Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
Jul 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE On 6-11-24 The warning lights cycle through Auto Highbeam problem Lane Keeping assist Adaptive Cruise Control Collision Mitigation System problem Road departure Mitigation System problem Earlier in the day I had maintenance at the dealership performed on my car: brake fluid , trans svc,new tires and alignment, oil change and rotate tires, ac filter change, air cleaner element replaced. I went back to dealer on 7-1 and was told it was a multi purpose camera failure. This had not previously occurred until immediately after the maintenance work was performed.

Jun 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE After the last recall I had corrected by Honds, I started having issues with my LKAS system. The following notifications started coming periodically and now they always come on every time i start my 2020 Honda Odyssey. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Collision Mitigation System, Road Departure Mitigation System, and Auto High-Beam. The local Honda dealership quoted $1400 for a new camera.

Jun 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE The Auto-Idle Engine system malfunctions constantly. For example, several times I almost got into dangerous or possibly fatal accidents- I was in stop and go traffic on an interstate. Traffic slowed to a stop. I held the brake. The engine idled. I took my foot off the break and moved it to the gas when the traffic abruptly restarted. The car stalled and shut down. The cars around me expected me to go and had to swerve around me while I desperately tried to restart. There is no way to set a default that the auto idle feature is off when I start the car. I have to remember to turn it off. This also happened at an on ramp with a stop light, I almost got rammed by the car behind me. This feature is a drain on the engine and battery and is dangerous when it is not working correctly. The default should be off or just not have it at all. Honda dealerships aren’t willing to help me.

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER The rear lift gate fails to hold in the up position, the powered lift gate subsequently and randomly closes on its own without any driver intervention. The powered lift gate closed on me while I was retrieving groceries, almost crushing me had I not forced it back up by force. This has happened multiple times and could be lethal to a child or even an adult. The vehicle only has 39,xxx miles and has been used lightly as a family vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection by NHTSA officials. Additionally, I have seen other vehicles with the same problem video taped on YouTube. Such links can be provided to investigators. Honda should recall these vehicles and disable the automatic closing of the lift gate that is occurring without any driver intervention. It is beyond reasonable to assume this fault can be lethal or cause serious bodily injury.

Jun 2024 FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while attempting to move from a stop, the brake pedal was released, and the engine stalled. The vehicle was restarted, and the vehicle was driven to the destination. In addition, the contact stated that on several occasions, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated. The contact stated that the collision detection system warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was requested to provide a diagnostic fee. The dealer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION The contact owns a 2020 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the instrument panel failed to display any information and the rear-view camera failed to display an image. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the gauge control unit. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V439000 (Back Over Prevention, Electrical System), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Jun 2024 SUSPENSION,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Three times now our 2020 Honda Odyssey's entire instrument and infotainment system has gone out - both screens at the same time just don't turn on. Which means we have no MPH gauge or back up camera. It is extremely unsafe to drive without a speedometer and we paid extra to get a van with a backup camera and now we don't even have that. We've taken it to Honda and are getting charged to replace the entire system, even though it is clearly a connection issue (since it turns back on by itself). On the exact same vehicle, the entire right rear shock is completely blown out and needs replaced. Both happened with no warning. Honda is not helping on a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it.

May 2024 STRUCTURE The rear hatch door closed with me standing under it and I injured my arm trying to stop the door from closing on me. The door will not stop closing even with a person there. This is very dangerous! The mechanic said that we need to replace the rear struts- this car is only 3 years old!

May 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE The design defect of the camera in front of the car seriously affects the life safety of the driver. The dealer did not pay attention to this problem. The car did not collide, but six error prompts appeared during driving: Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Auto High-Beam Problem.

Apr 2024 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Our vehicle is only a few years old and the front camera failed. It will not do any Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, etc. Honda refuses to cover this even though it is a manufacturer defect.

Apr 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Power tailgate module exposed to water due to manufacturer defect in sealing above module. causing various electrical systems to fail including safety features. I do have the damaged module. Tailgate opened and wouldn’t close, when car in motion. Unable to use vehicle, the amount of electric items, due to fear brakes or transmission would fail while driving minivan full of young children Vehicle had warning light shortly after heavy rain. Was intermittent.

Apr 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Auto idle stop. When the auto idle stop is on, when the vehicle is stopped at a light or due to traffic the vehicle while in drive will completely turn off. Unable to hit the accelerator to move as designed. We have to restart the vehicle and sometimes it takes multiple restarts. Extremely unsafe since we are unable to keep up with traffic. It has happened multiple times without warning. We have to make sure make a point to keep the auto idle engine turned off, but when you turn the car on it is automatically turned on. Called Honda, no recalls on this issue.

