Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The tailgate is randomly opening during driving. I had some equipment fall out on a busy four lane road, I only knew because I had my window down and heard some clanging. I looked out my rear mirror to see tools going all over the road. I had to go back and close a lane with the truck and clean up everything in traffic before a crash was caused. It happened recently again, but luckily, my camper shell kept the gate up this time even though it was unlatched. I thought maybe the key fob, which has a button to open the tailgate, was being pressed. However, I just tested it in the parking lot, and the key fob does not work when moving (as it shouldn’t). No codes are being shown on the dashboard. The tailgate is actuated electronically by the computer, and there is no mechanical link or handle to open it.

The contact stated that her son had called while pulled over to inform her that the vehicle was driving rough with the check engine and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer had since closed, and the vehicle was then towed to Marty's GMC (5 Kingston Collection Way, Kingston, MA 02364); who confirmed that the engine needed to be replaced. Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The trim piece above the grill and below where the hood sits when closed failed/cracked at all attachment points (8 clips and 2 screws). This happened at highway speeds. The trim piece which is approximately 4-5 ft long and 3-4 in wide flew above the hood, struck the windshield and then flew behind the vehicle and may have struck another vehicle or motorcycle rider. This is a dangerous situation that could have injured or killed a motercycle rider if it had struck them. Apparently, based upon postings in forums and speaking with repair shops and the dealership this has happened a lot with this particular piece.

Nov 2024 STRUCTURE I was driving on the highway at approximately 65mph and the upper top moulding suddenly broke off, flew across my truck hitting my windshield, before landing in traffic. I had not had any previous damage to my truck prior to this incident. I am concerned this is a widespread issue that is creating an undue burden on the owners and potentially create unsafe conditions to nearby vehicles/pedestrians. I took my truck to the dealership as I have a warranty, but they refused to cover the cost of replacement.

Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The volume of my stereo went to 100% max volume, the only way to turn it down was to continue to turn the dial as it continued to go up in volume. Once I was able to get out of traffic and pull over I turned off my vehicle and opened my door to turn it off but when I restarted it happened again. I tried restarting again and waiting longer between and it went back to normal volume control. This has happened twice since, my hands aren’t on any controls when it happens.

Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The stereo turned all the way up and the sound buttons on the steering wheel plus the manual volume button were not responsive and it would not turn off. I turned the truck off and it still was on for 15 minutes. I turned it from Sirius XM to FM and then the volume worked but it hurt my ears and should never happen again.

Nov 2024 STRUCTURE I was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph, and the upper front trim from above the grill flew off, struck, and cracked my windshield. Based on my research, this is a very common problem and a serious safety concern for drivers of 2022-2024 GMC Sierras. It is also a safety issue to the general public for anyone traveling or walking near this vehicle when this condition occurs. There was also an article published on gmauthority website about this common issue as well as multiple Reddit posts and GM Forums.

Oct 2024 SUSPENSION vehicle has approximately 45k miles, We were 2.5 hours away from home on a paved highway driving 55mph and the front passenger side ball joint failed and upper control arm separated also Instantly no brakes causing an accident . This is very dangerous and is going to kill people , we are lucky we didn't roll . I'm now afraid this will happen to the other side? chevy will not take the responsibility to fix it , our extended warranty only covered the upper control arm and not any of the other parts that had damage due to the ball joint . it was a 2.5 hour tow as well . Also the tow truck driver said within a week this was the 4th Chevy truck with the same issue 2 of them Rolled . Side note , As I looked into this I haver found other of this same model vehicle to have the same problem , one that it happened at around 40k miles he fixed it then it happened again on the other side at around 50k miles on the same vehicle . There needs to be a recall , Chevy has other models that have had this recall but no recall for my vehicle? links to related proof there is a big problem [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) Crash: Yes Fire: No Unknown

Oct 2024 STRUCTURE Grille trim piece came detached while driving on freeway damaging hood. Could have flown off and hit another vehicle. Took truck to dealership and it was replaced under warranty. Seems to be a known defect, lots of other people with same issue on Reddit.

Oct 2024 STRUCTURE Driving down the road at 60 mph, the front upper grill piece just came off, flew up into the windshield and then over the cab of the truck and landed in the street. This is a known defect on these trucks and has happened in 100's of cases. When it happens it makes you react as if you had hit something with the truck, if there had been anyone behind me it could have also caused damage or made them react badly to something flying thru the air. When it happened to me I was prepared for it since I had read online of it happening to so many people. The cause is that its build with really flimsy, very thin tabs that just cant hold up to the wind speed and use needed for being mounted in the front of the vehicle.

Oct 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Rear tailgate would randomly fall down without any key fob buttons being hit. Did some Google searches and it sounds like it is VERY common. There is a faulty tailgate switch that will randomly drop the tailgate which could cause damage if you have a bike rack on or things could fall out of the truck bed while driving if it isn't noticed that the tail gate has dropped

Oct 2024 POWER TRAIN The transmission failed without warning. The truck jerked several times and wouldn't go forward, eventually stopping, putting the driver at risk of being hit or losing control. There were no warning lights or issues prior to this. It was towed to the dealer who knew immediately that the transmission valve body had failed. He said this is a known problem and in fact there was a service bulletin issued last year by GM. As of now he told us there are 2000 vehicles waiting for this part. The part has been redesigned because GM knew it was faulty. Our truck is still at the dealer waiting for the part after a month. Others have been waiting for months. GM is not allocating the part for current customers but instead putting the majority in new vehicles even though they know there are thousands of vehicles less than 3 years old on the road and putting people in danger! The rest of us are left without a vehicle. You are welcome to inspect our truck at the dealership where it currently sits.

Oct 2024 STRUCTURE The upper trim piece of the grille broke off while driving down the road the other day. The piece flew up onto the window creating a distraction to myself and the vehicles behind me. The problem can not be reproduced by the dealership as its broken in pieces on the side of the road. Based on internet research this is a common occurrence. The vehicle has not been inspected by others There where no warning signs, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure of the grille.

Oct 2024 STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Driving down the road and a large section of my grill came flying off the truck, hitting my windshield and the car being me. I pulled over as soon as it happened and the car that was hit kept going and did not stop. After a search on the internet it has brought up serval cases of this happening to other owners. This would of killed a motorcycle driver if he was behind me. We need action. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
