| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | THE CAR STOPPES EVERY FEW WEEKS AND THE BATTERY NEEDS TO BE JUMPED, I TOOK IT TO GET THE BATTERY CHECKED AND NO ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND STARTER. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | STEERING,SUSPENSION | Death wobbles on a stock Jeep nothing at all has been changed on this vehicle. I am unable to take this vehicle anywhere without experiencing death wobbles. Dealership will be replacing the stabilizer, but many Jeep owners are telling me that this is not a fix and more of a band aid for the problem. I am seeing this same complaint over and again in Jeep Facebook groups. The bought this vehicle brand new and do not feel safe. This is extremely concerning on the freeway as well. This happens at around 45 mph 60mph and higher, I have to slow down to a complete stop for it to stop. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | STEERING | Loose steering and unsafe driving mannerisms secondary to poor aluminum steering gear from the factory. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | STEERING | While highway driving, at about 50mph making a very slight curve to the right the steering wheel began to shake violently left and right making nearly impossible to steer the vehicle. This has been called the “death wobble” among many people who have had this happen. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ENGINE | 2020 JEEP WRANGLER JL 3.6 CYLINDER IS LOOSING ENGINE COOLANT CAUSING ENGINE TO POTENTIALLY OVERHEAT. MANY FORUMS ARE REPORTING THIS AS A PROBLEM. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Drivers side sun visor fell from hinge and is hanging by electrical cords. Sun visor spontaneously and repetitively smacks driver every time it drops back out of mount. Resulting in an obstruction of drivers field of view when operating vehicle. Tried to make a service appointment with several local dealerships but all advised of this issue not being a recall therefore not knowing of such problem. There are several incidents documented online in forums by other owners of the same sun visor equipment malfunctioning but no address of such issue by manufacturer. Dealerships seem to handle this issue on a case by case basis. However, sometimes the dealerships are replacing the faulty sun visor with the same faulty sun visor assembly and components - recycling the issue again as a quick fix. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while coming to a stop at a stop sign or red light, the Stop/Start feature failed to function. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that a diesel exhaust component needed to be replaced because of a leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, and the contact stated that the Stop/Start feature was not displaying as active. The vehicle was then taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the auxiliary battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 24,000 |
| Nov 2022 | SUSPENSION | At highway speeds, when hitting a bump, the front end vibrates and becomes a unstable. The corrective action is slowing down and the speed limit, in traffic, until the vibration disappears. There's a known factory fix for this issue. The vehicle had the a new or replacement part installed during the summer. The issue appeared resolved until today (2022-11-25) when it occurred twice. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Shifter cables on my 2020 Jeep Wrangler have fallen off FIVE times leaving me unable to shift the car or drive it and it is necessary to pull over or coast over to the side of the road wherever I may be. The inability to shift is accompanied by a terrible burning smell. The dealership has attempted to repair it by putting the cables back on and by replacing the cables with new cables to no avail, the problem continues to occur. My safety and the safety of others is put at risk because the car is not able to function properly and maintain speed. Without warning this can occur and cause an accident on the road or highway. I have filed a Lemon Law complaint with the Jeep manufacturer. The problem has occurred FIVE times 3/29/22, 9/20/22, 10/14/22, 10/17/22, 11/22/22. All five times were without warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | STEERING | The jeep wanders down the road, on its own it moves from L to R or R to L. You have had 233 complaints about this model and 153 have been about steering problems. Do you think an investigation is warranted? This is now #154. No satisfaction form dealer. I guess no ones been killed yet so it’s a write off as a one off. This needs to be dealt with. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | STEERING,SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The vehicle begins to shake violently after hitting a sudden bump in the road causing the vehicle to become uncontrollable. This happens at speeds in excess of 40mph. We asked both the dealer and jeep to look at the issue and they said it was not covered by the warranty and there were no warning light indicators. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | One side of the The visor on the drivers side continues to fall out. Seems it’s a compression based design. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | Both drivers and passenger side sun visors have fallen off at the hinge with minimal use. Vehicle is under 60k miles and bought new. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I HAD THE REAR DEFROST REPAIRED AT THE JEEP DEALER UNDER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. THE FIRST TIME I USED THE REAR DEFROST IN COLD WEATHER AFTER THE REPAIR THE REAR WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. EXTREMELY LOUD EXPLOSION AND GLASS WAS EVERWHERE IN THE REAR SEAT AND BEHIND THE REAR SEATS. NOBODY WAS IN THE BACK SEAT THERFORE NO INJURIES. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | STEERING | The Jeep steering system allows it to wander down the road with occasional slight lock. On the highway it will move to the left and right and you need to continuously correct its path. While passing a large truck on the highway the wind can cause you to move several feet to the left. Sometimes there is a feel like the steering locks. When parked in the driveway the steering wheel moves 2.5” to 3” before the front wheel move It has not been inspected but will be today by a dealer. I was told by the sales dealership (a different one) that this was normal. There are no warning lights Yes the jeep can be inspected anytime | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the vehicle stalled. While using the Stop/Start feature, the vehicle stalled while in drive. The vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who informed her that the battery would have potentially exploded if she had continued to drive the vehicle. The mechanic noticed that the battery was smoking. The vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that the batteries needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure but no additional assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 45,000 |
