually stopping, putting the driver at risk of being hit or losing control. There were no warning lights or issues prior to this. It was towed to the dealer who knew immediately that the transmission valve body had failed. He said this is a known problem and in fact there was a service bulletin issued last year by GM. As of now he told us there are 2000 vehicles waiting for this part. The part has been redesigned because GM knew it was faulty. Our truck is still at the dealer waiting for the part after a month. Others have been waiting for months. GM is not allocating the part for current customers but instead putting the majority in new vehicles even though they know there are thousands of vehicles less than 3 years old on the road and putting people in danger! The rest of us are left without a vehicle. You are welcome to inspect our truck at the dealership where it currently sits. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE | Upper bumper flew off driving on the highway | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE | The upper trim piece of the grille broke off while driving down the road the other day. The piece flew up onto the window creating a distraction to myself and the vehicles behind me. The problem can not be reproduced by the dealership as its broken in pieces on the side of the road. Based on internet research this is a common occurrence. The vehicle has not been inspected by others There where no warning signs, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure of the grille. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Driving down the road and a large section of my grill came flying off the truck, hitting my windshield and the car being me. I pulled over as soon as it happened and the car that was hit kept going and did not stop. After a search on the internet it has brought up serval cases of this happening to other owners. This would of killed a motorcycle driver if he was behind me. We need action. | Oct 2024 | STRUCTURE | The upper front grill molding flew off the vehicle while moving and the parts are available for inspection. Please see uploaded photos. The safety of motorcyclist and other vehicles following me were put at risk of being hit by a 24 inch wide piece of the upper front grill at high speed that flew off the vehicle while traveling on the highway without warning. The problem has been confirmed and reported by numerous vehicle owners like mine posted in online forms that I have attached to the upload files section of this correspondence. The vehicle was inspected for repairs by the manufactures dealership representative and a repair invoice has been uploaded. There were no warnings prior to the failure of the upper grill molding being dislodged from the front grill while the vehicle was moving. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | STRUCTURE | While driving in the highway at 60 mph, the top of the front grille flew off, hit the hood, and impacted the windshield before flying off to the passenger side of the vehicle. It impacted multiple locations on the passenger side of the vehicle as it flew off. Nothing hit the grille at the time it flew off. We were driving on a busy highway. Thankfully, the cars behind us were at a safe distance. If there were a motorcycle or another vehicle, it could have seriously injured someone or caused them to swerve their vehicle. Researching this online, multiple owners of the same vehicle have experienced the same issue. Many experiencing it when traveling at highway speeds. It seems like the thin plastic tabs that attach the top grille piece to the front of the vehicle are not strong enough to hold it. No damage had been done to the grille prior to the incident. I always use a touchless car wash, so it wasn’t loosened by that. I haven't contacted insurance or filed a police report. I'm hopeful the damage will be covered under the manufacturer warrant. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | STRUCTURE | I was driving down the interstate when the top trim panel of my grille flew off my truck. The piece flew into the traffic behind me, and fortunately, no one was injured. If there was a motorcycle behind me, the rider could have been severely injured or killed. The piece that flew off is located just above the grille and below the front edge of the hood. Multiple people have reported the same issue with their trucks. This morning, the parts department at my dealership confirmed that I was not the only customer to present this problem. There is nothing to warn of the problem before this piece flies into traffic. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Have a 2022 GMC Sierra Limited with the 6.2L motor. About two months ago I started to have a shift to park message come up when turned off vehicle. The vehicle is in park as it sits on my downhill driveway and doesn't move. The computer is not sensing that the transmition is in park. I know that the areother models under the GM brand that are having this issue, "Shift to Park" as they call it. I would think this would be covered under the powertrain warrenty but dealership says no. I am not looking to drop $800 on repairs on the same issue they are having in other vehicles. There is a recall for the other models but not the 22 Sierra. Any information you could provide would be appreciated. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | STRUCTURE | A large part of the grill on the front of my truck but broke off on it's own while I was driving. The part is called the Upper Grill Molding Part number 20863. It's about the size of a ski (5.5 ft long and 6 inches wide). It flew off and almost hit the car traveling behind me. They had to swerve off the road to avoid hitting it and almost got into an accident. After inspecting the part and how it is supposed to attach to the grill, it is apparent that is was very cheapy installed with flimsy plastic mounts and minimal glue. My truck only had 19,000 miles on it when this happened. I took it to the GMC dealer and they said the entire grill would have to be replaced because they don't sell that part separately. I researched this issue online and found thousands of other cases with the same scenario happening. This manufacturer's defect should be recalled as it poses a severe safety risk to pedestrians and other vehicles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | STRUCTURE | A large trim piece at the top of my grill flew off while driving 70+ on the highway. I have personally seen roughly 100 testimonies with picture proof on various fb pages of others with the same vehicle experiencing the same thing. This is a known issue for the 2022-2023 model years, GM has apparently corrected the issue for the 24+ model years. