| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 2025 | ENGINE | While driving down road at around 60mph 6.2L engine started to make loud knocking noise and shaking violently while loosing all power. Truck had 79,797 miles on it at the time with all oil changes and service done at GM dealership. After having GM dealership diagnose truck, it was determined to have a spun rod bearing, causing multiple other engine components to fail. Truck was not under factory warranty and was quoted $12,200 to replace. There were no warning lights or any known issues until this incident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Purchased not thinking there would be issues as truck was clean and well kept. Month and a half later torque converter went bad. Had it replaced under warranty, however, I have more symptoms from when it originally started. 6 speed transmission. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While changing a blown fuse for the instrument cluster, my truck unexpectedly caught fire, endangering my safety and causing significant damage to the vehicle. The fire started behind the passengers side fuse box within the wiring harness (GM# 84717166). The dealership determined that the failure was due to wire harness chafing on the thread side of a tie bar bolt. Due to General Motors not responding to their request for repair information via the TAC, they concluded that the bolt needed to be shorten in order to reduce the chafing. There were no warning signs or indications that this was going to or could occur. The burnt harness is available for inspection but the vehicle has been traded in due to no longer trusting how it was manufactured. | Crash: No Fire: Yes | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Purchased a 2020 Silverado 1500, 5.3L 4x4 with 8,000 miles. Now at 66,000 miles the torque converter is bad. Shudders, hard shifting, lunges into gear, won’t go into reverse at times. MULTIPLE complaints with these engines. There’s a recall, but it stops at 2019….. WAKE UP GM!! This problem is still ongoing from 2020-2024!!! Needs to be another recall | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission shuttering when driving | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | STEERING | While driving down the highway, the ball joints on the front passenger side prematurely failed, causing loss of vehicle control, significant damage to steering and braking components and body damage. Diagnosis is being confirmed by an independent service center. No symptoms of premature wear or imminent failure were noted. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Rear window leaks water into the cab during rain, snow, car wash, etc. GM refuses to abide by comprehensive warranty to fix the issue, and my dealership wants to charge around $1,000 just to apply sealant. Water goes into and behind the rear seat (where my child sits) and goes to unknown area. Water can cause rust, mold, electrical problems, or any other number of issues. I noticed it around November of 2024 but I don’t know how long it has actually been occurring for. When researching this issue, appears to be relatively commonplace for my year and style of vehicle. Even the GM techs at my dealership acknowledged it is a recurring issue that may require MULTIPLE visits before getting a permanent solution (replacing the entire window). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2025 | LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES | The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds in inclement weather including while driving in rain or slushy snow, the tailgate inadvertently opened. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the tailgate switch needed to be replaced due to water intrusion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 14,000 |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The rear wheels lock and most of the time its hard shifting/ or it feels like it struggling to shift to the next gear | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | First incident was when the vehicle had under 7,000 miles. Transmission module went. Vehicle wouldn't move. A few months prior, when we pulled our camping trailer, the integrated brake didn't work and the truck brakes overheated. Took vehicle to dealer, couldn't find a problem. A few months later the truck would not move, and found to be the transmission module. After a month and they finally got the part and repaired, no problems with pulling the camper. Than last week, we pulled out on the road, and we couldn't accelerate. A little over 45,000 miles on it. Had towed to dealer, they have diagnosed Transmission Valve Body. No warning lights. Maybe the transmission was hesitating some before it went. Waiting for the part, which no clue how long it will take. