Apr 2023 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE I leased the Honda Civic from a dealer in Maryland and the first advertisement for this car was this car has lane departure warning and adaptive cruise etc. I report some incidents of inefficacy these systems in my car while it showed alarm and Honda maintenance team assured me that it works perfectly. i was driving on Fwy I-40 West in New Mexico. After wind blow my whole front shield became foggy and the system did not show any alarm that it is not working. I ended up deviated from the road and my car was totaled. I called Honda customer service they assigned an investigation ticket but after several follow up nothing happened. CA Attorney General office referred me to you.

Mar 2023 STEERING The steering sticks and it’s not smooth at speeds ranging from 35 to 75 mph. It tends to become worse as the car gets warmed up. The steering wheel stick so bad that if you remove your hands from the steering wheel, it will stay in the turn, until you physically turn the wheel the opposite way. it is a very dangerous condition. This has been brought to the attention of our local Honda dealer many times. They continually say they cannot find anything wrong with the car.

Mar 2023 STEERING The steering sticks in a spot while driving. You have to really pull on steering wheel which causes it to oversteer and is very dangerous especially in curves. This happens everytime the car is driven. Can be available to be inspected anytime.

Mar 2023 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Driving down interstate on 1/19/23 and car lost power. I had to move two lanes to the shoulder without getting hit by other drivers. Had car towed to local dealer and they said it was out of gas. The gas gauge said there was 44 miles to empty. On 2/16/23 I was driving to gas station and as soon as it said 44 miles to empty, the car stalled again. Unsure if fuel pump or fuel sensor issue. When I took it to the dealership the first time all they did was add 5 gallons of gas. Didn’t check fuel pump. No charge. I did pay $275 to have car towed to dealership. The second time I added 5 gallons of gas and then went to gas station and filled up.

Mar 2023 STRUCTURE On 01/15/2023 my son was driving on a highway in our 2019 Honda Civic LX when he heard a scary grinding sound under the car. He was forced to stop on the side of the highway only to discover that the splash shield at the bottom of the car was almost disconnected from the car itself. Upon closer inspection at home, we discovered that splash shield is only held in place by 3 fasteners instead of 8 that is needed. Quick internet search shows numerous cases when the splash shield is not installed correctly after the oil change causing it to disconnect eventually. The oil change on the was performed on 08/01/2022 at HONDA CITY dealership. No one touched the bottom of the car afterwards. We contacted the dealership and on 01/16 I had a conversation with a manager who advised to visit it. On 01/17 my son went there and was told that it disconnected for unknown reasons and dealership is not responsible. The dealership manager stated, engine splash cover disconnected by “natural causes”. An unexpected loud grinding noise while driving on a highway almost caused an accident (he almost lost control of the car). If it is a design issue (as stated there are numerous cases of engine splash guard disconnecting documented online) I believe Honda must issue a recall to replace it / address the issue.

Feb 2023 WHEELS I purchased this car from Fox Honda a few weeks after it was sold to the car dealership. When I picked up the car and drove home, I noticed noises from the car. I took my car to a body shop nearby to check. The mechanic said one of the tires wasn’t sealed. I continued to hear weird noises coming from the front of my car. A month later, the low-tire-pressure sign appeared. I called the salesperson again, and he said the car was fine due to weather. I was worried, so I took the car to Honda City in Liverpool, NY to get inspected. They got rid of the low-tire-pressure sign. The service of Fox Honda was inadequate as it didn’t make sure the car I bought was inspected throughout before selling it. Everyone convinced me that there was no problem with the car until my car corrupted on January 4, 2021. My son was driving the car home from school. When he made the left turn, he said the car seemed out of balance and then it hit the sidewalk. The speed in the area was about 35mph, and the car was driven slower than the speed because it made a left turn at the intersection. The wheel and front axle on the passenger side fell off from the vehicle. He was scared, so he called 911. Police came, and people on the road all thought it was the strangest thing that ever happened to a car. My husband and I were glad that my son was ok, but a car’s wheel and its axes can’t just fall off like that. My son could end up in the hospital if he drove on the highway. Honda C said my case couldn’t move forward if the body shop at Honda did not give them the inspection report (My insurance did assess the damage, but Honda C did not accept it). The body shop said we had to wait for 2 months, but yesterday, Tuesday 2/21, I met the service manager to ask him to speed up the inspection, and he said Honda C would do it, not him. It was upsetting because both parties stated different things. My pre-paid legal service attorney advised me to report to DMV and the defects to the NHTSA.