| Oct 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | Both of the sun visors became loose and the driver side in particular will dangle down in front of windshield, blocking vision. This is a common defect on Wrangler JL/Gladiators that is the result of a design flaw in the retaining mechanism. This can happen without notice and while driving at any speed. For me it happened on interstate that the visor fell down, blocking my view. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2022 | AIR BAGS | The contact’s daughter owned a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an unknown speed, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger’s side of the vehicle and another vehicle crashed into the front driver’s side of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll three times. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. As a result of the air bag’s failure to perform as needed, the passenger sustained injuries to the chest and head, and also had a seizure. The contact’s daughter sustained an injury to the head and punctured lungs. Medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss by the insurance company. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 2 Medical attention | 15,000 |
| Oct 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | After stopping my Jeep on September 27th smoke was coming out of the engine immediately. There had been no warning lights on the dash or any smells from the engine. I got out and tried to open the hood and the engine was already fully engulfed in fire. Our Jeep had never had any engine trouble or been into the dealership except to have the oil changed. Upon doing my own investigation I have seen many of these fires. Something is definitely wrong with this engine. I could have lost my life. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | STEERING | I have had issues with the Steering Damper (?)/"Death Wobble" for months. I took it in to get fixed in Dec. 2021 and was told they couldn't replicate the problem to fix it. It happened twice the following day. It has been getting progressively worse causing uncontrollable steering and the jeep swaying all over the road. I've had to pull over, slow down or break just to prevent the Jeep from going off the road in an uncontrolled manner. I have now made a 2nd appt. to get this fixed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | POWER TRAIN | While driving on the freeway at 75mph in 2wd the rear axle locker comes on by itself. You will press the button to disengage it and it will just blink. Sometimes it will release, but will turn back on by itself. This is not safe and left my vehicle in a compromising condition. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | I had been driving my car off and on throughout the day without incidence. I stopped by the the grocery store and went in for a very short amount of time. I came out and cranked my car, it cranked as normal. I drove out of the parking lot into traffic and the car just started going haywire then shut off. Lights were flashing inside the car, the dash lights kept coming on and off, the wipers were moving even though they had not been on previously. I turned on my hazard lights and they would only illuminate in the front of the vehicle, but also intermittently. I had no means of warning other drivers, this occurred after dark. The car would not go into neutral so it could be pushed from the roadway. There were no warning lights to let me know anything was wrong. I had no indicators prior to this occurrence and was left completely stranded in traffic in the dark. I was told by the auto shop it was towed to that the issue was the auxiliary battery. This battery was causing a drain on the main battery and therefore shut down. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | My driver's side sun visor does not stay in place while driving and pops out of its holder, even if the visor is folded up out of the way and not being used. When the visor pops out of place, it hangs by the wires for visor mirror lighting. I purchased my vehicle new Feb 2020, and my vehicle currently only has about 10,500 miles. The visor began popping out of place around April/May 2022. The visor popping out of place is dangerous because 1) it happens WHILE driving, especially over rough roads, and this obscures my view of the road (!!!), 2) it has happened multiple times, unpredictably, and 3) I cannot use the visor to block out bright light while driving because it falls out if I fold down the visor, which makes it difficult to drive comfortably around sunrise or sunset. On August 15th, 2022 went to the dealer where I purchased the vehicle (Autonation Jeep Bellevue in Washington state) to get this problem looked at as my vehicle is still under warranty. The service center confirmed the problem, as mentioned in the invoice, and they mentioned they would have to replace the entire sun visor assembly. However, I have not heard back from the dealer concerning replacement as likely the parts are on back order. The pictures I provided are for the visor popped out showing the visor popped out of place when it was supposed to be in the folded up, out of the way position, and the folded down position as well as the hinge that seems to pop out of place. According to different forums of owners of Wrangler JL like mine, visors popping out of place are frequent problems, and replacing the visor with the same visor assembly only temporarily fixes the problem because replacement does nothing about the bad design that leads to the visor falling out of place. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | I was driving during the night and suddenly the driver sun visor fell apart I was driving on the freeway the windshield on jeeps is little plus the visor on the way was kind of dangerous I had to hold it whit my hand to be able to make it home now I'm just wondering if the dealer is going to cover the repair costs and put something better on place it really is a safety issue that needs to be fixed some how | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2022 | POWER TRAIN | Clutch pedal intermittently sticks when pressed to the floor. If you press and hold the clutch to the floor and release it slowly you can feel it bind up. 3 things normally happen. #1. It will stick to the floor #2. It will stick for a short time and as you raise your foot, the pedal will hit the bottom of your foot, jerking the jeep forward. #3 it does release as normal. I have taken the Jeep to the dealer last year 8/21 and they couldn't replicate the issue. However they reported a leaky hose that they replaced. I couldn't identify any hoses that were newly replaced. It has gotten progressively worse and now I can replicate the issue after a few attempts. When at a complete stop pointing uphill there is a risk of rolling back into another vehicle if the clutch doesnt engage. Transitioning from a complete stop to moving forward is not very smooth if the clutch pops up on its own. Sometimes it ends up in the engine stopping and having to restart the vehicle. The Jeep is available for inspection. I have tried to schedule another repair but waiting for a response from the Dealer. The Jeep has other recalls for the clutch and I believe all recalls have been applied to the vehicle. I have an email that I sent to the dealer with photos that I sent to the dealer when I first noticed this issue. I can also try to find the invoice from last year. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