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 8L90 transmission failure at 40,000 miles and I am now at 90,000 miles with the same issue. I have been working on this truck tirelessly tried to fix the transmission. I’ve had 3 transmission fluid replacements and a full torque converter replacement. General Motors knowingly sold these models to consumers when the transmission was faulty and underperforming. It shudders, shakes, and slips while driving. It’s almost caused me to get into a few accidents. I just want compensation and to be a part of the class action lawsuit they are being filed upon. | Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | about a month ago, began with a shutter or studder at low speeds. Became worse and a vibration on the interstate as it sounded like i was driving over rough ground. have now seen two mechanics in person and talked to another on the phone and all are saying the torque converter needs to be replaced. the check engine light has not come on which is also a concern as this is a major issue. safety concern is getting on the interstate into traffic and difficulty accelerating. experienced a lockup and swerve when accelerating up a hill which is very scary as my children were in the car. this is a 2020 silverado 1500 purchased new from dealership with 105k miles | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | Driving at the speed limit 65-70 miles ph my truck started to slow in speed the tire sensor came on then the truck began to smoke and the brakes locked up at a high speed, lucky for me there was no one behind me. I was able to limp to a safe spot and park the truck would not MOVE at all..After an hour I tried to move it again it would not go into drive. Had to tow it to the dealership..$$$$ later they say well we can't recreate the problem so it's drivable. I drive 2 blocks and it stops in traffic almost causing a collision. Had it towed home and for 3 moths now it has sat while I have to continue paying payments on a NON running 2020 with only 102 thousand miles on it this is CRIMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was told possible $62k to repair but no guarantee it would stay fixed!!!!!!!!!! Criminal and should not be on me I am paying still. But if something is not done I will let it get repo..I am [XXX] old this was to be my last newer vehicle I have had to borrow money again and bought an older 03 silverado that is running great. | Dec 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Fuel pump module failure. Car stop working while driving. Immediately downshifted to a lower gear and would no longer drive above 10mph without shutting down | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ENGINE | Main bearing on crankshaft when out | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard an abnormal sound emanating from the rear end suspension. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that fuel leak from the fuel delivery system resulted corrosion of the left side leaf spring grummet. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the brake pad sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 32,000 |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | The specific issue that is being recalled is malfunctioning on my vehicle. I have taken to the dealership but they won’t help because the solution hasn’t been identified. My truck has suffered repeated failures resulting in excessive wear and tear on the transmission. I’m afraid a catastrophic failure will occur if I have to keep driving, without a solution. The dealer simply cleared the code. They should replace the part that is failing at a minimum. Even if it might happen again down the road. They will have a solution by then. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Dealership attempting to sell a vehicle with an open recall was more than prepared to let me drive and potentially sell a vehicle with a recall open causing the rear tires to randomly lock up. Made problem known to salesman and said they'd take it off the market. Now, they lowered the price by $2600 as it was previously listed at $25,571, now listed at $22,971. Listing still not down. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | POWER TRAIN | This vehicle, only 4 years old, experienced lifter/engine failure during normal operation, which required unsafe driving conditions and a roadside emergency. The vehicle was towed to the service location, where a complete engine disassembly took place, and required a 3 week repair period. The truck experienced a rough idle/shudder at a stoplight, then proceeded to show a flashing check engine light (P0305), a service emergency brake warning, and a service traction control warning. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | Brake system lights on dash came on as well as the check engine light. Park light was flashing on the dash. Safety is at risk as parking brake does not work. Took vehicle to dealer and they ran diagnostics. Codes: c0610 05, c0616 5a as per document id: 5709204. They said I need a new Brake System Control Module. Brake System Control Modules are on backorder. Brake System Control Modules have been recalled on Silverados in the past. I'm worried that this is unsafe | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ENGINE | My vehicle only has 20k miles on it and I’m already replacing a lifter and camshaft due to the active fuel management system. At the time of taking my truck in there are three other trucks for the same issue. This is known issue at my dealership and this time I’m covered under warranty, but they told me to be prepared to repair this again and next time will be out of warranty and around 5k to repair. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,SERVICE BRAKES | While driving, the vehicle began experiencing hard shifting. When I attempted to accelerate to pull over, the vehicle failed to respond and instead sounded as though it was in neutral. Additionally, when I tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, it took longer than usual, as if the wheels were locked. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
