| Oct 2022 | SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was driving on the expressway when the engine suddenly slowed the car, I lost all ability to use the gas pedal. The deal found metal shavings in the engine leading to the engine being replaced. Prior to this I had several check engine lights that when the dealer looked at the vehicle, they simply reset them and told me all was ok. I lost all power on the expressway- all passengers in the car felt it and were terrified. In a separate incident also on the expressway I experienced a violent wobble and rattle of the entire car including the steering- I have a video of this as my daughter happened to catch it. It felt very dangerous and I had to slow to stop it. It happens when I hit a bump. This is a new vehicle with less than 10 K miles. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | STEERING,SUSPENSION | Vehicle steering is very sloppy and vague. Vehicle wanders on road, wind blows car out of lane, steering wheel has 5 inches of free play before tires are turned. At 55 mph vehicle went over road imperfection and I lost control of steering for a second - the car seemed to jump in the air. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while stationary at a traffic light, multiple warning lights were illuminated and the vehicle failed to shift out of park(P). The contact stated that a Police Officer assisted in manually moving the vehicle out of the street. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer but was informed that the location did not have an employee to service the vehicle. The contact then towed the vehicle to Garden City Jeep Chrysler Dodge Ram (283 N Franklin St, Hempstead, NY 11550:(516) 336-4712) where it was diagnosed with needing the hybrid battery replaced. The vehicle was repaired but failed to fix the vehicle. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,700. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 6,700 |
| Oct 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Early clutch failure | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | STEERING | Problem is the steering on my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4X4. Received the vehicle in August 2021 and immediately noticed a problem with its steering. After several visits to the dealership I was told they knew what was wrong that it was something about steering calibration. but they had no way to correct the problem because Jeep had not provided a mechanism for a fix. The best I can describe the steering problem is that there seems to be excessive steering wheel play, and wandering/drifting of the vehicle while driving requiring constant left to right and then right to left steering to keep the vehicle going straight in its traffic lane. The vehicle only has 3,000 miles driven. I am hesitant to drive on any expressway because of the unstable steering. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE | Vehicle loses power without warning. This has occurred numerous times, twice on a crowded freeway when I had to navigate across 5 lanes of traffic. Dealer was unable to isolate and repair the problem the first time. Vehicle is in for repair again. An internet search indicates this is not uncommon and at least two class action suits are pending. I'm shocked this life threatening fault has not already been reported to the NHTSA. Repair codes are : P1E1D control module improper wake up performance, U1817 Lost communication with hybrid powertrain control module on D-PT, U0293 confirmed, lost communication with hybrid control module. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | i was. driving on the FWY, when I pass the bridge, there is a small rupper bump. the car starts shaking vertically and starts to slow down in the middle of the Fwy. I try to speed up to pull over to the right, but no response, where I felt the gas peddle is not working at that moment. I was lucky there were not too many cars behind me on the Fwy. I went to the dealer and they say something about, dead throttle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | I pulled my Jeep into my driveway. I put the car in park with my foot on the brake. When I went to turn the car off, I heard a loud sound coming from the car. the car jerked forward, my foot still on the brake, and then it took off into the side of my house and garage. I tried to stop the car with the brakes and it wouldn't stop. After it hit the house, I looked down and the car was still in park. I had to restart the car as it shut off after hitting the house, I put the car in reverse and backed it up. When I put it back in drive the car wouldn't move. Only reverse worked. After an hour the car started working in drive. I had the car towed to the dealership. They told me that there were no error codes and that the care is fine. I now have zero confidence in this car. This is my fourth Jeep Wrangler and I never experienced anything like this. Has anyone experienced or heard of a similar issue? | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | AIR BAGS | Had an auto accident was going between 30-40 miles and the airbag did not deploy. I hit my breast and abdomen against the wheel and have multiple bruises and bruised ribs. I feel that if the airbag would have worked properly I would not have these types of injuries. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | STEERING | This vehicle was purchased new. From day one there has been concern with the steering on the Wrangler. There is excessive play in the steering of about one inch. As a result the vehicle wanders making it difficult to control. This behavior is most notable at speeds between 40 to 70 mph. Complaint has been made to dealership two times. First visit they indicated no trouble found. Second visit they said the behavior is normal. Bottom line; driving this vehicle is a safety risk. