| Dec 2023 | ENGINE | In October 23, 2023, The Honda Pilot Touring 2019 activated the alarm system alone. When I attempted to stop the alarm the unit did not stop and start blinking. It displayed the codes keyless start system problems and auto engine idle system problem. The unit drained the battery. It was replaced by a new one and it showed the problem again in October 24, 2023. The unit turned ON alone the alarm, control panel motor fans and I was unable to turned Off the unit. The only way to turned Off the unit was disconnecting from batery. On October 24, 2023, the car was sent to the Honda dealer and the diagnostic was problem with the control module part 38320TG7A91. As of today I still waiting for repair due to part backorder. Neither the part is available in Honda part supplier in US. Why? It has been a part recall from supplier? Did Honda knows already of this part problem? I want to issue a safety complaint because the Honda Pilot turned On alone due to these problems (codes) described above while I was out of home. This must be investigated since the unit did not turned OFf unless battery is disconnected. In addition I have been waiting since October for repair while the unit is in a parking lot. I trusted in Honda when I adquired this car. Also, all maintenace have been provided by Honda dealer in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I never expected this type of problem in this car. A Case was opened and no response has been received yet. There has been many incidents reported on internet with the same problem in Honda Pilot. Is there is any additional information, please contact me. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Experiencing Judder/hesitation when car reaches a speed where it has to shift from first to second gear and from second to third gear. Sometimes it feels more like a jerk. Issue mostly occurs after the car has warmed up, so after around 3-4 miles of driving the car. Second issue was RPM fluctuation when car is at steady acceleration. Judder issue first occurred back in June 2022 when the car has ~63000 miles. It started with a sudden jerk, felt like someone hit the car from behind, this happens when the car is trying to shift from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. Issue was very intermittent at that time and restart of car would make it go away. But issue will come back every few weeks. Issue increased around ~68,762 miles, so took the car to my local auto repair shop on 8/31/2023. The shop performed maintenance listed below – •Transmission Flush / Fluid ATF DW-1 / Transmission service •Oil Change •Differential Front and Back Service/Flush •Cooling system Flush and new anti-freeze •Fuel Injection Service Issue was still ongoing, so decided to take the car to Honda Authorized service center on 9/27/23, they were able to duplicate the Judder experience and performed snapshot and diagnosed car and advised vehicle needs torque converter. Wanted to go for second opinion, so scheduled an appointment with another Honda service center, they informed me that the transmission fluid was very dark and performed the flush of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) 3 time. Issue frequency has reduced after the flush, but every few weeks the car experiences Judder/hesitation while shifting and usually turning off the engine and back on helps resolve the issue. All this while no engine lights came on. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Vehicle was turned off and in park and it rolled backwards down the driveway. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | ENGINE | Experiencing what I believe to be a low idle misfire around the 1200 to 2000 rpm’s. I don’t know whether this will lead to an engine failure at a crucial time in traffic. I have 50k miles and this has been reoccurring since 35k miles. Blogs has suggested that this is a common problem with this model. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | SUSPENSION,ENGINE | Start/Stop malfunctioning. If activated engine stops and have to physically restart. This is dangerous because can happen in redlight, stop sign, or random. Rear suspension is rough, bumpy and unstable. Yesterday almost lost control going over rough spot in the freeway. Complained numerous times to dealer and opened case with Honda of America. They simply ignore the issue. Many people having the same problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | My vehicle has completely shut-off numerous times after stopping at a stop light or stop sign while my idle stop option is on. I biught a new battery, which did not resolve the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 1. Component: The backup camera screen is purple and green. It would be available for inspection. 2. Safety: It makes it very hard to see everything around the vehicle when backing up. This has been happening consistently for approximately one month every time we put the vehicle in reverse. 3. We have not taken the vehicle to the dealer for it, knowing they will charge for the diagnostics. 4. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance, etc. 5. There are no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem. The issue first appeared in October 2023. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Backup camera malfunctioning. Display on infotainment screen shows vibrant colors, impairing visibility, only when in reverse and using the backup camera. All other screen displays are working normally. The vibrant coloring and overall visibility fluctuates pending how bright the sunlight is and how hard it is raining. I just went to my local Honda dealership (Price in Camden, DE) today to have the cable recall taken care of and confirmed the backup camera coloring is NOT a cable issue, but likely a camera issue. This is indeed a safety issue and I have seen across many online forums that others with 2019 Honda models report the same problem, with the cable recall not providing a solution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | the moonroof malfunctioned and came off of the track. I could not close or open it. we brought the car into Honda. They also had problems closing the moonroof, and had to manually force it closed. they werent sure if its the track or the cable or motor. They asked me what I did to cause this.. I said all I did was press the button to open it. it opened and made a crunchy noise when I pressed the button again to close it. there were no warnings , symptoms of this problem prior to it coming off of the track. my car was 6 months out of warranty. the cost of the repair was $4000, Honda customer service was contacted and they agree to pay 40% of the cost , so the repair cost me 1475.39. ive heard from other Pilot owners of this occurring . 3 of the other owners had this repair done FREE, out of warranty.... Its not like its something I caused.. I just pressed a button and failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Rear cross-warning and back-up camera image is blurred by extreme colors which impairs visibility when viewing the info screen. This appears to be a common problem with the camera as reported by many other 2019 Honda Pilot owners. Vehicle is out of warranty (53,000 miles). Honda should issue a recall based on the current number of malfunctions reported on the [XXX] " website for this vehicle. | Nov 2023 | POWER TRAIN | 2019 Honda Pilot EX-L with 52K current miles. Very jerky and rough transmission gear shifts from 1st to 2nd especially noticible on the upshift. It shakes the whole car to the point driver and passengers are startled. It does not happen all the time, but when it does occur, the car must be pulled over, the engine turned off and restarted to make the problem go away, which might indicate that it is a programming/electronic issue. If the car is not restarted, the problem persists. Started noticing this problem around the 37K miles, but got worse and more often to the point at 38K the car was taken to a Honda dealer to address the problem. The dealer suggested a transmission fluid replacement, and it was done at my cost. The problem has now returned at 52K current miles. It took two restarts to stop the jerking this time. The transmission fluid was checked upon return to my home and it is still good, red in color, not black. This is a serious and reoccurring problem which needs to be addressed as soon as possible. If the transmission breaks down during driving, it might cause a crash and resulting injuries. Thank you. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | The driver side and passenger side sun visors hinge mechanism does not operate properly. The visors do not fold up completely and are difficult to fold down to block sunlight. This is a known problem with Honda Pilot sun visors. I purchased my 2019 Honda Pilot new. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle inadvertently shut off after releasing the brake pedal. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the starter was replaced twice; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was determined that the flywheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE22005 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 100,111. | Crash: No Fire: No | 100,111 |
| Nov 2023 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | failed torque converter/software results in car surging during moderate acceleration. This is unsafe when vehicle will not accelerate properly under load. The problem was repaired by the dealer who indicated this issue to be a widespread problem with this car. There were no warning messages. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | My 2019 Honda Pilot is repeatedly having problems, when the vehicle is started and running, first thing in the morning. There is hard jerking when the vehicle is shifting on low speed (ex: from first to second to third gear). This happens repeatedly in the morning start, then doesn't occur again on that day. It reoccurs again, the next day. Have taken the vehicle to the Dealer Service, they notice the issue but are unable to find the root cause. There is no Error Code generated. I find the same issue is being faced many other Honda Pilot owners, refer the link [XXX] . There was an earlier TSB [XXX] and [XXX], but that is only applicable up to 2017 models. Need a resolution from Honda, as this is not only a nagging unresolved problem, but also a potential safety hazard. Details on this issue for the vehicle, can be found from Honda of Gainesville, Florida. | Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | There are many instances where my wife Honda Pilot 2019 touring would shut off at a stop light and on high way with traffice and will not start back up. The whole car shuts off and there is a whole procedure to get the car back on. This has happened to my wife, my daugter and me several times, which is very dangerous situation. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Auto Idle function stopped the engine while waiting to make a left hand turn on a busy street. When trying to make the left hand turn the engine was unable to restart resulting in engine warning lights as well as battery warning lights and a complete shutdown of the car and all systems. Warning lights only appeared when I took my foot off the break and pushed the gas pedal to reengage the engine and move. This left the vehicles lifeless and stranded in the middle of the street for a few minutes before I was able to restart the car after a few failed attempts to do so. This left me stranded in the middle of a busy multi lane street in San Diego with cars having to go around me back into traffic to get by. I have had other instances of stopping at lights where the auto idle stop function engaged and my entertainment system / radio / navigation system shut down until i turned off the car and restarted it completely later. The other instances did not have a failure to restart the engine. Honda has told me there is no current recall for the auto idle function and that I had a software update for this last visit prior to this latest incident occurring. They are also stating I can come have a full diagnostics run but it is no longer covered by warranty. I will be taking the car to Honda for a diagnostic but have read about ongoing issues with this feature and feel like i will be stuck with this ongoing issue. Currently manually turning off this function every time in the car now and have had no further issues since manually disabling for all trips. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera displayed a distorted image. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the coaxial cable was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 52,000 |
| Oct 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Automatic start/stop does not consistently work - Honda dealership looked into months ago (January of 2023) and adjusted the battery power (or something to that affect), recommended new battery and it worked great again... 8 months out, the auto start/stop has started having issues again (August 2023). They said it looked like an issue with my battery power consumption, which they adjusted. The safety issue is the same - car is at complete stop, remove foot from brake to begin accelerating and engine dies and is unable to restart (battery light flashing and/or states that car must be in park, brake depressed, then press power ON - but this doesn't work). Sometimes it struggles to turn over (start engine), other times it won't start at all for a few tries. There is no warning this will occur until the car just dies. This has happened at traffic lights and in heavy stop/go traffic - in both situations we were almost rear-ended AND caused traffic issues with those behind us needing to veer around the immobile vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | All my dash warning lights started coming on for Adaptive Cruise Control, ABS, LKAS, Front Collision Mitigation, Road Departure Mitigation. They all came on at once. I took it to Honda and they said it’s a front camera issue and I’d need to pay $1800 to replace it. Researching it online, I’ve seen many Pilot owners that have had this same issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V431000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. | Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE | Switch assy don't work don't turn on the switch flash on and off i AM scary that i can get in a accident if the car turn off that other problem that i got is the paint is coming out that is not the original paint it be a recall for pilot for the switch i think the years is 2016-2017 | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | When my car is at a stop, the engine idles and will not restart. Sometimes, charging the battery will upstart the engine, while sometimes it will not start at all. We've had the battery checked several times, and the battery checks out fine. The car has an electric shift, and I can't place it into neutral to push the car tot he side. So, we wait in the midst of a heavily trafficked intersection until a tow truck comes. This has happened several times in heavy traffic and once in our driveway. After yesterday's incident, I asked my friend who has the same car to see if she has similar issues. She said YES! After bringing the car to the dealer numerous times, she turns off the idle engine everytime she drives, and she hasn't had the issue. I also researched on Google, and this seems to be a recurring problem for Honda cars with the same engine. This needs to be remedied as a global recall. My car is at the Firestone waiting for tomorrow to come, so I can call Honda dealership to remedy this problem. It won't start, even with a charge. We had the battery checked in July, 2023 when it last happened, and the battery is fine. This defect is a safety hazzard for its owners and passengers. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | VISIBILITY/WIPER | excessive vibration on driver's side mirror at highway speed, rendering mirror useless to check for adjacent cars | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | My 2019 Honda Pilot Touring (7 passenger) has a defect with the auto stop-start system that is a major (and scary!) safety concern. On a handful of occasions over the past couple of years, when stopped at a traffic light (and the auto stop-start feature engages) the engine will fair to restart. My wife has complained that this happened to her several times, and finally this week I was in the car to witness it for myself. The car went from drive to neutral ON ITS OWN, instruments began flashing, the "i" indicator came on, and we couldn't get the car back into drive. We had to turn the car all the way off and back on in order to get it back into drive. I took a picture of the dash and will upload it here. I've read online that this might be caused by a cold battery; however, this incident occurred on a warm September day in the southeastern US. Also, we've had the battery on this car replaced a couple of times (a whole other issue that puzzles me). This is scary and dangerous in the middle of a busy intersection! In fact, my wife now refuses to drive the car, so we've switched cars for the time being. We were going to give this car to our daughter in a few years when she can drive, but that's definitely not happening now....way too dangerous! I'm at a loss for what the next steps are and would really appreciate some guidance. I'm taking the car back to the dealership tomorrow for diagnostics, but in the past they've suggested they can't replicate it so it's not a problem. Ugh. Please help. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