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | In the past 6 years I have owned 4 GMC 6.2L trucks the first was a 2019 no issues great truck. The second unfortunately had a Short life with another vehicle. In 2023 The third a 2021 Denali 6.2L truck at 34k began using oil and blowing blue smoke out the tailpipes. The dealer started an oil consumption test (like you couldn’t see it happening) so finally at 45k they tore down the engine and found worn out valve guides and scored cylinders. They ordered an engine the engine was installed and it failed in 25 miles come to find out it was not oiling on one bank, A second motor was ordered and installed it failed at start up. At this time it had been months that the truck was down. The dealer took a stand and moved me into a 2022 GMC AT4 with 6.2L with the hopes of removing the issue this truck was the internet sales managers truck that he had recently bought and had 15k on. We made the deal, well at 35k this truck begins consuming oil. The dealer once again starts the oil consumption test process. A couple of months ago. The truck now has 42k or so on it and on my last trip from Atlanta to Fort Walton after the dealer just topped it off 2 1/2 weeks prior to the first 2500 interval of the oil consumption test, the truck burned 1 1/2quarts in less than 2k miles and the oil warning light comes on as we arrive in Fort Walton. I would like a resolution to this, I have invested a lot of money into what should be one of the most reliable trucks on the road and all I hear is GM says it’s not met their threshold of a problem and you should expect to have to add oil to a truck with less than 45k on it and it’s not a problem. It’s already been proven with the 2021 that GM has a problem, I as well as the other 100,000 or so individuals with this same engine and GM knows it’s a problem with the quality of the engine build. GM has a quality issue and knows it but they are not addressing it, just making the consumer jump through hoops and not finding a fix in 5 yr's is bad | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | SUSPENSION | See attached document for complaint. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | This is the second time after already bringing in for service, while driving turning on the radio the volume goes to full volume with a Bose system it is ear piercing, none of the radio controls worked, I could not shut off the radio or turn the volume down it was locked at full volume. I had to stop in the middle of the road in Cambridge MA, Place in park, shut the engine off and open the drivers side door to shut the radio off, it took four attempts of restarting and stopping vehicle before the volume would return to normal. This is a severe SAFETY HAZARD THAT WILL EFFECT HEARING AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, I AM SO FED UP WITH THIS VEHICLE. I need to schedule another appointment for GMC to do nothing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | STRUCTURE | I was driving on the highway around 70-75 mph and the upper moulding on the grille flew off and hit the windshield | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Tailgate open/clise module continues to open without me hitting the auto release device in the truck OR fob. NOTE: GMC built in Quebec! It resulted in a call to the dealership this spring, an inspection and they indicated it was fine. The tailgate opened while I was parking my new Airstream and it caused damage to the propane tanks and tanks cover AND $1700 damage to my tailgate. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | This has now happened twice. While driving down the road, my radio has went to full volume and continues to go back to full volume, even if I twist the volume control knob quickly to lower the volume. This is a very scary situation while driving down the road and your radio goes to 100% volume out of the blue. There is no warning and the volume just goes to 100% | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | SUSPENSION | The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 80 MPH, the vehicle skidded approximately 100 yards; however, there was no impact to the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the front driver's side upper control arm and ball joint had fractured, causing the front driver's side wheel to become wedged beneath the subframe. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer advised the contact to contact the insurance company to have the vehicle inspected. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 40,000 |
| Aug 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | “Faulty fuel pump driver module” part Not available for inspection. Repaired at dealership and they kept the part. While driving 75 mph on the interstate during high traffic time my GMC Sierra 3.0 diesel truck engine shut completely down, not just once but on several occasions putting myself and three other in a life safety situation due to the traffic around us at the time. I had to navigate the truck through traffic and off the road. Once there the vehicle was turned off allowed to sit for a few minutes and restarted. The vehicle would restart and we continued only to have this scenario repeated again several times. Faulty fuel module was diagnosed by mechanic at dealership and replaced. Part was not inspected by no one to my knowledge except the mechanic. There was no prior warnings before this incident happened. After the incident the engine light came on with a message that stated check ESC. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | STRUCTURE | I was driving down the highway at 65 when the upper front hood molding flew off and bounced off my windshield. There were motorcycles behind me but none were hit. After researching on [XXX] , many others have had the same thing happen. This could have broken my windshield, or worse, hit a motorcyclist behind me causing a wreck. It has not been inspected but reported by many others on GMC forums. There was no warning whatsoever. | Aug 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While driving, I turned the volume on the radio a couple clicks louder using the steering wheel controls. After I stopped pushing the volume button on the steering wheel, it continued to rapidly increase volume until it maxed out. It was incredibly loud, in a panic, I verified the VOL+ button was not stuck. The VOL- on the steering wheel did not reduce the volume. I spun the volume button down, on the radio, but it would instantly return to full volume the moment I stopped spinning it. The power button on the radio also had no effect. I was driving at 50mph and had no way to reduce the volume from the max, which was incredibly distracting to say the least. I was finally able to get it to stop by pulling out my phone (which was connected via CarPlay) and hitting the pause button on my phone. Afterwards it behaved as normal, but my man did my ears hurt. Luckily there wasn’t any traffic nearby as I could hardly focus on the road while fumbling with the audio. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | The contact owned a 2022 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle went into safe engine mode and stopped. The vehicle attempted to restart without application multiple times. There was an abnormal grinding sound detected. The contact pushed the start/stop button, and thirty seconds later, the contact noticed white smoke from the engine, and the vehicle caught fire. There were no warning lights illuminated. The occupants were able to exit the vehicle. There were no reported injuries, crashes or police reports filed. the air bags deployed due to the fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The insurance agent conducted an independent investigation and found that the wire harness in the engine was hot and severed the fuel line. There was fuel in the engine. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was contacted, who took possession of the vehicle from the insurance company. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. | Crash: No Fire: Yes Towed | 30,000 |