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | 4xe wrangler - driving for about 30 min in the pm when the red turtle symbol with the battery came on - 4xe had 20% battery and 3/4 tank of gas and could not switch from hybrid to eSave. 4xe went from full speed (45) immediately down 5mph to 0 mph a minute leaving us at the entrance of a local street (no shoulders). Dashboard said to place it in P and then select a gear - we placed it in P but was then unable to change gear (4xe was still in run mode). At this point everything locked up and after a Christmas tree dashboard light display the car went dark with only the hazards running. Had to use flashlights to make sure cars would not run into the back of the jeep Couple of minutes later our hazards lights also cut out. Towed to Dealership where they replaced the 12v as a resolution. After picking up the jeep i could not get it into electric mode, called the dealership who requested it back to pull codes. On the way back same exact issue happened again on a busy road. It's still at the dealership. Check out 4xe forum there are many reporting the same issue. I have had this car 16 months and have experience 3x the car suddenly dying with no electric but with a plenty of gas, once at 70pmh on a interstate and twice at 45mph | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | SEATS | The plastic seat position return broke on both sides. The passenger seat is now locked in a forward position and the drivers seat leans backwards. This was addressed TSB 23-020-19 for previous models but the problem continues. This creates a very unsafe condition for the driver and passengers leaving them stranded and harmed if it reclines while driving. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was driving home from a trip to the store. I stopped at a red light and all of the sudden I got a message that traction control failed, service charging system, and power train failure occurred. I had no power to move the car and the brakes barely worked. It told me to put it in park and restart the Jeep. I was able to roll downhill to the median out of traffic and put it in park and restart it. It seemed to work normally until I went another mile or so and it happened again. This time I was in motion and had a very difficult time stopping in the middle of traffic to put the Jeep in park and restart. This is a VERY serious problem and I’m very lucky it didn’t happen on the interstate. I am a member of two Jeep 4xe groups on Facebook and this is a reoccurring issue that is extremely dangerous. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started overheating. The contact was able to pull over where he waited for the vehicle to cool down, but the failure continued. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 4,800. | Crash: No Fire: No Towed | 4,800 |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | While driving on the freeway at about 70mph, my vehicle shut off completely and I had to pull over to the shoulder. While pulled over I was unable to restart the vehicle for about 45 minutes. Vehicle dash displayed “Service Transmission, E-Drive Unavailable, Charge system fault.” | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | STEERING | I have just over 27k miles on my jeep. It is a family vehicle and stays on road only. I noticed this last weekend that it is starting to suffer from the classic Jeep "death wobble" when driving on the highway under certain circumstances. Classic "higher speed" "possibly turn on a highway" and maybe the bumps of a bad road or a bridge transition and the front end shimmy's nearly uncontrollably. Was on the way to the dealership to get an oil change already. Asked them about it, he said it'd be nearly a month to get it diagnosed. Did some research, apparently this is an ongoing issue that is getting reported to Chrysler and the NHTSA already with possible "fixes" being replacement dampeners or a new steering box. I don't know what Chrysler will do at this time as the diagnosis date is in the future but... a replacement dampener seems to only bandaid the issue. The real issue is some other fault that wears the dampener down early. Replacing it or upgrading it only hides the fault. I believe they are making progress with the idea that the aluminum steering box stretches and needs to be steel but can't say 100%. What I do know is it's scary as hell when it happens and given that the jeep is already prone to a short wheelbase and higher center of gravity, any high speed steering uncontrollability should be considered critical and not "slowly looked at". | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,LANE DEPARTURE | I was driving down the freeway, came upon traffic which caused me to come to a stop. When the traffic cleared and I put my foot on the gas, the jeep refused to go forward and stalled out. I had just enough power to get to a safe area on the side of the freeway. My jeep flashed the D on the gear shifter and I got a notification to put the car in "park." On the control panel screen it showed "check charging system" and "check transmission." It also showed a message showing blind spot alert was disabled and the battery light. I had nearly a full tank of gas when this happened and at least 34% of electric left to drive on electric mode when this occurred. My Uconnect app showed the message "charging fault error has occurred" when this happened on the freeway. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | ENGINE | Went on a 1600 mile round trip from Florida to Pennsylvania. On the way back down to Florida my upper coolant hose busted and stranded me in South Carolina, 300 miles from Florida. Was on the side of the interstate with less than 20k miles on a new jeep. Thankfully no fire or anything started and the engine was close to blowing up. Only took about 45 seconds for the engine to over heat once the hose busted and I pulled over. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | SUSPENSION | The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH and going over a bridge, the contact felt the vehicle shaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the tires were rotated; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dampers where replaced; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was contacted and covered the repair under warranty. The failure mileage was 13,345. | Crash: No Fire: No | 13,345 |
