Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
Jan 2025 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE __ The present complaint alleges as follows: 1. Honda has a defective design in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2023. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the RADAR behind the large HONDA emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning, which disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the car (Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning). 3. The "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning cannot be reset by restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery, requiring recalibration of the RADAR at the cost of $800 each time since it takes several hours to do (per Dealership). 4. The official Honda Odyssey Forum online has countless complaints on the same issue without resolution by Honda. 5. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers since this defect impacts the vehicle's advanced safety features for which buyers incur additional expenses, endangering the lives of passengers. 6. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers by designing a system that requires continuous and substantial expenditures without resolution because it is an engineering problem, i.e., the placement of the radar behind the large, thick plastic H emblem obstructs the radar. 7. I hereby ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue and order Honda to offer a solution in the form of a RECALL that permanently addresses the problem.

Jan 2025 ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Several engine failures, starting one month after purchase in September 2020. multiple system failures (all on video) leading to very poor acceleration and operation. No compression in engine and only able to go 20 mph. White-Allen Honda made four attempts to solve the matter over the course of two years. The dealer has had the car a total of 120 days. Then end of December 2024 then engine began making a knocking sound and I was told it needed at new engine, to the tune of $10,000.00. Then I see a recall for a similar issue but only up to 2019 Odysseys. Please help find resolution for this.

Jan 2025 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE While driving on 12/20/2024 the 2020 Honda Odyssey started showing 5 warning lights (ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, & Auto High-Beam Problem) on the dashboard, along with the “BRAKE SYSTEM” light. After these messages and light popped up, the cruise control would not work. The crash mitigation system would not work (automatic breaking). The lane assist would not work as well. All of these safety features would not work which posed a combined severe safety issue to my family while driving the van, and those around me on the highway. After parking the van, I Googled these messages and saw that not only was this an issue with my model of Odyssey, but with several of Honda’s vehicles which use the same Monocular Camera. After getting my battery checked to ensure there was no low voltage issue (to which there was non and the battery checked out okay), I took the van to a Honda dealership. The Honda dealership performed a “Express Service Multi-Point Inspection” diagnostic test and told me on 12/23/2024 that the Monocular Camera was defective, which controls all of the safety systems listed above. On 01/02/2025, the Honda dealership replaced the defective Monocular Camera, to which they charged me full price for the Monocular Camera part itself and the labor to put the Monocular Camera in the Odyssey. Once the repair occurred, ALL of the messages and lights on the dashboard have cleared and all of the safety systems mentioned above are now working correctly.

Dec 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE After owning this vehicle for a little over a year without issues, I turned on the vehicle and randomly received the following five (5) error messages: Collision Mitigation System Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem (LKAS), Adaptive Cruise Control Problem (ACC), Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, and Auto High-Beam Problem. I realized that other Honda Odyssey owners have mentioned receiving the same error messages, especially around my year (2020). The believe all of the error messages are related to the same component - either faulty wiring, camera system, or install issue. The error messages come on every time I turn on the vehicle now. I live in Texas and the first day it occurred was especially hot - it first occurred in the summer months. It is now December with mild weather and the error messages still occur. It is worrisome because the Collision Mitigation System was among the safety features that contributed to us purchasing the vehicle.

Dec 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE I am writing to report a significant safety issue with my 2020 Honda Odyssey. The Front Assembly Assist Monocular Camera (OEM part 36160-THR-C01-M1) has failed, causing the loss of several critical safety features, including auto high beam, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). The local Honda dealership diagnosed the issue as an internal fault in the camera unit. Through research, I have discovered this failure is not an isolated incident. Numerous reports from other Odyssey owners highlight similar issues with the camera leading to the deactivation of these safety features. For example, discussions on the Honda Odyssey Forum and other online platforms describe widespread failures of front-camera-dependent systems, including lane-keeping and collision avoidance features. These failures compromise vehicle safety, potentially increasing the risk of accidents. The camera’s malfunction disables essential systems designed to enhance driver awareness and prevent collisions, leaving drivers vulnerable in critical situations. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this issue, as the consistency of these reports suggests a systemic problem. A recall or corrective action may be necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of these vehicles. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Dec 2024 BACK OVER PREVENTION The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the back-over prevention camera and cross-traffic monitor were inoperable. The cross-traffic monitor not functioning message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who confirmed that the vehicle had been repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V438000 (Back Over Prevention). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

Dec 2024 POWER TRAIN While driving on highway, 3 hours away from home, all of a sudden van slowed down and jerking and shaking with loud grinding movement sound from the van started. No warning sign displayed on the dashboard display screen and no warning alert either. Luckily got out of the exit and parked the van. Van was not going beyond first gear and jerking and shaking and making loud grinding sound. Van was not drivable safely. Towed to the local Honda dealership which was 30 miles away. Dealership checked the Van and diagnosed that the 10 speed Automatic transmission has failed and need a new transmission now. There is no warning sign or error on the dashboard display and any warning alert even after this incident happened. I am very disappointed that such an expensive van has no good warning sing or alert system for transmission failure, even though vehicle has computer to monitor every small thing but no good warning system for most expensive automatic Transmission system. This is total lack of care and failure on the part of manufacturer Honda, which did not put some good warning system on these defective automatic transmissions. These sudden failures can cause catastrophic accidents on the highways and roads. This sudden failure of transmission should have been a recall for defective manufacturing of 10 speed automatic transmission in Honda Odyssey van.

