Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
May 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Three of the six fuel injectors on a 2019 Honda Pilot failed, with Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0430, P0300, P0304, P0306, and P219A, resulting in the vehicle requiring transportation via tow truck to an independent service center. Research into the history of 2019 Honda Pilots indicates that 2019 model-year vehicles within a certain VIN number range, along with all 2018-2019 Honda Odysseys, 2016-2018 Honda Pilots, and 2017-2019 Honda Ridgelines, had their warranties extended for fuel injectors to 10 years from original date of purchase or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. See Honda Service Bulletin 20-100. The issue is that some 2019 Honda Pilots are failing with these DTC codes, but are not covered by the warranty extension. The problem was diagnosed by an independent service center and we were directed to Honda for further diagnostic and possible warranty service. A technician at the service center stated that he had never seen a customer have to pay for fuel injector replacement on a Honda Pilot from 2016-2019 model years that developed this problem. Regardless, Honda insists that this vehicle is not covered by the warranty extension and required us to pay for the repair ourselves. My family and I were temporarily without a usable vehicle, because our other vehicle was undergoing scheduled maintenance at the time of the failure. Prior to the failure, all of the warning lamps on the vehicle would occasionally illuminate at vehicle start up, but the vehicle operated normally, and the warning lamps stopped illuminating after a few start ups. The warning lamps that would simultaneously illuminate were all of the ADAS systems available on this vehicle, as well as things like Hill Start Assist, Traction Control, Emissions, and the Anti-Lock Braking System. So many errors were simultaneously reported on the dashboard that our service center believed that the problem might be an intermittent Engine Control Computer problem in addition to the issue listed above.

Apr 2024 STEERING My 2019 Honda Pilot alignment pulls badly to the right while driving on any type of road surface. I have had the vehicle aligned numerous times and the car still pulls to the right. I have heard from other people friends of mine that own Pilots that they have this issue as well. Honda needs to look into this as it is a safety problem out on the road. The problem has been confirmed by my tire dealer and my mechanic the problem continues. No warning lights have ever appeared.

Apr 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while at a stop light with the Auto START/STOP feature activated, the vehicle did not immediately restart after releasing the brake pedal. The contact had to shift to the park and restart the vehicle manually. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who replaced the idle stop module, and the failure was remedied however, the failure later reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 82,000.

Apr 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The alarm sounded all through the night killing the battery leaving me stranded almost 500 miles from home. Took it to the Honda in Pensacola to be diagnosed only to be told they couldn’t get the part and had to pay a $80 fee on top of renting a car to use while out of town. Then had to leave a day early from our trip (losing money there) because we could not cut the car off without the alarm, lights, and inside going crazy. When we got back home the Honda here said it was the keyless access control unit and replaced it. After researching I have found the is a common issue with the Pilot.

Apr 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER The picture from the back-up camera, as displayed in the infotainment center, has become grossly colorful and requires extreme scrutiny to determine specific shapes, rendering it untrustworthy. This happens every time the car is put in reverse. The car gave no warning that there was any issue. It has not yet been inspected by anyone other than myself. I did do a reset of the infotainment system, but that did not fix the problem. This will make visibility more difficult when backing out of my driveway, into parking spaces, etc.

Apr 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM February 2024, I received the 23V-858 recall notice for the fuel pump module that may have an improperly molded impeller and can cause the fuel pump to become inoperable. On [XXX], my vehicle stalled on [XXX] in Atlanta, GA. My car was towed to Honda Mall of Georgia in Buford, GA on [XXX]. On [XXX], the technicians at Honda Mall of Georgia confirmed that it was indeed the fuel pump (that is under a safety recall) had gone out. My car has sat there ever since because they have yet to receive a part from Honda. I has been 60 days and there has been no remedy due to the fact they have not received a part. Apr 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Failure to restart after a stop at a stop light. Happens very often and sometimes I have to be jumped off to get it to restart. This is a very dangerous situation. It has occurred when I have been on a major highway in heavy traffic. One time it happened at night and it drained my battery to the point of my headlights not working. A highway patrol came and rescued me and jumped it to restart. I had a new battery when all this happened. This has been happening constantly for the last year and a half.

