Date Component Summary Severity Mileage
May 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The component on the right of the dash regularly does not display anything which includes fuel level, odometer/mile range, temperature, and time among other information. This has been occurring for over a year. My two biggest issues are that I can't see how much gas I have left and that the odometer isn't always viewable. The gas tank is a constant issue because I worry about getting stranded somewhere because I didn't know. You have to be incredibly careful to catch the display on the occasion it does turn on and guess as to when you need to refuel because most of the time you can't see it on the dash. The odometer is the other issue. When getting my car serviced, I've had workers unable to read the odometer and this could be a huge issue with the DMV if they can't read my mileage. I won't be able to register my car if they need to inspect my car including for an emission test. My car will fail because the dashboard doesn't display correctly.

Feb 2024 STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER *How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -YES. [XXX] Burbank, CA, intersection [XXX] and [XXX] [XXX] ) There was a huge rainfall this evening. I was heading east on [XXX] and was about to make a "U" going back opposite direction. Making sure there is no on going or opposite traffic, safely i made a "U" turn on a parking lot, the first parking spot..and some of a sudden i realised that my car was touched some obstacle. It was a street light pole but from that pole there was a supporting 45 degrees angle metal wire going across a parking spot! I was not able to see a metal wire because of a light reflection and working windshield wipers.! This metal wire went through my front of a car and cracked the front bumper, left fender i was not able to open my driver door. My speed by doing "U" turn was about 5 miles per hour.. I called to my insurance took a picture of an incident location they came up to me with an estimate $1.553.00... This is insane and might be definitely dangerous for motorcycles and scooters. I have all the pictures, and video as well. Thank you! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Dec 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Instrument gauge cluster circuit holders are failing. As a result, the odometer screen, screen for oil and gas do not light up. This is dangerous as you are unable to know when you need to fill up or if your car has enough oil. It can result in running out of gas in an unsafe location or ceasing the engine.
Incident: Oct 2021
Crash: No Fire: No Unknown
Dec 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Instrument panel periodically fails to display fuel information. Panel will either turn off entirely or flash in random patterns. At worst, this results in not knowing how much fuel is left in the vehicle (and not even being able to see a low gas warning), which could lead to running out of gas in unsafe situations. The odometer and warning display text indicators are also affected, which are potential safety hazards. Other non-essential functions (outside temperature, trip meter, clock, and instant fuel economy) are also affected. The problem was confirmed by a dealership, but has not been inspected by police or an insurance representative. There were no messages or symptoms prior to the failure, which began occurring around 3 years after purchase of the vehicle. The first time I documented the failure was March of 2022.

Nov 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The HR-V is four years old, and in the past month, the LCD display, which shows the driver the current fuel level, current miles per gallon, and, most importantly, the odometer, has intermittently stopped working and gone completely blank while driving (see photo attached). The display sometimes stays off for ten or more minutes before showing gibberish numbers that do not correspond to the proper odometer, temperature, and miler per gallon readings. I reported the incident to the local Honda dealership during my normal tune up, but they were not able to reproduce the issue. There are an abundance of online Honda forums where this same issue is reported. This is an obvious defect with 2018 Honda HR-Vs. This is a safety concern as this problem can lead to the odometer not properly recording the accurate miles driven and may not accurately be showing the driver how much fuel is left. There are no other warning lamps or other symptoms of the problem other than it happens most often when the temperature is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Fuel gauge screen goes out completely and randomly shows up glitches. Serious safety concern because you're unable to determine the fuel you have left in your tank. Also, unable to determine your vehicle mileage and trip mileage. Unable to determine the engine oil life and the maintenance minder.

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Paint started peeling 2 months after I bought it from the Honda dealership. I have had 2 appointments with them about it and nothing has been done. No call or email. 6 months into buying the vehicle I was getting onto the highway and my vehicle wasn't excellerating then it picked up. The vehicle does that every month atleast 4 times. Also since I bought this car when I unlocked my doors they lock themselves when I open the door. Takes me 10 tries to get into the car. And if I leave the keys in the car the car will lock it self with the keys in it!

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The odometer/gas gauge was shorting out, coming on sometimes and showing partial characters others. It would not come on and stay on as intended. Without the gas gauge it was near impossible to know when the gas had been depleted and I was unable to get the car inpescted without the odometer showing due to the mechanic needing to photograph the mileage for the inspection.

Oct 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Fuel gauge instrument will sometimes show jumbled letters/numbers or be completely blank. Upon driving for a while it will go back to normal. Not able to recreate on command so the dealership will not help me other than charge me to look at it without guarantee they will fix it since they won’t be able to recreate it. I looked online many people are also complaining about this issue and had to have the instrument cluster replaced. I do not want to pay for someone to just look at it and not fix the issue. The car doesn’t even have 2000 miles on it yet, this has to be a factory issue or something. I am concerned that it will just stop working and that is not safe since I won’t be able to determine the fuel level.

Sep 2023 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE The differential broke. I was unable to accelerate on the road; it froze up. I had to pull over and couldn't drive it. I was just outside of the HOnda dealer when it happened. I took it to the Honda Dealer Service Center in MD and this was their diagnosis.I didn't take it anywhere else. There were no warnings except I heard rattling when I was at a lower speed the same afternoon about 3 hours earlier. Otherwise, I had just completed a 100k service literally 2 weeks beforehand at Honda Service and the Honda Service Center didn't report anything wrong with the car.

Aug 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL On 8/10/2023, around 9:25 AM, at the parking lot of Jet Propulsion Laboratory, 4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena, CA, I was pulling into a parking spot, moving very slowly. I was about to stop when the car suddenly took off in full speed, went over the concrete barrier toward hilly area covered with shrubs. That impact stopped the car, but half of my car was in the shrubs. It happened so fast that I didn't have a chance to break or anything. The car went into the shrub where nobody or no other car was around. Please see the attached photos. The bumper on the drive side is damaged and the car suffered some scratches and small broken parts. Prior to this incident, we experienced some minor incidents such as : - Car would not start at the first try and we had to try multiple times. We took the car to the dealer we purchased the vehicle and they replaced battery. Even after the replacement of the battery, it occurred couple more times. - Speaker announced to release the parking break when it was released and I was driving the car already. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. - The window on the front driver side gets sticky sometimes if left overnight. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. We took the car to the dealer again this morning (8/11/2023) and talked to the service representative. She looked at our record and we found out some of or complaints were not recorded. The contact stated that the dealer found that the electronic brake switch was turned on with no indication that it was on. The disc brake pads were also replaced since they were worn out.

Jun 2023 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the instrument cluster was randomly flickering off and on and sometimes became inoperable. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. During the failure, the fuel gauge and engine temperature gauge could not be viewed by the driver. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 18,000.

Dec 2022 ENGINE Engine suddenly lost power on highway 5 times in last 6 months and would not restart for approximately 12 hours. To lose power at 75 mph on a busy highway risks accidents and injury to driver, passengers, and potentially other drivers on the road. Tow truck drivers and passengers are witnesses to this happening. We have had it towed to the dealer each time and they cannot find any problem. No warning prior to the problem.
