Jul 2024 SERVICE BRAKES I was driving down a dirt road about 30 mph when my vehicle wouldn’t come to a stop when braking. the master warning light popped up on my dash, next to the word ‘BRAKE’ in all red letters. on my dash also read ‘Low Braking Power. Stop in a safe place. see owners manual’.(photo is attatched, sorry it’s blurry i was trembling) no other warning signs or messages were on my dash prior to the incident. this happened VERY suddenly. luckily the incident happened when i wasn’t going very fast. had it happened 5 minutes prior when i was going about 75 mph down a narrow fm road, i probably wouldn’t be here to explain what happened. I could have crashed my car, hit someone else, there is numerous possibilities that could have happened. I thank God for watching over me and my child. i will be contacting the dealership tomorrow to see what can be done.

Jul 2024 SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and attempting to stop the vehicle, the brakes failed to respond as intended. The brake fluid low message was displayed. The contact was able to safely pull the vehicle to the side of the road and inspect the brake fluid; however, no failure was found. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,580.

Jul 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM On hot days, fuel vapor escapes from the gas tank's filler pipe and condenses and pools inside the fuel access door. The area around the car smells of gas. Sometimes it runs down the side of the car and drips on the ground. This has ruined the paint. We can't put the car in the garage because of the smell, and we are concerned that in an accident there could be a fire. We don't know what part has failed. Toyota installed an upgraded gas cap, but leak is still happening. The safety risks are breathing of gas fumes in and around the car, and the increased risk of fire in an accident. We kept a detailed log of the conditions under which this happens, and shared the log and also video recordings with Freeman Toyota near us in Santa Rosa California. We left the car with them for two hot days (XXX 2024) and they were able to reproduce the problem. The leakage is noticeable only in hot weather, so we first observed the problem in the summer of 2020. Below I have entered the most recent date when we observed the problem (with the upgraded gas cap): [XXX]. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Jul 2024 SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at approximately 35 MPH going down a steep decline, the brake pedal was depressed and travelled to the floorboard, causing the vehicle to reach speeds up to 82 MPH. The contact was unaware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle coasted to a stop once the road leveled out. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was not diagnosed as the contact researched online and found a recall. The vehicle was then towed to a Toyota dealer where the VIN was confirmed to be included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V890000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was repaired under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was upset that he was not notified of the recall and was unsure if the vehicle was currently safe to be driven. The approximate failure mileage was 149,000. The VIN was not available.

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE Upon leaving my home the “check engine” light turned on suddenly after only less than 2 minutes of driving . The “ICS malfunction” light also turned on. The car pulled and stalled when pushing the gas and velocity stalled. Engine light turned said something similar to “engine overheating park in a safe place” . Not sure exact words. I was able drive less then one mile to get the car to Toyota Penske of Downey. I had the diagnostic done and the service provider stated the car needed an electrician water pump replacement. My car has very little mileage and was not running for long for it to over heat.

Jun 2024 SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at approximately 10 MPH and slowing for traffic in a parking lot the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that he was able to stop the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the vacuum pump brake assist assembly had failed and needed to be replaced. Jun 2024 SERVICE BRAKES The cars "Brake Power Low" warning light illuminated on the dash. This was covered as the Brake Vacuum pump for another 2018 Camry that we have, but is not a recall for our other Camry. I am taking it in to Servco Hawaii to diagnose the issue, but again, this was the same issue that our other Camry had. The brake is spongy, and I checked the brake fluid to ensure that it was topped off. This was the first time that I noticed the brakes being spongy.

May 2024 SUSPENSION Car was brought to dealership for brake vacuum booster recall. After being assessed it was lowered to the ground and the Front RH Strut /Spring Assembly broke free from the vehicle - The internal portion of the mount was completely rusted apart thus detaching from the outer “shell” of the strut mount leading to a completely unsafe condition that required repair. The vehicle has 145,000 miles and no other signs of rust near this part, parts related too, or on the body panels near this area. Parts have since been replaced and car is operational. Could have caused accident if coil Spring broke free of assembly during regular driving. No warning lights, strange noises or other indicators spoke to how decayed this part was. Not caught during inspection prior to car being purchased 2 yrs ago.