| Jul 2022 | ENGINE | When starting the vehicle after sitting for an hour, there was a strong smell of a sweet substance and the cooling fans were running at full speed while stationary. Approximately 3 minutes later the vehicle stated the engine coolant temperature was 280 degrees Fahrenheit and to pull over. After pulling over and shutting off the vehicle on the side of the road, driver noticed a large puddle forming under the vehicle of pink color and was dripping from the front drivers side of the engine, at the water pump and coolant reservoir was empty. Vehicle was towed by Jeep roadside to nearest dealer who cant look at for a week. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | While driving the jeep it gets a error code that says Service Electric throttle body. I’ve owned the car for about 20 months. This is the fourth time this issue has happened. Seems to happen every 5 months or so. The first time they replaced the throttle body. Second time they replaced it again and had it back for one day and the issue popped up again. They then said they would replace it but it had to be something else since it was a brand new throttle body. They ended up replacing the PCM and I was without the Jeep for an entire month. This time I went in and they said it wasn’t the throttle body. So they cleared the codes and I went to pick it up, when I turned it on it tells me to service electric throttle body. I couldn’t even make it out of the dealership parking lot. When this issue happens. No matter what speed you are at it literally decreases your speed to 15MPH. Luckily I have never been on the highway when said issue has happened. It is a serious safety concern. This last time I had my two children in the car with me, my 2 year old daughter and my 1 year old son. I do not feel safe, or that this car is reliable. I have been reading forums about this said issue and I am not the only one having them. That is where I got the information to come here. I hope it is something you can look into. It isn’t a good feeling to buy a brand new car and not feel like it is reliable or safe especially with your small children in the car. Thank you for your time. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | POWER TRAIN | The clutch plate overheated, fragmented and destroyed my transmission on 6/22/2022 as I was driving on the Pennsylvania Turnpike at around mile marker 61, at a speed of 65 miles/hour. When I got on the turnpike in Monroeville Pa, I could smell a burning smell, but I figured that I was passing through an area where someone was burning something outdoors. Around mile marker 60-61 I started having difficulty keeping the RPM's up and my speed up to the speed limit. shortly after I heard a banging/clunking noise and I got off the highway. My Jeep was towed to Monroeville Jeep. Monroeville Jeep called the next day 6/23/2022 and said that the clutch plate overheated, fragmented and destroyed the transmission and it is not covered under warranty since the transmission did not fail. I had previously taken my Jeep in to Diehl Automotive on 7/19/2021 for recall #Y07/NHTSA 21V-028 to have the recall done. What happened to my Jeep on 6/22/2022 is exactly what the recall said would happen if I did not have the recall work done. In the weeks prior to 6/22/2022 I did notice the RPM's acting erratically but not being a mechanic I had no clue what was going on. other than that, there was no warning signs. There is now at least 30 other Jeep owners who had the recall done, some had both recalls done and the recalls failed to prevent the clutch plate from overheating, fragmenting and destroying the transmission | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2022 | SERVICE BRAKES, AIR,POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while at a stop light and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not drive forward and the gear shifter lights began blinking. Suddenly the vehicle would lurch forward and backward crashing into both the vehicles in the front and rear and a third parked vehicle before finally the driver was able to shift into park and turn the vehicle off. During the incident, the Stability Control, ABS, and Traction Control warning lights had illuminated. The vehicle was later driven to the police station but the warning lights were still illuminated. During the incident, no injuries were reported and a police report was taken. The manufacturer was contacted and later retrieved the vehicle for evaluation. No further information was available. The local dealer was also notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 15,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | 15,000 |
| Jul 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | When driving down the road the vehicle completely shuts down, comes to a sudden stop and service charging system message displays on the dash with no prior warning. After turning the ignition off and restarting the vehicle starts running perfectly normal. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