Apr 2024 LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE At random the following would come on when driving or when starting the vehicle up. It would also reset itself at random. Very scary when you have small children in the van. 1.Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) 2.Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) 3.Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) 4.Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) 5. Auto head lights The vehicle has not been in any collision. This started after a required update was installed. The code reader scan code does not match what is being stated. When you are using the cruise control then it would turn off. Brake warning will not work. The cable harness for the audio for the entire van was redone last Summer 2023

Apr 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,BACK OVER PREVENTION We bought a used 2020 Honda Odyssey, and a few months after buying this vehicle, the infotainment screen blanked out and the vehicle information screen also blinked out. This occurred at the same time with no warning whatsoever. I just turned on the car, and none of the screens came on. These screens are the ones that show the mph, our mileage, cruise control, etc, and also the screen that shows the back up camera, in car calling, back up alert system. None of that works anymore. We made an appointment to take it to a Honda dealership and a few days later it flickered back on and so we did not keep the appointment. Just a month and a half later, it happened again and this time it has not come back on for over a month. We took it to the dealership and were charged $200 for them to tell us it was something wrong with the Honda computer system and the whole thing would need replaced and we would be charged $1800. This is on a barely 4-year-old vehicle & we did not have the money to replace a defective system. So we have been driving without a mph display. We put our phones up on the dashboard and try a GPS MPH app, but it is wildly inaccurate, and it is a major safety concern because we have no idea what speed we’re going and we have to guess. This is a car with low mileage and barely 4 years old!! We paid a lot of money for the back up camera, in car calling, and extra features like that specifically for the safety of those features. And now we’re being told that basically they can’t find the problem and we have to pay $1800 for those rather high-priority safety features like knowing how fast you’re going. I also have a newly licensed teenage driver and another who will get her temps in 2 months. I can’t even let them drive our vehicle because they certainly don’t have the experience necessary to drive with no speedometer. We live in a state that doesn’t allow handling a phone in any way. This vehicle helped me comply with that & now I must use a phone to show my mph

Mar 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE Adaptive cryise control, collision mitigation system, road departure mitigation system, lane keeping assist, auto high beam all have errors and are not working. It happened without cause. Apparently it isn't uncommon for radar and sensor safety systems to just fail for no reason. The dealer said it could take several days to figure out the cause then a lot of money to fix it. The safety systems should not fail for no reason.

Mar 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM When trying to close Rear sliding doors it just beeps once it gets half way closed then it gos back open and it won’t close unless you turn off automatic mode to manual and you have to physically Very hard to close them and they are very hard to open like very hard to open and close so if you don’t have the strength and it happens to you your screwed or stranded with your little kids and specially if you don’t live in a great neighborhood that can be very scary and from what I’ve researched online that on the Honda odyssey it is a very common issue and Honda just wants you to spend 1500$ to fix it and from what I’ve seen it’s either the cable or the motor or the rollers apparently it’s very common for the motor and the cables to die and break and if you call the Honda dealer, they know exactly what the issue is that’s how common it is. I definitely believe it should be recall. And I believe in my opinion, that’s a major safety issue

Feb 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER A latch inside the driver door of the car broke and my husband was unable to exit the vehicle. There was no reason for this part to break, no collision or rough use of the door. We just drove from our home to our destination without incident and the door would not open when we arrived. The dealership had to replace the broken part.

Feb 2024 AIR BAGS In 2020 I was driving in Sequoia national forest and hit a small pothole/erosion hole in front of a gate at approximately 2-3mph. I slightly bottomed out the car. The airbags deployed. Mild abrasion friction burns on my wrist. My wife's airbags in the passenger seat also deployed, but since we had zero forward momentum they didn't even contact her. I was told by Honda that this is my fault and that their airbag system only deployes when it should, and ultimately just filled an insurance claim. I was extremely ignorant of how not road safe my car was, and drive it home. The car was towed for repairs. I just recently learned about this complain line, so I'm submitting now in early 2024.

Feb 2024 AIR BAGS My 2020 Honda Odyssey started showing SRS problem error on its 4th year of ownership. Since it’s not under warranty after 3 years I spent close to 1k to replace SRS computer module by dealership from where I purchased my car. Same error came back a month later and again I took it to dealer and they said it has loose connection on cable and fix the loose connection. About a month later SRS light came back again and then I took it to dealer and he said connection is good but one of the connector is not sending the signal to SRS module. They asked me to replace entire SRS module wiring which will be around 4k which might resolve this problem. I reported this problem to Honda Corporate and waiting for their response. Since it is SRS problem, I am more concern to drive the my car with Kids. If I meet an accident and airbag won’t deploy then it will be risk for me and my family.

Jan 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The heads up unit, navigation and audio system completely shut down after Network connection lost message. This started happening after recall of a cable, before it was fine, same cable was replaced under warranty a year ago. The problem is reproducible, simply driving vehicle and hitting a bump on passenger/right side cases the system to malfunction, disconnect audio, and eventually whole system shutdown and restart. I will take this back to the dealership but electronics in Honda Odyssey has been unreliable and feels like a safety risk.