Apr 2024 EXTERIOR LIGHTING LED headlight has been collecting condensation, presumed by mechanic to be from improper venting of the headlight. Possibly related to Honda technical service bulletin regarding hood positioning keeping headlights from venting properly. The chronic moisture caused the headlight to fail and stop working while driving at night, without warning. This caused a sudden impairment to visibility, creating a safety risk for those in the vehicle and others in the road.

Mar 2024 ENGINE Auto start-stop feature is malfunctioning. It is terrifying. I have pulled up to high traffic, busy intersections and my car will idle into stop at the light. When the light turns green and I proceed to push on the gas, the engine does now restart. I have been in extremely dangerous situations where I am stuck in the middle of very busy intersections with my young children in the car with me, and my car will not move. After about 10 minutes of attempting to restart, it will eventually turn back on and I can drive again. I cannot begin to tell you how terrified I have been a couple of the times this has happened, given the conditions of the traffic. I have tried to ask Honda about this several times and they act like they have no idea as to what I am referring to. They tell me there is nothing they can do because it cannot be replicated. I know that I am not the only one that has been affected by this, as I have done a ton of research online to try and find an answer. It seems to be a fairly common issue. i now worry every time i drive my car that it will happen. So far I have been lucky enough to avoid an accident each time this has happened. One occurrence was very close, as a car swerved at the last second before running right into me. It is utterly irresponsible of such a large automobile manufacturer to turn a blind eye to this issue. One of these days it could be catastrophic. It is my understanding that It is the responsibility of your organization to hold these manufacturer’s accountable. I really do hope that something is done about this before someone gets seriously hurt. Thank you.

Mar 2024 ENGINE The contact owns a 2019 Honda Pilot. The contact stated after starting the vehicle, there was a chirping noise coming from the timing belt. No warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The first time, the dealer stated it was normal, the second time, the dealer replaced the serpentine belt, the last time, the dealer acknowledged the noise but stated they did not have a solution to fix the issue. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to another dealer who stated it was a known issue called the timing belt chirp. They also stated when replacing the timing belt, they install a part to prevent the noise as well as prevent wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced Hondas Service Bulletin 16-054, which applied to the year make and model of the contact's vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, a case was opened and then closed. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

Mar 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Backup camera malfunctioning. Display on my infotainment screen shows vibrant colors, impairing visibility, only when in reverse and using the backup camera. All other screen displays are working normally. In day light the backup camera picture is messed up with different colors green purple and doesn't show clear crisp picture of surroundings hampering the visibility when backing-up and in night time it's actually even worse. This has been an issue for more than a year now and started happening after my initial bumper to bumper warranty from Honda expired. AutoNation Honda Dealership here in Roseville California says it's a faulty camera issue and wants to charge for replacement; but when I search online looks like it has impacted lot of 2019 Honda Pilots and even other Honda models. This should be dealt as a security concern and Honda should replace the faulty camera units as cameras are starting to have this defect within 3-4 years of a new car being pushed into service. Clearly these year models don't seem to have proper cameras which should last a lot longer than just 3-4 years. I already took my vehicle for the cable related safety recall but even after that work was done by dealership, the camera is still not showing proper picture when backing-up.

Mar 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER This complaint is regarding safety recall for 2019 Honda Pilot for "fuel pump impellers" (NHTSA Recall Number [XXX]). It was published in November 2023 but Honda dealers still don't have the parts available to do the repair. The Honda dealerships that I have called say that it likely won't be available for another 6 months. I use the car for business purposes and having an open safety recall on a car creates a significant liability issue for me. Please assist with pressuring Honda to quickly fix the safety recall issue. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that he turned on the hazard lights and was able to restart the vehicle after 5 minutes and continued driving. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle stalled abruptly, nearly causing a crash. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined that an abnormal sound and vibration were coming from the fuel pump. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact that the dealer would put the vehicle as priority on the waitlist due to the symptoms of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where diagnostic test code P0007 was retrieved, and the dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP). The dealer informed the contact that the HPFP needed to be replaced prior to performing the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