Apr 2024 ENGINE Water Pump, Toyota Camry 2018 LE, 2.5. In the last maintenance carried out at Courtesy Toyota, Brandon, I informed the Dealer that the Check Engine Light was on, I told them that I had visited 3 different places on the same day to detect the fault and it told me that the problem was the code P26CB, Water Pump. They told me that they had to diagnose the car one more time and that the cost was $200.00 (this is a scam when the problem was already detected). Additionally, I understood that the water pump of my vehicle model had a recall, because it came out with a factory defect and a new car is practically not one for the water pump to be broken in such a short time. The Dealer did not want to solve this problem in the warranty of this claim, who informed me that I had to pay $1400.00 for this repair ($500 for the part and 900 Labor) (another bigger scam) so I had to buy the part from Toyota OnLine to solve it. It is unfair that in such a short time a part of the vehicle is damaged due to a manufacturing problem and the Dealers (who we all know that their main objective is to obtain profits rather than solutions for their clients) abuse and do not assume the brand's responsibility to solve problems and projecting a negative image towards them. The warning lights were on the vehicle's dashboard indicating to stop and visit the Dealer, but no solution was possible on their part. Many people have complained about this damaged part of the vehicle in these models due to the electric water pump that does not have the required duration.

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Support Program: 22TE02. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Mar 2024 POWER TRAIN 1.The transmission in my vehicle suffered not one, but two failures or malfunctions. Regrettably, as of March 13, 2024, I am no longer in possession of the vehicle. However, I do possess video footage, photographs, and a diagnostic report from the Toyota dealership, along with statements that I personally addressed to Toyota USA regarding the matter. 2.The transmission failure jeopardized both my safety and that of others on the road. While driving, I experienced a dangerous situation where pressing the gas pedal resulted in the engine revving, but the car failed to accelerate when necessary, posing a significant risk during critical moments. 3.The dealership confirmed the issue on two separate occasions. This problem occurred twice and was verified by the dealership. 4.The dealership conducted an inspection on the vehicle, but to my knowledge, no inspection was carried out by the police, manufacturers, insurance representatives, or any other parties. 5.Instantaneously the failure occurred, warning lamps, messages, and other symptoms indicating the problem were present.

Mar 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Vehicle should have automatic emergency braking safety feature when vehicle is driving in “Reverse”. I made a very careless and dangerous mistake because I was in a rush and placed my vehicle in “Reverse” instead of “Park”, immediately after parking on the street in front of my friend’s house. Not realizing the vehicle was in reverse, I quickly opened the driver’s side door and placed my left foot on the street as I was getting out. Suddenly, the moving vehicle and opened driver’s side door knocked me down on the street and continued to drive in reverse crushing my body. The vehicle should have stopped the moment it hit something or before it hit something. Instead, the vehicle smashed me against the pavement, rolled right over me, and then continued in reverse at a rapid speed. At the same time, my friend was getting out of the front passenger side and was almost pinned against a telephone pole that the opened passenger side door hit, but thankfully she got out of the way just in time. The car, however, continued running in reverse. Another friend had to run down the street and literally jump in the driver’s side to quickly place his foot on the brakes. I was still laying injured on the street in agony, and sustained multiple injuries.

Feb 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Driving down the interstate it started snowing and it was a wet snow so it was sticking to the front of the car. Warning light for the front collision light came on and said was disabled or something like that. It was also white outs during this snow storm so with that out not knowing if there's a car in front of me put not only my life but my husband's life in danger. Once we stopped for gas and cleared front of car off it was fine. We've owned this car since 2018 and this is the 1st snowstorm we've encountered this.
