| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,LANE DEPARTURE | Here is what happened: 1). After the car driving for 10mins and engine warms up, stop the car, and turn off. 2). Turn on the car again, it shows message such as "Emissions System Problem", "Transmission problem", "Blind Spot Info System Problem" at the same time. The computer locks the car that doesn't allow the Transmission to change from "P" to "R", "N", or "D" position. The car fails to drive. 3). Leave the car for few hours and let the engine compartment cool down first, turn on the car again and those messages go away, and the car can drive. 4). After driving for a while, it repeats the problem from 1) ~ 3). | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | STRUCTURE | Both of my passenger sliding doors failed, resulting in both of them opening while driving with my children in the back seats. In August 2022, my driver side passenger door swung wide open while I was driving the car, with the error on the dashboard showing door open. Took the car to Honda Dealership, who stated that the door latch failed and replaced the door latch. Now, a year later, in October 2023, the same issue happened on the passenger side. The door swung wide open while driving, with the same error appearing on the dashboard. This time, Honda refused to fix it and demanded that we pay $800 for the fix. How do latches on both doors fail? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Every time when it rains, the power tail gate fails showing beeping noise from the rear and on the screen and unable to lock the doors. Had to replace the power tail module couple of times so far and still problem persists. The Honda dealership mentioned there was a leak, repaired and replaced the module , inspite of the fix priblem still persists when it rains. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Front windshield camera failure (confirmed by local Honda dealership). No known cause and no prior warnings/messages. All warning messages popped up suddenly after the car was parked for the workday. The following functions were disabled by this failure: automatic emergency breaking, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, cruise control, etc. Part to replace is "on national backorder with no known ETA" | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Numerous times, this 2018 Honda Odyssey would shift into neutral when trying to downshift at highway speeds after a long trip. The push button gear indicator would state the vehicle would be in "D" drive, but the vehicle would actually be in neutral. The only remedy would be to apply the brakes to allow something to reset, and the transmission would then engage as normal. This is very unsafe as one time this happened to me while I was ascending a steep bridge with my entire family in the vehicle. This happened multiple times in the 2 1/2 years with this van, and each time the Honda dealer replied that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Another issue with the transmission was during really hot weather. The vehicle was parked in a parking lot on a 100+ degree day. Upon entering the vehicle, the dash flashed the warning signs "Transmission error, pull over immediately when safe". "Transmission error, please apply the parking brake". The vehicle was taken directly to the Honda dealership with errors listed, and the Honda dealer indicated that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. The codes were reset and the vehicle was given back to me. A month later, the transmission went into neutral again during a trip at highway speeds. Being that I could no longer trust the vehicle with my family's safety, I was forced to get a new vehicle as Honda did not want to acknowledge the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | On several occasions (roughly 5 separate and unique incidents), the vehicle put itself into neutral (N) while driving. There are instances when the vehicle was in motion and others when it is at a stop. The screens in the dashboard cluster and in the center of the front dashboard go blank momentarily and the transmission changes from drive (D) to neutral (N) without any apparent cause or any warning whatsoever. The power steering is also resetting, causing the steering to momentarily become much more stiff and harder to turn. It’s currently at the dealer undergoing inspection and repair, but the fact that this is causing a safety issue that makes the vehicle undriveable while at any speed without warning is a serious safety issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | This vehicle has had numerous electrical issues, culminating in the need for three batteries in a six year. Period. From day one there were electrical issues with the auto stop start and the car in one occasion the battery completely died. Honda was unable to identify the issue and electrical issues. Continue to happen. in the last 18 months I’ve had numerous occasions where this auto stop start would engage at a stoplight stop sign in the middle of busy traffic, but would not start back up. I took it in for service and they cannot re-create or identify the issue. This is very scary when it happens as I have been on start and go traffic on the interstate on busy intersections and the car will not move nor can it be restarted for 5 to 10 minutes. Honda offers no solution to this dangerous problem. After months of not being able to fix this. Identify a problem the car no longer moves into reverse consistently Honda recommends new transmission. After becoming frustrated with Honda and feeling unsafe with my family in this vehicle, I had to trade it in for a new vehicle as no solutions were offered to make me feel safe driving it or to get it repaired effectively or identify why it keeps needing new batteries and has electrical dysfunction since purchase | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | The camera that controls all safety features in my vehicle has an “Internal Failure” this means all my sensors and my dash board is lit up like a Christmas Tree. I took it to the dealership paid for a diagnostic test and found out it was the front camera internal failure, which means all sensors (lane mitigation, braking system, cruise control, automatic dim lights etc), is all not working. HELP please!! As I took it to the dealership even if I pay for the fixing the camera is on National Back Order that being stated it means MANY people are having the same issue, and Honda has no conducted a recall for this HELP us PLEASE!!! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | Honda Odyssy 2018- While slowing down and then trying to accelerate does not accelerate and stalls in the lane and requires pumping of accelerator pedal before gear is changed. some time when this happens you can heard grinding noise of gear change. Last time it happened it showed 'Transmission system Problem' and 'Blind Spot Info system Problem' on screen. This is after dealer has looked at the problem and I was told it happened when tech test drove also. Dealer had updated software but it did not fix the issue. This is a safety concern, as if you can not accelerate to maintain the speed of other cars in your lane, cars behind you can get into accident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | I was driving and all of the sudden the vehicle slowly started losing power. A bunch of lights popped up on the dash and it turns out it was the camshaft and the sensor. The camshaft had been rubbing on the sensor for quite some time causing the engine to malfunction. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | When driving the vehicle on September 8, 2023 LKAS (lane keeping assist problem), collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, blind spot info system problem, auto high beam problem and ACC (adaptive cruise control problem) came on. Pulled over and restarted the car and all warning lights remain. Transmission system problem error is now appearing with the letters blinking on the display. Turn the car off and back on until transmission problem error goes away. Vehicle going in for diagnostics early October. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I had the MOST recall repair a couple weeks ago, but my backup camera still cuts out and says CHECK TUNER. This does cause a temporary visibility issue when switching to mirrors. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | Recently started to experience this issue. I have 41,000miles on this 2018 Honda Odyssey. It Jerks & delayed acceleration/hesitation upon acceleration while driving between 20‐35mph on local roads. It happens mostly with slowing down in traffic or upon stopping at stop sign & accelerating again. I am not experiencing this issue with freeway driving. I went to the dealership where I bought the car from. They asked me for $280 to just diagnose the problem, but I refuse to pay for just to diagnose. Currently, I am trying to research out my own. As the dealership has no clue about the issue. Please provide me with any related complaints & resolution for this problem. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Appears the front radar system fails causing all safety features that rely on data from that radar to also fail, causing a high potential for safety related incident due to reliance on these safety features. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V431000 (Back Over Prevention) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that upon opening the electronic tailgate and entering the trunk of the vehicle, an alert sounded, indicating that the tailgate was closing. After closing the tailgate, the tailgate suddenly jerked open, striking the contact. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who was also unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 172,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 172,000 |
| Sep 2023 | LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the passenger’s side sliding door failed to latch and lock securely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a failed door latch actuator. The contact was informed that the two latches and actuators need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that after researching the failure, she discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V795000 (Latches, Locks, Linkages) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 88,000 |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,LANE DEPARTURE | The power tailgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L started opening and closing on its own, seemingly at random. The latch would not cinch and the gauge cluster reported an opening attempt while driving on the highway. This failure cascaded and ended up bringing every device on the B-CAN network down, including the instrument cluster, heated seats, power sliding doors, ADAS systems including FCW/LDW/LKA and various telltales and buttons on the dash. Upon disassembly of the interior to expose the affected controllers, I discovered that the power tailgate controller was full of water. There was enough water in it to cause arcing of the power and CAN terminals. I traced the ingress path upwards and discovered a crack in the seam sealer on the roof, underneath the left roof rack rail at the very rear of the vehicle. Water enters under the roof rail, drips down the door hinge, then drips down the body to the cup holder and directly into the controller. To remediate I had to replace the damaged controller and apply seam sealer underneath the roof rail at a cost of approximately $200. I called the local dealer to attempt to report this to Honda but was unable to find the appropriate person. Over a dozen people have reported this issue online and there are pictures of the issue. I posted pictures to one of the links referenced below and have additional pictures. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and not caused by age or use of the vehicle and there is strong evidence it affects a lot of people. The issue will be particularly prevalent when the vehicle is parked outside on a downward incline. I work in a related industry on embedded devices that must meet functional safety standards, and I believe an issue like this would lead to a mandatory safety recall. | Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN | No acceleration when pressing gas at very unsafe times like pulling out from a drive onto road or turning in intersection. I pressed the gas when it was clear to go and the car lagged in acceleration then jolted me out into the middle of the intersection where it lagged again and right before I was about to get T- Boned by another car it accelerated and I was able to make it into my lane last minute. This has happened multiple times but at least 3 times where it put me and my children in imminent danger of getting hit. I have taken it to dealership where they did a reset on some electric part of transmission and said it could take up to 1000 miles to notice a change. So far no change and still experiencing problems. My car also lunges or intensely rocks back and forth when put in park. I hear clunking when shifting at various times. The issues with acceleration make it extremely dangerous when needing to pass vehicles whether on highway or roadway. I do not trust this vehicle but because the dealer sold it over priced mixed with the $13,500 depreciation that has happened within just a year of buying it I am not in a position to get out of it. I am desperately seeking help to get out of this death trap of a car for mine and my children’s sake. I bought this vehicle with appx. 40,000 miles and have had regular maintenance. Currently setting at 82,000 miles. The car has had the same issues since buying it with 40,000 miles that it has today with 82,000 miles. I see where there is a specific recall for 2018-2019 Honda odysseys for this type of problem but my vin is not affected which needs to change as clearly my vin is very much affected. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | When idle stop is activated, car will often stall on attempt to restart. Car can then not be started for 5-10 seconds. If the car does not stall, it will often hesitate 2-3 seconds before the engine restarts, leading to multiple near-miss accidents on turns. Electrical warnings will often flash after idle stop, such as "sliding door problem," "collision mitigation malfuction," "anti-theft system malfunction," etc. Battery has been replaced twice with no other remedy offered while in or out of warranty. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | When the vehicle’s auto start-stop feature is active, the feature will malfunction causing the engine to not start properly. Instead, the vehicle stalls and must be restarted manually. However, there are many occasions when the vehicle does not start manually either. In these cases, it takes many attempts to restart the vehicle. While these events are happening, the vehicle displays an error message for the auto start-stop feature on the instrument cluster, and the instrument cluster will flicker on and off. The events often occur during the middle of an intersection and attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. It creates a very dangerous situation. the vehicle or component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others because the issue occurs regularly, and the dealership has asked us to come back when the problem is occurring. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, there are other Honda vehicles (e.g., Honda Pilot) which have the exact same issue, and a recall has been issued for those vehicles but not the Honda Odyssey. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Honda has a recall notice to repair the rear camera. We took the car in to get the recall service. The camera stopped working. Honda told us the diagnostic to determine what wasn't working on the camera would cost hundreds of dollars. This was recall service that disabled the camera. We should not be charged and they have messed up our car system. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | While the van was in motion, the power tailgate unlocked and opened on its own. The dashboard displayed tailgate open warning message. I slowed down and the lock re-engaged to to close the tailgate. It happened again later that evening. Fortunately, I was within city limits, driving about 40 mph. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Started up the van one afternoon a couple months back and a bunch of warning lights came on. ACC failure, auto high beam failure, collision mitigation system failure, lane keep assist failure. These warnings come on every time and these safety features do not work. Dealership diagnoses front camera failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2023 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while slowing and then attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the delay was approximately two seconds before the vehicle accelerated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure but no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that the failure had become progressively worse. The manufacturer was not yet contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 40,000 |