Feb 2023 STEERING Once the car gets above 50MPH the steering feels sticky or notchy, like the wheels are stuck in a rut, and it stays that way at any speed until shut off. It's impossible to keep the car centered in the lane as the slightest turn of the wheel in either direction is too much, and so you turn the wheel in the other direction to compensate and then that's too much. The car feels entirely unsafe, especially on the highway. It was especially nerve racking with a semi in the next lane. There were no warning lights or codes. The car was taken to the local Honda dealership and the technician confirmed the steering problem, searched the tech line forums and found multiple cases with similar complaints. Replacement of the steering rack was recommended.

Feb 2023 STRUCTURE My trunk opens on it’s own while riding down the road! Every day several times a day I have to pull over and close my trunk because it opens on its own! It’s very dangerous as I have had things fly out of my truck bc of this! I just bought the car in October 2022! There are a lot of other complaints online when I looked up why does my trunk keep opening on my 2019 civic! From my understanding it is the 2019-2020 Honda civics! IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY!

Jan 2023 FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE The contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Dec 2022 STEERING,LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I was pulling into a gas station when errors started scrolling on the dash, pretty much all of the driver assist options were failing then the power steering error came up and it was almost impossible for me to turn the wheel, luckily I was going slow. Had it towed to a service station and they could not even find out what the codes that were reported meant. So I had it towed to the Honda dealership, they expected rodent damage but found none and neither did the service station. Honda then said it was the battery, but the car started great without even a second of hesitation so I was not sure how it could be the battery. They replaced the battery and said it was fixed $385.00 later. Less than 24hrs later, only about 2 hours of drive time, same issue except this time I was driving on a main road at 50MPH.. I barely managed to slow down and pull over before the steering went out again. I am not confident that the dealership is even going to be able to fix the issue since they thought changing the battery was going to fix it! They are just guessing and to lose the ability to steer my car while driving is a severe safety hazard. I guess I will have to replace the car, only 3 yrs old but OOW, as I will not feel confident it will be safe to drive in the future even if the dealership says they fixed it again. It obviously was not fixed this time!

Oct 2022 STRUCTURE This year, the paint on both side view mirrors and door handles started chipping away. The vehicle is a 2019, so it is less than 4 years old. There is no reason that the paint in those specific areas should be chipping away already except for a factory defect.

Sep 2022 STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER The paint on my 2019 Civic Coupe began to completely flake off inside the fuel door jam. The primer is completely exposed. There was no scratching or dent or any kind of impact that could have brought on the paint damage since the area is tucked away. I brought my car to the dealership today and they took pictures to document the occurrence and are escalating my concerns. Hopefully this will be covered under Honda's extended paint warranty (which I've read only affects certain models and years).

Sep 2022 ENGINE Many owners of the same car are experiencing water entering from the hood scoop and dripping onto the 4th cylinder causing the coils and spark plug to rust and will throw a check engine light. Honda knows about it and won’t fix it. Clearly there’s a default on how the car was design and Honda should have a fix to correct this issues. Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Aug 2022 FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE The contact's daughter owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated while his daughter was driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to stall. The contact stated he was unaware if any warning lights were illuminated. The driver attempted to park on the side of the street but the vehicle seized. The contact stated the vehicle was parked for 15 minutes before the driver restarted the vehicle and continued driving to her destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V215000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,410.

Aug 2022 STEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE I turned on my vehicle and randomly had multiple warning lights come on including power steering, ACC, VSA, Hill start assist, LKAS, ABS. The power steering completely went out completely randomly but the power steering fluid is full. Two weeks ago I had my fuel pump recalled and now I have these issues. Valley Hi Honda in Victorville CA has not returned my calls and has been absolutely no help. If I had been driving there would be a good chance I would have crashed as I would have been unable to navigate a turn.

Jul 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE My camera that is supposed to assist in turning and seeing my blind spot is always malfunctioning in my new 2019 civic. Honda says they can’t do anything about that. I’ve already had to put new tires on my car - which I suspect didn’t have new tires on it when I purchased my new car. Replace the battery, and my electronic features (radio screen and windows) like to stop working and go black - including my side camera that’s meant to assist in lane changes. Additionally, my car melted in the sun. This has been a known issue with Honda since 2011 and they haven’t addressed that issue or gave any warnings. My tires, and camera for blind spots is a safety issue and the fact that my car is unreliable and melting(!) is troublesome and a safety problem.