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE I have less than 35k miles on my car and I have 5 warning that appeared out of no where. My car has never been in an accident and I take care of it. I searched on YouTube and apparently this is very common issue. It cost $3500 to fix and needs to be with a dealer. The 5 warnings are Issue with car 1) Lane keep problem assist, 2)auto-high beam problem, 3) road departure mitigation system, 4)adaptive cruise control, 5) collision mitigation system, The car is 4 years old and should not have this problem but a lot of people who own the same exact model have tge same issue. Honda needs to do a recall and fix it for free

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I just started up the car one morning and had multiple sensor warnings. Brought it to the Honda dealership and told it was an internal sensor camera malfunction and wanted $2000+ to fix it. This honestly should be a recall as I’ve had several other Honda owners complaining about the same thing which is a huge safety concern

Dec 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE All of a sudden warnings appear related to Collision Mitigation system Problem Lane Keeping Assist Problem Auto High Beam Problem Adaptive cruise control problem Road departure mitigation problem This is a major issue. I don’t feel safe driving this car with my family. Therefore NHTSA should get Honda to issue a recall for this vehicle given the magnitude and sheer scale of the problem. Below is one of many such forums where people who model years 2018-2020 have the exact same problem. https://www.odyclub.com/threads/lkas-acc-collision-avoidance-auto-high-beam-problem.373456/page-2?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest

Nov 2024 SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE Car was operating fine on the way to a game on 11/25/2024. Parked and went inside to watch game. After the game I went to my car and when I cranked it all the warnings below came on. **Auto High Beam problem **ACC problem **Brake System problem **LKAS problem those are the warnings I can remember. I immediately cut the car off and walked around to see if maybe I had been hit while parked cause something told me it could be a camera issue with the LKAS problem ‍♀️. I had not been hit. The car was fine and just as it was when I parked it. I cranked it again and the lights were still on showing problems and stayed on. I took it to the dealership and they said it's the multi-purpose camera malfunction/went out and needs new one.

Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE Several times over the last 18-24 months my van has 'stalled' after the auto engine start/stop feature restarts my car. This has mostly happened while at stop lights/signs, or idle. However, it has happened twice while driving, my car will just die and slow dramatically. I have been able to restart by pushing the start/engine button. There has been two times where restarting (while idle) has not worked. Most recently it happened while at a stop light. when the light turned green I went to accelerate and the van would not move, all the dash lit up, and there was no power to the engine. It took several minutes to get the van restarted, holding up traffic and causing me panic and fear that I could be hit.

Oct 2024 ENGINE I was driving with cruise control on and a car pulled in front of me and hit the brakes. My car reacted by hitting the brakes hard and the engine tried to recover but hiccupped and lost power and engine light flashed at me. I pulled over and when I started the car again there was a rattle that would get faster if i pressed the throttle. I was able to get back on the road and the throttle rattle was still there and now it started saying engine oil low. I pulled over, checked dipstick and it was fine. Engine oil low light continued to flash, so I went to a oil change place to have them look and change the oil and they reported nothing wrong. I left and continued driving and the rattle noise was still there, engine oil low was still there. Then i heart a loud pop and griding noise, lost all power and had to pull over. This time the car was dead. I had it towed to a mechanic who said had to be an internal defect in the engine from the factory.

Oct 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MY GUAGE CONTROL WENT BLACK (It's the screen behind my steering wheel that tells me how many miles the car as, the odometer and speedometer (now don't know my speed!) and has maintenance info that is missing from my view now too! This is a serious safety issue! It also activates cruise control. They want to charge me $2K to replace it. The car is a 2020 with about 32K miles on it! And charged me a $180 diagnostic fee. Incidentally, the radio screen went black a few days later, but when I pressed the brightness button, it came back on. BTW, there is a little stick in front of the screen (maybe for the clock?) and it just spins and spins. Maybe that is simply broken and the brightness is turned down all the way? Though they stated the guage control needs to be replaced entirely. There is not a safety recall on this presently for my VIN and no software updates.

Oct 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The navigation/ radio / rear view camera just resets multiple times while driving, sometimes it happens more frequently than other days. Message that comes up is: Network Communication Lost. Researched online and tried to resolve via software update but seems to made it worse. Reluctant to take to the dealer as warranty has expired and more importantly, blogs show that the issues have never been resolved even after dealer. Wiring harness replacement didn’t resolve.
